Setting up macbook pro as a server

Hi,
I'm doing a project for school where i write apps for the iphone/ipod touch. i want to write the apps on the macbook pro then access them via the internet  using airport/bluetooth. I'm kind of a novice on macs. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ok, so I have the bluetooth set up and am accessing my macbook webpages on one ipod touch but for the other one it won't set up. In the network window I see the 2nd ipod connect for a brief moment, then the message "Connection unsuccessful make sure mac is turned on and in range" appears either after I try to connect or after I see the pairing code and then try to pair. I thought maybe too many bluetooth devies were connected at the same time (keyboard, mouse, 2 ipods) but i turned off one of the successful ipod but still got the prob. Any assistance?

how set up  macbook  pro Internet router?

But isn't the MacBook Pro connected to the modem and being used as the router? You can only share an Ethernet connection wirelessly. You only check the box to share the Ethernet connection to Wi-Fi. Do not check any of the other boxes. You select Ethernet from the dropdown menu as the connection you will share. Your preferences should look like this:
The only difference will be that yours will show just Ethernet, not Ethernet 1.

  • How do I enable SSE2 instruction set in Macbook Pro?

    Hi all,
I am running a virtual Ubuntu in my Macbook Pro, and I have tried to compile some C++ source code in that virtual Ubuntu.
The error messages I got all point to the "SSE2 instruction set is NOT enabled".
I know all Macbooks are equiped with this SSE/SSE2, but now the problem is how to I make sure it is properly activated.
Does anyone have similar experience? Thanks for the help in advance!

Sign into the App Store using your Apple ID and password. Locate the Yosemite upgrade and download it to your computer. The purchase is "free." It's a 5.13 GB file so it will take a while to download. When the download is complete the installer will start automatically. You will see an Install button appear on your screen. Before you click on it I recommend that you copy the installer from your Applications folder to your Downloads folder. The installer will delete itself automatically from the Applications folder when it has completed the installation.
Might I suggest you do this beforehand:
Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
Make a fresh backup of your current system.

  • Need help setting up Macbook Pro and external hard drive(s)

I apologize for the vague title but I was limited to so many characters.
Here's my situation (sorry for being verbose, I just want to be thorough)
Right now I have a Macbook Pro and a 500 GB external hard drive (Western Digital using USB 2.0 connection). I've outgrown the external hard drive and am ready to upgrade my external memory.
    Here's my issues right now:
My iTunes library and music reside on the external hard drive. Using iTunes is painfully, I mean brutally, slow for some reason. For example: if I were to just change the genre of an average album, it takes upwards of 4 or 5 minutes to change the data. Compared to the POS Dell computer I used to run iTunes with (using the same external hard drive), the same task would take 5 seconds at the most. Likewise, if I try to watch a video that resides on that external hard drive right now, it skips and eventually stops because (presumably) the data is transferring extremely slowly. I have no idea, and haven't gotten any real answers, as to why this is happening with the Macbook and/or if using a Firewire connection would improve the speed.
Taking that into consideration, here's what I would like to do (and ask). I see myself having one 1T external hard drive for all my music and one 1T external hard drive for all my movies and videos. Ideally I would like to be able to access these two hard drives wirelessly with my Macbook and have it transfer the data very quickly - as it should IMO. Certainly a lot faster than it is now.
I would love to just be able to hook my Macbook up to my main stereo and run iTunes through it without having to lug around and messily connect the external hard drive which contains all the music. As well as being able to hook my Macbook up to the stereo and LCD monitor and be able to watch a video, again without the hassle of having to connect the external hard drive - which as I said prior, appears to transfer the data way too slowly anyway.
Any suggestions on what external hard drives I should get and any other hardware/software I need to run them wirelessly would be gratefully welcomed.
Thanks in advance (and I apologize for the long winded post)
    MM

Obviously, FireWire is a fast connection, but for changing metadata, USB is plenty fast. Why it takes so long is anyones guess. Is it a USB 2.0 drive? Using external drives can be tricky. My father uses them for his gigantic library of almost 80,000 songs. When you have it setup properly, it works fine, but if you say forgot to have the external drive mounted when you launch iTunes, iTunes defaults the library back to your Music folder, then when you start importing, it puts in on the internal drive, then you have to go back and reset it, etc. Problem, with iTunes alone, you can only set one library, so if you want to use two drives, you will have to have one set at any given time.
So you could set the music one first, add to the library, then set it for movies, then add those to the library. Then keep the library set to the one you use most frequently, so you don't have to always switch. Once you import all media, and iTunes "knows" where to find the files, you can play them with no problems with two drives.
For wireless, you have a couple choices. If you have two Macs, you could keep one connected to the two drives, then with the other computer, just connect to the network and share the iTunes library so your other computer has access. If you want the music stored on a drive accessible wireless, you'll probably have to look to NAS, or some form of wireless storage. If you do that, their may even be a better third party software solution other than iTunes for managing multiple libraries.
This is something iTunes really needs. As libraries grow, one drive just isn't enough often.

  • Macbook Air after Backup set as Macbook pro

After I have got a new Macbook Air, I reset my latest Backup from my further Macbook Pro in order to keep all my files and software running. The installation went all right, but in the end I found out that the setting of my computer say I am using a Macbook Pro instead of a Macbook Air, and the system misses the dvd-slot which is not installed.
It does not appear as a problem, though, but I wonderd wether it might be a reason to do something about it, and if it was possible to change the settings easily.
    Thanks for hints!

  • Region Setting on MacBook pro - no longer CD rediness supported

    Hi,
I live in Europe, but I'm quite often travelling to the US. Yesterday I bought a DVD movie in US with region code. Since I'm using Vista for Outlook purposes on my MacBook Pro I was too lazy to boot in Leopard. So I was asked by Vista to set the regional code what I did. Today I bought some Audio CDs which I wanted to play with my MacBook PRo on Leopard, but Leopard said that these CDs are not readable. With Windows they are.
Any suggestions how to enable my CD ROM again?

Yes, you can load your camera software using an external drive.
You can also replace the internal optical drive.
Have a look at OWC for compatible internal drives.

  • No option for "Airplay" in "Display setting on MacBook Pro; Where else is this option?

Trying to mirror MacBook Pro to Apply TV. Under "Display" settings there is no option for "Airplay". Even after a software update, such option was not visible. Where else can I find an Airplay option on my Mac OS X version 10.7.5.
    - I set up Apply TV with my iPhone and I had no problems
    - I already turned on "Airplay" settings on Apple TV
    - However I am unable to find the "Airplay" option on my MacBook Pro
         - I opened up my "System Preferences"
         - Clicked on "Display"
              * On and Off "Airplay" option is nowhere to be found.

    Hey JenLeb16,
I am not sure what version of MacBook Pro you are running, but as long as you have a MacBook Pro that is an early 2011 as well as running OS X Mountain Lion (10.8) then you should be able to do that. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • Setting up macbook pro with garage band and a mixing desk. NEED HELP ASAP!!

Hi everybody i have an issue which has been an issue for some time now.
i have a Behringer XENYX1222fx mxing desk, and a new macbook pro with the software 10.6.2 i am also using Garage band 09. when using this i am trying to set up my bass guitar through the mixing desk and the DI box which connects through a usb to the mac.
i can not get a signal/level come through to the macbook on garage band. i am getting a signal through on the mixing desk but nothing at all on garage band.
can someone send me the instructions to set it up? is it in system preferences in the input and output i really dont know please can i have as many options as possible.
    Many thanks
    Scott

Scott, I can relate. It's happened to me too!
It's time to play signal chain detective.
First, are you sure you are getting output from your bass? Plug it into an amp and test. (Once I figured out that the battery in my bass had died. New battery: problem solved.)
Once you know you're getting a signal from the bass, then check to be sure the mixer is outputting the signal. Run the outputs from the mixer into an amp.
Once you know your bass and mixer are cooperating, then it is time to engage the interface.
Be sure the preferences for the input to recgonize the interface are set BOTH in GarageBand and the OS generally. The problem is that when you connect an interface, GarageBand will see it and ask if you want to use that or line in. Be sure the interface is selected. For the OS preferences, click on the Apple logo and go to system preferences.
Finally, you might ask a friend to bring over an Apple laptop to eliminate the possibility of something wrong with your MBP, or lug your gear to his or her house, and try it. (Just remember to leave with all the settings restored to how you found them.)
If you live within reach of an Apple store, you can go to the genius bar.
And if nothing works, you can pay for a call to Apple support, or perhaps the support line for the maker of your audio interface.
Good luck. I know it can be frustrating when you want to make music ad you are spending a lot of time horsing around with the technology.

Is there ANY hope --please help-I'd love to get on my own notebook.

    Thanks so much

If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know that account password, the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise, boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but you won't be able to unlock the Keychain. If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it. You’ll need to reset your keychain in the preferences of the Keychain Access application.

  • Ref.: Setting up Macbook Pro to work with network printers.

I am tired looking for an answer for my issue. I am 5 hours going in and out of blogs and foruns trying to set my printers on my recently bought Macbook Pro with Mac X (10.6.2).
At home I have a home network with on Windows Vista PC and one Epson TX105 Series printer, and I have a Windows Network at work where I am trying to set a HP Laserjet 1505n.
Both cases my notebook tries to reach the printer without success.
I've added the printer all the ways possible and I couldn't get my Mac to print. I've tried every configuration possible.
Anyone could give me a hand?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

    2) Have you tried attaching the second to your Mac and printing from there.
No, I haven't. The Office's network administration does not allow me to do that yet. We scheduled to do that next week. (The other printer is installed at home).
You are very welcome. And on what's above, good, hope it works.
    3) On your network, what is the printer attached to?
In my home network, the Epson TX105 is attached to a Windows Vista Home Premium PC ....
I couldn't tell if the printer works when attached to the Mac at home. Yes? Are you able to share files at home with the Vista machine? Here are some Vista settings that are likely to work across the board for you.
    1. Select a folder (and your printer) to share, right click on the folder, choose sharing, and, using the remaining menus/options, share the folder with everyone allowing read and write (later, after getting things working, you can change who is allowed to share the folder).
    2. Go Control Panel > Network and, turn on file and printer sharing, Turn off public folder sharing, and Turn off password protected sharing (unless sharing won’t occur without turning it on). Turn on allow network access if there is a box to do so (can't remember).
    3. Restart (probably not necessary, but I’d do it).

  • Setting up Macbook Pro as a wireless router

    Hi guys.
    First time in the community
So, I couldn't find any answers to my question, sorry if it alredy exists.
I've been using my DSL connection using a ethernet cable connected directly to my Macbook Pro.
I wanted to make it into a wirelles router to use it in my iPhone 4. I went to prefenrences > sharing and I configured it there.
Everything alright both ethernet and Wifi turned green, the airport icon in the menu bar turned into a "little tv set", I chose a 128bits WEP sucurity password,
founded the wifi in my iP, it connects (takes a little longer than the average), but I can't use it.
On my Macbook I can use the ethernet connection, but not in the iP.
    Sorry my english!

I just bought my MacBook Pro and got an HP Photosmart C4780 printer with it. But I'm having trouble setting it up to work wirelessly (it's a wireless printer). It can't find my wireless network even though I'm sitting right next to it.

I usually get the driver package off the HP website instead of using what's on the disk packed with the device.

If your MBP is truly "new" and not a pre-owned one that's new to you, there is a separate forum for the newer ones (black keys) here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=251
Their hardware is somewhat different than the older MMBP models covered in this forum so, should this be a hardware issue, someone in the other forum is more likely to have current experience with it.
