Setting up Favicon.ico file

I use GoDaddy to Host my site. I don't have MobileMe. In order to set up my site so the favicon.ico file displays on web browser tabs, can anyone run me through the steps to upload the file unto GoDaddy (I don't know where to go on the site) and what all I have to do from there? It'll sure be amazing if I don't have to put favicon.ico HTML code code on each page (yeesh....that'll be painful).

Try putting the icon image up one level.
I can access it directly as follows
http://www.servalonline.com/Serval_Online/favicon.ico
but the browser does not pick it up. It needs to be in the
root level for the site (unless the html tells it other wise).
i.e. http://www.servalonline.com/favicon.ico at the same level
as the Serval_Online folder.

  • Firefox not displaying favicon/.ico file for specific website

    Firefox has always displayed the favicon for my website, until recently. Now there is just a blank space where the favicon should be. I am able to see the favicon for all other websites except my own. It is a wordpress site, so I followed their most recent instructions for adding a favicon. I even tried some other guidelines and tips for adding .ico files, just in case wordpress was missing something, but still no luck. I have double-checked the file format as a 16x16px .ico file and made sure the code & image location within my website directory was correct... Everything looks as it should. The favicon is displaying perfectly in all other browsers I tried, such as Chrome, Safari, Opera & IE. I have cleared my cache, cleared my browser history and even uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox. I also tried another computer using a different IP address. It just isn't displaying.
    When I preview the .ico file under 'page info -> media' it looks like Firefox is locating the image and recognizing the file dimensions, but nothing appears in the preview window and under 'file size' it just says "unknown (not cached)."

    That image doesn't seem to be working in Firefox 3 and 8 (works in Firefox 9 and later).
    It works if I save it as 24 bit instead of 32 bit.

  • Why won't my favicon show up when the code and the favicon.ico file are correct? I am using Dreamweaver CC.

    I have tried numerous .ico file makers and am using the code <link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" /> in the <head> section and the favicon.ico sits above the index file, but it is not showing up on the tab in Firefox or IE. But also thank you for another time saving piece of advice that saved me a lot of time and effort and is not mentioned anywhere. You are so right, "There's really no reason to add the code in the <head> if the favicon.ico is in your site root. Simply placing it there will do the trick in all browsers." I only put the code on my index page because I wasn't sure it would ever show up, and lo and behold, when it finally did this morning, it did on all pages and they had no code.
    It is unfortunate that on all the websites (and I read what felt like all of them) dealing with Favicons, no one mentions these points. It's simple
    create the 16px by 16px favicon.ico
    Place it in the site root
    Empty your cache and bookmark the page
    Wait -- it will show up, possibly the next day.

    If you're hosting your site with MobileMe and have a domain name which you're forwarding with CNAME forwarding you just put the ico file in your iDIsk/Web/Sites folder. 
    If you're hosting to a 3rd party server you put the file in the same folder/directory that you upload your site to.
    If you're hosting your site to MobileMe without a domain name put the favicon.ico file in the iDisk/Web/Sites folder and add the following code to an HTML snippet on each page:

    So what I've done is added the favicon.ico file to my

    Then every webpage should have this code in the HEAD of the page. Something like:

    It cannot be entered in iWeb. You need a HTML Editor.

    The title of a webpage is based on the large textbox at the top of each iWeb page. It's already there. You do not need to add it.

    I an using fusion 11.1.2.1 32 bit. I have Copied the Icons as well as GIF files in C:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_FRHome1\forms\java folder.
    At button property i set Iconic to yes
    and file = addrow
    Icon not display at run time.
    but when i set file = abc.GIF
    image is displaying at run time.
    My doubt is that ICO file not displaying at run time while GIF file are displaying.
    Do i need to change configuration ?

    First Try this steps
    To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
    Double-click My Computer, and then click Options on the View menu.
    Verify that the Icon file type appears on the File Types tab. If the Icon file type does not appear in the Registered File Types box, skip to step 10.
    Click Icon in the Registered File Types box, and then click Edit.
    Verify that the following settings exist, and then click OK:
    The Description Of Type box contains Icon.
    If there is a Confirm Open After Download check box, it should be selected.
    If the settings do not appear exactly as listed in step 4, click Remove, click Yes, and then click OK. If the settings do appear as listed in step 4, skip to step 10.
    Click New Type.
    In the Description Of Type box, type Icon.
    In the Associated Extension box, type ICO.
    Click OK, and then click Close.
    Use Registry Editor to view theHKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.icokey, and then verify that the default string contains the following value:icofileIf the .ico key does not exist, create it, and then insert the value listed above. If any other values exist in the .ico key, delete them.

    2. From within icons folder make a jar file of all the gif images:

    I uploaded my favicon.ico to the root directory, it shows in Chrome, but not in firefox. I've cleared the cache, still not appearing, yet when I type mydomain.com/favicon.ico it appears in firefox.

    The problem is usually that the file size is too large or there are multiple images (layers) in the file or it is an unsupported format.<br />
    I can't tell more about without inspecting the favicon.

    I have an air app, of the HTML variety, and I'd like to be

    In Safari/Webkit you can do this:

    The icon loading code you reference is ActionScript, so you
    could convert it into a utility for turning icons into png files --
    along with a PNG encoder, of course -- which is also available in
    an AS library on Google code. (You can load a SWF utility into a
    page using the script tag.) You could then load the converted png
    file for display.
    ASFAIK, the only way to bridge the image gap between
    ActionScript and JavaScript is through the HTML clipboard, and that
    requires a user-generated paste event before you can access
    it.

    I have added a faviocn.ico to my website. It shows in all browsers but Safari 5.1.1. Does anybody have an idea?

    If anyone else has this question. Do you get a broken favicon (a jittery favicon) or none at all (standard blue sphere)?  In the first case try to change to another ico file. It is something about the colors. I used http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/favicon/ and a transparent png as source and git it to work on Safari 5.1.7 where i hade a broken one before. If you get none try adding type="image/x-icon" to your link rel="shortcut icon" tag.

  • Open .ico files from Bridge CS4

    Hey all,
    I just got done reformatting my hard drive. After reinstalling my Adobe CS4 software, I can't open .ico files from Bridge -- before the hard drive reformat I COULD open .ico files from Bridge. I can open .ico files directly from Photoshop (I've got the telegraphics.com/au .ico plugin installed in Photoshop to open and save .ico files.)
    If I right-click an .ico file in Bridge and select "Open With" the only option is: COM Surrogate 6.1 (default).
    Looking at Preferences > File Type Associations, .ico file type isn't available in the file type list. Anyone know what setting or preference I need to change to open .ico files in Bridge?

    Never mind... I closed Bridge by selecting File > Exit (instead of clicking the close button in the upper-right of the program window) and after restarting I'm able to open the .ico files.

    We have configured a favicon.ico for our application as below code snippet and referring to the favicon.ico image correctly. The icon file is available in our war file post deployment. The problem is some times it displays correctly and sometimes it does not display correctly.

    Browser caching might be a problem, but we can't help as it is a browser issue. All I can say is to clear the browser cache and see if the problem can be reproduced. If yes it doesn't look like a browser problem. Then you have to check if you are connection via proxy which might cache images too. Ask your network admin for help then.
    Do you see this problem only with one browser? Have you check other browsers?

    I have just installed developer 6i on my computer which runs with Windows 98 operating system. Every thing works properly but only one funnything is i found only four or five icon files (.ico) in my harddisk. Then searched in the windows registry to see in which directory these icon files are located, unfortunately i couldn't find out any registry entry for icons. (It's usual - If icon's are not there means why registry entry for icons?.) So now my toolbar buttons are almost naked except save and exit buttons, i don't know from where only these two buttons got icons.
    Any one had the same problem?
    Please give me a solution.

    Hi,
    The icons in webforms have to be in .gif or .jpg format. This is because the webform user interface is handled by java and java uses .gif or .jpg instead of .ico files.
    In order to display icons on web, you will have to set the icons path in Registry.dat file. The Registry.dat file is located in ORACLE_HOME\FORMS60\JAVA\ORACLE\FORMS\REGISTRY\.
    You need to create a directory mapping for the web listener and add the virtual directory to the 'iconpath' setting in the Registry.dat file.
    For eg, if you have the following directory mapping in your web listner,
    C:\ORANT\webdb\images\ /images/
    then, edit the Registry.dat file as follows,
    default.icons.iconpath=/images/
    Now, all the icons are searched in C:\ORANT\webdb\images
    Note that, when you change the Registry.dat file, you need to stop and restart the Forms server listener in order for the changes to become active.

  • JWS - JNLP - icon using .ico-files?

    I tried to use .ICO-files in the JNLP-<icon>-Tag without success. Also .PNG-files don't work.
    The search with google also found only questions but no answers.
    Additionally I only found samples using .GIF-files!
    We want to use "rounded" pictures for desktop links, thus we need a format with transparent colors support.
    Additionally we want to have the ability to use different sizes depending on desktop settings.
    The .ICO-file format - out of the box - supports both of that!
    Does anyone has a RUNNING sample-JNLP using an .ICO-file or .PNG-file? Or can point me to a solution to that problem?
