Setting up e-mail accounts on nokia 6230i

i need help on setting up a hotmail account for use on my nokia 6230i. i have no idea how to do this so a step by step guide will be most grateful. please help

The phone's email support is for Internet standards for email access.
For sending/outgoing email that means SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol). In other words, you need to specify your email service providers SMTP server for the outgoing mail (or your phone network operators SMTP server, if the operator requires that their server is used).
For receiving/incoming email, that means either POP3 (Post Office Protocol version 3), or IMAP4 (Internet Mail Access Protocol version 4). Depending on the mail service provider, they could limit you to use one or the other, or allow either one.
In the case of Hotmail the problem is that Microsoft has chosen not to support these Internet email standards at all for accessing Hotmail mailboxes, as far as I know.
Until Microsoft does that, you can't use the phone's email support for direct email access.
However, you should be able to use the phone's built-in WAP browser ("Services", or whatever it is called on the 6230i) to access Hotmail through http://mobile.msn.com/wml/
There could be some intermediate email service providers that can act as a front-end service to provide this SMTP and POP3/IMAP4 access to their servers, and they access Hotmail using Hotmail's proprietary/non-standard mechanisms, or whatever. With such an intermediary, you would have to give your Hotmail/Passport username and password to the intermediary. Not necessarily very safe.

  • Can't set up new Mail accounts on N8

I want to add another email account to my N8 (and set it up as IMAP rather than POP3 if possible?)  however, I have to set it up through the Wizard, there doesn't seem to be a way of manually setting one up since PR1.1 update (correct?)
However, whenever I try, my phone attempts to contact Nokia's mail server or something and says 'Preparing for setup' for ages then times out. It then asks me for a username and password, and the only options I get for setting up a mail account is a Microsoft Exchange Server option, which I don't think Yahoo mail offer!
    Can anyone help?

Just a thought network access point is defined as Priority 1 in internet destinations rather than WLAN?

  • How do I set up a mail account for an older macbook?

I'm trying to set up a mail account for my dad on a used (but refurbished) macbook. It's running 0SX10.6.8. I'm not sure how to configure the incoming and outgoing mail servers. I didn't have to do this for my macbook air and my brother did not have to do it for his pro. I don't know if im supposed to use POP or IMAP. A window will pop up asking  for the account type, incoming mail server, user name, and password. I don't know what to do from here.

    Hello,
Your Internet/email service provider should be able to tell you exactly what to enter. You may also want to take a look at the following web page:

  • Difference between Exchange and IMAP tabs when setting up a mail account

I understand that for iPhone to communicate with Exchange, IMAP access is required:
"Exchange email accounts must be configured for IMAP to work with iPhone" (from the iPhone user guide)
My questions is, what (exactly) is the difference between the IMAP and Exchange tabs when setting up a mail account on the iPhone? I have it working with secure IMAP inbound (port 993) and SMTP outbound (port 25) on my Exchange Server 2003 server; however I would like to know the difference between plain "IMAP" and "Exchange" in the iPhone configuration.
Searching the forums has revealed lots of people asking how to set up IMAP on Exchnage (Microsoft documentation would seem a good place to start), but I don't seem to be able to answer this question.
If anybody knows the answer, I'd be most grateful. One post suggested that there is no difference; however I can't imagine Apple cluttering the interface with an option if there is an existing feature that's identical!

Thanks for answering Lawrence. I'm not using Outlook as the computer I sync with is running Mac OS X with Office for Mac 2004, but guess it considers Outlook and Entourage to be the same.
I'm still a little bit confused when you say "takes the settings" as most Outlook clients are not configured for IMAP (MAPI-RPC is the native protocol, although some may use HTTP-RPC) and mine didn't seem to take any settings automatically - I had to set it up manually on the iPhone.

  • Is there a way to sync notes from my iPod Touch to the new Mountain Lion Notes app on my Mac without setting up a Mail account?

I want to get notes off of my iPod, but I don't want to make set up a Mail account because I just check my mail online, and I don't want to hassle with using the app.

You could probably use something like PhoneView
    http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/
but, frankly, I thnk that's more of hassle than just setting up an iCloud or other IMAP account on the iPad.
Even if Notes syncing is the only feature you use, it's going to be a far more seemless experience.

  • I am trying to set up a mail account but I get a warning that my password cannot be sent securely to the server.  how do I correct the problem?

I am trying to set up a mail account but I get a warning that my password cannot be sent securely to the server.  How do I correct this so that I can set up my email account?

    1. If you haven't tried this already, just delete the user account entirely, and then try setting it up again.
    2. To find the permissions file:
         a. hold down the option key
         b. go to the Go menu in the finder
         c. scroll down to Library and open it
         d. in Library, go to Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences
         e. drag it to the trash and restart.
    3. if that doesn't work, go to Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access. In the Keychain Access menu, do Keychain First Aid, and repair.
This should keep you busy for a while.

  • When I try to set up e-mail accounts the mail settings icon goes back to main screen. I have tried restoring and the same thing happens.

I have a new ipad2 3G and have a vodafone sim. Internet is working, but when I try to follow instructions to set up e-mail accounts (Settings/Mail Settings) it pops back to the main menu screen. I have restored and checked that restrictions are set to off, but still the same thing happens.

If you selected open a new Apple ID account, go back a step and enter use existing Apple ID.
You will have to set up a separate iCloud account or your iPads will mirror each other.

  • Im having trouble setting up my mail account, my mail will send but not receive and it is a  hotmail live account. Any soloutions on how to fix this

Hi i have a Windows Live Account and have been trying to set up my 'Mail" account. I can set it up to send my messages but am unable to get it to receive my mail. Does anyone know how it should be set up in case I've set one part of it wrong or how I would find out what is preventing it from working?
    Thanks

iMessage and FaceTime went down yesterday for some people. Mine is still down. My iMessage is saying the same thing about being activated. Sounds like you are still down too. Ignore the status page that says everything is fine - it lies.

  • HT3376 I have a Yahoo plus account. When I set up the mail account the Bulk Mail (Trash), Deleted Messages,Draft,Drafts,Junk, and Sent Folders all appear on my iPhone. Is there a way to prevent this?

I have a Yahoo Account. When I set up the mail account the  Bulk Mail, Deleted Messages, Draft, Drafts, Junk, Sent, and Sent Messages appear on all of my iPhones, my PC, my Macbook and any other wifi product that receives mail. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of these duplicate mailbox folders??
    Thanks

I just called apple care to even know how to respond to this answer. I am very old and this was my first post ever. I appreciate you taking the time to give me an answer. I also ask them how to delete this account because every time I log in it wants me to change my password and I have run out of passwords. I don't even know what it means when it ask me the community I want to be in.
The only thing I know about syncing is syncing my iPhone to my MacBook Pro. I apologize that I am so technically stupid. Does mail have syncing???
Thank you even if I never figure out how to get back to this site again.

  • Setting up web mail account for OWA

Company just coverted OWA mail to cloud on a Outlook Web App.  Can access via iMAC, but can't set up as mail account on iPad or iPhone.

I've not tested it but if you simply leave the incoming mail server field in the Mail account preferences blank for that account blank but set up the outgoing server and do not check "include when automatically checking new mail" you should be able to send but not receive
OR undo the forward that you have set up from #2 to #1 and use both normally

  • How can I delete an E-Mail account in Nokia 6300

I have setup an E-Mail account (e.g Gmail) on my Nokia 6300. I would like to delete this account which is no longer needed. I couldn’t find any delete option there. Before Nokia 6300, I have used Nokia E-50. It has a very simple option in Connect folder to delete or manage these E-mail accounts. Waiting for you response.

Simply enter the configurations menu from settings, go to personal config and the account should be listed there, select options and delete.

  • How do I set an e-mail account as default for new messages?

I have two different e-mail accounts set up on my iphone. I want to be able to use the e-mail view that includes messages from all accounts/inboxes. When I am in that view and create a new message, my iphone will automatically select one of my accounts. It is unfortunately not the one I most often want to use. I don't find a way to change that setting - but I am sure it is possible! How do I do it... Thanks!

No I don't have that option. I can see the corresponding option for calendars so I understand where it should be - but it isn't there. It's as if the account set up by mobileiron is disregarded and the system only thinks I have one account. But still - the mobileiron account is listed right there....
If there isn't a simple solution that I had missed I guess this looks to be a bug, right? How would I report such....?
    Thanks
    Joakim
