Setting up controlled itunes for kids
I am looking for a way to set up an itunes accounts with an allowance for our daughter (which I have found directions for) while still allowing her to maintain access to the app/music etc. that are associated with my account. RIght now I have her device as one of the devices on my account. I am trying to avoid rebuying already purchased apps and in the future buying multiple copies of the same app for each child.
Do you want to share purchases among the different devices?
Note:
- Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
- To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

Setting up separate accts for kids - how to associate acct with their device?
I've seen many discussions on this topic, but I am still confused. I want to have more structure around how much my kids spend on iTunes - mostly games and apps. I also want them to have more autonomy using their iPod touches. So, I created 2 iTunes accounts for them and set up an allowance for each. I want all three accounts and devices (my iTouch and their two iTouches) to sync to one Library on our one iMac. I've gone into my daughter's device and "connected" it to her new iTunes account - but what is it supposed to look like when I log into the iTunes account? If I log into her iTunes account on the computer - should I see her device associated with that account? Right now I don't. Should I remove it from the list of associated devices on MY account? Can we all still share the music in our ONE library? I don't know what to do next...thanks.

Best way to set up iPod Touch for kids
Ok, I know that this has been asked before, but I couldn't find a similar question SINCE Mountain Lion was released, and wasn't sure what iCloud changes have happened since, so here I am asking the question again.
I've bought our two oldest girls (aged 11 & 10) an iPod Touch each (4th generation models) for Christmas. Now, both my wife and I have iPhone 5s, sharing one Apple ID for iTunes purposes (music, apps, etc) but separate iCloud accounts for Find My Phone, Calendars, Reminders etc. This is all managed on my MacBook Pro and on the iPhones themselves.
Now, on our iMac (running Mountain Lion), we have a user account for every member of the family. We don't use the iMac for our iPhones, although our Apple ID is used in my account for the purpose of AirPlay mirroring on the Apple TV.
Now, the older girls are at an age where they are starting to get independent. They do have an email address each (neither uses these too much yet), one has an account with Skype for chatting to school friends, etc. So I was thinking it would make sense to give them the ability to connect their iPod touches to iTunes on their individual accounts on the iMac. (They'd probably have to share an Apple ID so as not to have to pay for the same apps, games, music, etc, twice). But is this the best way to go?
Or do I set up a new user account on the iMac (for them to share) for use only with their iPod touches?
Or do I just control it all myself via my MacBook Pro? (Not sure how practical this will be as they get older and more "private").
I guess I want them to have the freedom to purchase music on their devices (I know I could set up an account with a monthly top up) but at the same time I want to have some control as well, so will be setting restrictions on their devices.
Any other suggestions, tips? Any other issues or considerations?

The subject pretty much covers it - their mother has the iPods set up under her apple ID but we want to set them up for texting.
I already found out how to set up iMessage (settings/Messages - on/may have to enter the Apple ID manually/use the green "messages" app to send texts), but the issue is the Apple ID. Thanks!You need an email address unique to each Apple ID. Why not just get an email address and create an Apple ID with a credit card?
Create a NEW account using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.

"The registry setting used by itunes for burning CDs are missing"
Whenever I start up Itunes... I get this error message.
"The registry settings used by the Itunes drivers for importing & burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall Itunes".
Problem is... when I reinstall itunes nothing changes.
I've got Roxio cd-burning software installed on my computer. Is there a conflict with this software?
I can't burn songs from Itunes on to a CD. I haven't tried importing a CD or DVD but I'm guessing that won't work either.
Any advice??

Lost photos when setting up on itunes for first time
My daughter today took some photos on on her brand new ipod touch 7. When she went to set up the ipod touch for the first time on itunes, the connecting cable accidently was pulled from the pc resulting in her photos vanishing from her ipod touch but not being recorded on the pc. All this on her 12th birthday! Is there a a way to recover the photos from her ipod which appear to be deleted as this is no trace of them. I really would appreciate your help please as she has lost all her birthday photos. Many thanks in advance of a solution. Thanks.

How to setup iTunes for a classroom

I am an elementary school music teacher and am looking for an easy way to setup a lab of cast off computers and new ones combined. My intended use for this lab is to run listening stations via iTunes for kids to listen to songs on and answer questions and in the future use a program like Finale Note Pad which helps them write music. I have been going to each computer with a flash drive, deleting old songs, and loading the songs. I would like to do the following...
--load songs remotely, or have each computer access a different list of songs
--prevent the student computers from modifying info on the songs
--limit the access to other applications using parental controls (I have this one done, but it may interfere with some ideas)
These computers are all on the school's network and I would like to run them in Simple Finder and they can't have access to any other music but the music they need for the assignment. The kids using these will be as young as 2nd and 3rd graders and up to middle school so the appropriateness of the music and computer skills are a factor. What I have for the middle schoolers is not ok for the 8 year olds. I can either put on and take off songs (preferably by remote) or use different logins.
SO, here is the interesting part:

4G4 macs running 10.5.8
G4 Digital Audio running 10.5.8 1GB ram
G4 Gigabit running 10.5.8 1 GB
G4 933 MHz running 10.5.8 1GB

and the computer that has all the music files is my teacher computer, 2009 MacBook running Yosemite

any way I can make this easy and remote? Am I going to run into problems with the max number of machines that can play the music?

joeyCreate a master playlist on the teacher's computer and share it via regular library sharing over the network. It will appear on each student's iTunes as a shared library. Students cannot modify it.

Common control buttons for animation+video
I wan to be able to embed an animation like one of these http://http://www.texample.net/tikz/examples/tag/animations/, which has its own control buttons,
alongside a regular video, and have both of them run by a common set of control buttons for play/pause/rewind.
For example, the video could be a video of an actual object or a ball falling, and the animation could be the animated drawing of some math formula related to the fall of the object.

The simplistic idea here is to manually perform what a program would do. So I will use A as the master control and place B on top of the control button for the video and put C on the control button for animation. Then when I click on A it is as if I have pressed B and C simultaneously. -
My children will be getting nano from Santa claus. I would love to have a separate account for them that looks like kids interface (HINT HINT) Anyway I don't want them on my account as I am an adult and have explicit language on mine. What can I do? I tried to put it on the side of their computer that isn't accessable from mine... but it keeps saying there is a copy running already. so that means it can see the one that is running on my side.

I did not know my kids had set up an Itunes account for me with one user name and password. then i got an i phone and set it up with a different email address and new password. how can i get my accounts to merge so i can have all of my music on my iphone

You can set up your iCloud account on your iOS device under: "Settings > iCloud" and a other account for store purchases under "Settings > iTunes & App Stores". Unfortunately merging accounts is not possible but you could transfer all of your music manually via iTunes from your Mac or PC. -

Should they have their own accounts so there's no worry about using my credit card? Do all the apps they download have to sync with my iPad.I keep mine on my iTunes account so I don't have to track multiple accounts with separate purchases. All you need to do is go to Settings > Restrictions and enable a 4-digit PIN and disable certain features, like in-app purchases, forget itunes password immediately, delete apps, change accounts, etc. Add the account "find my iPhone" and then you can track where they are if needed too. By not allowing account changes, they can't add, delete, or chagne any email, calendar, or contacts accounts after it's setup.

How can I set up anApple ID for my 9 years old. Every time I try it tells me he is bolew the min age. If this is the case how can he download free games and how can he redeem his birthday $30 iTunes card? I dont want him to use my ID as it has my credit card details.
I'm very fustrated with this as it seems the Apple kit is for 13 years and older only.

I was intending on just keeping one library (this does contain music with explicit lyric content etc) and manage their music via separate playlists.
As far as accounts and restrictions go, I was going to set them up with their own itunes account (using mail addresses only I can use). Load the account up with a voucher each.
The restrictions I was going to apply at the iPod (rather than the account) using a PIN I know - this way you can limit Safarii browsing (i.e. turn it off), youtube, and the age limit to the apps they can install and run - and the movie ratings allowed etc.
Happy to hear other ideas though - I'm intending on setting this up BEFORE they get them. -
Help setting up ipad minis for our two kids.
We purchased ipad minis for my two kids this Christmas (ages 6 & 8). I have been working on setting them up so they are ready to use. I created gmail accounts and Apple ID accounts to use for messaging and FaceTime only. I put restrictions so they can not use email, Facebook, Twitter, Safari, etc. I plan on using a kid friendly browsing such as Mobicip. The part I am getting hung up is being able to put certain things on their iPads from my wife's iTunes account. We have decided to use her account to sync with their new iPads. Obviously, the kids will not have access to her password on iTunes. She has very few game apps on her ipad. I would like to add fun appropriate kid games to her iTunes account to sync to their iPads, but not my wife's. The same thing with iBooks and music. Some of my wife's books are not kid appropriate. I know you can create playlists to share music. What is the best way to go about setting up iTunes? Any other things I am forgetting to keep inappropriate material from curious kids.

Can I set parental control on firefox for a specific user only?
I'm using windows 7 and firefox 18.0.2. On my PC I have my Admin account and my kids account. Now as they're coming to an age they're needing Internet access for projects and so on, I wonder if I can set parental control on firefox (by add-on?) as I have on windows, so that whenthey log on their account, firefox will only allow access to what I have allowed. That is, limit internet usage ONLY on their account, while I'll still be able to use firefox unrestrictedly. I don't want to have them use another browser that I' m not as familiar with just so I can set parental control on everything on that browser. Any ideas?
If you mean you want to block certain sites by some parental control software, you can try a web filter to block sites by URL or keywords.
