Setting up multi-tier SharePoint 2013

Hello Friends,
I would like to set-up multi-tier farm on my VM. I have installed 2 Windows server partitions. Requirement is to set-up SQL server on 1st VM and 2nd VM will act as App server and WFE.
I'm new to this installation stuff, so can you all guide me how to proceed further regarding services to be activated and connecting SQL on 1st VM with CA on 2nd VM

  • Reporting services in three tier SharePoint 2013 environment

    Hi,
    I am trying to integrate SQL Server 2012SP1 Reporting Services in a three tier SharePoint 2013 environment, but it seems it is not succesful.
    The setup is as following:
    SRV1: SQL Server with content, config,... and the Reporting Service databases.
    SRV2: SharePoint 2013 Application server & Central Administration
    SRV3: SharePoint Web Front with SharePoint sites
    All application pools are started with domain accounts on SRV2 & 3
    When opening the Central Administration site, the Reporting Services Service Application and its Proxy is created and configured. On SRV2 the Application exists in the application pool in IIS, but it does not appear in the SRV3. Should it be created manualluy?
    In Central Administration, when opening the site settings the Reporting Services section is created, but when opening the Site Settings for the root site the section shows variables:
    $Resources:ReportServerResources,ReportServerSiteSettingsGroupTitle;
    $Resources:ReportServerResources,ScheduleList;
    $Resources:ReportServerResources,SiteLevelSettings;
    $Resources:ReportServerResources,ManageSiteDataAlerts;
    I believe i need some help here.
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    J

    Hi J-S,
    Generally, the issue occurs if you are in the Windows Powershell instead of the SharePoint Management Shell or the Reporting Services - SharePoint mode feature is not installed. So, please double check you are using the SharePoint Management Shell or install
    the Add-in by installing the rssharepoint.msi instead. Here is the download link:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35583
    If it is not the issue, please install the Reporting Services - SharePoint mode from the SQL Server 2012 installation media.

  • Setting up SMTPSendGrid for SharePoint 2013

    I have set up a SharePoint 2013 VM in Windows Azure and would like to know how to configure my SharePoint server installation to send e-mails using SMTPSendGrid since SMTPSendGrid requires authentication credentials and SharePoint does not support providing
    authenticated credentials for sending outgoing e-mail messages.
    I read something about configuring the SMTP Send E-mail settings in IIS 7 and above but I am not sure if it is sufficient to configure those settings in order to get the e-mails to send out correctly.
    Please advise.
    Thanks.

    Correct, you would need to install IIS SMTP, configure SharePoint to send to that, the configure IIS SMTP to relay to SendGrid. This is similar to

  • Install Web Part Using Set up file for Sharepoint 2013

    HI,
        How to install web part to sharepoint 2013 using a setup wizard.
    Suppose i have webpart for some data manipulation process so i need to make a set up for install this web part in any sharepoint system is it possible , programmatically install web part is possible any one have code regarding this or can you suggest me how
    to do this ?
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi Sujilkumar,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to install web part wsp using install wizard.
    In SharePoint, there is no set up wizard to install the web part. If you want to install your custom web part, you can use PowerShell Commands. Before you can deploy a solution package, you need to add it to the solution database of a SharePoint
    Server farm like below:
    add-spsolution c:\yourwsp.wsp
    Then you can install the solution like below:
    Install-SPSolution -Identity <SolutionName> -WebApplication <URLname>

  • Set up HA in SharePoint 2013 with NLB

    Hi All,
    We have 2 database servers in cluster and 2 application servers in a single SharePoint farm.
    We need to configure HA along with NLB for SharePoint 2013 in our environment.
    Please help.. !!

    First off, you need to decide what your recovery objectives are for HA so you'll know which technology to use. For the database side, you mentioned 2 database servers in a cluster. Is this configured as a 2-node SQL Server failover clustered instance or
    an Availability group with 2 replicas? These 2 configurations meet your HA requirement but are implemented differently with SharePoint accessing them differently. For the SharePoint web and application servers, you can use a software NLB like Windows NLB or
    a hardware NLB like Cisco or F5. You simply add servers to the farm and move service applications and roles around those servers. This really depends on what service applications you want to run and what your goals are

  • Automatically Setting the Masterpage in Sharepoint 2013

    I am trying to install our custom masterpage (and supporting files) as a feature which would automatically turn on and set the default masterpage to our custom one.
    When deploying in VS2012, it works fine. The feature is installed & activated at the site collection level and the default masterpage is successfully changed.
    But when I publish the solution and install the WSP via Solution Management in Central Administration, it doesn't work. The feature gets installed & activated at the site collection level BUT it doesn't set the masterpage to our default.
    If i then turn the feature off and back on again the default masterpage is correctly set to our custom masterpage.
    Our requirement is to have everything done automatically so having not having to turn the feature off and back on is something we need.
    I'd appreciate any tips or help to get this working.

    foreach (SPWeb site in siteCollection.AllWebs)
    site.MasterUrl = webAppRelativePath + "_catalogs/masterpage/seattle.master";
    site.CustomMasterUrl = webAppRelativePath + "_catalogs/masterpage/seattle.master";
    site.SiteLogoUrl = string.Empty;
    site.Update();

    The question was answered in another forum,..
    Second, your code fails because it assumes that the feature activation happens while on a particular SharePoint web site:
    SPSite site = properties.Feature.Parent as SPSite;
    If activating via PowerShell you will not get a valid SPSite object via the code above, while it works just fine if running via a Web browser UI on the site collection feature page.
    Disabling the auto-activation and run the corresponding PowerShell code to activate the feature once the WSP has been installed and deployed should fix your problem.
    Do this worked like a charm.

  • Sharepoint 2013 and ADFS 3.0 Multi-Tenancy Problems

    Hi
    I am hoping someone might be able to help with my scenario.
    Architectural Overview:
    We have a 3-Tier Sharepoint 2013 deployed. In this infrastructure we have the following Servers (1x ADFS server, 1x TMG Proxy for External Access, 2x Web Front-End servers, 1x Application Server, 2x SQL Servers with P2P replication
    On sharepoint we have a multi-tenant setup based on HSNC i.e. with AD integration on domain example.com. We also integrate with a 3rd Party myexample.com which we have ADFS connected to
    site1.example.com
    site2.exmaple.com
    For both of the sites we have configured the required application and run as per requirements of ADFS 3.0.
    ADFSserver -> server1.example.com
    DefaultRealm -> urn:sharepoint:site
    site1.example.com -> "https://site1.example.com/_trust/", urn:sharepoint:site1
    with default login page specified /_trust/default.aspx
    site2.example.com -> "https://site2.example.com/_trust/", urn:sharepoint:site2
    with default login page specified /_trust/default.aspx
    On ADFS 3.0 we have realm trusts corresponding to this i.e.
    Trust 1:
    identifier -> "https://site1.example.com/_trust/" , urn:sharepoint:site1
    Endpoint -> "https://site1.example.com/_trust/Pages/Default.aspx
    Trust 2:
    identifier -> "https://site2.example.com/_trust/", urn:sharepoint:site2
    Endpoint -> "https://site2.example.com/_trust/Pages/Default.aspx, urn:sharepoint:site2
    The Problem:
    When accessing the sites from the client browser to test (using Chrome Incognito mode so cookies terminates at close of browser session), I get weird stuff happening on ADFS and Sharepoint. I try site1.example.com and it fails stating that urn:sharepoint:site1
    is not a recognised realm. When looking at the URL request sent to ADFS I can see irrespective of urn set on sharepoint to differentiate, it sends the default urn of urn:sharepoint:site which is not part of the Relay Party Trust in ADFS for site1 or site2.
    This causes the SAML authentication to fail. When I add the default Realm to one of the Trusts then it works fine but then It is not a true multi-tenant environment as requests for both sites gets redirected to a single ADFS endpoint

    Did you set the ProviderRealms on the Trusted Identity Token Issuer?

  • How to join a Domain Controller Server to an two-tier (SQL Server 2012) and Sharepoint 2013 (SP2013) farm

    Hi,
    I am trying to build a 3-tier SharePoint 2013 farm.
    1. SQL Server 2012, Windows 2012 VM
    2. DC Server, Windows 2012 VM
    3. SharePoint 2013, Windows 2012 VM
    I didn't built the DC server. Someone else did. However, I created about 14 service domain user accounts for SQL Server and SharePoint install and operation.
    I was able to join the SQL Server into the SharePoint server farm using SharePoint 2013 Product Configuration Wizard.  When I start the Central Admin, and click on Servers in the Farm, I only see the SharePoint server and SQL server,
    but the DC server is not listed.  Any suggestion on what did I miss?
    Thanks
    Jean

    You cannot join the Domain Controller to your SharePoint farm.  You must instead join each server from that farm to the domain that is served up by that DC.  You will want to uninstall SharePoint and probably SQL before you do this.  If it's
    an option, I would re-provision your VMs completely and start fresh.  Once you login to a new server, join that server to the target domain like this:
    http://www.petri.co.il/join-windows-server-2012-to-domain.htm
    You'd have to ensure that your DNS resolves to the target domain on the server being joined to the domain.  If it doesn't, you can always use HOSTS entries to overcome that in the short term.
    Once you've joined both the future SQL and SharePoint servers to the domain, you can install SQL Server and then SharePoint on their prospective servers to create your farm.
    I trust that answers your question...
    Thanks
    C

  • Problem with SQL Server Reporting Services 2012 SP1 (SSRS) and SharePoint 2013 in a Multi-tenanted environment

    Hi All,
    I'm working on what appears to be a permissions issue with SSRS in a multi-tenented SharePoint 2013 environment.
    As part of my troubleshooting I've ignored the multitenented web application for the time being and stood up a dedicated web application with it's own host header called reporting.<domain>.local. I've created a site collection and added a Doc Library
    called Reporting.. And then the content types, made sure the features are up and everything tests ok. I mention this because it's not that I can't get this working.. I can't get this working in a Web Application configured for multi-tenancy running Host Named
    Site Collections.
    When I try redoing the above on a Tenant site I get the following:
    Sorry, something went wrong The permissions granted to user '<domain>\bprice' are insufficient for performing this operation. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: The permissions granted to user '<DOMAIN>\bprice'
    are insufficient for performing this operation.
    Correlation ID: 7f23ef9c-4b6a-7007-7e6f-0b32c731f7ed
    The problem here is that my account is a sysadmin in SQL, a local admin on all servers, a domain admin in AD and finally a Farm Admin in SharePoint. Access denied on my account is crazy. So it's unlikely to be perms in the traditional sence, more likely a denial
    by implication (as though I have not been granted access to something)
    When filtering the ULS Logs for that correlation ID I see the following log entries:
    WcfReceiveRequest: LocalAddress: 'http://homsssrs001. <domain>.local:32843/04560e49d2664b64bc12d9ce7bc9f885/ReportingWebService.svc' Channel: 'System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannel' Action: 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2011/06/01/ReportServer/Management/GetDataSourceContents'

    Cannot find site lookup info for request Uri http://homsssrs001:32843/04560e49d2664b64bc12d9ce7bc9f885/ReportingWebService.svc.
    Call to GetDataSourceContentsAction(https://shared.<domain>.local/sites/bf/Reporting/terst1.rsds).
    The current site is not in the SiteSubscription of the context site. SiteSubscriptionId: for current site = 96a49a95-8256-4585-9627-98206351efe3, for context site =
    Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: , Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: The permissions granted to user '<DOMAIN>\bprice' are insufficient for performing this operation.;
    A quick google on what I consider the most important of the above log errors (#5 mentioning Sitesubscription of the context site) returns:
    http://thesharepointfarm.com/2014/10/reporting-services-feature-pack/
    We aren't using feature packs at the moment. As far as I understand it all features are available to all subscriptions.
    Has anyone seen this issue? Can anyone point in the correct direction? There must be a config that's specific to SSRS and Multi-tenancy that I've overlooked but I genuinely can't get to the bottom of this.
    Kind Regards & Many Thanks
    Brett

  • SharePoint 2013 - Document Set Capture Version History. Does each version captured for each document set keep a copy of all the document stored in the document set?

    Hi All,
    We have currently encountered an issue where even though version control is turned on in a document library, changes made to the metadata of a document set is not tracked in a version history.
    We have found that in order to this a user will need to manually click on the capture version history button.
    With this in mind, we are concerned about the impact of this on our storage. The question we have been trying to answer is whether each document set version:
    stores the change in metadata of the document set and a copy of all the documents stored in the document set
    stores the change in metadata of the document set and a reference to the documents stored in the document set (making use of SharePoint 2013's shredded storage)
    The reason we ask this is that if a document set version stores a copy of all the document stored in a document set, a change in one of the fields in the document set could result in the storage used to grow exponentially. e.g. if the document set contains
    documents totaling 30MB, and if we have 10 versions of the document set, we could take up 300 MB in the content database for just one document set.
    We have tried to some searching around Google but wasn't able to find any answers around this question. Would appreciate some assistance from anyone who has knowledge around how document set version history works.
    Thanks in advance.
    John

    i had a long thing written out, but submit failed.  suffice to say it does "2".  it only stores the changes with pointers to the documents.

  • NLB for SharePoint 2013 farm ?

    Hello All,
    I have a very simple three-tier SharePoint 2013 farm which its architecture consists of: (1 DB Server, 1 Application Server, and 1 Web Front-End Server) which all are running on Windows Server 2008 R2.
    I now need to add another (Second) Web Front End server.
    Steps that I know:
    A) Following the installation instructions on: (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc261752(v=office.15).aspx), especially: Connect to a server farm page: Connect to an existing server farm.
    B) Question-1: After completing the installation steps, Should I run the SharePoint 2013 Products Configuration Wizard on the Application server (The server that hosts Central Administration)? Or, No need to do so?
    After that, I will have 2 Web Front-End servers, and I will need to configure load balancing. I found some articles to set up load balancing on a SharePoint farm using the OOTB Windows Server network load balancing (NLB) feature.
    Question-2: Is this adequate and powerful enough? Or, Do you recommend any other third NLB solutions (Reasonable price)?
    Thank you !

    You do not need to run the Config Wizard on the App server. Windows NLB isn't great. It doesn't know about service status (e.g. if IIS is up or not), but it will 'do the job' for a few hundred to low thousands of users. Load balancer appliances are not
    necessarily cheap, but BigIP products are popular.

  • SharePoint 2013 Search - Disaster Recovery Restore

    Hello,
    We are setting up a new SharePoint 2013 with a separate Disaster Recovery farm as a hot-standby.  In a DR scenario, we want to restore all content and service app databases to the new farm, then fix any configuration issues that might arise due to changes
    in server names, etc...
    The issue we're running into is the search service components are still pointing to the production servers even though they're in the new farm with completely different server names.  This is expected, so we're preparing a PowerShell script to remove
    then re-create the search components as needed.  The problem is that all the commands used to apply the new search topology won't function because they can't access the administration component (very frustrating).  It appears we're in a chicken &
    egg scenario - we can't change the search topology because we don't have a working admin component, but we can't fix the admin component because we can't change the search topology.
    The scripts below are just some of the things we've tried to fix the issue:
    $sa = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication "Search Service Application";
    $local = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceInstance -Local;
    $topology = New-SPEnterpriseSearchTopology -SearchApplication $sa;
    New-SPEnterpriseSearchAdminComponent -SearchTopology $topology -SearchServiceInstance $local;
    New-SPEnterpriseSearchQueryProcessingComponent -SearchTopology $topology -SearchServiceInstance $local;
    New-SPEnterpriseSearchCrawlComponent -SearchTopology $topology -SearchServiceInstance $local;
    New-SPEnterpriseSearchContentProcessingComponent -SearchTopology $topology -SearchServiceInstance $local;
    New-SPEnterpriseSearchAnalyticsProcessingComponent -SearchTopology $topology -SearchServiceInstance $local;
    New-SPEnterpriseSearchIndexComponent -SearchTopology $topology -SearchServiceInstance $local -IndexPartition 0 -RootDirectory "D:\SP_Index\Index";
    $topology.Activate();
    We get this message:
    Exception calling "Activate" with "0" argument(s): "The search service is not able to connect to the machine that
    hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component '764c17a1-4c29-4393-aacc-de01119aba0a'
    in search application 'Search Service Application' is in a good state and try again."

    + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        + CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (:) [], MethodInvocationException
        + FullyQualifiedErrorId : InvalidOperationException
    Also, same as above with
    $topology.BeginActivate()
    We get no errors but the new topology is never activated.  Attempting to call $topology.Activate() within the next few minutes will result in an error saying that "No modifications to the search topology can be made because previous changes are
    being rolled back due to an error during a previous activation".
    Next I found a few methods in the object model that looked like they might do some good:
    $sa = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication "Search Service Application";
    $topology = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchTopology -SearchApplication $sa -Active;
    $admin = $topology.GetComponents() | ? { $_.Name -like "admin*" }
    $topology.RecoverAdminComponent($admin,"server1");
    This one really looked like it worked.  It took a few seconds to run and came back with no errors.  I can even get the active list of components and it shows that the Admin component is running on the right server:
    Name ServerName
    AdminComponent1 server1
    ContentProcessingComponent1
    QueryProcessingComponent1
    IndexComponent1
    QueryProcessingComponent3
    CrawlComponent0
    QueryProcessingComponent2
    IndexComponent2
    AnalyticsProcessingComponent1
    IndexComponent3
    However, I'm still unable to make further changes to the topology (getting the same error as above when calling $topology.Activate()), and the service application in central administration shows an error saying it can't connect to the admin component:
    The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component '764c17a1-4c29-4393-aacc-de01119aba0a' in search application 'Search Service Application' is in a good state and try again.
    Lastly, I tried to move the admin component directly:
    $sa.AdminComponent.Move($instance, "d:\sp_index")
    But again I get an error:
    Exception calling "Move" with "2" argument(s): "Admin component was moved to another server."
    At line:1 char:1
    + $sa.AdminComponent.Move($instance, "d:\sp_index")
    + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        + CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (:) [], MethodInvocationException
        + FullyQualifiedErrorId : OperationCanceledException
    I've checked all the most common issues - the service instance is online, the search host controller service is running on the machine, etc...  but I can't seem to get this database restored to a different farm.
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks for the response Bhavik,
    I did ensure the instance was started:
    Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceInstance -Local
    TypeName : SharePoint Server Search
    Description : Index content and serve search queries
    Id : e9fd15e5-839a-40bf-9607-6e1779e4d22c
    Server : SPServer Name=ROYALS
    Service : SearchService Name=OSearch15
    Role : None
    Status : Online
    But after attempting to set the admin component I got the results below.
    Before setting the admin component:
    Get-SPEnterpriseSearchAdministrationComponent -SearchApplication $sa
    IndexLocation : E:\sp_index\Office Server\Applications
    Initialized : True
    ServerName : prodServer1
    Standalone :
    After setting the admin component:
    Get-SPEnterpriseSearchAdministrationComponent -SearchApplication $sa
    IndexLocation :
    Initialized : False
    ServerName :
    Standalone :
    It's shown this status for a few hours now so I don't believe it's still provisioning.  Also, the search service administration is still showing the same error:
    The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration
    component '764c17a1-4c29-4393-aacc-de01119aba0a' in search application 'Search Service Application' is in a good state and try again.

  • Requested registry access is not allowed when opening Infopath Forms on Sharepoint 2013

    Hello Technet Community.
    I hope this will help anybody out there that experienced this problem after patching Sharepoint 2013.
    I have a distributed 3-tier Sharepoint 2013 environment. All of a sudden, after the last round of patched released on 7-Jul-2014, opening Infopath forms would throw a "something went wrong" error.
    Looking at the ULS logs, you would see the error "Requested registry access is not allowed.".
    I have looked at tons of posts on different blogs, and all pointed out that you need to grant "read" permissions to the application pool user (in my case a service account in AD) to the registry key (and subkeys):
    HLKM/Software/Office Server/15.0
    That indeed works, but it is not the proper way to do it. You should grant "read" permissions to this local group:
    WSS_WPG
    And special permissions to this local group:
    WSS_ADMIN_WPG
    Here is a snapshot of the special permissions needed
    By the way, the WSS_PWG local group contains the app pool service account.
    I do not know why patching Sharepoint removed these permissions from the registry keys, but oh well...
    Anyway, Sharepoint is now happy and Infopath forms work as expected.

    Check if your service account or infopath service account has access to server and specially registry
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/spsforum/archive/2011/11/02/quick-solution-5-requested-registry-access-is-not-allowed.aspx
    To solve the issue, please follow these steps:
    Use the Process Monitor to monitor the registry, once you get the following ACCESS DENIED message(You can filter the result with “Result contains Access Denied”):
    Date & Time:      <date time>
    Event Class:        Registry
    Operation: RegOpenKey
    Result:  ACCESS DENIED
    Path:     HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office Server\14.0
    TID:        2020
    Duration:             0.0000297
    Desired Access:                Read
    Open Registry Editor (Start > Run, type regedit)
    Open key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office Server\14.0(got from Process Monitor from step 1)
    Assign the SharePoint Timer Service account the Read permission to this key
    One can open registry using regedit command. In Registery editor go to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\15\Secure\FarmAdmin
    Check central  administration app pool Identity  have permission on FarmAdmin. Permission can be check on right clicking FarmAdmin --> Permissions.

  • Sharepoint 2013 - Site Settings shows $Resources:ReportServerResources,ReportServerSiteSettingsGroupTitle;

    I didn't notice this before, but I have 2 site collections, one shows this when I go to Site Settings:
    $Resources:ReportServerResources,ReportServerSiteSettingsGroupTitle;
    $Resources:ReportServerResources,ScheduleList;
    $Resources:ReportServerResources,SiteLevelSettings;
    $Resources:ReportServerResources,ManageSiteDataAlerts;
    and the other one doesn't.
    Thise are hyperlinked and when I click on the links I get an error "Something Went Wrong".
    The one that is showing this in Site Settings also has the Features Activated:
    $Resources:ReportServerResources,FeatureTitle;
    $Resources:ReportServerResources,FeatureDescription;
    and
    $Resources:ReportServerResources,RSAdHocReportDesignerFeatureTitle;
    $Resources:ReportServerResources,RSAdHocReportDesignerDescription;
    I've seen another person ask this question, but doesn't explain why the Site Collection Feature also looks like that, it doesn't look like it should be that way.
    The Reporting Service was setup previously and it really hasn't been utilized yet. I don't remember seeing it before. Could something have gotten corrupted?
    Thanks

    Hi Kim,
    If the issue site, is there custom site feature or the issue site is created based on custom site template? If so, then try disabling the custom site feature and test the issue again.
    If it doesn't solve the case, then the issue might be related to Reporting Services. I'd suggest you find error message related to it. Or if RS is not utilized yet, you could uninstall it. Then re-install it if necessary.
