Setting Up Mail Accounts

My high school has our email addresses linked with Gmail, but I would like to recieve my emails on my iPad2. If my school email ends in @education.nsw.gov.au but is still somehow linked with Gmail, how would I set that up using the mail account settings on my iPad2?

I can´t belive that no one here is running a Mail server on Lion server that is accessable with imap using iOS devices!  Is mail server on Lion really that bad?

I did go to settings, restrictions....and there was a list of things...but no "off" or "on" to change.
If the word "Off" is sort of cloudy and the settings are greyed out - that means you do not have restrictions enabled - but just in case - do you use a passcode to lock the iPad?
Exactly what message are you getting and where are you getting the message - what does the "email icon" mean?

  • Problems Setting Up Mail Account

I've been using Thunderbird and just want to give Mail that comes with OS X a try.
Having problems trying to send mail after setting up the account exactly as Thunderbird. SMTP.ATT.YAHOO.COM as outgoing and pop.att.yahoo.com as incoming.
I've tried everything but can not send mail.
Also, where is the stationary that can be sent out in the emails?
    Thanks!

I was having the same problem. I finally found that when setting up the account do not check the box for Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and do not check Use Authentication. Tha did it for me.

  • Need big help with setting up mail account.

Okay first, I would like to say you guys really need a sticky of basic instructions on how to set up a mail account for different carriers. I use Gmail mainly but I cannot get my mail to sync for the life of me with POP on and everything. I also heard Gmail is buggy and I would like to try an IMAP account which I heard was better. Can ANYONE give me some good step by step instructions on how to set one up. What is the best? What works well? I am willing to create a new email just for the iPhone. Thanks in advanced!

There are too many email account providers from internet service providers to non-ISP email account only providers for Apple to provide "basic" instructions for each. The iPhone's email client is not much different from an email client on a computer and the require account setup information is provided by your ISP or email account provider.
You can't just set up an IMAP account. You must have an email account provider that supports/provides an IMAP account and there aren't many that do. Most ISPs and email account providers support/provide POP accounts only.
Yahoo provides a free IMAP account for iPhone customers but there are advertisements included with each sent message. An Apple .Mac account can be accessed as an IMAP account.

I tried many times by adding all details I have, but I still can't get it work.
Please help me to stengthen out the problem and thank you so much for your time.

What type of email account - POP, IMAP, or Exchange?
If an Exchange account, does your employer support accessing the account with an email client on a personal computer at home and/or with a device such as the iPad?

  • TS3276 Set up Mail Accounts

I have 2 gmail accounts set up in my mail on macbook air. I send mail from one account but the reply goes to my other account. When composing the email I double-checked that the mail is sent from the correct address. The reply shows that it is mailed to the correct address but when I click the arrow to the right of the name on my account, it reads as my other gmail address. What's going on?

Hmmm.  All I can say is check for a fourth time.
POP account as you describe,  but IMAP is the more common for synching accounts between machines.
Try deleting that mail account  on the Mac and renenter all your info as new if you have to.

  • Cant set up mail account... (most likely just due to my Noobiness.)

    Hello.
    Im abit of a noob.
I go into the mail application. I fill out my full name, Email address, and password.
Then, it takes me to a page where in asks me the account type, incoming mail server, and password.
It gives me the options of POP, Imap, or Exchange for account type.
and I dont have any idea what any of those mean.
for "incoming mail server" it gives me the example "example.mail.com"
and im still not sure what its asking for, I enter in all of my mail extensions, to no avail.
my Email addresses are [email protected] and [email protected]
I should have been able to figure this out via the help menu, but after I type in the help keywords I cant click on any of the options that pop up. I only get a "boop" sound.
    please help.
    Thank you for your time.

You need to know what type of mail accounts you have at each of your mail ISPs. Since you set up these accounts you should know if they are POP, IMAP, or Outlook Exchange accounts.
If you currently access these accounts from another computer you can check the setups on them to obtain that information including the incoming and outgoing mail server domain names. Alternatively you can ask at the domains where these mail accounts reside for the information. Your university should have a site with information on configuring different mail applications to access your mail at the institution.
You can obtain general help by selecting Mail Help from Mail's Help menu.
Without any other information than you have provided there's little more we can do to help you.

  • Setting up mail account

Apologies if this question has already been answered. After scanning 12 pages of forum entries my eyes started to cross.
I am trying to set up my mail account for the first time and I'm getting a window that asks me to enter my password for stmp.mac.com:mavixxx. Below that there is a message that says the stmp server rejected the password for mavixxx. Then asks me to re-enter my password or cancel.
The problem is that I don't remember ever setting up a mail account in the past so there shouldn't be a password to enter yet. How do I get to square one?
    Thank you kindly in advance!

Mail stores most preferences and all account settings in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist (except the passwords, which are stored in the keychain). Everything else, including all your messages and mailboxes, is stored in ~/Library/Mail/.
Assuming there is nothing to be preserved there, quitting Mail and getting rid of those files would allow you to set up Mail from scratch. If you don’t have a .Mac account, but did set up one at some point in the past, however, you’ll also need to get rid of the corresponding .Mac account settings in System Preferences > .Mac before opening Mail again. Otherwise, Mail will try to automatically set up that mail account for you, which is what appears to be happening here.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • Can't set up mail account on iPOD

Can anyone tell me how to set up my email account on iPOD? I'm connected through cogeco cable and have an address ending in cogeco.ca
I have gone through settings and clicked add new account on my iPOD. It seems to recognize it. Under Incoming mail server it says pop.cogeco.ca. And under Outgoing Mail server it says smtp.cogeco.ca
When I save it, it comes back with the message: Cannot Connect Using SSL. Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?
    Now I'm stuck!
    Anybody save me?
    thanks...Kurt

Did you try setting it up "without SSL" ??
Go into Settings> Mail, Contacts, Calendars> Congeco account> Advanced> You can turn SSL on or off there if needed.
    Try both ways...
    Also look at Authentication.
Most say "Password" but you have other choices under Authentication.
Not sure how Congeco is supposed to be setup.

  • Can't set up mail account pop3

Hello, I'm trying to use the mac mail program but it will not let me set up an account. I'm trying to get my register.com mail and I don't have access to any selections from the drop-down menu. I've properly put in my information but I keep getting the same message that I cannot connect. When I used Entourage in the past, it worked just fine. What's up?
    Thanks for the help!

Your ISP, Time Warner, would provide you with both a free POP account, and a SMTP server, should you desire. In many cases, if you set up at least one POP account (but not necessarily use it for any emailing) with the ISP, you can then be allowed to use their SMTP to send with other addresses and accounts, all according to the protocols they have listed in any support documents. Some (a few) providers limit sending with their SMTP from addresses of their domain.
What type of account would TW provide -- a RoadRunner, perhaps? If so, then I would expect that SMTP to work with your register.com account. However, if register.com provides a SMTP, then you might be able to use it, but perhaps be required to present it on something other than Port 25.
With some cable providers, like Time Warner, the SMTP is authenticated from the IP address of the modem they provide, and no additional Username and Password would be needed on the Outgoing Server/SMTP, so it might not be required to even set up the POP with them.
    More info, please.

  • Set one mail account set to manual fetch, but now autofetches automatically

I have a iPhone 3GS and upgraded to OS 4 the other day. I have four email accounts on my phone. I have three set to autofetch every 15 minutes and the fourth account (which is email I use for spam and to sign up for stuff) is set to manually retrieve. I just don't want to be notified everytime I get some crap email. Wasn't a problem prior to the OS 4 update. It would check everytime i opened up the email app, but not otherwise.
I have the settings the same as before with other accounts set to fetch every 15 minutes and the account (a Yahoo acct) set to manual fetch only. I also make sure that the email app is closed (i.e. not running in the background as OS 4 allows.) Still, it seems to fetch like all the others and is incredibly annoying.
    Any fixes?

I am also having an issue with my iPhone 4 mail client.
Prior to upgrading to the 4 from my 3GS, the Mail app would only download new mail when prompted to manually (ie, on app launch or on manual check).
Currently, all settings indicate that mail is set to fetch only manually, yet is downloaded 100% of the time without prompting when launching any of the following apps:
    Yelp
    Phone
    iPod
It launches intermittently with any of the following apps (between 50% and 75% of the time):
    Facebook
    Photos
    Camera
    Tron
    Breakspin
    Wikipedia
    Messages
The mail app also randomly downloads intermittently, without any prompting from myself as a user.
I have checked, rechecked, and triplechecked the settings. Push is off, fetch is set to manual in all applicable locations, and I have rebooted and reset the phone. I've even gone so far as to restore from a backup, to no avail.
My accounts are checking from MobileMe and from a personal (non-Yahoo, non-AT&T) e-mail account.
This is, needless to say, most frustrating.
Apple, any chance of a bit of feedback, here?

  • Interesting note when setting up mail accounts

    Hi everyone
I must say, I've only had the iphone for 2 weeks and love it. I'm a long-time mac user, and finally got rid of my smart phone from work and replaced it with the iphone. It's the killer app, and does more than I ever imagined.
I just thought this info below on setting up email may be of interest to those having issues, as my experience may help.
Everything set up and sync'd great: mail, calendar, songs, etc...no problems, that is until configuring email. I have 3 different accounts 1) private roadrunner account via time warner, 2) work email, and 3) Google
    Google
Worked great, just followed the on-screen set up. Selected Google email, entered my user name and password, and all was AOK...sending and receiving.
    Work Email
Obviously I needed to get the outgoing server configuration to send emails. And I know the iphone and the mail app is not really at fault per se for some issues, as you need to get the right data for it to work...however, making the various attempts to change the settings (trial and error, trying different port settings, etc) seemed to change other settings. For example, when i changed the outgoing setttings in a specific account, then switched out from the setting function to the mail app, i found out latter that my incoming settings were 86'd for that same account. I went to re-enter them, over and over to no avail. Seems like the process for changing the incoming/outgoing settings affect one another.
bottom line, i finally was able to send work email, after completely leaving the outgoing area blank (yes, blank), then under advanced, plugging in 25 for the port. How this works is beyond me, but it's working.
    Roadrunner
First, same issues as above. But I had to search message boards for RR's outgoing server...it ended up being cwmx.com...but again, you have to leave the outgoing user name and password blank, then under advanced you set the port to 25. It works, and i'm not fu%king with it!
Hope your email set up goes better than mine.
    Cheers,
    Stephan

which preference files did you trash? did you trash homedirectory/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist? if have not set up any accounts then quit mail and try trashing this file. then start Mail and see if you can set up an account. if that does not help, create a new user account, log into it and try setting up Mail there.
