Setting up hotmail on iPhone????????????

I cannot set up my hotmail account on my iPhone. I go to settings, add account, other, then fill in the blanks. What's the deal with IMAP, POP and Exchange? Can someone walk me through this????
Thanks!!!!
-Chris

Hello I have a tip for accessing hotmail on the iphone. The easy way is go to
the mobile msn.com page and click the hotmail link. I found that since the latest firmware update 1.1.2 that the iphone won't display the regular msn.com or hotmail pages. I've reset and restored my phone a few times to see if it could be fixed, and each time it worked, but in a short time it's like they were blocked from coming up. Since every other page on the net comes up just fine I can only conclude that Apple is somehow configuring the iphone not to display those pages. With the older firmware they displayed just fine each and every time. It makes me mad that Apple is playing this game with us.

  • Outlook says "cannot verify user account" for setting up hotmail on Iphone 4, what to do?

Had hotmail working fine for months, had to change password, could not connect and get verified. Tried deleting and restarting, not working, need help.

    Quoted from Microsoft:
Setup Hotmail through the Mail option on your Home screen
If this is the first e-mail account you'll be setting up on your phone:
    * 1. Locate the mail icon on your phone's main screen
    * 2. On the Add Account page, select Other and enter your Windows Live ID and password
If you have already set up an e-mail account on your phone:
    * 1. Locate the Setting icon on your phone's main screen
    * 2. Locate the Mail, Contacts, Calendars option
    * 3. Under Accounts, choose Add Account and select Other
    * 4. Enter your Windows Live ID and password

  • How can I set up hotmail on my iphone? i need some advice please..

i can't set up hotmail on my iphone.. please can someone tell me how to do that. thankyou..

Is it a paid account or a free account?
The free accounts can not be set up on the iPhone because the free Hotmail accounts do not user one of the two email server standards, POP3 or IMAP (it uses a proprietary HTTP protocol) which the iPhone requires.
You will need to upgrade to one of the paid hotmail accounts before you can get POP3 access for your email.

  • Having problems setting up hotmail on my iphone 4

i upgraded to the iphone 4 on 02 2 months or so ago. Since then i have not been able to set up hotmail on it. It accepts my yahoo mail no problem at all. But hotmail is my main account. After i have put in the details it asks for which is name, address, password and description ( that automatically turns to hotmail)i click the next button. It then says verifying . A box then appears which says "cannot get mail" the username or password for "pop3.live.com is incorrect. now i have tried it so many times so i know that my email address and password are fine! im stuck now and not a clue how to fix this.

  • How to use FREE hotmail on iPhone

As most people know, Hotmail and iPhone do not play well together. The truth is that Microsoft does not allow email applications (i.e. Mail on Mac, Mail on iPhone, Mozilla Thunderbird) to access the POP servers unless you get Hotmail Plus service for $20 a year.
If you got that, great, if not, read on.
Izymail @ http://v3.izymail.com/ provides a free workaround to get Hotmail onto your iPhone just like Yahoo!, AOL, or Gmail works.
Visit the site and click the big blue word that says "iPhone". It gives you ALL the instructions with step by step pictures on how to set it up.
Again, if you missed it. It is free! They do not ask for credit card information. There are more features you can add with a paid membership, but you honestly do not need those. If you find yourself in an area where they are asking for payment, you've gone to deep.
I've used it for months with no issues. Works great.
I do want to make people aware that you are providing them with your password. It is required for the service to work. If you have confidential information that could lead to identity theft, it is recommended that you do not use this service. After months of service, I have never noticed anything suspicious when it comes to my hotmail account. If you do, simply change your hotmail password and all is well.
Also, if you do not wish to hurt Microsoft's feelings, do not use this service. They will be losing out on $20 a year, what a shame. Honestly though, if you feel this service steps over your "moral boundaries", then skip out and I'm sorry for suggesting it.

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

What do you mean it does on your iPhone?
If you download a new email to your computer and read that mail and then download it to the iPhone it sees it as already read? Then maybe the iPhone is using the Hotmail IMAP system? Not sure.

  • Setting up hotmail account on ipad 2

i need to set up hotmail account on ipad how do i do that?

You actually now have the option to set up Hotmail as an Exchange account (a HUGE plus).  Here are directions:
Microsoft recently announced that it it now allowing users to connect their iPhones, iPads and iPod touches to its free webmail service – Windows Live Hotmail – via Exchange ActiveSync. Before, the only option for Hotmail users wanting to access their email on the go was to set up their accounts via POP3 or login via a web browser. Because the POP3 protocol does not reflect changes to email statuses (whether read, deleted, etc) with the server version, so your emails end up out of sync. Exchange ActiveSync, on the other hand, reflects your changes across all devices. Plus, it means all your new Hotmail messages can be pushed directly to your iPhone or iPad.
Even better, setting it up on your iPhone or iPad is relatively simple (and thankfully, the same process on either device):
Open Settings and select ‘Mail, Contacts, Calendars’.
Select ‘Add account’, and choose ‘Microsoft Exchange’.
For ‘Email’, enter your Hotmail email address ([email protected], for example).
Leave the ‘Domain’ field blank, but enter your Username (probably [email protected]) and Password (hopefully not yourname1234).
Give the account a description (this will appear in the Email app to identify the account). Select Next.
After that has verified, a new field – ‘Server’ – will appear. Enter m.hotmail.com in this field. Select Next again.
Choose which services you want to sync (Mail, Contacts and Calendars), and you’re done.
You can also set up how many days worth of mail you want to sync across and which folders should push emails to you.
To set up whether you want your email pushed to your phone (it’s an all-or-none decision if you have multiple Push-enabled accounts), go back to ‘Mail, Contacts, Calendars’, and select ‘Fetch New Data’. Here you can toggle Push on/off or choose to fetch data every 15 minutes, 30 minutes, hourly or manually (the latter will go easiest on your battery).

in the iPhoto preferences ==> accounts delete your e-mail account and reenter it
    OR
IMHO the better solution is to set Apple mail as the email client in the iPhoto preferences

  • Hotmail to iPhone 3G

    Hi,
I've checked this topic in these discussions but could not find anything conclusive about being able to access my Hotmail via the iPhone 3G. I did see the following instructions, which I followed and set up on my iPhone -- but the phone says "the username or password" is incorrect. Both are correct, though. I did set up GMail successfully, by the way. Thanks!
    DETAILS:
    Account: On
    Account Information:
Name: John Smith (note: enter your own name)
Address: [email protected] (note: enter your full Hotmail email address)
    Description: Hotmail
    Incoming Mail Server:
    Host Name: pop3.live.com
User Name: [email protected] (note: enter your full Hotmail email address)
Password: password (note: enter your Hotmail password)
    Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):
    Host Name: smtp.live.com
User Name: [email protected] (note: enter your full Hotmail email address)
Password: password (note: enter your Hotmail password)
    Advanced Settings:
    Incoming Uses SSL: On
    Outgoing Uses SSL: On
    Authentication: Password
Delete from Server: When removed from Inbox (or your preferred option)

Just checking. As I use a Hotmail Plus account as well on an iPhone 3G.
Here is my current setup as a saved account. Wondering if you notice any discrepancies with yours.
-Go to Settings - Mail - Hotmail account
    Account - ON
    POP ACCOUNT INFORMATION
    Name: First and Last
    Address: Hotmail Email address
    Description: whatever you want
    INCOMING MAIL SERVER
    Host Name: pop3.live.com
    username: your hotmail email address
password: hotmail password (might want to retype that and check as you type)
    OUTGOING MAIL SERVER
SMTP - smtp.live.com - tap on this button
Primary Server - ON - Tap on this button
    Server ON
    Hostname: smtp.live.com
    Username: hotmail email
password: hotmail password (retype if needed)
    SSL: ON
    Authentication: Password
    Server Port: 587
Back out and of that page one time, then again, Now tap on Advanced
    SSL: ON
    Authentication: password
    Delete from server: never
    Port: 995
This is what I had and it works. If needed you can delete and re-add the account. Also if needed once you delete account - reset network settings before you re-add it.
Post back if needed. I know it works as long as you got the plus account.

No, but you do not need iTunes to setup a new iPhone 5s. Create an iCloud backup for anything you want to transfer to the new iPhone.

  • Whenever I try to sync my 3gs to my laptop itunes only gives me two options: set up as new iphone or restore to a backup.  I already mistakenly restored the phone to a previous back up and the options are still the same.  I am using itunes 10.4.1.10.

Back in March my PC crashed while updating my Iphone 3Gs.  Both froze and were rendered unusable.  The Iphone had to be restored to factory settings in order to be used.  The PC required more work and was delayed by warranty issues.  In the meantime I bought a laptop and installed the newest version of Itunes.  Itunes recognizes my phone but only comes up as "Set up your Iphone"  with two subsequent options: set up as new iphone or restore from back up.  I have mistakenly chosen the option to restore it back to July 2, 2011 when I last synced.  No big deal, but it will not let me go beyond that screen and I cannot transfer my recovered apps or anything else.  Any help on how to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks
