Setting up iPad Mail so messages appear to come from an email forwarder address

I currently have my iPad set up to send and receive email from my btinternet.com email address and this works fine. I also have an email forwarder directed to the btinternet address and I would like to set up my iPad so that emails appear to come from the forwarder rather than from the btinternet address. I guess I need to set up a separate account but despite trying several times so far, I have been unsuccessful. Can anyone advise?

Yes, with iOS 6 your iPad can use your iPhone phone number to send and receive messages.  Your iPad must be using the same Apple ID for iMessage in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive as your iPhone.  If it is, and you don't see the number listed, first confirm that your phone number appears on your iPhone in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive.  If it does, then on your iPad try going to this setting, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in.
To have your messages addressed as being sent from your phone number, select your phone number on both devices in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, under "Start new conversations from".

Apps are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them, and all future updates will require you to enter the password associated with this ID, whether you are currently using this ID for purchases or not.  If you are being prompted for your sister-in-law's Apple ID when updating it means that there must be one or more apps on your phone that was purchased using her Apple ID.  (When she synced with your computer it may have transferred this app to your library.  It was subsequently synced to your phone.)  The only way to stop the prompt for her ID is to delete these apps from your phone and your iTunes library and repurchase them using your Apple ID.

  • TS2326 iMessages across multiple iPhones / iPods appear to come from the wrong person

We have three different devices using iMessage - 2 iPhones and an iPod Touch.  This issue is difficult to explain but from time to time when sending iMessage from one of these devices the sent message appears to come from the wrong sender.  For example, my wife will send an iMessage to a friend but it appears the iMessage came from me.
We also use iTunes.  All of the phones are signed into iTunes as the same user which is my username.
Could this be the problem and how do I fix it?  Do I need each phone to have it's own iTunes account?  If so, can I make it so purchases in the iTunes store are only made through my account?

You can continue to share the same iTunes account, but for iCloud, FaceTime, iMessage, Find My Phone, etc., each needs their own separate Apple ID's. So, whoever's iTunes account it is uses that ID(if a verifiable email addres) for iCloud, etc. The other person creates an Apple ID & uses that for iCloud, etc. You can create an Apple ID here:

Try closing the Mail app completely and see if it works properly when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • I receive numerous messages in "Bulk Mail". Where do they come from and how can I prevent them from being received? Thanks

Once you're on a spammer's list, there's nothing you can do to stop the flood of e-mail messages. You can either control it, using spam filtering (which is what files those messages in the Junk Mail folder), or you can throw out your e-mail address and get a new one.
It's sad, but spam is simply a fact of life at this point, and there's nothing to be done about it. Legislation has been tried, with zero success, since most spam either comes from countries with no legislation or from personal computers that have been infected with malware and are part of a "botnet."

nope. they'll either go to you because you have data, or they'll show up on your friend's phone as 'undelivered'

  • My husband and I share an iTunes account. I just got a mac, but everything I send by message from the mac appears to come from his phone. How do I correct this?

My husband and I share the itunes account. I just got an iMac. Everytime I send a message from my iMac, it appears to come from my husband's account phone number. Is there any way to fix this? Also, when I open iMessages, all the texts are from his phone (his text conversations).
Thank you so much for your help!
    Myrna

    Try This:
Open up the imessage app on your Imac.  Once you have it opened go to top left corner of your screen next to the apple picture and the word MESSAGES appears. Click on it then click on preferences and uncheck your husbands phone and number and or any other numbers which are checked. I had same problem this fixed it. Also if you wanted to you can open up your own Apple account, but that's not really necessary. My wife and I both share the same as you do

can I set up e-mail to automatically download attached files from a trusted source to a desktop folder?  Can't find the option (if one exists) in "Rules."

Have you checked Mail > Preferences > General > Downloads folder - change that to desktop. That should do it (that is my setting and it works here).

When I send a text from my iPad, it shows that it comes from my email address.  If I then text that same someone from my iPhone it still shows as if its coming from my iPad.  How do I stop this?

On your iPhone, go to Settings -> Messages -> Receive At -> Caller ID and make sure the phone number is selected - this will cause new messages sent from your iPhone to appear to come from your iPhone phone number.
(I actually prefer to have my email selected, so that when I message someone from my iPhone and they reply, it goes to both my iPhone and iPad)
Also, when you send a message from your iPhone, make sure you're not replying within an existing conversation (that was created on your iPad and linked to your email). Just start a new conversation (even if it's to the same person) by going to the Messages app, going back to "Messages" (top left corner) if you're already looking at a conversation, and then clicking the Compose icon in the top right.

how can i make it so when i send a message on my laptop that it come from my email and when i send a message on my phone is sends as my phone number. i want them seperate

    Hey mims1212,
Thanks for the question. You can configure what address you start new conversations from on both devices:
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5538
Please note that this will only work for new conversations, and will also be affected if another iMessage user starts a conversation with you (ex. if a friend sent you a message to your phone number, you will still receive that on your Mac, and you will be replying from your phone number).
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

In messages, at "receive at" it says "error" next to my phone number and all texts i send seem to come from my email... how do i solve this?

T he general concensus to fix this is to turn off Facebook and iMessage for a couple of minutes. Then turn them back on again and it seems to get them activated.

  • Emails appear to come from someone else

My emails are suddenly appearing to come from a name mentioned in an email sent to me, but one that has not ever in my address book, instead of my own name. Since I volunteer for this person, it is very embarrassing for Her name (misspelled) to show up as the person who sent email from my computer instead of my own name. How do I fix this?
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I wish I could be of more help but I can't ask you to enter details in these columns for security reasons.   But you say 'someone' has asked you to change your name.
If that is from an Apple address you could write to Apple security (NOT reply to the email address itself) and express your disquiet.
Spotlight may throw up other options ... but if there are only two examples it is unlikely your account has been hacked.   Have you talked to your eMail srvice provider?

  • Is there a way to set the iPad Mail app to only get email manually, not automatically when the app is opened?

I usually don't use my iPad Mail app to check my email, but sometimes I go into the Mail app just to send a test email or check an attachment in the Sent folder or some such, and every time I enter the app, Mail checks for new email. Which means it ends up downloading five hundred emails or so if I haven't been to the app in a while. Annoying! I haven't been able to find a setting that will stop Mail from checking for new Mail when I go into the app; is there such a setting?

You can turn mail off in the settings but then you can't use it for anything, including the "test" that you want to perform.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Account Name>Mail>Off. That totally turns off the mail account.
As long as mail is turned on and you launch the app, it will look for an download new mail.

Why is it that a free mail client like Thunderbird can do better than both Apple and Microsoft at solving this problem ... though it is not completely solved by either?
Because most users have no idea what cached connections are. They just want it to work.
Perhaps you should submit a bug report to Apple
