Setting up IMAP on iPhone 3Gs

I'm trying to setup my personal email account as IMAP, however during my setup I get these errors.
I then select continue.
Then I'm asked this.
I select NO.
After all that a screen comes up saying would you like to save this email account, so I select yes.
If I try sending an email, I get this error.
Any ideas..?

ShadyMac,
I deleted the previous email account and started from scratch.
These are my settings:
_Incoming Mail Server_
Host Name: mail.mydomainname.com
User Name: myname@my_domainname.com
Password: ***********
_Outgoing Mail Server_
Host Name: left blank for now
User Name: left blank
Password: left blank
Question: On "Outgoing Mail Server" do I add mail.my_domain, smpt.my_domain or do I put the telco server name mail.optusnet.com.au?
I left the outgoing blank and selected save, then I got this message
As soon as I selected continue, the test emails I sent came through.
Now the problematic part is the Outgoing Mail Server part.
Your advice..?

  • How can I set up an inactive iPhone 3GS as an iPod?

I have an inactive iPhone 3GS that has been restored to factory settings. I can not seem to get past the setup screens without putting in an active sim card. I don't have a sim card to put in it, nor do I want to put one in, I only want to use it for an mp3 player.
Is there a way around the set up screens? Can I use this expensive piece of equipment I OWN?

I'm pretty sure the only you can activate it is by putting in a sim card. This is just for the intial activation part. Once that is done you can remove the sim card and use it as an ipod.
If you don't have a sim you could try borrowing one from a friend? It's only temporary and the whole process will only take a couple of minutes
    Hope this helps!

  • HT1454 where did the "tv out" setting go on my iPhone 3gs with iOS 6.0?

I used to be able to use my rca cable video and audio cable out to send video and things like you tube to my tv, but I tried again recently and it does not work.  The "TV out" on and off setting in settings is gone now and I can not find a way to get the Iphone 3gs to recognize the video cable or send video out.  I am using the newest iOS.  I think it is 6.0.1  Is the setting gone and no longer possible to send the video or is there a trick that I dont know.  Does anyone know of an app that will allow this?  I want to send the video and audio on the phone to the tv monitor in my truck for my kids to watch.  It used to work fine but now it doesnt.  The only thing different is the iOS is different on the phone.

Same thing happened to me. Did you update to the newest version 4.3 YouTube app? It doesn't support TV out. Go to YouTube.com from your device and look at the bottom where you see a square with an arrow running through and it will open a window where you will see another YouTube app then click add to home screen and you should be back in business then trash that new version out!

  • Trouble setting up email on iphone 3GS

I'm trying to connect my school email account with my iphone so that I'll know when I get new emails. So far I've been unsuccessful. This is what I've done so far:
    Settings->mail,contacts,calendars->add account->
Then first I clicked microsoft exchange, and filled in the info but nothing happened.
After that didn't work I clicked 'Other' after clicking add account and filled in the info there but again nothing happened and the account was not added.
My school email says Microsoft Exchange in the address bar but at the top of the page it says Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access. Here is a link:
    https://cas.uno.edu/owa/auth/logon.aspx?url=https://cas.uno.edu/owa/&reason=0
I have no idea if I should choose Microsoft exchange or Other when trying to add an account or what to put as the outgoing/ingoing mail server.
I don't know if any of this makes any sense but if it does I'd really appreciate any help anyone can offer.

I have a similar problem with my son's school email on his 3GS. His school has given him limited instructions.
    All they say is:
You must connect with a secure connection or SSL to access GEM.
Active Sync Devices: iPhone, Droid, Windows Mobile, Palm, etc
    * gem.jsu.edu (select secure port 443)
and they advise if we still have problems, to contact our provider.
I assume that the gem.jsu.edu is for incoming, but not sure if it should be IMAP or POP. What is the outgoing? Is it the same? Is it the outgoing that should be port 443?

  • How do I set my contacts from iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4

How I transfer the contacts from my iPone 3GS to the new iPone 4?

    Hi,
The easiest way is to follow this step by step article to copy not only your contacts but essentially make a clone of your old iPhone and bring across everything......

  • Set time automatic on iPhone 3gs

    Hi,
When I set my iPhone time to automatic it is offset 4 minutes late and this doesn't get corrected. Where does it go wrong

If you have the time on your phone set to update automatically,... I'm wondering here...your profile says you're in Chattanooga...most of TN is in the central time zone...your phone's time gets updated by AT&T's servers. Could be a connection here...might be worth calling AT&T.

  • Setting Up Coxmail on iPhone 3Gs

I am trying to set up a new inbox for my coxmail work account on my iPhone. I am having a difficult time setting this up. Any suggestions?

My cox.net account was set up with no issues. Make sure to include the host name of pop.west.cox.net. I am in the East and use pop.east.cox.net just fine. The outgoing SMTP should read smtp.west.cox.net. When the kind Apple rep set me up she thought my email was @cox.com, and the created some problems when folks tried to reply to my emails, but I went in and changed it to cox.net and all was fine. Make sure to include your password.
Give that a try. Good luck.

  • Setting up 2nd hand iphone 3gs

    Hi
I've bought one of the above but at a loss as to to how to set it up. It's in full working order but was factory reset before I took it.
Therefore as it stands when the phone is switched on it  shows an image of a usb cable connecting to the itunes symbol. We've downloaded itunes to the computer but a the moment nothing is happening - any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

This iPhone was hacked to be unlocked, or it was officially unlocked by the carrier the iPhone was sold as carrier locked with when new?
If hacked to be unlocked, that could be the cause of the problem along with opening the iPhone up to major security problems.
Try restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone. If the iPhone was officially unlocked, this shouldn't be a problem which may resolve this problem and if not determine if there is a potential hardware problem with the iPhone.

  • Cheap Nokia vs. iPhone 3GS or 4?  For very day use?  Help wanted!

I own and use an iPod Touch 2G.  I was all set to get an iPhone 3GS or 4 to replace it (giving me a good quality camera, cell phone service, GPS, compass, etc.), when it suddenly occurred to me that I'm pretty rough on my cell phone.
I have a old beater of a cell phone (Nokia).  It's a small, flip phone, with a hard exterior, that's been dropped, taken a beating, and yet keeps on ticking.  I use it in the rain, put it in my pants pockets even with keys, pens, and coines, walk across pavement with it w/o fear of dropping it, toss it on the front seat of the car as a reminder to call spouse once I've arrived at a destination, etc.  It doesn't matter if it gets all scratched up.  (Even with a screen protector on it, the tiny little screen is all scratched up.  But no matter, all I use that for is to see the numbers I type in.)  In short, I don't have to give it a mind and I know that if it goes South, I can simply buy another one for $20-30 from AT&T.
When I suddenly realized this the other day, I thought that maybe the iPhone (at much more $$) really wasn't for me.  That it might not fit such an attitude or approach to a cell phone.
I'm sure that others have made a similar transition, however.   What did you all do to overcome the "just toss it anywhere" approach?  What do you all do to protect your iPhone, or to avoid disasters, and not worry about the sundry disasters that can strike it?

Just a quick update with a couple more details before I go to work:
I left my phone plugged into the wall charger all night long but the Apple logo is still blinking on and off. However, when unplugged from the charger, the screen goes blank and the unit does not respond to pressing/holding the buttons at all. Likewise, flipping the mute switch does not cause the phone to vibrate as it normally would, which made me wonder if power was being disrupted somewhere else in the unit before the battery. I just finished disassembling the unit down to the battery, looked for any loose connections etc., and did spot a suspicious looking spot on top of the #5 ribbon connector that I had not taken notice of before in my first disassembly. I'll take a picture of it and post a link for your consideration later on today when I have a spare moment, although I fear the worst.

  • COX Mail setup for Iphone 3GS

Has any set up mail on Iphone 3GS with a COX account with success. Wireless carrier is AT&T. If so I sure could use some help!!
    Thanks

I tried to follow these instructions for connecting my iPhone 3GS to my Cox email account (the East region) with this page from Cox:
    http://support.cox.com/sdccommon/asp/contentredirect.asp?sprt_cid=158115c0-571b- 4cad-a21d-28e74c663906
I could not get incoming or outgoing mail to work as shown in the article; although I could save the settings, when I tried to access the mailbox I got "failure to connect" error messages.
Just for kicks, instead of entering my full email address for the *incoming mail server* and *outgoing mail server* settings (e.g. [email protected]) as the Cox article displays, I entered my email address without the @ symbol and domain, just joeblow for both of those settings.
Eureka, that worked. I found that it worked being connected to my home wifi, and when connected without wifi over the regular cellular network and the 3G network.
So far, so good. I'll keep trying this for a day or two, and if it still works I'll post full instructions and also provide a comment to Cox so they can provide this suggestion as well. I'm sure these settings worked for Cox at one time, so I'm not sure why they didn't seem to work for me.

  • My iphone 3gs will not send pictures

my phone will start to send pictures and stop half way threw same as text messages everything is slow on my phone i have wifi excellent service even when i am talking to someone i have them on speaker and when i get ready to hangup i half to shake my phone for the screen to come up to end call also half the time no one gets mt text even it says it has went threw

Dunno if this will help...but I fixed the problem for me.  I found that after a while the pic messages were showing up as not delivered with a big red exclamation point to the side.
    So, here's what I did!
I tried taking a picture with the camera icon next the iMessage text entry box for a text message and sent it, went through fine.  Next, I tried sending a pic from the camera roll...finally I got my camera roll back to function.  Vwaaaalaaa!  Bug fixed.  I can now send picute messages again from both locations.
Also, to speed up the functionality of the iPhone, I set to OFF my iPhone 3Gs's Settings>General>Network> Cellular Data button while I was on the wifi connection and turned it back on when I was out and about(the speeds vary when on the cellular data plan anyway).
Well, I hope this helps some.
