Setting up correct sequnce settings for animation imports

I've created some animation scenes that I want to assemble into a movie in FCP. The highest quality export is as 720, I guess HD, at 20 fps, all info I only found out after having exported. Using Easy Setup I chose DVCPRO HD 720np30. The other sensible seeming option was HDV 720p30. Is either preferable? I am talking not just about in a sequence but when outputting for dvds. I guess there's no problem exporting for internet.

My experience with exporting animations from After Effects is that I use the Animation compression and dump that Quicktime into whatever sequence setting I eventually wanted the media to end up as. So if I were creating a DVCPro HD project, I'd just use the Easy setup with those settings and dump the animations in there.
Since you are using 20 fps instead of a normal television frame rate, you might run into some issues. Why not export the animations at 30p or whatever matches your sequence settings? If you are just going out to DVDs, then why not just create a DV timeline and match your animation fps to your FCP sequence? Also, remember to export a de-interlaced version of your sequence when going to web.

• How to set the same General settings for all users

Hi Experts,
How can i set the same general settings for all users e.g. marking the checkbox "Display header" to true for all users? General settings are possible under User Settings Button.
Regards,
Arti.

Hi Arti!
You can default user settings in a PFCG role, in the "personalization" tab.
If you have a PFCG role that is common to all your users, you can set the default values here.
However it does not prevent them to change these settings later, except if you modify the "user settings" fields properties in cProjects application.

Doesn't sound like it. It sounds like you're being logged-off.
Does your Mac go through the complete Restart cycle -- black screen, gray and/or blue screen momentarily, startup chime, etc?
If you're not sure, do a Restart just to watch the process; the next time the problem occurs, see if it's the same.
You need to know which it is, as these will have very different causes, and different places to look for a solution.

• Correct Format Settings for Import

I'm trying to figure out the correct settings for exporting a project from Avid Adrenaline to then import for iDVD at the best quality.
I've tried QT movie. It looks fine. Then I import it into iMovie to create chapters then to iDVD. The finished product has some issues playing back movement... most noticed in lip movement. Could iMovie be causing this problem?

• When I try to set my 'History Setting' to 'Use custom settings for history' it doesn't appply - it continually defults to 'Never Remember History' - how do I fix it?

When I got into my 'History Setting' and click on 'Use custom settings for history' it doesn't apply. I click on the 'OK' tab and it appears to apply and then closes. When I go back into it, in order to see if it applied, it has reset back to the 'Never Remember History'. How do I fix it?

If "Never Remember History" is displayed then that means that you are in Private Browsing mode and that all other history settings have the default value.

If you intend to run Firefox in Private Browsing mode the that is OK.
Otherwise you need to leave mode.
To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history

Yes, they should work. For the outgoing SMTP, you might try using Apple Token instead of your password.

• Correct video settings for a Nikon D300s to input into Adobe Premiere Elements 10?

I understand that it is critical when using Adobe Premiere Elements 10 that the video settings of your project match the settings of your camera. I want to upload video from my Nikon D300s DSLR which has the video setting options of 480P (640 x 480), 576P (720 x 576), 720P (1,280 x 720), and 1080i (1,920 x 1,080). I will primarly be making videos either to upload to You Tube, or save on a dvd. Can anyone tell me which would be th right settings for my camera and Premiere?

It depends on which resolution you're shooting your videos in.
It looks like that cam shoots in 1280x720 at 24p. There should be a DSLR project setting for that.
But if the camera shoots in all of the video modes you've listed, you can shoot it in any -- just make sure to select the DSLR project settings that match the video.

• I have lost the correct proxy settings for the ethernet connection using Safari. How do I get back to the original ethernet proxy settings?

I changed the ethernet proxy settings for Safari on my Mac Pro, when I was in a particular place that required extra security. Now I cannot get the ethernet connection to work when back home. The wireless connection works fine. What are the original ethernet proxy settings. How do I make the changes?
Thanks

From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Advanced tab. Click Change Settings next to Proxies. Select Automatically from the Configure pop up menu.
You may also have to select the Proxies tab. If any of the boxes are selected, deselect then click OK.

• Correct settings for file import?

I can't get FCP to import a QT MOV file. In QT, the info window for the video says:
"Format: DVCPRO, 720 x 576 (768 x 576)...
FPS: 25.16...etc"
I have tried setting FCP to DVC PRO PAL, and to various other DVC PAL settings. None of them work. I keep getting the horrid little error message: "File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown." which means FCP isn't recognizing the file no matter what settings I try. Any suggestions?

I have contacted them and they are very responsive. I'm waiting for a reply on this particular issue. The mystery is that I have imported several other files output by Cinematize into FCP with no problem. I suspect the dodgy frame rate. If I could I would send you a grab of the QT info window which gives the info on the clip in question, but I see no link to attachments on this list.

• How Best to Import iPhone 4 video into Premier Pro CS5 - Settings for new import "sequence preset"?

Shooting video with my iPhone 4 (ATT version) and am trying to import file into Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.3) running on Macintosh OS 10.6.6.
The problem is that I am simply guessing on how to import sequence, and the result is that I am getting motion artifacts and generally inferior quality. I am using iMovie 11 as my basis for comparison. Not surprisingly, iMovie 11 imports from iPhone beautifully, but when I've looked around inside of it for properties, there isn't much to see.
From using Apple's built in quicktime "inspector," it is possible to see that iPhone4 video has following properties:

dimensions: 1280 x 720
codecs: H.264, AAC
Color Profile: HD (1-1-1)

Seeking advice on how to smoothly and *losslessly* import/ingest iphone4 footage into PPro CS5. (I am not worried about exporting for iPhone display, which is what most of the information I can find relates to).
Thanks in advance, Michael

Wow. Thanks Colin.
When I follow your approach, I don't get the same "sequence preset" dialog box popping up.
FU question, though, the motion is frequently jagged. Is there a way to smooth out/increase the quality of the rendering? I have 16gb ram, Mac Pro. which is able to handle iPhone video rending fine in quicktime. (I've tried rendering for "performance" and "memory" but both seem to produce, eh results.).

• Quicktime Export Settings for Keynote Import? Keynote freaks out 16:9 clips

I have 1440 x 1080i HDV footage imported into the latest FCP that is getting exported into Keynote. I notice that most of the exports and imports into Keynote end up doing weird stuff, like reducing the resolution, or turning it into a 4;3 format even though it is 16:9 on the export.
I don't care about the file size with Keynote, so I don't want to compress it any further than how HDV ruins footage to begin with.
So far the only thing that has worked is exporting it as a ProRes file.
Do any of you have recommendations on individual clip FCP export settings/workflows?
Thanks!

Yes, the Keynote presentation slides/project is set for 1920x1080, the reason is I'm outputting via a high lumens projector that natively projects at 1920x1080p.
Even though a Macbook Pro does not have a screen that size, the Macbook can send out even larger than 1920x1080, but I am limiting the output to the native screen res of the projector.
