Setting up folders in email

The manual say, tap on mailboxes, then edit. I do not get the edit option. What am I doing wrong?

If it's an IMAP type account then you should get an Edit button at the top of the list of folders that you currently have on your email account. If it's a POP type account then you won't get the Edit button, and you are limited to the folders that you already have.

I am trying to determine how I can save emails into folders in my email account.  No ability to create a folder to move an email over into.  How can I do this?

If you are using iPad Mail app, in the left hand column tap the arrow in the top left corner until you return to where your main email address appears. This is the main account screen.
Then tap the email address/account once.
In the left column in the upper right, tap the Edit button.
At the bottom of the left column/panel there is a New Mailbox button.
Tap the button. At the top of the left column, a keyboard entry field appears.
Thiis is where you tap and enter the name of your new Mailbox folder.
Once done naming, click the done button at the top right of the left column and you are done.
This is how you add additonal mailbox folders to your email account.
Once the mailbox folders you need are created, you can return to any email entry, Tap the Edit button in the upper right of the left column, again. A button appears next to all the emails in the left column.
Tap the buttons for the ones you wish to move to a particular mailbox folder, at the bottom of the left column, choose the Move button, then pick the mailbox folder to move the emails to and they will automatically move to that mailbox folder.

  • Setting up folders in mail for iphone 4 & a grumble or two

So i have this new iphone 4 and I am having difficulties setting up folders inside my inbox.  For example I would like to set up folders for Junk Mail and Read It Later but I don't want to set up another email account to do so.
Almost all of my settings on my iphone are by accident not design, lol.
And even though I have rung the apple service centre on numerous occassions:
my iphone has turned itself off because it overheated and I was told by apple technical support to turn the phone off at night!!!
    and it wants recharging after five hours of continuous use;
so - I am having serious issues with Apple actually calling the iphone4 a "mobile".
    End of grumble.
If anyone can help me with the folder setup in mail, I would appreciate it.

The ability to create folders in the mail app is dependent on the type of email account that you have. It is not quite like Outlook where you can set up local folders no matter what type of account you have. The iPhone email client does not support the creation of folders if you are using a POP account. Only if you are using Exchange or IMAP, as those are created on the server side. The overheating issue sounds as if something is stuck running since it is running the battery down that fast. However, it makes me want to question what you mean by 5 hours of continuous use. Do you mean using for 5 hours straight, or it being in standby for a period of time as well?

I can't delete my bt emails or move them to folders, other emails from tiscali no problem with, anyone help please

I did that and it is currently whirring away, had over 16000 emails as everything got imported when I set emails up (only had this computer 5 days). So will see what happens when it stops doing whatever it is doing. Sorry if I appear stupid but first Mac I have owned so everything a bit new. Have managed to get most things working correctly just can't sort this BT email problem out. Will report back later!

  • Accidentally have 2 inbox / sets of folders

I somehow have created 2 sets of folders in Outlook 2010.  One seems to be the current default and has a set of folders under the heading 'outlook' ( has inbox, drafts, sent items etc.).  The other is under a heading 'Mailbox - my name' as also
has the same named folders.  My Contacts and Calendar are all in the 'Mailbox - my name' folder.  My emails seem to now be in the top folder (Outlook).  The 'my name' inbox seems to have stopped getting new emails a week ago and I could empty
it.  My android phone has 'TouchDown' and now shows my calendar but not my emails, and my reminders and task show up on the phone but not on my desktop!  I have been trying to reduce the size of folders and then upgraded from Outlook 2007 to Outook
2010 and used the comcast 'autodiscover' feature on the desktop (Comcast business account links to an exchange server from them).  So -- I am guessing I should empty the 'my name' mailbox but wonder if I should then try to move the calendar and contacts
to the 'Outlook' folder or vice-versa.  Argh -- I hate it when I screw up like this and any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks - Scott

The only way to do so is with an IMAP account via server stored mailboxes which must be created with an email client used on your computer or via webmail access for the account using a browser. Once an additional server stored mailbox is created and available on the server, it will also be available on the iPhone automatically.
This is not available with a POP account.

  • Folders in email Account?

How do I set up folders to move inbox mail to for storage?

You can't do it on the iPad. You have to do it on the server in your web mail. I think that you can only create folders in an IMAP email account - and I stress "I think". I do know however, that the folders cannot be created in the Mail app directly on the iPad.

  • Need help setting up a new email account for my wife.

I've been trying to set up a separate email account for my wife with no success. I've gone to Preferences clicked the plus sign, it then asks for full name (my wifes'?) email address (would that be the one I pick for her or my email address?) and password- I'm assuming that's the password I use to get my email. It tells me it's checking connection to mail server and then says login to "POP failed".
    Thanks for the help.
    Richard

New email accounts should be created and set up first with your email service provider--contact them for information about how to do that. Just making up a new address and typing it into Mail's preferences doesn't create a new email account.
Edited to add: In addition, you probably want to establish a new user account for your wife on your Mac, so that you and she have separate folders and inboxes for your mail, once she has her own account set up. Separate user accounts also mean the two of you can have separate bookmarks on your browsers, separate document folders, and so on--almost as if you each had your own computer.

  • Setting up folders for mail accounts.

Hello all. I am 3 day old mac owner (got a MacBook) and I need some help with Mail.app.
I have two pop accounts set up and all is well but I can't for the life of me figure out how to set up folders in each account for certain types of mail to be placed in. For instance I would like my wife's emails to automagically be placed in it's own folder for said account so I don't have to see or worry about them. Is this possible? I'd like to have folders for bills, family, friends, etc and any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

you would do this through creating folders, and then creating rules. however you have to have distinct attributes for the rules to pic up on.
if i understand correctly you have your pop account and your wifes. if you notice on inbox, there is an arrow next to it, you can drop it down and see each individual account so you dont view them all together.
i would also suggest that maybe you create an entirely different user for your wife, then neither of you would ever have to deal with sorting between each others emails.
to add a folder, there is a plus sign at the lower left hand corner of mail, click it and the location you want to create should be "on my mac," then to set up a rule you go to preferences and then rules, the rules should make sense, but if not just ask.
i realise this may not exactly solve all the issues, but will probably get you at least closer, and then just ask anything else.

  • Mail folders rejecting emails and emails not showing in Inbox

OK my first problem, just in the passed day or two I started having issues with emails not staying deleted or in folders. Emails reappear, after a short time, in the inbox. I'm not sure how to rememdy this.
Also, still having a problem with emails not staying in the Inbox on Intel Mac Desktop, but showing fine in iPhone mail. What happens here is a new email will drop into Inbox, you can look at it for a few seconds, then it disappears with several others received within hours.
Any help on either issue will be greatly appreciated, this is work email so it's kind of a pain. Thanks!

Eustace, sadly this did not work. It's a full week and I had to keep using Thunderbird to check that I'm not missing any mail. I don't get it, some comes in, some gets left out.
Today I tired Eric Root's reindexing solution and that did not do anything either.
I saw mail bringing in 188 messages and NOTHING new showed up. It did in T-bird because it was all the past week's mail
Thunderbird *****. It doesn't even pay attention to rules I set up in it. I want my Apple mail back!
Can I try to reinstall the mail app from my disks without having to delete the mail app entirely? Will the new files overwrite the old ones and 'freshen' it up (so to speak) and fix this communicaiton issue?
