Setting up email accounts on ipad

I recently bought an ipad and am struggling to get my email account to work!
I set up to access my hotmail account through the ipad and now it keeps saying that i have not provided a password for imap! I have no idea what this means, but i currently can't send emails only receive them.
I have no idea what POP account means or what incoming /outgoing mail server hotmail uses or how to find out so would love it if anyone could help me in basic terms (i am no computer buff!).
I  have a wifi connection on ipad 2 which seems to be be fine as i can connect to safari no problems.
Please help as i am not using my ipad to its full potential!!
Thanks

As best I know all ISP providers operating Mail Servers for their customers REQUIRE "password authentication" in order to access and download your email.  Why wouldn't you want to set it?
Hope this helps

  • I have set up email accounts on  iPad but it still uses my gmail account to send emails

I have set up a couple of new email address on the iPad.everytime I send an email out it uses my gmail I'd as the sender

Under the mails settings, the gmail account is the default account. You can change that. If you go into another mailbox, say yahoo. It will use your yahoo account to reply or send. You have to be in that specified email box. As far as clicking a an email off a site or emailing when your not in a specific email box, it will use the default email. You can either change the default in settings or click your email address in the email and change to the one you'd like.

    server ports for ipad settings?

Depends on the email provider, most providers will set this up for you
    settins/mail, contacts, calendars/add account
If provider is not listed, and you need to set up manually, you'll have to contact provider for correct settings
You can check this list for settings

  • I have just set up email accounts and now passcode is being asked for to get into iPad..is their a default?

I have just created email accounts on iPad 2 and now it is asking for passcode on start up ..is there a default passcode?

Are you talking about a passcode just to open the iPad and use it? If yes, there is no default and none is set one out of the box. However...if one of those email accounts is an Exchange account with your employer most likely they remotely set the passcode. You will have to contact your Exchange administrator.

You do not need to specify the type of account.  If its IMAP, when you add the account it will detect that automatically.
Alternatively, you can enter a fake email address and password when adding the account, and wait for the process to fail, you should then get an option at the top to select between IMAP and POP3
You can then change the details of the account to the correct ones.

  • How to use two email accounts on ipad

What is the best way to use 2 email accounts on Ipad? Can we set up email so we both must sign in each time on Gmail? Will both accounts be combined so we see each others mail?

If two users want to share an iPad and each have access to their email - don't use the mail app. Use Safari and web mail.  Since you are both using gmail you can set up a shortcut to the gmail log in page on the home screen.
Navigate to the log in page in Safari. Tap the arrow icon next to the URL field and then select - Add to Home Screen. That will put an icon on the home screen that you can tap on - and it will open Safari to the gmail log in web page.
If you do this you will both have to log in each time that you want to send or read email.

  • Setting up hotmail account on ipad 2

i need to set up hotmail account on ipad how do i do that?

You actually now have the option to set up Hotmail as an Exchange account (a HUGE plus).  Here are directions:
Microsoft recently announced that it it now allowing users to connect their iPhones, iPads and iPod touches to its free webmail service – Windows Live Hotmail – via Exchange ActiveSync. Before, the only option for Hotmail users wanting to access their email on the go was to set up their accounts via POP3 or login via a web browser. Because the POP3 protocol does not reflect changes to email statuses (whether read, deleted, etc) with the server version, so your emails end up out of sync. Exchange ActiveSync, on the other hand, reflects your changes across all devices. Plus, it means all your new Hotmail messages can be pushed directly to your iPhone or iPad.
Even better, setting it up on your iPhone or iPad is relatively simple (and thankfully, the same process on either device):
Open Settings and select ‘Mail, Contacts, Calendars’.
Select ‘Add account’, and choose ‘Microsoft Exchange’.
For ‘Email’, enter your Hotmail email address ([email protected], for example).
Leave the ‘Domain’ field blank, but enter your Username (probably [email protected]) and Password (hopefully not yourname1234).
Give the account a description (this will appear in the Email app to identify the account). Select Next.
After that has verified, a new field – ‘Server’ – will appear. Enter m.hotmail.com in this field. Select Next again.
Choose which services you want to sync (Mail, Contacts and Calendars), and you’re done.
You can also set up how many days worth of mail you want to sync across and which folders should push emails to you.
To set up whether you want your email pushed to your phone (it’s an all-or-none decision if you have multiple Push-enabled accounts), go back to ‘Mail, Contacts, Calendars’, and select ‘Fetch New Data’. Here you can toggle Push on/off or choose to fetch data every 15 minutes, 30 minutes, hourly or manually (the latter will go easiest on your battery).

  • How to set up email account for 9360

    Hello,
I have problem on setting up my email account.. I have a hotmail account but I can't access it through my blackberry. At first I tried to set it up via set up-email account etc but I couldn't. Then I opened my browser, clicked on communication and then integrate hotmail but the stage doesn't''t open at all.It appears the message unknown error, please try again. Can anyone help me???

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
It's a pity that all we have to go on is "but I couldn't"...error messages and step by step of what you try and what happens can be much more helpful in diagnosis. But, from what you describe, it sounds like you don't have an adequate BB-level data plan from your mobile service provider...so I recommend you ring them up (vodafone, according to your profile entry here) to sort this out.
    Good luck!

  • How do I set up email accounts to send emails while travelling overseas using various wifi locations?

How do I set up email accounts to send and receive
emails while travelling overseas using various wifi locations?

Many ISP provided email accounts limit connections to their outgoing SMTP email servers to only connections coming from their own network. So, if you try to send email when not connected to their network (i.e. when not at home), the connection will be rejected.
If you are using an ISP provided email address, in these circumstances, you'll need to ask your ISP if they provide an "authenticated SMTP connection" so that you can send email via their SMTP server when not actually accessing the internet via their network. You'll need to enter your email account username and password in the Outgoing SMTP server settings and possible configure SSL or outgoing port numbers. Your ISP will be able to advise on this though, as the exact setting vary between ISPs.
By far the best solution though, is to use an email account that is not tied to any particular ISP, such as a GMail account, as these can be used from anywhere, on any network and provide authenticated SMTP as standard.
