Setting up Load Balancing / Clustering in BIP installation

Hi,
We're upgrading Siebel 7.8 to 8.1.1.5. As part of this process, we'll be replacing the two clustered Actuate Servers with two BI Publisher installations.
We need BIP to behave like for like compared to Actuate (clustered / load balanced) but I cannot any detailed instructions on implementing Load Balancing / Clustering of BIP anywhere.
We use a Loadbalancer.org appliance to balance the Siebel URL - my plan is to use this to support load balancing of the Web Services across the two BIP instances. However, I also need the two BIP installations to share the same repository.
I've come across an Oracle White Paper (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-publisher/bip-cluster-deployment-366859.pdf) that states:
The repository is shared among different servers in the cluster
However, looking at the installation guide for Oracle BIP 10.1.x.x.x, there are no details on how to achieve this.
Anyone know where to find documentation explaining, in detail, how to load balance multiple BIP servers to achieve the same level of high availability as we had with Actuate?
Thanks in advance!

  • Oracle Weblogic Load Balancing/Clustering

Can anyone tell me what the recommendation from Oracle is on how to best set up load balancing?
We currently use the configuration.properties file to identify the 2 servers we load balance.  We will be implementing additional servers in the near future and we were wondering if this is the best way to load balance 4 or more weblogic servers or if there is some other way.
We set up one cluster address to utilize these servers and use a separate hardware load balancer device.

  • Setting up Load Balancing for 11i for Intranet & Internet Access

Our current environment for 11i (11.5.5) is accessed only internally (via Intranet). We need to allow outside access (via Internet) also for self-service apps (ie. HR). Oracle Support/Metalink has stated that Load Balancing (note 148155.1) is the only supported method to have multiple (Apps Servers) systems access a single database. Could I get feedback from anyone who has implemented Load Balancing for 11i? Additionally if someone has implemented this for both intranet and internet access how has your company setup? Do the secondary server(s) from the Load Balancing note reside in the DMZ? And thus the primary app server and database reside inside the firewall? Thanks....

    Hi,
We are using 6 middle tiers for internal access for intranet access and 2 middle tiers in External DMZ with only web server running for Extrenal Access over Internet for Self Service.
You Implement one Load Balancer for first 6 internal Middle Tiers with site level profiles pointing to Internal .
You implement second Load balancer for external 2 middle tiers with server level profile options for these two servers pointing to External Load balancer .

    Hi Guys,
I am trying to set load balancing on ESB ,I got one document from oracle site for setting the load balancing on ESB. According to that document we have to change mod_oc4j.conf file for setting the roundrobin:weighted, metric, random algorithms.
But I am not able to find mod_oc4j.conf file in my ORACLE_HOME directory.
    Actual path is
    ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf/mod_oc4j.conf file

  • Issue in setting Load balancing for Indesign Server CS5.5

    Hi All,
I need to set up load balancing mechanism for Indesign Server CS5.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2(64 bit version).
I have dutifully following all steps defined in "WORKING WITH LOAD BALANCING AND QUEUEING FOR ADOBE INDESIGN CS5 SERVER.pdf"
After running Indesign server using batch file "startup-indesign-server-CORBA-4instances.bat" from "<ID_SDK>\samples\load-balancing-and-queuing-clients\indesignserver-startup-scripts", I get only one instance of Indesign Server running. How to run multiple instances of the INDD server ? Is running multiple instance has something to do with type of licensing ?
Now I run Clover.cmd script, I get this screen. I have no idea why its not working. Please help. Please let me know, if the scenario is not clear and more information is required.
    Thnx,

  • Cisco SA 520W set up for load balancing but traffic not routing properly?

Forgive me cause my networking skills are a bit rusty. So we have an SA520W that sits in-between both of our ISP connections. One connection is 4 bonded T-1s and the other is a shared 50/20. I have configured the SA520W with the optional port set to load balancing. I set the protocol bindings to be HTTP and HTTPS to go over the optional WAN which is the 50/20 yet when I do speedtests I am getting very mixed results. Sometimes it reflects that I am on the 50/20 and other times I just get 5 down and 5 up. and then other times it is a mix between the two, like 5 down 15 up.
It is just weird. I don't understand am I missing some other protocols I need to bind other than HTTP and HTTPS? It isn't just speed tests either I have noticed some weird web page loading issues as well. You can go to a page and it loads really fast and then later on...
This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks Community

    Hi accidentexchange,
Did you fail to log in when accessing the SA 520W thru both HTTP and HTTPS?

Furthermore,  can you give us an overview of your network topology and user info.  If  possible, can you provide us the configuration and dbglogs from your SA  520W so that I can forward to the development team?
To get the dbglog from SA520W, login through web UI and in the browser enter the following URL:

These   logs will store password, so please remove any password sensitive   information. Also if you are not comfortable posting the dbglog on the   community, you can send it directly to me through private message.

  • Load balancing with JSP

    Anyone and everyone,
When configuring load balancing with Weblogic clusters, does load
balancing take effect for all services or just EJB and RMI? Or another
way of saying the same thing, can I setup weighted load balancing for
the JSP engines across 2 weblogic servers.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

The load-balancing documentation you read describing the different algorithms only applies to RMI stubs (e.g., EJB clients). Please see http://www.weblogic.com/docs51/cluster/concepts.html#1026091 for a description of how load-balancing/clustering works with servlets/JSPs.
The short answer is that in using servlet clustering, most people want/need/use in-memory replication for HttpSession objects. In WLS 5.1 (and before), in-memory replication requires one or more proxy servers be set-up in front of the cluster. Typically, most people use something like BigIP to load-balance
across the proxy servers and let the weblogic plug-in for the proxy server handle the routing to the cluster. The plug-in uses round-robin until an HttpSession is established for a user, then it always tries to route to the server where the user's session is located.
    Hope this helps,
    Robert

    All,
I have a quesiton here regarding load balancing with DNS round robin. As of Chapter Adminstration of Clustering Weblogic server, Weblogic can be configured to balance by weight. How about Weblogic handle weight based balancing after DNS round robin ip response? or just can choose one way instead of both?
What's the big difference between choosing BigIP and software balancing (WL)?

I don't think you can configure this load balancing in weblogic in current

robin to do the load-balancing between JSP engins.
    My 2 cents.

In Memory session replication doesn't work without our plugins. I will have to
do little bit of investigation to figure out if other persistence mechanism's
would work without our plugins if you are interested in them. I have to remind
you though that other types of persistence mechanism's we support are slower

Currently none. We are taking steps to make the plugin's and cluster more
robust, we currently don't have any plans to work with other 3rd party vendors.

This information is saved in the cookie. But I wouldn't count that, as we
have plans to change this. I cannot give your more details.

  • Load Balancing on RV320

    Hi,
My Cisco RV320 router are not working like I want ...
I get two ISP in France, same tech. specs., sames bandwidth, but 2 differents way to connect.
The first WAN is connected in PPPoE with a ADSL2+ Modem
The second WAN is connected in Static IP with a modem/router
I set the load balancing Auto. but it seem that the WAN2 is more used than the WAN1...
For example, I upload a big documents, like a video on youtube, witch take a long time and need the max Bandwidth. While I'm going to download a file with an internal software, who use a different port by the way. The most of the time, it only use the WAN2 ... so my download is flanged ! It only donwload @~450KB/S when it can max @ ~1,8MO/S, and the WAN1 is not blinking ... And sometimes the balancing is good ... I can't understand the RV320 logic ? But Maybe is there a bug ? Maybe I get a bad configuration ?
    Have a clue ?
    Please help me !

So, you can hear the phone ringing and answer it? which means that SIP pakets are coming through WAN to LAN and well redirected to the phone IP, but you cannot hear after that, which means that there could be a problem with the RTP packets.
If you have problem only with the incoming calls and not the outgoing, than try enable/disable SIP ALG (Firewall). If that doesn't fix the issue, try to allow (or even forward) from WAN to LAN RDP -  UDP ports 16384-32767 to the phone IP.

  • Load balancing with an ASA5510

We have an ASA5510 with two ADSL lines connected and the auto fail-over set up - this is all tested and if the main line fails, the backup line is used in it's place - no problem there.
However, I'd like to increase our connection speed, and one way I've done this in the past is to add a couple of extra ADSL lines to a router that is capable of load balancing.
I'm aware that the ASA5510 does not load balance (seems a waste as we've got the backup line just sitting there doing nothing!), but would it be feasible to add another router in front of the ASA device to perform this load balancing function?
If Yes -  any suggestions as to what device I might use?
If No - what would be the issues that would prevent me from doing this?

Thanks for the prompt response Simon
Had a look at the RV016 which seems like it would fit the bill and give us plenty of scope for expansion. I've not set up load balancing on a Cisco before - does it just work (ie auto-detect the connections), or do I need to be aware of licencing etc (as seems to be the case with a lot of cisco features)
With regard to port forwarding, the ASA is already configured and working OK, so I was intending to just push all traffic through to it - my thinkimg being that it's easier to have the config in one place. Is this likely to cause any issues?

  • RV042 load balancing and OWA

I have a rv042 router with two internet connections. I have setp the WAN1 and WAN2 and set the load balance mode.
Surfing on internet is then not a problem and I checked that I was using the two internet connection.
However if I try to connect to my corporate (OWA) outlook web access i am looping on the first page where I should provide my credentials.
I know that most of the load balancer could be set up with a sticky bit to keep the session on the same WAN connection, but reading the documentation, googling and searching on this community I do not find any help.
Does someone have an idea and could help me.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
i've have a RV042 too, and i have the same problem.
Loadbalance work for every single request, so every website get requests from both connection even if there is a single user browsing.
Website side, some requests are "logged in" (if request came from the same IP the user logged in), but not if request come from the other wan (because IP mismatch). I've experienced many problems with many websites, not only OWA, not only requesting me to log-in continously, but also server-side crash because server session get lost in the middle of transactions.
Protocol Binding is NOT the solution, since it will require to bind all HTTP to just one connection (this way, where is loadbalance?) and if that wan fails over you get lost of connectivity.
Right now I didn't found any solution to use loadbalancing correctly, the right way to do would be that the RV042 remember the association CLIENT/SERVER->WAN, so that once i client connect to a server the router whould use only that one WAN, and when a WAN fails the table get cleared to restart balancing requests on remaining WANs.
Hope to see this function on next firmware..
