Setting up Logic Environment for EWI-EVI / beginner

Greetings - I have a Yamaha EWI-EVI (wind controller, usb midi only - no sound module) that I would like to use as input to my Logic Studio.
The data stream it generates includes standard note on and off messages, to which Logic responds appropriately. The "volume" control is sent as two-byte (cc?) messages, with the second byte encoding the desired volume, 1-127. (Looks like they actually come in pairs of messages - the first message uses '2' as the first byte, and 2nd message has null as the first byte. Both have volume info in the second data byte) If I use a "Transform Op2" fader on the C-press input, I can extract the air pressure data and the fader moves accordingly, but I can't figure out how to mix the fader's 'out' back into the rest of the data stream so that these data control the volume of the sound that the mapped software instrument generates. The pitch and pitchbend (biting pressure) information are handled appropriately without any transformations.
Bonus questions: How can I limit this pitch processing only to the EWI, and not other MIDI instruments? (It's just me, so it's sorta moot, but I'm curious.) Also, how do I map the output of the EWI to a specific software instrument in the Arrange window, rather than whichever one happens to be highlighted?
Quick Product Review: For those interested in a cheap wind controller, I like this device. I played briefly decades ago, and have picked it up pretty quickly again. The Aria software that comes with has samples of many instruments that are very good, but I wouldn't say outstanding. On the whole, it is a very good value to add a tool to your MIDI arsenal, especially if you have experience with any of several wind instruments (e.g., sax, flute, bassoon) - there's no exact match for clarinet mapping. On the downside, modifying the hardware/firmware settings can be extremely unreliable and fussy, as of v.1.0.5 or 6, depending on where you look. Have wasted hours trying to get the device fully responsive again. Once, it's working, it plays well (if you can live without tactile feedback from the keys). Best just to control it with your sequencer software ... which is why I write.

Can you give example message strings? If' it's just standard CC volume messages, it should have a CC status (I forget what that is offhand), a MIDI channel (0-15), a controller number (6), and a data value (0-127)

Cable all the outputs back to a new instrument object - untick it's icon, make sure it's not channeliseing or changing anything - this dummy object will just merge all the streams back into one before sending it elsewhere. Or am I misunderstanding you?

On the Click & Ports environment layer, instead of taking a feed from the "SUM" output of the physical input object (ie, the sum of all MIDI ports arriving to Logic), just take a feed from the MIDI port the EWI is on. You can use transformers to further choose only a particular channel for procesing on that port, if necessary.
Cabling from one of the other ports removes that stream from the SUM output.
Also, how do I map the output of the EWI to a specific software instrument in the Arrange window, rather than whichever one happens to be highlighted?
This is how Logic is supposed to work - you can choose which instrument to play be selecting it's track. If you always want to play one instrument, in the environment you can cable it there directly - however, as this MIDI stream is bypassing the sequencer, you won't be able to record it.

Hehe - me too. I played flute for a few years back when I was about 12, and can still roughly play and remember the fingerings (which are fairly adaptable to many wind instruments).

    VinodYour TEST/Patch instance does not necessarily need to match your production in terms of hardware specs. However, you need to make sure you are running on the same OS and updates. UAT instance is the one that needs to be running on a hardware which is identical (or very close) to production.

  • SOA Management - setting up logical port for WS

    I'm trying to use the RepositoryFrameworkWS from abap.
    During this i am setting up a logical pot for the webservice.
    This is done through the SOA Management.
    I find the consumer proxy CO_KMCWS_REPOSITORY_FRAMEWORK
    I then try to create the logical port.
    i use the wsdl

    when i apply the settings i get an error.

    I know the operation i want to use(findResources). But I don't know how to set it up.
    Can anyone help me ?

    Hi Rasmus,
    Please check the Service definition in the WSDL URL given for Logical Port creation is same as the Service definition in the proxy CO_KMCWS_REPOSITORY_FRAMEWORK. It seems to me that  some methods/ operations in th proxy could not be found in the Service definition in the WSDL URL.
    Download the WSDL from the URL and open it using some tool and compare the Service definition with that of the proxy.

    we do have the following system landscape. One DEV and two separate QA and PROD systems.
    DEV->
    >QA1  -> PROD1
    >QA2  -> PROD2
    For these we want to transport parallel from DEV to QA1/QA2 and then parallel to PROD1/PROD2 via ChaRM.
    My questions are:
    1) Do I have to set up one or two logical components?
    2) How do I have to set up the logical component exactly?

  • Setting Up Logic 8 for Kontakt 3

    Hi all,
    I have recently jumped from Cubase SX 3 on a PC to Logic Audio Pro 8 on a MAC.
    I am trying to set up Kontakt 3 in Logic so that I can have 1 instance of Logic open but running on 16 midi channels - it's not a good idea to open multiple instances of Kontakt as I'm sure you know. However this seems to be easier said than done. Other software instruments seem to configure quite easily but I am totally flummoxed as to how to do this with Kontakt and Logic. A friend did start to explain to me but after 10 minutes my mind was numb ad surely the process isn't as convoluted.
    Also my friend did say that he has lost the use of individual midi channels in Logic to control the Kontakt channels. They just don't work he says, or they end up all controlling one channel with no effect. His work around it to use hyper draw on aux channels; again seems very weird way of doing things as you have then lost all the midi functionality.
    Please help. Are there in depth instructions to do this.

    Totally wrong and just an anachronistic rumour - since version 3.5 there is absolutely no need for Multitimbral instances of Kontakt anymore - the whole engine has been revamped and you'll be surprised after upgrading...

    I have a requirement like have to create a public site with anonymous acces
    have created one web application and extended to internet zone and made it as Anonymous access
    First web application will be by Winodws authentication and second web application will anonymous access.
    My questions are here as follows
    1. we are using publsihing site template for the site,  this is scenario like documents and list item will be added using windows athuentication and once list item and document approved and than it should be visisble to the Anonymous
    users. Please suggest what will be best approach?
    3. After extending the web, even after applying anonymous access it is still prompting for credentials
    4. Required to set an AAM for two webs individually. How to Configure AAM?

    You done the right thing, you need to enable the publishing feature on your site (if not enabled earlier) which enables that only published content will be shown to the anonymous users.
    If you are still getting prompts for credentials then it means your content is not published properly, make sure you have published all pages, images, js and css files properly, because if any thing is not published properly then you get a prompt to enter
    credentials.

    Being a JBoss geek I cannot let it pass to recommend to at least investigate JBoss 7.1 as a possible alternative to Glassfish :)
    Also MySQL works fine and is very common and thus very much documented, which is a big plus. But I would not pass up the chance to look into PostgreSQL as well. To me that is basically the perfect balance between the simplicity of MySQL and the power of an Oracle DBMS.
    It depends on what you want to do with it of course, a simple web application works perfectly fine on MySQL, but then you probably also don't need the horsepower of a full enterprise container. You can also just use Tomcat 7 which is fast, easy to setup, well documented and doesn't use up so many resources either.

    For setting the environment variable and notes for how to program and sample programs are available in the Java card kit itself..
    Setting Environment variable in Windows XP
    Create Batch file named javacerd_env.bat and type the following in the file and save it.
    set JC_HOME=C:\java_card_kit-2_2_2
    set JAVA_HOME=c:\j2sdk1.5
    set PATH=.;%JC_HOME%\bin;%JAVA_HOME%\bin;%PATH%
    Later open command window and run the batch file.
    The above are if u install java j2sdk in c:\ and u extracted javacard in c:\java_card_kit-2_2_2..
    Else u set the appropriate path where u installed Java and card kit..
    Further reference read the manual available in the kit cJDK_Users_Guide

  • Configuring Environment for receiving discrete multichannel midi in Logic 8

    I am using ipMidi to send multichannel midi via ethernet to Logic 8 on my G5.
    The midi is showing up fine at Logic 8. I can run one instrument track no problem - but when I try to use more than one instrument track at a time I have the following problem: The multiple channel data is getting combined or summed, I think, by the default environment configuration in such a way that each instrument channel is receiving all the incoming midi channels and not just the one it is set to receive. Can someone help me with configuring the environment for multichannel midi? My goal is to have 8 instrument tracks in Logic respond discretely and simultaneously to 8 channels of incoming data.
    My Apple Audio Midi Setup recognizes the ipMidi port and so does Logic - but I have yet to figure out how to properly cable my environment so that each instrument channel only sees the midi channel it is set to receive.

    In a bit of a hurry, off to a gig so I may not be thinking this through.
    It looks like software instruments are set up to use the merged ports as I don't see anyplace to set the port for a virtual instrument, external MIDI devices yes, virtual instruments, no. However.. in the environment you can set up a multi for multi-timbral softsynth/sample player and that would give you more
    channels but on a single instrument, you can select a port when using a multi-instrument.
    Also, "settings" are on a per-song basis.

In other words, if I'm playing a Bb trumpet part in C, the score would display the part transposed one tone higher & display the correct key signature, but it would still sound in C.     You can do this on a region by region basis by selecting the appropriate Staff Style in the Score Inspector.
    If you want to apply a particular Staff Style to a particular track automatically as you record, you can adjust the Style parameter at the bottom of the Track Parameter Box.

    I'm using a pre-conditional loop block in my GP process and using a Business Logic CO for the loop decision action. My expectation is the business logic CO should be executed at background and based on its resultstate the loop flow will happen. I've 2 resultstates in the loop decision (bus logic CO) - Continue and Break. I'm setting these two resultstates in the following way :
    Continue : BOOL(@currentLevel < @totalLevel)
    Break : !BOOL(@currentLevel < @totalLevel)
    currentLevel and totalLevel are the two input parameters (unsigned int type) of the business logic CO. If I test the CO it works fine and displays the correct resultstate. But at runtime the process gets paused at the loop decision action CO. I see the loop decision action link in my GP workcenter and UWL and on clicking of it nothing happens. If I refresh the screen still it's there as before.
    Anybody who can throw any light on this issue will be highly appreciated. And reward points guranteed for any help to solve the issue

    Hi,
    Well I solved this issue myself ! After lot of research I found out that the resultstates should be in all small case <b>continue</b> and <b>break</b> and NOT Continue or Break.
    But now I've a different issue:
    I've an initial action under a sequential block. Then the pre-conditional loop block with a loop decision action and a loop body block(seq block).
    The expectation is initially the decision action should get the output param passed by the initial action and then in the iterations it will get the values passed by the output params of the loop body action. To achieve that I have mapped the output param of the initial action to the input param of the decision action and the input and output param of the loop body action. But it seems that the loop decision action though mapped to both the output of the initial action and the loop body action takes the value only from the initial action over the iterations and the values from the loop body action are not getting passed to the loop decision action. The context parameter value of the loop decision action remains static and it becomes an infinite loop.
    Any help to resolve this issue will be highly appreciated.

    you can code this but need some good expertise on fm's  , date handling techniques and subroutine call coding.

    to make the code run only on 1st of every month
    capture the rundate of ur prog .. take value of  sy-datum
    ex.. 01.xx.yyyy
    or date std will be yyyymmdd so check for dd = 01 ..
    so per logic first two chars show that its first of any month in any year ..
    if yes
    execute the logic for the first of every month ..
    endif.
    2.
    where the code needs to be run on mon-fri and not on public holidays / sun / sat ..
    first fetch the day based on date .. like mon or tue or wed .. except sat and sun..
    second check whether if m-t-w-th-fr if any of them is  a holiday or not
    u need to check the date in the calender list like tholi thoc and .. to check whether that is a holiday or not ..
    coming to sat and sundays .. u need to check the day for date using function modules and build the logic ...
