Setting up Hp deskjet 2540 to iPhone

I am trying to set up my Deskjet 2540 to my iPhone so that I can print documents I have on my phone. I know my printer is not available for eprint, however it is useable for airprint with iPhone. I am trying to set it up, so i went to my Wi-Fi connection on my phone and I found my printer, but it is asking for the password. How do I find the password to my printer? I have never set a password because I have never used this printer before. Please Help! Thanks!

    Hello holl123,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I have done some research on the password issue and I have found a great document that deals with Printing from an Apple or Android Mobile Device with HP Wireless Direct.
The document gives instructions as well on password steps.
Please feel free to write me back if you have any other questions or concerns.

  • HP Deskjet 2540 - connect to pc via USB, can I print from android tablet as well?

    Hi,
I've just bought a HP Deskjet 2540 all in one printer.
I have set it up via USB connection to my windows 7 pc, and it is printing fine.
I also have an android tablet.  Can I also print from this whilst using the printer via USB on my pc.
Any help on if this is possible and what steps I need to do if it is would be appreciated (I have been reaeding the help section on the website but I am just getting more confused).
     Lesley

    Hi @Lesley54R,
You don’t need to have the printer listed with the two different connections unless you’ll be switching back and forth from being connected by USB cable and wireless.  You can delete the one you don't think you'll be using.
To print the web page, please use the browser found within the app. I’ve included the ePrint Mobile App FAQs document for your reference.
In addition I’ve also included the ePrint Product Specifications document. This document has the list of supported email programs, file types and print limitations.
    Hope this helps!

  • Wireless Printing issues with HP Deskjet 2540

    Hello everyone,
I am experiencing an issue with an HP Deskjet 2540 printer - it prints if I have connected it to a USB cable; however, it refuses to print if I try to print wirelessly.
I had initially solved this problem when I went to System Preferences > Printers and Scanners and noticed two Deskjet 2540 series icons in a window titled 'Printers'. I ended up removing one of these icons and set the other one as a default, which seemed to temporarily solve my problem. Now, I see two icons back in this 'Printers' menu and my printer refuses to print through my wireless connection.
My printer is connected to my internet connection so I don't think there is an issue here - I also have recently installed the software for this printer to make sure there was not some sort of driver issue; however, this does not seem to give me the permanent solution I am looking for.
Any Advice? My operating system is OS X Version 10.9.5

    Hey @love2dance,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!  I understand you're having difficulty printing wirelessly with your HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer.  I would like to assist you with this and may have some steps that will ensure you can print wirelessly from your Mac.
I recommend you start from scratch and re-do your printer install and wireless setup for best results.
Firstly, make doubly sure your printer is connected to your wireless network by doing the following:
Step one: Prepare for installationTo gather your network name (SSID) and password (WEP key or WPA passphrase), you can ask the person who originally set up your network, see the documentation that came with the router, or contact the manufacturer. HP cannot set up or change the network SSID or the password.
Make sure that you have the following requirements before you begin:
Network name: The network name is the SSID (Service Set Identifier).
WEP key or WPA security passphrase
A computer that is connected to the wireless network.
Internet access. HP recommends broadband Internet access such as cable or DSL.
Your wireless-capable HP product. Place it close to the computer during the installation procedure.
A USB cable (used only during installation).
    Administrator privileges or password
Make sure the product, access point, and computer are all on, and that the computer is connecting to the wireless network.
Connect the USB Cable to the rear port of the HP product and to any USB port on the computer.
Exit all applications running on your computer.
    Source
Secondly, prepare your Mac by removing any existing printers added:
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Print & Scan from the View menu.
Click the "-" (Remove printer) button.
Next, click here to download and install your printer's software.  As you work your way through the setup, follow the prompts to convert your usb install to wireless.  With this setup completed successfully your wireless printing capability should be restored.
One way to preserve this wireless connection is to make sure your wireless mode/router is left on continually.  If at anytime your network connection is lost, reconnecting your printer will mean that it's being assigned a new IP address.  The significance here is that your Mac will be looking to connect with the printer at an IP address that is no longer applicable.
Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post.  Best of luck!

  • Printing in black and white from an ipad on a deskjet 2540 without going through a router

My wife purchased a HP Deskjet 2540 all in one so that she can print directly from her ipad. She is going directly to the printer not through our router. It works great except that everything is printed in color? And unable to adjust the size such as fit to page etc.
How do we get it to print directly from the ipad in black and white and is there a way to set the size eg: Fit to page etc.???

You most likely need to download the HP app for your iPad to do the correct print settings to properly print - this might be the case here. If you still download and install the HP app and it doesn't work then there might be a limit to what your iPad can do for prints.

  • HP Deskjet 2540 won't print wireless when HP software is installed

I'm trying to set up my 2540 wirelessly on multiple PC's on my network. I can get it working on every one but my main PC (which is Windows 7 Pro). On the others I just "Add Network Printer" and used the windows drivers and didn't install the HP software, and it works fine. But on my main PC I want the scanner and ink levels and all that to work. As soon as I install the HP software and try to print it does nothing (in MS Office it gives the error "printer not ready") and shows 0 Documents pending in the tray.
It does print test pages from the HP Printer assistant, and the EWS, just not any regular windows programs
Print and scan doctor says it's fine. Turning off firewall is no help. Updated the newest driver from the website.
IP Address of printer is static, and ping works
    Ping statistics for 192.168.22.230:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 7ms, Maximum = 126ms, Average = 52ms
    Printing from mobile (android) works
Also scanning works just fine through the software
Not sure what else to try.
EDIT: now I can't get it to work at all, even after uninstalling the software and trying to Add Network Printer only

  • Wi-fi connection on HP Deskjet 2540 and network at the same time?

    Hello
Please can you tell me how to keep my connection to my wi-fi printer whilst connected to my Virgin Media Broadband? Every time I want to print I have to switch off the Virgin network connection and connect to the HP Deskjet Wi-fi, and then switch it back again to Virgin to browse or send emails.
    Thank you for your help
    AC33

    Hey there @AC33 Welcome back
I understand you are looking to install your printer on your network, so you can use the internet and printer at the same time. By the sounds of it, you may be connecting the printer currently, using the Wireless Direct feature, which will only allow you to connect to the printer or the network at a time. Basically, the printer is acting like a network.
Here is a link for you to check out. It will help you install the printer on your network:

  • Connecting NEW HP Deskjet 2540 to Chromebook

    Hi Everyone,
    Please help.
I am trying to connect a NEW printer - HP deskjet 2540 to my google chromebook, but I cannot work out how to do it..
Do I need to attach the cable to the printer?
How can I set this up..
I have been trying for the last hour but can't figure it out..
Any help would be really appreicated..
    Thanks..

    Hi DanRomeo,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I see that you would like to learn how to setup your Deskjet 2540 printer so you can print from your Chromebook.
As this printer is not ePrint capable you will need to set it up as a Classic printer with Google Cloud Print. I have included the Setting Up and Using Your Non-ePrint Capable Printer with a Chromebook. It will walk you through connecting the printer to Google Cloud Print.
For additional reference I have included Google’s Connect your classic printers with Google Cloud Print document and Google’s Print a page document.
If you run into any issues with the above, please let me know at what step things went awry and the contents of any error messages. Thank you.

  • Brand new HP Deskjet 2540 keeps jamming when trying to print

I've just bought a new HP Deskjet 2540 and have finally managed to get it set up, but when I try to print something from my laptop (or print a test page from the printer), the paper jams.  A page gets taken down by a third or so, but it goes down twisted and doesn't move beyond that. You can hear everything whirring like it's trying to move the paper, and it looks like the ink has printed on the plastic of the printer, because there's no paper in the right place to print on.... I've checked an cannot find any obstructions. Help?!

That is exactly what is happening to mine

  • Printer deskjet 2540. start up. instructions are useless, help please

I've  just bought a new HP deskjet 2540, instructions are worse than useless, where do I get  a wireless test report, and where is the resume button???

    Hi @geordygit ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you want to generate a wireless test report as well as know how to resume printer function.  We can help with that!
First , please follow these documents to address your network configuration: Setting Up the Printer for a Wireless Network for the HP Deskjet 2540 and HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2... & Printing a Network Configuration Page.
Also, here is a view of the printer's front panel with descriptions of the buttons and lights.  I am not able to locate a resume button.  Other models have a feature that allows resume when you open and close the lid.  You can try that to see if it works:
If you are still experiencing trouble after investigating these options, please reply back to this thread and we'll take it from there.

  • Connecting hp deskjet 2540 all in one

How do I connect my go desckjet 2540 all in one to my iPad and iphone?

    Hi @Krissy13
Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you get your Deskjet 2540 onto your network. I use this method for iPads, iPhones and other devices that do not have software.
Restore the network defaults on the printer by pushing the wireless button, going to settings, and then restore defaults. The wireless button should then start flashing, this means it is now in autowireless mode.
Connect your iPad to the network that the printer is broadcasting. It is usually HP-setup-2540 and then part of the MAC address (printers hardware address). The wireless light will still be flashing on the printer at this point, this is normal since this is not an actual adhoc connection.
Open an internet browser and load up the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering the IP address into the address bar. The default IP for autowireless is 192.168.223.1.
Go to the network tab along the top of the EWS.
Click on Wireless Setup Wizard along the left hand side to begin configuring the printer.
Once the printer is on the network, you can put your computer back on your own network and print again.
If for any reason this does not work, please let me know what operating system , and version you have? Mac or Windows?

  • Cant remember password to print from my phone to deskjet 2540

I recently set up the HP Deskjet 2540 to print from my HTC phone. I need to sign into the wi fi connection specifically set up for the printer, rather than my usual connection, if I want to print directly from my phone downloads. Trouble is, my phone is asking for the password to get connected. I have no idea what it is. I printed out a network configuration page, which gave me a PIN but then what do I do? Just putting in the PIN does nothing.
Hope this makes sense to someone!

    Hello lizrev,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I think you are looking for the Wireless Direct password for the Deskjet 2540. You should be able to access this password by printing an information page for Wireless Direct.
To do so, press and hold the Wireless Direct button for three seconds, once released, a page will print with the password.
    Hope this helps,

I doubt that is the deskjet password if you never set one before there shouldn't be one on it now. Sounds like your trying to connect to someone elses printer or router or another router in your home and mistaken it for a printer.
