Setting up Monitor for Newspaper viewing

Hi,
I have a quato 213e series monitor which is properly calibrated. The problem that I am facing is as follows:
when I Proof Setup PS to view to ISOnewspaper26v4.icc standard, because paper white is not set, I see very bright colours, if I turn on the "Simulate Paper Color" Option the image looks more or less OK but the image looks very flat compared to the printed sample. am I doing any thing wrong here?
Just for information the images are already CMYK in ISOnewspaper26v4.icc color space and the test printed sample is very close to the ISOnewspaper standard, so thinking that either the image is not properly tagged or the printed sample is not good is not an option.
I have no problem with any other kind of images except newspaper images that too I presume is because of such huge difference in the paper white of the newsprint media.
Thanks
Tarun

Tarun,
ISO Newsprint 26v4 has a paper white (I hesitate to call it "white") of 85L, 1a, 5b, which is a very dull, yellowish-whitish gray.  The black point is 32L, 0a, 1b, which is a very weak black (more of a dark gray).  The dynamic range is pitiful on newsprint.  I know you are aware of all this.
Soft proofing super low dynamic range in Photoshop is not easy.  First, I would definitely check the "Paper White" box.  Hit the Tab key to hide all your palettes, make sure the white ruler is not displayed, and repeatedly hit the "F" key on your keyboard until you have the gray background showing, without any other photoshop elements (especially pure white and pure black elements).  Yes, it will still be washed out, but at least you won't be comparing your dingy soft proof to bright white and dark black components on the screen.  These will make the comparison look even worse.  I'd also turn the ambient room lighting down low and be sure you don't any bright lights or objects in your field of view. This will help a little.
The monitor black point and ambient viewing conditions are critical when viewing low dynamic range processes, and checking Black Ink or Paper White takes some getting used to.  I never find it truly accurate either. Your eye gets fooled easily by any brighter or darker elements so they should be avoided.  The higher the dynamic range and gamut of your final print, the better the soft proof appears.  The lower the gamut and dynamic range, the worse the match, at least in my experience.  You have to learn to interpret what you are seeing and what to expect on the printed page.
If you have verified that your inkjet simulation is a decent match to your output on newsprint, I'd rely on that as a guide.  And when simulating newsprint on your inkjet, use Relative Colorimetric with BPC OFF, or Absolute Colorimetric, otherwise you will remap blacks to the higher Dmax capability of your proofing paper, and they will be darker than newsprint can reach. I'd also use an uncoated, matte, dingy proofing paper if you have it.

  • Suggestions - Vertical Ruler or the ability to set horizontail guides for various view ports.

    The suggestion link seems to be broken so I am posting here in hopes someone will see it. Edge Reflow would benefit greatly from the addition of a vertical ruler. Unless this is a view aready that I am somehow missing. Also it would be cool to be able to set a horizontal guides in the canvas grid (DOM). This would help in allowing the user set a guide for multiple viewing areas.
    And the pie in the sky, Santa Claus Christmas list of all request would be the ability to "blend" break points. It would be cool to set a 2000px view and a bookend break-point at 1024px, work both compositions to the desired look and have a "blend tool" that scales all the elements to the desired look form 2000px to 1024px.

    Hi Bobby, thanks for the suggestions!

  • Setting font size for code view

    On my 19" desktop monitor the text size in code view is easy enough to read, but on my hi resolution 17" laptop it is really, really tiny. I can't find any prefs setting or another way to make the font for code view larger. Is there such a setting somewhere? (Yes, I can change the resolution settings for the laptop but this is not preferable because the screen is blurry at anything other than the native 1920 x 1200 pixels.) Thanks.

    Play around with the preferences shown above to see what works for you.  I changed mine recently to use Consalas font and it's much better than the default  :-)

  • Setting bind variable for a view object from the Managed Bean

    Hi,
    i am using JDeveloper 11g, i have to create LOV in the JSF. To show the LOV, it has to populate data using View object and its query parameter need to be sent from the Managed Bean.
    For the View object i want to set the bind variable parameter from the managed bean value. bename is stored in a managed bean (session scope)
    #{beantest.bename}
    But it gives the following exception.
    JBO-29000: Unexpected exception caught:
    org.codehaus.groovy.control.MultipleCompilationErrorsException,msg=startup failed, Script1.groovy: 1: expecting '!',found '{'@ line1, column 2.
    I have followed the link http://kr.forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=615474 like Frank wrote on 8.2.2008:
    But steps are not clear.
    How to input the VO bind parameter with Managed bean variable?
    Any Help

    Hi,
    a bind variable in a VO needs to be exposed as an executeWithParams operation in the pageDef file. Just add a new action binding to the pageDef file (context menu) and select the executeWithParams operation on teh VO. Then in the argument field, reference the managed bean property for the value

  • How to set the font for table view contol

    Dear All,
    My requirement is to set Font type = Arial and size=1 for
    Table View control. The same font should be for  header, Rows and footer.
    One way we are achieving it through the Renderer class. Where in we are we are supplying data, colums with html font tags.
    Is there any simple way to fix font fot the entire TableView.
    Thanks
    Markandeya

    An approach I've used is to override the CSS styles by adding code like the following to the top of the JSP page.  It's a bit of a hack, but it did the job.  You will need to find ALL the styles used in a table view, and override the font size.
    <%-- OVERRIDE SOME CSS STYLES SO WE HAVE THE DESIRED TABLE CELL PADDING --%>
    <style>
    <!--
    .sapTbvCellStd {
         PADDING-RIGHT: 2px; PADDING-LEFT: 2px; PADDING-BOTTOM: 0px; PADDING-TOP: 0px
    .sapTbvCellAlt {
         PADDING-RIGHT: 2px; PADDING-LEFT: 2px; PADDING-BOTTOM: 0px; PADDING-TOP: 0px
    //-->
    </style>

  • How to set page break for Narrative view???

    Hi All,
    I have created a report in Narrative view using HTML code. I am stuck how to set page break based on a column in Narrative view. If anybody is aware of the issue pls let me know how to overcome this situation. Or if this can be done using HTML code itself pls let me know how to do it.

    Hi Honey,
    I am not sure on ur requirement but you can achieve page break with a column using pivot view by dragging that column into section area and editing section properties to Insert Page break option.

  • Setting up prefs for code view fonts and sizes

    using cs5
    i copied some pages in from another computer... the fonts and sizes in code view are too small.
    in prefs - fonts - I made them bigger - then said apply source formatting
    but they don't always seem to stick - maybe the next day they are small again
    Q: how do I get font pref settings to work for all sites all the time?
    thanks in advance - dave

    Such settings are not carried in from external pages, they are part of your preferences.  In other words, opening a page could not change your existing preferences.

  • View link accessor for master view object with bind variables

    Is there a way to set bind variables for a view object to which a view link accessor is used to retrieve a view row from a detail view row in a master-detail relationship ?
    I understand that RowSet (or Row) returned by a view link accessor originates from an "internally created" view object instance.
    I am using 10.1.3.0.4 JDeveloper.

    Thanks! that's right the bind variables when i use it on where clause must be required, so i change my sql to:
    Select /*+ use_nl(p p2) */
    'F' tipo_persona,
    p.ID_PERSONA, p.TDOC, p.NDOC, p.DENO
    From SINT_PERSONA p,
    ( Select /*+ index(a SINT_PERSONA_IX2) */
    a.ID_PERSONA
    From SINT_PERSONA_DOCUMENTO a
    where ( NDOC = :p_cuit
    and :p_cuit <> 0 )
    ) p2
    Where p.id_persona = p2.id_persona
    AND (deno = decode(:p_deno,'null',null,upper(:p_deno)) or
    :p_deno = 'null')
    AND (NDOC = decode(:p_ndoc,0,null,:p_ndoc) or
    :p_ndoc = 0)
    and grado_confiab > 0
    and my bind variables:
    p_ndoc required default value 0
    p_cuit required default value 0
    p_deno required default value null
    and works ok!
    thanks a lot !!!!

    Hi Sunil,
    Thanks for your reply. I check the Note:408527 but what worries me is this section in the note
    Note 3:
    If the MONITORING attribute is used, BR986W warnings referring to fragmented indexes are no longer displayed. As a result, this means of
    determining fragmented indexes is no longer available
    so what about if that index get fragmented. ?

  • Can an iPad be used as an external monitor for DSLR video?

    I am looking at purchasing an external monitor for my DSLR to assist with shooting video.
    If I was to purchase an iPad, would I be able to connect it as an external monitor for live view while shooting video?

    No.

  • How do I set-up my TV as a dual monitor for my MacBook Pro?

    Hi
    I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro running (OS X 10.8.2) Mountain Lion, and recently I rearranged my home workspace so that I can view my TV from my desk while I work.
    I would like to set-up my TV as a dual monitor for my MacBook Pro, so I can stream videos on my TV screen and have the whole screen to do work on my MacBook Pro at the same time.
    Is this possible? I've seen people use TVs as a mirror display (where it works as their main and only monitor), but never as a fully operational dual display.
    As an example, I would like to have my MacBook screen showing a desktop with the whole screen devoted to Photoshop, while I have another desktop running on my TV, which shows an internet browser or other application.
    If this is possible, what cords/hardware would I need, and what are the settings that will enable me to do this?
    - My TV is a modern flatscreen LCD, and it has two HDMI ports in the back.
    - It's about 9-10 feet from my desk.
    If anyone could help, that'd be awesome!
    Thanks.

    Yes, you can do that.
    You'll need a mini displayport to HDMI adaptor:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A/moshi-mini-dp-to-hdmi-adapter-with-a udio-support
    and an HDMI cable long enough to reach your TV
    (look on Amazon or Monoprice for the best price on any of those parts)
    In your display options, you will just choose extended desktop vs mirrored display.

  • Setting the resolution for external monitor

    Hello all,
    I just purchased a ViewSonic vx2025wm 20.1" external monitor for my PowerBook G4 1.5Ghz 12". I've scoured the discussions regarding my question, but couldn't seem to find it. So I'll post it here...
    I've successly connected the ViewSonic to my PB and the image seems to display fine in "spanning" mode (ie images span over two screens). However, when I try to "mirror" (ie have the same view show on both screens) the external monitor displays a 1024x768 resolution (the PB displays this as well, but that is the optimal resolution for the 12"). My question is this: how can I mirror while having each screen display its optimal resolution (the optimal resolutions would be 1680x1050 for the External monitor, and 1024x768 for the PB).
    Thanks in advance for any wisdom on this!
    PowerBook G4 1.5 Ghz 12 inch   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1.25 Gig RAM

    Thanks for the quick response -- and one follow-up question. Will turning mirror off (which, if I understand correctly, will place the displays in spanning mode) cause a strain on my PB? Since the PB will be supporting the displays of both the external monitor plus its own display. Does that make sense? I actually read something related to this in these discussions which is why I brought it up. I will try to locate that discussion and place a link in this thread so I can better explain.

  • I'm trying to set up a dual monitor for my new iMac. I'm using a second display I used with my old G5. My iMac recognizes the second monitor but the monitor won't turn on. Power button doesn't do anything on the monitor itself.

    I'm trying to set up a dual monitor for my new iMac. I'm using a second display I used with my old G5. My iMac recognizes the second monitor but the monitor won't turn on. Power button doesn't do anything on the monitor itself.

    If it won't turn on then the monitor is dead (power supply?, video circuits?).  Not worth repairing.
    If you have a new iMac then it has thunderbolt.  So exactly what is that monitor you are trying to connect?  For TB you can connect a mini-displayport monitor.   Probably (not 100% sure with TB) can use dvi or vga too if you have the appropriate adapter.

  • Setting Up Rectangular, for example 16:9 with different subdivisions, Grid (View Show Grid)

    The Grid tool (View > Show Grid) is a huge help when designing. Unfortunately, by default AI allows us to specify only square grids, i.e. you set one parameter for gridline spacing (and one for its subdivisions) and AI creates square grid applying your value for both: horizontal and vertical directions. But what if we need something more, for example 16:9 proportion grid (subdivided into 4 parts in horizontal direction and 3 in vertical)? Hmm…. actually… we can do this! We can even set different colors for the main and subdivision lines:

    Found something on this! The rectangular grid with different vertical and horizontal subdivision values can be set!!! We can even set different colors for the main and subdivision lines. I've tested this under Mac (CS6 and CC) and Windows x86 and x64 (CS6, CC). I've posted a short articale on this:
