Setting Up Flex

I'm getting started with Flex and I want to know how can you
publish your project in the web. Instead of using Index.html you
need to use .mxml (main) or you have to add it as a component in
the HTML file.
Thanks

You can't just put mxml files on the web unless you are using
LifeCycle Data Services (formerly Flex DS), which allows you
compile when the app is requested. So if you aren't using LSDS, you
need to compile the MXML to a SWF and either wrap it in an HTML
file, or access the SWF directly (not the preferable way).

    Hello bluechalk,
    I'd recommend restarting your iPhone. If you're still unable to proceed, I would recommend resetting the device.

  • Need help setting up Flex on server (sdk?)

    This should be a simple noob question:
    I have Flex Builder on my local machine. I've created an
    application (project.mxml) that uses VideoDisplay to play some
    videos chosen from a List using an XML file as the data source. The
    app works great testing on my local machine.
    I now wish to take my project and put it on my Windows 2k3
    server.
    I copied over my project directory to the server at
    D:\Flex\ProjectName, and I set a website in IIS using home
    directory D:\Flex.
    At this point, I go to my local machine and punch in the URL,
    http://10.xxx.xxx.xxx:8700/ProjectName/bin/project.html,
    which brings up my application UI. I can see the app, it looks
    identical to my local machine. However, when I go to select my
    video from the List, nothing plays. I've included a function that
    checks for connection and it doesn't report back with an alert.
    As for the server, it has the newest version of Flash player
    (not sure if this is even needed on server side?) and it also has
    the Flex Data Services 2 installed (yes, I'm using Flex 2). I don't
    even think I need the FDS2 installed at the moment since I'm not
    really connecting to any data sources other than this xml file, but
    I installed it as a precaution since i have it installed on my
    local machine. This is as far as the server is setup for Flex. I've
    looked at documentation and its not clear to me as to what needs to
    be on the server to get Flex apps to work. Do I need to install
    Flex Builder on the server? Or the SDK? And what files am I
    supposed to give the server from my local machine? I've spent a
    great deal of time on this to see it fail on the server, so any
    help is appreciated.

    I've added FLV to the MIME extensions list and restarted
    WWWPS
    Still no video connection. Sigh, this is weird. I am able to
    directory browse and I can see the videos.
    Something strange happens though. If I directory browse to
    /vids/, I can see all my FLV's. However when I click on one, it
    gives me a "Server Error" - Either the Macromedia application
    server is unreachable or it does not have a mapping to process this
    request.
    I changed my script a bit to point to another XML file
    located on the web,
    http://ws.jamesward.org/youtube.xml
    and modified my dataProvider and the source spots to fit his
    structure and it displayed his youtube videos.
    I'm going to try using full URL addressings for each video
    url on my XML file, though I think I did this already without
    progression.
    Let me know about that error I reported.
    EDIT: Using the full URL didn't work. It's still giving me a
    connection failed alert.
    EDIT2: I made a new mxml file with just a
    <mx:VideoDisplay> control only. I set the source to the full
    URL path of a single video on my server and tested the app locally.
    It would not display the video. I then set the source to the
    relative path of the same video on my local machine and the video
    played. So it's definitely something with my server handling these
    FLV's.
    EDIT3: Just to note, my server also has ColdFusion 7.0.2
    running on it. I don't know if that explains the error
    above?

  • How to include different Character Sets in Flex AIR project

    Hi All,
    Flex, AIR(Desktop) Project.
    PROBLEM Scenario:
    My Application needs a path from Windows registry, So I am launching a .cmd file using Native Process API.
    As a result I get a text file with the path.
    So, everything works fine(reading/writing), but if the path contains different languages like Korean, Chinese then the READING OPERATION IS FAILED only when I install the application. It works fine while debugging.
    (By failing I mean its not getting the characters, its printing some junk values.)
    I am using readMultibyte & writeMultibyte APIs, and I am assiging the character set dynamically as per the OS language. (Which is Enslish in current scenario)
    FINDING:
    I installed Windows with Korean Language on a system, so now if I build the .exe on this machine then it works fine. So, i guess its not able to get the Korean Character set from the English OS, thats why it failed in earlier case.
    Is there any way to include different character sets in a Flex project?
    Regards,
    Mayank

    Some loaded SWFs may not be compatible with Flex.  Try making a simpler SWF (like one that just draws a circle where you click) and see if it can be loaded and interacted with.

  • Urgent Help Please - Setting up Flex 14

    Hi,
    I am looking for some urgent help. I bought a friend a new Lenovo Flex 14d but having issues straightaway. Turned it on, got to a screen asking for name of pc, then to a page about wlan connection. He does not have a wlan connection but cannot move on from this screen. What can we do to get the pc set up?
    Thanks !

    Colette,
    This sounds like you are going through the standard Windows setup for a new system.
    Does your friend have any internet connection at all?  Ethernet perhaps?

  • Problems with setting up flex server

    Hi
    I am trying to create a data centric app with php but Flash Builder wont accept the web root folder and says it does not exist.
    My setup is:
    Web Root: /htdocs
    Root URL: http://www.mysite.com
    Any ideas?
    Also where can I find the patches/updates for Flash builder.. a site search gave zero results.
    thanks
    Micheal

    For flash builder to work correctly with your server, it will need file system access to the webroot. If this webroot is on a remote server, then the remote folder needs to be mounted on the local file system (Connect to server functionality in Finder) and then the local mount point needs to be specified as the web root. The URL will however be that of the remote server.
    Please log an enhancement request for us to track this issue to see how we can improve the developer workflow in FB for use cases where the user has only FTP access to the web root.

  • Locale setting for spanish not working in flex plugin

    I am using the following flex compiler setting in Flex builder 3 and it works fine to support Spanish Locale.
    -locale=en_US,es_US
    But the same setting is not working in eclipse installed with flex4 plugin running on flex 3.5 SDK. I am unable to build project with this setting. If i remove es)US then it works fine.
    Here is my whole compiler setting
    -locale=en_US,es_US -allow-source-path-overlap=true -source-path=locale/{locale}

    you might have to restart eclipse but you shouldn't have too.
    I'd check that Eclipse is actually looking at the sdk you think it is (Eclispe might be pointing to a different sdk than FlashBuilder 3)
    otherwise I am out of ideas
    do you have the error message?

  • Is there a way of working collaboratively on a flex project with a small project group?

    Is there a way of working collaboratively on a flex project with a small project group?
    I am part of a small group of developers who wish to work on a single flex project together. Is there a way to set up flex so that the project can be developed by multiple people at the same time. I have seen one thread out on the internet about working locally and then uploading to SVn but this is not an option in this case.
    Any ideas.
    Many thanks in advance
    Dave

    I would say that rushing into development without a source-control system will cost you more in the long-run. If your organisation is serious about developing software it then it needs to invest in the necesary infrastructure, so you should get that process kicked-off as soon as possible.
    In the interim you could set-up a source control server on one developer's machine or commandeer a spare machine to use as a temporary source control server. Just make sure you have it backed-up regularly. Or you could use one of the online source control services; many will support private repositories for a small fee.

  • How to set filter for few Setup Objects on Geneneral Foundation?

    Controlling the download of sub-entities:
    By default all sub-entities are downloaded. Pass a non-existing value
    for the parameter (primary key) of the sub-entity if you don't want to
    download a specific sub-entity.
    For example, if you don't want to download the values of a value set,
    then use following input to FLEX_VALUE attribute while setting filter;
    FLEX_VALUE='THIS_IS_A_NON_EXISTING_VALUE_I_DONT_WANT_TO_DOWNLOAD_VALUES'
    VALUE_SET
    Notes:
    - To download '$FLEX$.%' value sets pass '$FLEX$.%' argument.
    - Upload API automatically submits the hierarchy compiler request
    - FLEX_VALUE_SET_NAME is a required argument for download.
    You can find the following parameters in Set Filter screen of Value Set Values.
    VALUE_SET has subenities such as VSET_SECURITY_RULE, VSET_ROLLUP_GROUP and VSET_VALUE.
    Setting value for attribute FLEX_VALUE_SET_NAME downloads all the subentities. If you want
    to restrict the subentities, set appropriate filter at VSET_SECURITY_RULE, VSET_ROLLUP_GROUP
    and VSET_VALUE.
    Parameters:
    VALUE_SET
    | FLEX_VALUE_SET_NAME : Value set name.
    |
    +-VSET_SECURITY_RULE
    | FLEX_VALUE_RULE_NAME : Value set security rule name.
    | PARENT_FLEX_VALUE_LOW : Independent value for the dependent value sets.
    |
    +-VSET_ROLLUP_GROUP
    | HIERARCHY_CODE : Hierarchy (rollup group) code.
    |
    +-VSET_VALUE
    PARENT_FLEX_VALUE_LOW : Independent value for the dependent value sets.
    FLEX_VALUE : Flexfield segment value.
    DESC_FLEX
    Notes:
    - Upload API automatically submits the flexfield compiler request
    - Upload API automatically submits the DFV view generator request
    - APPLICATION_SHORT_NAME is a required argument for download.
    You can find the following parameters in Set Filter screen of Descriptive Flexfields.
    DESC_FLEX has subenities such as DFF_REF_FIELD, DFF_CONTEXT and DFF_SEGMENT.
    Setting value for attributes DESC_FLEX and DESCRIPTIVE_FLEXFIELD_NAME downloads all the subentities.
    If you want to restrict the subentities, set appropriate filter at DFF_REF_FIELD, DFF_CONTEXT
    and DFF_SEGMENT.
    Parameters:
    DESC_FLEX
    | APPLICATION_SHORT_NAME : Application Short Name.
    | DESCRIPTIVE_FLEXFIELD_NAME : Descriptive Flexfield Name.
    |
    +-DFF_REF_FIELD
    | DEFAULT_CONTEXT_FIELD_NAME : BLOCK.FIELD reference field name.
    |
    +-DFF_CONTEXT
    | DESCRIPTIVE_FLEX_CONTEXT_CODE : Context Code
    |
    +-DFF_SEGMENT
    END_USER_COLUMN_NAME : Segment Name
    APPLICATION_COLUMN_NAME : Column Name
    KEY_FLEX
    Notes:
    - Upload API automatically submits the flexfield compiler request
    - Upload API automatically submits the KFV view generator request
    - Upload API automatically submits the structure view generator request
    - APPLICATION_SHORT_NAME is a required argument for download.
    You can find the following parameters in Set Filter screen of Key Flexfields.
    KEY_FLEX has subenities such as DFF_REF_FIELD, DFF_CONTEXT and DFF_SEGMENT.
    Setting value for attributes APPLICATION_SHORT_NAME and ID_FLEX_CODE downloads all the subentities.
    If you want to restrict the subentities, set appropriate filter at KFF_FLEX_QUAL, KFF_SEGMENT_QUAL,
    ,KFF_STRUCTURE,KFF_WF_PROCESS,KFF_SH_ALIAS,KFF_CVR_RULE and KFF_SEGMENT.
    Parameters:
    KEY_FLEX
    | APPLICATION_SHORT_NAME : Application Short Name.
    | ID_FLEX_CODE : Key Flexfield Code.
    |
    +-KFF_FLEX_QUAL
    | | SEGMENT_ATTRIBUTE_TYPE : Flexfield Qualifier Name
    | |
    | +-KFF_SEGMENT_QUAL
    | VALUE_ATTRIBUTE_TYPE : Segment Qualifier Name
    |
    +-KFF_STRUCTURE
    | ID_FLEX_STRUCTURE_CODE : Structure Code
    |
    +-KFF_WF_PROCESS
    | WF_ITEM_TYPE : Workflow Item Type
    |
    +-KFF_SH_ALIAS
    | ALIAS_NAME : Shorthand Alias Name
    |
    +-KFF_CVR_RULE
    | FLEX_VALIDATION_RULE_NAME : Cross Val. Rule Name.
    |
    +-KFF_SEGMENT
    SEGMENT_NAME : Segment Name
    APPLICATION_COLUMN_NAME : Column Name
    MENU
    You can find the following parameters in Set Filter screen of Menus.
    PARENT_MENU_NAME Name of the menu to start downloading at. If this
    parameter is specified on its own, that menu and
    all its children will be downloaded. If specified
    with FUNCTION_NAME and/or SUB_MENU_NAME, then only
    the menu entry with that function and/or submenu name
    immediately under the PARENT_MENU_NAME will be
    downloaded.
    FUNCTION_NAME Function name to limit download to. If this parameter
    is specified then PARENT_MENU_NAME must also be
    specified in order to download menus. Specifies
    the function on a menu entry immediately under
    PARENT_MENU_NAME which will be downloaded; all other
    menu entries under PARENT_MENU_NAME will not be
    downloaded.
    SUB_MENU_NAME Sub Menu name to limit download to. If this parameter
    is specified then PARENT_MENU_NAME must also be
    specified in order to download menus. Specifies
    the Sub Menu on a menu entry immediately under
    PARENT_MENU_NAME which will be downloaded (along with
    all its children); all other menu entries under
    PARENT_MENU_NAME will not be downloaded.
    MENU_APP_SHORT_NAME Application short name of Menu. The menu on the resp
    for this application will be downloaded. If you
    pass this parameter, do not pass any of the other
    parameters; this parameter is only supported on its
    own.

    Oh never mind.... I figured it out myself helps to read up on the manuals. d'oh. sorry for the bandwidth waste...

    Somewhere in your pom.xml where you are configuring your build dependancies there will be a line <scope>caching</scope> this line is configuring the build to use a flex runtime shared library. This line is generating the error because caching is not a valid dependancy scope in maven 3 however mojos uses it anyway. There was a defect opened against flexmojos; I've linked it below. Froeder's response to the issue was that it was not fixable, that the warning is expected and that we'll have to live with it for now.

  • Wrapping: Flex vs. InDesign

    Hi
    Here's a screenshot showing the same text in a PDF from InDesign, and in Flex/TLF/Flash:
    (Sys info below.)
    The fourth line wraps differently in Flex. It would be great if someone
    (perhaps from the TLF team) could help me with finding out why.
    For the project I'm working on, it's crucial that the text wraps
    the same way it does in InDesign. What options do you see to
    ensure that?
    Ideally, all of the text would wrap the same right after TextConverter.importToFlow.
    (But the Flex app could make some adjustments if necessary.)
    Here's a screenshot showing the "s: d" from the first line:
    In the InDesign PDF the colon is a lot closer to the "s" than in Flex, it seems.
    Do you have any idea where the different distances between the
    characters could come from?
    It seems to me as if the TLF has a different way of calculating
    the exact distances/positions (different from the implementation
    in InDesign.) Is that true?
    One aspect that I noticed: The font in the PDF seems bolder.

    Hi everyone,
    Here's an update. The situation has improved, but the problem hasn't been solved yet.
    (Info:
    The TLF text didn't get rendered using the embedded font. In Flash
    Builder Beta 2, the following fixed the issue:
    [Right-clicked on the project] -> Properties -> Flex Build Path ->
      Library Path -> Framework linkage -> Merged into code)
    Wrapping compared to the InDesign PDF:
    System font:
      (Info:
        http://forums.adobe.com/thread/449201
        "Device fonts not only reside on the local system, they are
        rendered by the OS and not by the player. The player does not
        currently have the capability to render them internally." So it
        seems with sys fonts, anti-aliasing opts can't be set in Flex?)
      Wrapping: Line 4 wraps differently.
    Embedded font:
      advancedAntiAliasing: true
        Wrapping: Line 19 wraps differently. All lines before that wrap
        correctly - this situation is much better. Thanks Daniel!
      advancedAntiAliasing: false
        Wrapping: Not different from above (advancedAntiAliasing true).
    This is one version of the CSS rule:
    @font-face {
        src:url('assets/MyriadPro-Regular.otf');
        fontFamily: MyriadProEmbeddedCFF;
        embedAsCFF: true;
        advancedAntiAliasing: true;
    Does anyone have an idea what else I could try to get the wrapping
    in sync? Perhaps some other @font-face properties? Or some other
    properties/settings/etc?
    If nothing works, the finished Flex app will try fix the wrapping.
    But ideally the wrapping would be the same as in the InDesign PDF
    right away.

  • How to get/set value in illustrator preference file using ActionScript 3.0

    Hi all,
    I want to get/set the flex panel components preference in illustrator preference file using ActionScript 3.0.
    I tried to achieve this  like --
    import com.adobe.illustrator.Preferences;
    var pref : Prefereneces = new Preferences();
    //To set value I used  this...
    pref.setStringPreference("url", id1.text);
    //To get value I used this..
    id1.text = pref.getStringPreference("url");
    i think there is prb in creating  Preference variable but I am unable to resolve.
    plz help.
    Thanks.

    I am having trouble with setStringPreference. It seems to be setting the value to 0 in the Prefs file. When I first wrote the code, it was working, but something is keeping it from saving the right value now. Did you get yours working? Any ideas?

  • How does one define a default style for a custom Flex component?

    How does one define a default style for a custom Flex component?
    hello
    I created a new set of Flex component library slib.swc (Flex 4.5). Would also like to have a default style. defaults.css file, making it the default style of the component library.
    Like flex the builder install directory of sdks \ 4.5.0 \ frameworks out \ libs directory has a spark.swc file, open with Winrar will see defaults.css this file. Defaults.css file defines the default style of the flex spark components.
    How can it be achieved?
    As follows
    slib.swc contains a CLabelEx components, and a defaults.css file
    defaults.css source file as follows:
    @ namespace s "library :/ / ns.adobe.com / flex / spark";
    @ namespace mx "library :/ / ns.adobe.com / flex / mx";
    @ namespace cn "http://os.slib.cn";
    cn | CLabelEx
            styBackgroundAlpha: 1;
            styBackgroundColor: # 569CC0;
            styBorderAlpha: 1;
            styBorderColor: # 569CC0;
            styBorderWeight: 1;
            styCornerRadius: 3;
    In slib.swc the application MyLabel.mxml of the source file as follows:
    <? xml version = "1.0" encoding = "utf-8"?>
    <s: Application, the xmlns: fx = "http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009
                               xmlns: s = "library :/ / ns.adobe.com / flex / spark"
                               xmlns: mx = "library :/ / ns.adobe.com / flex / mx"
                               xmlns: cn = "http://os.slib.cn
                               the minWidth = "955" The minHeight = "600">
            <fxeclarations>
            </ fxeclarations>
            <cn:CLabelEx x="67" y="112"/>
    </ s: Application>
    I hope CLabelEx default use cn | CLabelEx, style to display its appearance.
    I refer to above approach, but failed to achieve. Can you please re-Detailed
    Thanks!

    dj is right. Any Folder can be a picture folder.
    Create a root level folder and add it to your Pictures Library in Windows.  It will show up with all the scattered pictures from other programs. It can even be a different dirve if you like.  You  can even specify one to be the default save location for pictures in this dialog.
    Navigate to Pictures in your Libraries in Windows Explorer Right Click and select Properties.
