Setting up iTunes and Buffalo Linkstation Live

Anyone using this setup on Windows XP?
Anyone know if I can connect directly to my iTunes content from my Apple TV? I have the pCast/DNLA server running.
Thanks!

I think I'm having a similar problem. AirTunes has been working fine for the last 6 months, but a reboot last week has killed it. iTunes can see and connect to my remote speakers. When I hit play, the play-button responds correctly, turning into a pause button. However, nothing comes out of the APX out and the timeline doesn't move. I can play out of my local speakers fine.
At first I suspected that I might have disable a Windows service that was necessary for iTunes to play over the remote speakers. After a fresh install of WinXPPro and updates of APX firmware and iTunes, my symptoms are still the same.
Funny thing is that everything works fine with my WinXPPro Dell notebook. That makes me think that there is nothing wrong with the APX. Any clues?

  • Buffalo LinkStation Live and NasNavigator 2 problems with Mac

I am using a Buffalo LinkStation Live (LS-CH1.0TL) with my MacBook. With the Firewell turned off on my Mac it works really well. Unfortunately, with the Firewall on, a perpetual dialogue box appears asking to give permission to allow incoming connections from NasNavigator 2. Whether you click Allow or Deny, the message appears again after about 10 seconds. This process continues indefinitely. It works fine with Windows 7 (either run via Mac or on my previous PC). I have updated all software/firmware and reformatted and restored factory settings on the LinkStation.
Buffalo are stating that this is an Apple issue so can anyone help or is this going to be technical-support-tennis where each are blaming the other?! Your help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance for your help!

Somewhere at either Macworld or here I learned that DVDSP 2, DVDSP 3 and now DVDSP 4 "internally" are major re-writes.
Support for HD among a few other items along with QT 7 which comes with Tiger means sincerely that one set of applications/OS is not going to be stable.
Personally I think of all the issues possible its DVDSP vs QT.
Unless you move to DVDSP v4 the alternative is to wipe the disk and go back to Jaguar (10.2) or perhaps Panther but avoid upgrading QT beyond 6. I advocate wiping the disk because I'n not sure an archive and install to down shift to an earlier version of the OS is possible. If it is I'd still worry about mis-matched files in all sorts of locations.

  • Thinking of moving my iTunes library to a NAS (Buffalo Linkstation Live)...

    Hi
My iTunes library is growing, with movies and tunes etc its getting too big for my iMac HDD (320Gb). At the moment I have all my music on my iMac HDD iTunes library, and my movies on my NAS.
However I was wondering if I can put my whole iTunes library on my NAS. I have a Buffalo Linkstation Live which says in documentation
"iTunes automatically makes the LinkStation available as a content source in your iTunes software"
Not exactly sure what this means though? Also if it is possible, what is it like performance/managing wise? The Linkstation is wired Ethernet to my iMac by the way. Also if the iTunes library is on my NAS, can my PS3 access it to? I have a PS3 which accesses my NAS fine at moment, will the PS3 be able to "see" inside the iTunes library on the NAS?
    cheers

Anyone in similar situation or has a Buffalo NAS Live please?
    cheers

  • Using Buffalo LinkStation Live as an iPhoto '09 Library

I just recently purchased the buffalo linkstation live NAS. It is compatible with both Windows and Mac. I was wondering if it is possible to use the hard drive as a server with my iPhoto library on it, so other DNLA devices can view the videos and pictures in it. I heard that there are potential risks if the hard drive(s) is not Mac OS Extended (Journaled) formatted. However, this hard drive is for both Windows and Mac so I really hope I can use it as a server. I'm only going to use my iMac to add, edit the library with photos/videos, not use other computers. Otherwise, I can only use my hard drive as an iTunes server, which is kind of a waste, since the hard drive has 1tb and I want to use the most of it.
    Thanks,
    -Tarun

Then it's not a suitable location for the iPhoto Library.
One possible workaround: put the library on a Disk Image and store the Image on the NAS

  • Will the Buffalo LinkStation Live work with my Mac Book?

I am wanting to get a hard drive that will wirelessly back up my two MacBooks using Time Machine Software. Also, I would like to be able to hook up my printer to this device so that we can share a printer between the two Macbooks wirelessly.
I came across the "Buffalo LinkStation Live™ - LS-CHL". It seems to do exactly what I want, but I can not tell if it is compatible with Time Machine software or if I have to use their bundled software.
Basically, I want to share a backup HD and printer between my two MacBooks....wirelessly. I do not need a router because I already have one. I understand a Time Capsule would probably work, but it is more than I want to spend.
Here is a link to the LinkStation Live™ - LS-CHL.

    THANK YOU!

I'm not sure about the 2007 mini, but a quick check is to open your system preferences and look for Bluetooth preferences.  If there aren't any, then no magic mouse for you...

  • Connecting a Buffalo Linkstation Live to an AE network

I just bought a Buffalo Linkstation Live HS500GL on closeout at Circuit city. I have it hooked up to my AE via ethernet, but I can't "see" it on the network. The supplied software, the NAS Navigator seems to find it, and shows the IP address, and all the information, but I can't connect to it through a browser (Safari or Firefox) or any other way.
The instructions that came with it said I would have a NAS Navigator icon on my desktop as well as a new "share" icon on my desktop. There is no share icon showing up.
I have also tried connecting to server in the Finder "Go" menu, but this doesn't work either.
    Any advice out there?

Just bumping up to see if anyone has any ideas.

  • I have set up iTunes and iCloud with my iPhone 4S but have not been able to get information from the manual for transferring contacts from Microsoft Office Outlook to my phone contacts.  Is this possible and, if so, how are the contacts transferred?

I have set up iTunes and iCloud with my computer and my iPhone 4S but have not been able to determine whether contacts on Microsoft Office Outlook can be transferred from the pc computer to the phone.  Is transfer possible using iTunes or iCloud or other method to transfer the contacts.  If so, what are the steps for making the transfer successful.

  • My computer was rebuilt this week and I am in the process of setting up iTunes and have a weird setup issue. The music in my playlists plays but the same song doesn't play from the library. Initially, I opened ITunes while holding down Shift of control.

My computer was rebuilt this week and I am in the process of setting up iTunes and have a weird setup issue. The music in my playlists plays but the same song doesn't play from the library. Initially, I opened ITunes while holding down Shift of control key.

Scratch the post above - the musics that plays in the playlist also plays in the library and that is because i forgot that i imported from the cd yesterday. Basically, I see the rest of my music, but it doesnt' play and tells me it can't locate the file though the location in 'perferences' points to the correct location. Getting iTunes to play after a new computer or rebuild is a headache.

  • Buffalo Linkstation live - Itunes 10.5

    Hi,
I have a linkstation live connected to my home router via ethernet.
The linkstation live has an Itunes server built in to this.
Prior to upgraded to Itunes 10.5.0.142 my computer (Windows7 32bit) could see my linkstation live as an itunes server as displayed this in itunes as a shared library.
Now I've upgraded to 10.5.0142 (Had to to upgraded to iOS5) the linkstation is no longer seen.
I've looked on buffalo's site for an update however they have firmly laid the problem at apples door.

Please Apple - Can you re-issue a fix like you did before !
    Thanks
    Paul

I was looking for something like this. I have just bought a WD My Book World NAS drive. I connected it to my old router (G) and discovered it was too slow to wirelessly stream high bitrate music or movies. I then bought a Belkin N+ router which resolved this issue. However I have trouble with the mounts. When I wake my MacBook from sleep I can normally see the drive under Shares in Finder, but after some minutes it disappears. If I Go -> Network in Finder it turns up, but will not connect. The funny thing is I can be streaming music from the darn thing without interruption! The network shares on the desktop also turns on/off erratically. I can still access the folder contents from these even that the drive is not visible in Finder.
The NAS is set up for AFP on all shares which should be ok. I have tried both dynamic and fixed IP address on the NAS, but my Mac gets it dynamically. I'll try a fixed IP for this.
People are talking about automatic mount of network resources on start up. I came from Windblows and do not know all the fancy Unix commands and config files stuff. So how do you folks do this?
    Will be much appreciated, thanks!

  • 'Phantom'  iTunes tracks on Buffalo Linkstation Live shared drive

I have finally copied all my music over to a Buffalo Linkstation - I could not consolidate so dragged into iTunes from my PC drive and changed directory location. My PC can see the entire library direct and my iMac and PC can see the library on the Buffalo drive. But when searching direct to Linkstation via PC or iMac I am seeing multiple copies of tracks. Some of these multiples come up with '!' others show up 2 or 3 times and can be played. There are no duplicate copies on the LinkStation - the trash is empty. Any ideas please?

download the setup guide from here and follow the instructions.

  • AppleTV compatible with Buffalo Linkstation Live?

If you look it up, The LinkStation Live supports SMB and has a built in iTunes7 server.
    http://www.buffalotech.com/products/network-storage/linkstation/linkstation-live /
Do you think I could plug this directly into the AppleTV via ethernet or would I have to use my existing router?
Would it show up in AppleTV sources, as a shared library, if the LinkStation was set up that way?

Then it's not a suitable location for the iPhoto Library.
One possible workaround: put the library on a Disk Image and store the Image on the NAS

  • Airport Extreme Base Station N and Buffalo Linkstation

I want to set up a Buffalo Linkstation with my Airport Extreme Base Station
I have two options on the linkstation
    1. ethernet
    2. USB (female port)
Can I use the NAS over ethernet? Or do I have to use USB? If I use USB will it work if both the linkstation and the base station have female ports.
Will a USB with both male ends work? Who makes that?

I've decided to use the drive as a network drive and I've gone into the control panel and changed all the folders to Mac/PC
Can I use Backup to backup to a network drive? Or is there a better program?

  • New computer and setting up itunes and sych iphone new to new computer

    hi guys,
Just formatted my hard drive i did backup the iTunes folder inthe c:\users\name\my music\c folder e.g. apps music etc and i did also backup the apple computer folder in the c:\users\name\ app data\roaming\applecomputer folder(which has the iPhone and iPad backups in it),
I have just formatted my hard drive how do i restore iTunes? do you just authorise the computer and then click and drag the music folder into iTunes so all the apps and music go into iTunes and then do you copy and paste the apple computer folder (from the app data folder) to the new computers app data folder? then just plug in the iPhone and sych?
    http://blog.deversus.com/2011/02/how-to-sync-iphone-with-new-computer-windows-to -mac/
i did some reading and couldn't find much on how to restore iTunes from a backup there is heaps showing how to back it up! I did find this in the apple discussion forum. ( i think its for people who havennt made a copy of the applecomputer folder.
I just want to recover my itunes so i can just plug in my iphone and i dont loose data from when i did the backup 2 weeks ago, i can just plug in and contine like being on my old computerI
(By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from her phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are replacing your GF's computer, her phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to her phone or music ripped on her own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from her phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under Preferences>Devices in itunes(under the edit menu if using Windows).
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Address Book, iCal) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect her phone, iTunes running, do not sync at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on her phone will be in her itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore her itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding her contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.)
    What do you guys reckon?
    Thanks!

This is the process I would have recommended:
Backup your library using this User Tip.
Deauthorise the old computer if you won't be using it for iTunes.
Restore the library into the music folder on the new computer.
Install iTunes and sign in to your account.
For the "restore" process you can either just copy the backed up iTunes folder into the new computer or install and set up SyncToy to manage the transfer. If you install iTunes before restoring the library then you should delete/rename the existing empty iTunes library in your profile's music folder first.
Reconnecting an old iOS device backup set into a new iTunes installation is actually quite tricky, but provided the library has been properly conserved it is an unnecessary step. A library transferred as outlined above will be the same library the device was previously synced with, albeit on a different computer/operating system, and there should be no problem syncing media or apps. Info content such as calendar and contacts may need a little more care to make sure the same applications have as used previously have been installed and their data restored to them.
