Setting up imail with aol and a dsl connection
Here is my dilemma....
I currently use aol as my email account. I have att/yahoo dsl. I am trying to configure my iMail so that i can use my aol account but use my dsl as my outgoing. I have tried all the suggestions on most of this board. I did the aol service assisant which gave me so much hope, but then I go this message, "missing domain in rcpt command" after that I started changing and doing many of the suggestions on the message boards... called att/yahoo they were no help. Any takers????

Under which circumstances do you get that error message? It looks like you’re trying to send to a malformed or non-existent email address...

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Yes, I too had this problem.
I was issued an update from Apple for a new version software as well as a new version of Lightrooom and now it shows up on the desktop and in finder as it should.

Help with WRT54G and CenturyTel DSL
I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm trying to set up a WRT54G with DSL service from Century Telephone.
I'm running Windows XP and have been using this DSL service for several years without a router, so I know I can connect reliably. I've connected my desktop directly to the router (e.g. wired connection) and I've double and triple checked connections and know they are secure and correct.
I ran the setup CD, and it could not find an Internet connection. I went through all the normal steps - powering down everything, restarting. No dice. I downloaded Easty Answer ID 2210 from Linksys about setting up PPPoE DSL connections and followed all instructions - still no luck. I downloaded latest firmware for router, tried again - no luck. When I check router's status page, I see no connection and get error message "Cannot get IP address from PPPoE server".
Then contacted CentryTel tech service to see if they had any suggestions. They helped me set up a bridge connection through the router - but that just demonstrates the Internet conneciton is available and there isn't a wiring problem. Spent about an hour on line with Linksys tech support, but he wasn't able to diagnose the problem and then the connection was dropped on his end.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I used to have Comcast, but moved and switched to DSL. I have never had problems like the ones I have experienced since switching, and have not had luck with either CenturyTel or Linksys customer service.
I have the same issue - so we fiddled with the IP address and were able to get one computer on wireless. However, we have three computers in the house - but the other two can't get on the Internet wirelessly. Can multiple computers use the wireless connection after you've changed the IP address for one? It doesn't seem to work for us, despite multiple calls to help desks (Linksys told us it was a problem with our laptop maker; however, we never had issues with this particular computer going on wireless at the old house.)
Any help for WRT54TG/CenturyTel (or any DSL)/multiple computers is greatly appreciated!

A friend set me up with icloud on my ipod touch and in the process lost part one and two of the book I had purchased from itunes. I searched for it and it is not in my ipod any longer, although part 3 is there. I tried to download it again from itunes store but they said I already purchased it and I didn't want to be charged again. What can I do? I am not happy at all because all I did with my Ipod was listen to my book and now I can't.

If you've bought it from iTunes, you should be able to re-download it for free.
Download directly from iPod by going to the iTunes Store-App and find the "Purchased"-menu. From here you should get a complete list of all your bought items and the ability to re-download.
Download from iTunes on PC/Mac by opening iTunes > Go to iTunes Store > Go to the menubar on the left and choose "Purchased". Now, from the appearing window select the proper categori on top of the screen.

I'm trying to set it up with Bluetooth. I used to be able to "Bluetooth" files to and from my computer with other mobile devices but I have difficulties with the iPhone. It won't connect. Anybody knows what I need to do? Cheers.The iPhone _does not_ support Bluetooth file transfer. You must use the USB cable for syncing, or there are file transfer/storage apps in the App Store (Files, File Magnet, Air Sharing, there are lots) that use Wi-Fi.
On the iPhone, Bluetooth is limited to voice calls, music streaming to stereo headphones, and tethering (using the phone as a cellular modem). Tethering requires carrier support - O2 and Orange support it, Tesco does not. -
Updating Safari to keep pace with AOL and IE?
Hello:
I have noticed that AOL and MS have just made updates--OpenRIde and IE--which do not appear to support Mac users. Also, Firefox is in the process of being updated, but don't know if it fully supports Macs.
In view of these developments, does anyone know if AOL, MS, et al. are planning to continue to support Macs on a current basis with their new developments, AND, is APPLE considering, or in the process of, updating Safari to match or exceed these other upgrades?

Apple's approach to Safari has been to make new features available only in the latest OS, that is not available to older versions. Reasons are probably economic, as well as pragmatic (would require changes to the operating system necessary to accommodate changes to Safari's engine.)

I have set up Iphone4s with my pc and ticked only required songs to sync. I clicked apply and it has been going for over 12 hours on my Iphone just displayimg loading. The capacity on my iphone shows a capacity of 6.3gb used out of 13.6 Am i doing something wrong ?
Thanks for the replies. It took a while not hearing anything so thought I was alone. I have done many of the suggestions already. The key here is that it occurs on both phones with apps, and phones still packaged in a box.
A Genius Bar supervisor also checked his Verizon data usage log and found the same 6 hour incremental use. Suprisingly, he did not express much intrigue over that. Maybe he did, but did not show it.
I think the 6 hour incremental usage is the main issue here. I spoke with Verizon (again) and they confirmed that all they do is log exactly when the phone connected to the tower and used data. The time it records is when the usage started. I also found out that the time recorded is GMT.
What is using data, unsolicited, every 6 hours?

Since no one from Apple seems to be chiming in on this, and I have not received the promised calls from Apple tech support that the Genius Bar staff said I was suppose to receive, it is starting to feel like something is being swept under the rug.
I woke up the other day with another thought ... What application would use such large amounts of data? Well ... music, video, sound and pictures of course. Well ... what would someone set automatically that is of any use to them? hmmm ... video, pictures, sound. Is the iPhone 5 succeptible to snooping? Can an app be buried in the IOS that automatically turns on video and sound recording, and send it somewhere ... every 6 hours? Chilling. I noted that the smallest data usage is during the night when nothing is going on, then it peaks during the day. The Genius Bar tech and I looked at each other when I drew this sine wave graph on the log print outs during an appointment ... -
Need help setting up JDBC with mySQL and Netbeans
I've successfully got mySQL up and running and created a few simple test databases. I've been following the instructions on this website (http://www.stardeveloper.com/articles/display.html?article=2003090401&page=1 ) to get JDBC working but have had little luck.
I've downloaded JDBC from mySQL website, extracted the mysql-connector-java-3.1.13-bin.jar file and changed the class path to :
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\lib\ext\mysql-connector-java-3.1.13-bin
which is where I placed the .jar file.
I then used the following code provided on stardeveloper.com to test a connection with the test database.

In mySQL I created a new user called uraknai with password n0121429 and granted them access to a test database I created called pet.
Then, in netbeans, I clicked the Runtime tab, clicked Databases and rightclicked Drivers and clicked Add Driver. I then added the driver mysql-connector-java-3.1.13-bin.jar. I then right clicked the newly added driver and selected the connect using option. I filled in the appropriate boxes clicked ok and it connected successfully.
Then, under the project tab, I right clicked the project name, clicked properties then clicked Libraries and added the .jar file mysql-connector-java-3.1.13-bin.jar
I then ran the following code to test the connection to the database:

Thanks and Happy new Year !Mapping solves the problem. Groupwise has no corresponding field for "Direct Connect". For ease of data entry, I mapped the Direct Connect field in my 8350i with the pager field in my groupwise address books. The BB desktop manager now syncs the nextel direct connect #'s.
The steps are:
In BB desk top manager, select Sync Configuration; address book; advanced; Field Mapping (at bottom of list). Map an unused field in the GW address book with the direct connect field in the 8350i.
I assumethis would also work with outlook and others. -

Setting up network with newer and older AirPort Extremes
Okay, I thought this was going to be so simple. I have a newer (like a year old - square) Airport Extreme that I have three computers wirelessly hooked up to in the house. Great... so now, I want to hook up the old iMac in my son's room that doesn't have a wireless card to the network. It is too far away to use the ethernet cable into the back of my newer Airport Extreme station so I figured I'd dust off the old saucer type base station, plug the ethernet cable into that in my son's room and then just easily get the old base station to network with the newer one wirelessly.
Not so easy. The newer one has no reference how to make a network with other base stations whatsoever and the old book describes how to with the Airport Admin Utility which is not available to the newer version, just Airport Utility and it does not have the WDA options listed. I tried to extend the network and then Doh! The whole network disappeared.
Is this a compatibility issue with the older and newer base stations? Would it just be easier to put in a wireless card to my very old iMac, if that's even possible? Has anyone successfully networked an old and new base station together? If so how?

When you have an older "g" device (the flying saucer) and a newer "n" device (the square one) in order for them to communicate using wireless only, you must configure both of them in what is known as WDS configuration.
This is a quite tricky setup for most users. The best set of instructions that I've seen for this comes from expert user Tesserax in this thread:

If you elect to try this type of setup, you will probably need to hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Wireless Mode selection box to get the WDS option to appear. (My guess here is that Apple "hides" it because it slows down the network substantially). But, it's the only way to do what you want to accomplish with and old and new device.
Other options would include the wireless card you mentioned for the iMac. Even better might be a pair of ethernet powerline adapters. One adapter goes near the AirPort Extreme and the other near the iMac. The AC wiring in your home transmits the ethernet signal of the powerline. Works great, almost no configuration required and better than wireless in many cases.
