Setting Up HP Officejet J4550

Hello,
I have downloaded the drivers for my brand new HP Officejet J4550 printer from hp.com. When I go to set up my printer, my computer is unable to find my new printer and I'm instructed to go to the hp.com website to download the appropriate drivers. Of course, I've already performed this step, not once, not twice but three times.
All to no avail.
I would love to be able to use all the functions such as scanning and faxing, that are available on this printer.
Does anybody know how to get around this glitch on my brand new "All-in-One" printer, so that I don't (AGAIN!) get stuck with a machine that can only print and copy?

Hi, and thank you for your reply.
Yes, I have installed the downloaded software and checked for updates. I get stuck at the setup phase. That's when the computer can't seem to find my new printer and I'm then instructed to go onto HP's website and download the necessary drivers - which of course, I've already done.

  • HP Officejet J4550 All-in-one printer Unable to print pages/photos from system request !

I have an HP Officejet J4550 All-in-one printer that I had set p when I bought my new Acer system with Windows 7 installed and had no problem from the beginning to set-up the installation and have it running as My Default printer and has worked fine up until now ; when all of a sudden the system ;when I go to print a page/photo brings up the set-up - shows the printer as Default and then when I run PRINT...there is No page/photo printed out ? I have tried to run the Diagonistic software and shows the printer as Default and No problems and yet still delivers No Print out ? My system has had All up-dates automatically installed up till this point ...So I not being a Techie  ,do not know what or where to look for help to resolve the issue next ? Anyone able to tell me what to look for to do or how to resolve the issue or do I need to just Un-install the printer and Re-set it up again ?? I have tried to look at all places on HP ;but it does not even show my older HP Officejet -J4550 - All-in One Printer ? Just keeps referring to HP Officejet -4550 ?  Loooking for any answers ! Hi jspin3,
I'd like to help.  For now, I would hold off on the uninstall and reinstall.  Can you answer some questions?
Is the printer connected by USB, Ethernet or wireless?
Do you get any error messages?
Does a blank page come out or do no pages come out when you try to print from the computer?
If you put a document face down on the scanner glass, are you able to make a photocopy?
Can you estimate the ink levels, in percent full for each cartridge, by looking at the printer ink gauge?  Click Here
If you print a  Self Test Report,  do all of the colors print?
Also, remember a click on the Kudos star to the left is a quick "Thanks" for a helpful post.

  • How to download repair of "missing WIA" for officejet J4550 All in one printer

    officejet J4550, all in one
    Problem:  message states "missing WIA"
I'm missing my installation disk and would like to download the solution to repair/update/install the WIA.
how to download repair of "missing WIA" for officejet J4550 All in one printer

    HI knewsomga,
WIA is Windows Image Acquisition, it is a proprietary Microsoft driver model and application programming interface (API) for Microsoft Windows Me and later Windows operating systems that enables graphics software to communicate with imaging hardware such as scanners, digital cameras and Digital Video-equipment. - Source
     Please follow the instructions below.
Please hold down the windows flag key and the R to open the Run box.
    Type services.msc and press Enter
    Locate Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
    Right click and open Properties
Stop the service from the General tab and then Start it again
Verify that the Startup type is set to Automatic rather then manual
Also, look for 'Shell Hardware Detection' in the list of services. If it is not enabled/started, make sure to enable/start the service, and make sure the Startup Type set as Automatically from its properties.
Locate the 'Remote Procedure Call (RPC)' in the list of services. If it is not enabled/started, make sure to enable/start the service, and make sure the Startup Type set as Automatically as well.
If the issue persist, the HP Print and Scan Dr might help, otherwise I suggest contacting Microsoft.
Click here to download and run the utility > HP Print and Scan Doctor
    I hope this helps.

You  can get the software from your printer's website:
    Start at
    HP 4500 officejet
Select your exact model, put in your Operating System...
You are looking for the Product Installation Software -- the Full Feature Software for your OS
Download the package, it may be large..
Then install it... Reboot your computer after the installation.
    That may do it!
    Good Luck!

  • Web Services set up problems - Officejet 5740

I have bought an Officejet 5740 - a very nice printer that Im very happy with.  BUT....my main reason for choosing this printer was for the Instant Ink service and the ink costs we would save in our small business.
However, I have tried and failed on so many occassions to set up the web services!
Every time I try and set it up (using the printer itself) I get the message
'The printer could not connect to web services.  The server might be busy or temporarily unavailable.  Try again later.'
Well I have tried again later and Googled the issue but I am not so technically advanced I understand DNS etc (although I did follow someones instructions to change this but it didnt help either).
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
I can offer some ideas that may help.
You might try connecting the printer using EWS (Embedded Web Server) -- this is a much easier interface to use because it allows you to sit at your keyboard rather than stand at the tiny printer panel.
Assuming the printer is on your local wireless or wired network in your office, connecting to EWS is a simple matter of using your favorite browser to talk to the printer's IP address.
The instructions are in your printer's User Guide  on Page 31.
An Example of using EWS is included in the following instruction Guide - scroll toward the bottom:
Install Full Feature Software – Printer
If you have the services of an Internet Service Provider for your Internet at your Office, say from Xfinity or from AT&T, then this is the "ISP"  IP Address that you need for your Printer when it is connected to the Internet.
If you do not have your own Internet Service Provider, then you can use the Free Google DNS service.  Understand that Free is also "free of support", "free of privacy", and "free of guarantees" -- In other words, there are none of those.  Nonetheless, lots and lots of people use the service and manage full, successful Internet lives.

  • Setting up HP Officejet 6500A; not sure how to connect to web w/ home wireless network

I have a small home wireless network.  I set the printer up today but it says that I must connect to the internet (fax part is working).  The only desktop I have, I keep off most the time and just use my laptop (which is for work so I can't set the printer up to this).
Is there a way to connect the printer directly to my router?  They are only a few feet from one another; however, I have no clue how to do it and the instructions manual didn't tell me much.  Do I need a phone line?  What would I use to connect the two?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Use an Ethernet cable, available in any tech store, online or even Target will have them.
Plug it into the back of the printer and router.  You should be able to add the printer to your laptop.  Let me know what operating system you have and I can help.

  • How do I set up my Officejet printer to print bumper stickers?

I'd like to print bumper stickers, and I believe the "panorama" paper size setting is required, but that size is not offered as an option. Anyone have a suggestion?

What model printer do you have? Many printers have some predefined sizes for printing in the driver, but many do not offer customer paper size management.
You may want to try using an alternate driver, such as the HP Deskjet 9800 driver, which offers this customer paper size management. For information on how to use an alternate driver please see Shane_R's thread located here.
Keep in mind the thickness of the bumper sticker paper you are using. What thickness is this paper?

  • Problem setting up HP Officejet 4215xi on network

    Hi All!
I can't seem to get my Powerbook G4 (OS X 10.3.9) to "see" my printer on the network. The network is a PC based network, but I've had no problem connecting to the other computers. I tried to download the drivers from HP, and even used one of the links suggested here to set up my printer on my computer. Nothing has worked. If anyone out there has the same system, and is using their HP 4215 successfully, please let me know what you did!
    Thanks,
    Noreen

Network printing/Windows printing only works with a driver that was meant for network printing. To use the OS X built-in CUPS network choices, you need a CUPS driver. For postscript printers, it's not an issue, because postscript is the native output of OS X, and can easily be routed to the various choices in Printer Setup.
Non-postscript printers are Very Different. Except for Brother, no manufacturer has provided CUPS drivers. Instead, what you get are Carbonized, OS9 legacy drivers, that have the comm protocol written into the driver (mostly USB). They can only print via local connection.
Short version - HP's driver doesn't do network printing.

  • How do you change the wireless setting on an Officejet J6480 from offline to online?

I am using an airport express router with Mac OS Snow Leopard, and I cannot seem to get the wireless function to work with my officejet J6480.  I installed it, setup the IP for the printer, added it to my printers list and printed one document.  Then, I tried an hour later, and it said it was offline.  I connected to the IP and verified everything, and yet it will not print. Can anyone help?

Is the HP software marked as being compatible with Snow Leopard?  If not we will need to remove it in a special way.  Please advise.
In the mean time, let's reserve an IP address for your printer in the Airport:
    1. Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer
    2. Open Airport Utility (Applications > Utilities)
    3. Choose your Airport, then choose Manual Setup.
    4. Choose Internet along the the top, then DHCP the tab.
    5. In the bottom box (DHCP Reservations) choose the plus sign to reserve an IP address.
    6. Type in a Description, like "OfficeJet 6500", then choose MAC Address, then Continue.
    7. Type in your printer's MAC address, the IP you want to give it (current one is fine), then Done.

  • Problems setting up HP Officejet 8610

I just bought an HP Officejet 8610 and when I got to the step to calibration, it won't do it.  I can't find out anything on my computer helpful.  Can someone tell me what to do?

    Thanks.
Turning off the printer, dsiconnecting from power source and reconnecting worked.
The reason I didn't do that in the first place is that the printer advised me that it could be damaged by turning off in the middle of calibration. I realised that it wasn't in the middle of calibration as it said it was at 0% of calibration, so I took the risk and tuned off/on. Thankfully it worked ok.
