Setting up compaq 8200 elite

I have 2 questions that seem that they may be basic to someone. I just purchased a Compaq 8200 Elite Convertable Minitower from a used computer store -- a place that cleans up discarded computers and resells them.  I also got a used monitor from the same place.  Both were working in the store.
Quetion 1:
I am having trouble getting this new computer to turn on.  I try to connect it using my old keyboard, mouse, internet DSL router and cirtuit breaker but the monitor says 'no signal'. I tried to set it up with my old monitor and again it says 'no signall' -- so I know that it is not an issue with the new monitor. Additionally, I have noticed that only one of the little green lights right below the power button on the tower illuminiates when I push the power button.  Could it be that I am not connecting the various cords to the right sockets on the tower eventhough they seem like the same type?  (There are multiple sockets for some of the cord types)  My circuit breaker is about 7 years old -- maybe that's a problem?  Any other ideas?
Question 2:
I want to insert a 4 gig RAM memory stick into this tower to give it more ram. I see that there are 3 empty ports for this - 2 are white and one is black. Does it matter which port I put the new memory stick in?

  • Do the 8200 elite CMT motherboard SATA ports support SATA port multipliers?

    I have an HP-Compaq 8200 elite CMT. I'd like to expand my SATA connection capacity using a SATA port multiplier. Specfications for most of them indicate they work only with motherboards that support the SATA PM / port multiplier feature. Does my motherboard support PM?
    Thanks!

    @Paul_Tikkanen
    Paul,
    You have one of the models.
    Most Intel PCs that I have come across don't support SATA port multipliers except for MACs.

  • HP Compaq 8000 Elite power supply upgarde

    I have a 2010 HP Compaq 8000 Elite and need to upgrade the power supply in order to run my new Radeon HD 6850 Graphics card. After much research i found that this particular computer's motherboard does not have a normal 20-pin or 24-pin power supply but instead uses 2 separate 4-pin connections for the PWR and PWRCPU supplies and a third cable which i believe to be an ancient and outdated 6 pin auxiliary power cable (http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#aux) for the PWRCMD supply. I Also found that all power is run through the motherboard to each separate piece of hardware in the computer and therefor most likely has a limit for the max power supply possible. Is there some sort of power supply that will both fit in the PSU slot (which is not the standard PSU size, but instead measures about 6" x 5.75" x 3.75") and will also be able to connect to and supply enough power to the mother board?!? Or am i stuck with a lousy 320W??? Please Help!!!

    Maverickv2,
    You will not be able to upgrade that PSU, model # 508154-001. It is not possible with those connectors. The most absurd item was that the hardware (drives) actually are powered off the motherboard. (Just like you said).

  • My HP 8200 elite hang up on the HP splash screen for almost 3 minutes.

    I have tried disabling startup items in msconfig and still did the same thing. I can't get into the bios on startup.
    This is an HP 8200 Elite. I recently upgraded to Win 8, but this problem was there before that. I have tried finging a newer version of the bios (mine is v02.21) but don't have any luck trying to find one. This is an annoying problem that I would rather not have to deal with. Any advise?

    Hey DickTimm,
    I would suggest with a severe hang like that at the splash screen before and after the upgrade to Windows 8, there may be a hard drive issue. The symptoms you both describe are classic symptoms of a dying hard drive. Here are the steps to run the Start Up Test (taken from here):
    Complete the following steps to open HP System Diagnostics:
    Turn off the computer.
    Use one of the following methods:
    Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second, until the HP System Diagnostics program opens.
    OR
    Turn on the computer and immediately press the Escape key repeatedly, about once every second, until the Startup menu opens. Then press F2 .
    The System Diagnostics window allows you to run several diagnostic tests. Each test determines if the hardware is functioning properly, and displays an error message and a warranty ID if there is a hardware failure.
    4. Choose the Start Up Test and post the results in your reply.
    The SMART Check, Short DST, and Optimized DST all test the hard drive. If any of those fail, the hard drive will need to be replaced.
    I believe that your latest BIOS driver is 2.60 Rev 3. I would need your product number to be able to verify that. Here are the steps to find your exact product number. If you could give me your product number, I'll provide you with a direct link to the latest BIOS driver for your particular computer.
    Please let me know if you have any questions or if these suggestions helped (this could help others with similar issues). I'll keep an eye out for your reply!

  • [Solved]Setting up Compaq W200 Wireless adaptor -- installing firmware

    I previously had Ubuntu installed on my Compaq Evo N400c, and I was able to successfully get the wireless working by following this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiD … CompaqW200
    I figured I'd be able to get it working under Arch in a similar way, so I started doing it and was okay until I got to the part where you have to place the firmware. The command they have is:
    sudo cp orinoco_ezusb_fw /lib/firmware/`uname -r`/
    Arch doesn't seem to do firmware in the same way as Ubuntu. What would be the correct way to get the firmware in place under Arch? Or will there be other problems with doing this? Thanks.

    There should be a package for this, one moment whilst I find it.
    Well, there isn't a firmware package for that card, unfortunately. I think you need a dev here, but I can tell you that the firmware for my broadcom card is in... /lib/firmware/b43, so yours would go in /lib/firmware/orinoco_ezusb_fw
    Hope that helps.
    Beyond that, getting the driver to autoload is as simple as putting it in the MODULES array in /etc/rc.conf, and netcfg should be useful for managing it if you're connecting to one or two networks regularly. If you roam, you probably want NetworkManager or Wicd.

  • 8200 elite Parallel port not run

    Hi to all,
    On my elite8200 I can not run the LPT port on my windows7 64bit port with the address but F0E0 wrong with the management software for a CNC machine.
    In the bios (updated) I can only edit the IRQ of the serial port (it looks like prunes A) For the parallel port can only choose between Standard ECC + ESP etc..
    Does anyone know help me?
    thank you very much

    Perhaps a more complete model number would help.  In looking with that  limited model number there are several listed, even an AIO unit.  In the models such as the small form factor model, there is no parallel port ( which is normally  LPT ) shown.  What actual output port is being addressed as the LPT?

  • HP Compaq 8100 Elite, HP Support Assistant freezes

    Each time i start HP Support Assistant it freezes and closes

    Hi,
    I would suggest uninstalling your current version of HPSA - open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry for HP Support Assistant and select uninstall.  When this has completed, restart the PC then download and install the latest version from the page on the link below.
    http://h18021.www1.hp.com/helpandsupport/hp-support-assistant.html
    The relevant download option are towards the botton of the page.  After you have completed the installation, restart the PC again.

  • What's the max RAM for HP Elite 8200 minitower?

    Hi, I'm looking at getting an HP Compaq 8200 Elite CMT PC (part number LE245PA) and have a question about the maximum RAM it will take. The PC is the one at http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/au/en/sm/WF05a/12454-12454-64287-3328898-3328898-5037949.html?dnr=1
    Page 10 of http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13879_na/13879_na.pdf is a bit ambiguous and I can't work out whether the max is 16GB, or whether it is 32GB.
    It says "1GB, 2GB, and 4GB DDR3 DRAM technologies are supported. Using 4 GB device technologies, the largest memory capacity possible is 32 GB, assuming dual channel mode with four x 8 GB dual ranked unbuffered DIMM memory configuration".
    But then the table at the bottom of the same page seems to imply that that maximum is 16GB.
    Can anyone please advise whether the maximum is 16GB or 32GB in this model?
    This question was solved.

    Hi:
    I don't understand all that rigamarole.
    It is very confusing. It appears that HP copied some info from Intel regarding the chipset's specs and I couldn't make heads or tails of it on the Intel site either.
    Max RAM per slot is 4 GB.
    I installed 16 GB in mine.

  • Hp compaq elite won't recognise blank CDs & DVDs

    I have an HP Compaq 8200 Elite Small Form Factor PC. It won't recognise when a blank CD or DVD is inserted into the drive. The green light comes on briefly, then there's a whirling sound but the light goes out. I can't burn CDs or DVDs. It recognises CDs & DVDs with material on them. I'm stuck. Any ideas?

    Hi:
    First right click on the drive in My Computer and select properties.  Make sure there is a recording tab and that recording is enabled.
    If it is...
    You can try performing each of the resolution steps, 2, 3, 4 and 5 at the link below.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
    If that does nothing, well, either there is a major problem with the operating system that would require you to back up all data you don't want to lose and do a system recovery and...
    If that doesn't fix the problem, then the drive has malfunctioned and needs to be replaced.

  • How to get DP name via script

    Hello,
    We are migrating from Symantec Altiris to SCCM 2012. In our current environment we have both HP models and now moving towards Lenovo models. We are using both respective Enterprise solutions for managing driver that is HP SSM and Lenovo Thininstaller.
    We have 3 sites/locations with exactly the same shares on each one. We are using a script with a built in Altiris token that finds out what DP or Taskserver (in Altiris Environment) the client is connected to.
    How can I define a DP with the same type of script in SCCM?
    Are there any tokens for DP?
    Are there any specific local files or usuble values that changes when connecting to other DPs?
    Can I somehow query bounderies in a script and then use IF statement to connect them to a specific share?
    I know that I can use one share if I want to but that will use a lot of network trafic since we have the DPs on different locations throughout the country. One idea I had was to make 3 different packages with one DP specified in each
    one and then connect them to its specific boundary.
    The good part to make it work all in one script is that it can be applied to any client in the organisation to update their current drivers and not just to use in initial deployment.
    I found a vbs script that can echo a DP, but how do I implement it into my script?
    http://sccmguru.wordpress.com/2014/04/22/show-dp-in-use-during-task-sequence/
    '// Purpose: Used to find active Distribution Point
    '// Version: 1.0 - April 15, 2014 - Odd-Magne Kristoffersen
    '// This script is provided "AS IS" with no warranties
    Set env = CreateObject("Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment")
    ENV_SMSTSHTTPTHI0000D = env("_SMSTSHTTPTHI0000D")
    SMSTSHTTPTHI0000D = Split(ENV_SMSTSHTTPTHI0000D,"/",-1,1)
    DP = split(SMSTSHTTPTHI0000D(2),".",-1,1)
    Echo DP(0)
    Here is my script in short format. I didn't bother putting all the models.
    The value %MODEL% is from the Query in the beginning of the script and the %TASKSERVER% value is an Altiris token the can be used when running a script with the agent credentials.
    @echo off
    set model=
    FOR /F "tokens=2 delims='='" %%A in ('wmic ComputerSystem Get Model /value') do SET model=%%A
    Echo This is a %MODEL%
    IF "%MODEL%" == "HP EliteBook 820 G1" GOTO HP Updates
    IF "%MODEL%" == "HP EliteBook 840 G1" GOTO HP Updates
    IF "%MODEL%" == "HP Compaq 8000 Elite SFF PC" GOTO HP Updates
    IF "%MODEL%" == "HP Compaq 8100 Elite SFF PC" GOTO HP Updates
    IF "%MODEL%" == "HP Compaq 8200 Elite SFF PC" GOTO HP Updates
    IF "%MODEL%" == "HP Compaq Elite 8300 SFF" GOTO HP Updates
    IF "%MODEL%" == "20AQ007UMS" GOTO Lenovo Updates
    IF "%MODEL%" == "20AL00BYMS" GOTO Lenovo Updates
    IF "%MODEL%" == "10AB000YMX" GOTO Lenovo Updates
    IF "%MODEL%" == "20C0003TMS" GOTO Lenovo Updates
    IF "%MODEL%" == "20AL007NMS" GOTO Lenovo Updates
    IF "%MODEL%" == "10AAS0HN00" GOTO Lenovo Updates
    exit 1
    :Hp Updates
    \\%TASKSERVER%\Share\ssm.exe \\%TASKSERVER%\Share /ACCEPT /INSTALL /DEBUG /TITLE:"HP Updates" /NOREBOOT
    RMDIR "c:\ssm" /s /q
    exit 0
    :Lenovo Updates
    xcopy \\%TASKSERVER%\Share\Thininstaller c:\Thininstaller /S /H /I /Y
    c:\Thininstaller\Thininstaller.exe /CM -search A -action INSTALL -repository \\%TASKSERVER%\Share\Repository-noicon -includerebootpackages 0,3 -showprogress -noreboot
    RMDIR "c:\Thininstaller" /s /q
    exit 0

    The way these two driver management systems work is that the exe is not installed, only executed with different switches to look inside a share with drivers to match what is installed on the client and apply the missing drivers.
    I have checked other threads with HP ssm and Lenovo Thininstaller regarding SCCM implementation and they all create a package for the exe and apply the command switches. Exactly as many of you already described here.
    That works if you have only ONE share. I manage 3 shares, one for each geographical location that we prep Windows installations. This to make it faster for the client to download the drivers and to not use/load the WAN unnecessarily.
    I read on another thread that I can't query a dp because it's assigned only when the client requires content.
    The only workaround as I see it is to:
    1. Create 3 different packages with different  shares in the command line. And somehow apply a detection method in the task sequence to figure out location (DP, IP, DNS, boundary, Assigned Domain Controller).
    2. Create 3 different packages and 3 different roles in MDT, one for every location.
    3. Only use one share on the location that mostly is used for Windows installations and accept that it will take longer for the drivers to be applied on the other locations.
    Which one should I go for?
    Many of you may think that I should use the standard way of managing drivers in SCCM. But this is so much easier. I never have to package drivers or hardware applications like HP Connection Manager. I can reapply the package to any client in production and
    update the drivers and model specific applications if needed.

  • WSUS 3.0 SP2 Some clients have not yet reported

    Hi, I am ready to tear my hair out here. My WSUS Server is running version 3.0 SP2 (Server Version 3.2.7600.274. I have installed the following KB's on the server (KB2720211, KB2734608 and KB29308066). Around 60% of my clients have a status of not yet reported.

  • [SOLVED] systemd Boot Time

    I noticed something odd when I analyzed boot times...
    systemd-analyze shows:
    Startup finished in 2.339s (kernel) + 1min 30.682s (userspace) = 1min 33.022s
    That is showing 1min 33s for userspace which is NOT right at all. I was in my xfce desktop by the 9s mark.
    systemd-analyze blame:

    I ran "sudo journalctl -b" on a fresh boot and got 1,229 lines adding up to roughly 54 seconds, starting at 20:22:52, ending at 20:23:43...still doesn't add up to 1 minute 33 seconds as shown by systemd-analyze, but what's interesting is that most of the boot up process is executed very quickly, and only in the last few lines is where most time is spent.
    I will post the log so hopefully someone might shed some light. Like I said, I think the problem is in the last few lines, and I've gone through it several times hoping to find the problem, but I'm still a new so any help is appreciated!

  • Win 7 x64 - Need to repair a single driver, but can't use System Restore

    Basic Info - an HP/Compaq Elite 8200 Convewrtible Minitower with 2 extra SATA drives & a Creative SoundBlaster card installed.
    Background:  My system had begun going into Blue Screen (BS hereafter) every couple of days with a message that the BIOS was not "fully ACPI compliant."  I contaced HP and was able to obtain & install the needed BIOS upgrade.  Following this, I decided to do some housekeeping & checked for out-of-date drivers.  I installed these one at a time, as I had a previous bad experience with updating too many drivers, particularly Intel chipset drivers, at a single time.  When I finished the last update, which involved two drivers labeled IntStrA and IntStrB, if I recall correctly (I'm posting this from my PC at work, so I may have the names off by a character or so) my system began going BS after ~10 minutes or so.  Nearly every BS referenced the MicroSoft system driver wdf01000.sys.
    It is my belief that either wdf01000.sys became corrupted, or the last 2 updates were having a negative impact on the M S driver.  Unfortunately, if I try to use System Restore to roll back the suspect updates, the system will BS ~1-2 minutes after the m essage "Restore is initializing" appears.
    The only solution I can get from the HP Tech is to back up my data and then use the "Erase, Reformat & Reinstall" function from the Recovery Disks.  Unfortunately, with a system that goes B S every 10 minutes, it is impossible to perform a reliable back-up for all 3 disks, while the Recovery Disk is only willing to back up my drive F:\, not my primary OS Drive, C:\ or my other drive, G:\ (the HP Recovery partition is drive D:\).
    My questions are:
    1.  If the problem is a corrupted WDF01000.sys is it possible to obtain a reliable copy of & replace it?  (The HP tech warned about the danger of obtaining a copy of a MicroSoft sysem file from the internet - a danger of which I was fully aware - but, isn't there at least one system in HP's possession running Windows 7 x64 professional?  I should think a file supplied from HP would be sufficiently safe.  However, when I raise the possibility with the tech, there is no response.)
    2.  If the problem stems from the last 2 Intel driver updates, is there a way to get a functional OS loaded from DVD that would peremit System Restore to run?  My last system had Win 7 installed from MS media and, as I recall, once loaded, the use of System Restore was one of the repair options.  The HP Recolvery disks only offer 2 choices - back-up (which would only cover drive F:\, with <10% of my 4+ years worth of data) or "Erase, Reformat & Reinstall."  Following this course would put at risk ~90% of my data, not to mention the grief of reinstalling a great deal of software.
    3.  The HP tech tells me that, since Recovery is only willing to back up drive F:\, this is where the Recovered OS would be installed.  This would give me the independently loaded OS I sought in question 2.   However, I greatly fear that drive where recovery operated would be my primary OS drive, C:\.  If this were the case, the result would be disastrous!  I do have back-up via Carbonite, but I don't think this has been operating properly since the ACPI-related BSs began.
    So -- any suggestions?  Anything that gets me out of this problem without loss of data will be most sincerely appreciated!

    Hello TomF,
    Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
    I understand that after running some updates your system is getting BSOD errors associated with the Windows file wdf01000.sys. Now I cannot claim to be able to get you a copy of that file. I am not sure just replacing it would resolve your issue anyways. I can do this for you I can tell you that first the HP Compaq 8200 Elite Convertible Minitower PC is a commercial product. You can do this at you may get more assistance by posting this on the commercial forums at  Business PCs - Compaq, Elite, Pro.
    Additionally, I would suggest you start your computer in Safe Mode and using an elevated command prompt run the command "SFC /SCANNOW". You can do this by right-clicking on the Command Prompt link and choosing Run as adminstator. Also, you can use chkdsk to run another repair on your files to see if they can be repaired.
    The SFC /SCANNOW command will run the System File Checker to see if it can repair any corrupted system files where the chkdsk will do the same, but for ALL the files on your computer.
    I am also providing you with resources on both below:
    Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files
    Run Check Disk from a Command Line to Check for and fix Disk Errors
    I hope this helps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
