Setting up my Interface in Logic Express (HELP!)

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if someone could maybe help me out a little?
ive got a Macbook pro and recently brought Logic 9 express for it, i also have a Lexicon Alpha interface (http://www.musiciansbuy.com/mmMBCOM/Images/lexiconalphadw.jpg) i have a M Audio Axion 25 Midi controller which i understand has a built in interface so this shouldnt need to run off an external interface.. anyway...
heres my problem, ive only just got Logic 9 and so i havent got much idea on alot of it yet, but last night i plugged in my interface via USB to my Mac, loaded up Logic. Plugged in my guitar input to the interface, created a new project and i have no idea where im going from there? Logic does recognise i have a interface but i cant get any sound, please someone tell me where im going wrong and what i need to do to.
Help will be much appreciated
Thanks alot
Lee

There are no silly questions in the Logic Express forum (don't you try this in the Logic pro forum )
LOL
However, you'll need a real audio track, no MIDI track. Use the "instrument" or "audio" track, because the "software instrument" and the "external MIDI" tracks are MIDI only, which means they only handle MIDI data (and in the case of the "software instrument" track, it converts this MIDI data by using a instrument plugin into hearable audio).

  • Interfacing Problems Logic Express 8 - Prism Sound Orpheus

    Dear All,
I am having some interfacing troubles between Logic Epress 8.0.2 and Prism Sound Orpheus Firewire interface everytime I am using a sample frequency other than 44,1 KHz.
I have to say that in the past (with my Edirol Fireface FA-66, I was already able to record at 192 KHz, but since some month (also trying with the FA-66), I am getting this message:
"Error while trying to syncronize Audio and MIDI. Sample rate 44100 recognized. Check conflict between Logic Express and external device (Actually, I am not doing anything at MIDI level, since I am just doing acoustic recordings of myself as baritone and my friend pianist.
So, maybe, I have modified unconsciously somewhere and due to my inexperience, I am not able to understand where…
What I do in Logic is: "File" > "Project Settings" > "Audio" and in "Sample Rate" I chose, for example "96000".
After having armed the tracks I push the record button and just after a few seconds the process blocks and above message appears.
There is an article on the support page of Logic, but, I as it seems either it does not work in my case or I am not able to make it work…
Could you be so kind to help me?
    Many thanks in advance
    Marco

I reply to both Caramby and John Alcock.
Thank you again for your support and assistance.
    To John Alcock:
    1) What is your I/O buffer size set to in Logic? > 512
    2) Is ADAT set to 'none' in the Orpheus Control Panel > Yes (beautiful interface, BTW! > I also like it very much, thank you)
    3) What else is connected to your firewire bus? > Nothing else
    4) Did this problem appear at the same time as upgrading to 10.5.6? > Beautiful question: it could be. The problem is that I do not know what version I had when I bought the Mac (December 2007)... I looked on the backup copy of the CD-ROM but just "10.5" is mentioned.
In any case I would like to stress that in the past with my Edirol I was able to record with Logic at 192KHz and then since various months (maybe also a year, in the meantime), I am no longer able to do this (now only at 44.1 Khz). Do you think this depends on Mac OSX 10.5.6? But why can I record with Audacity at 96KHz NOW and I cannot do the same with Logic?
    To Caramby:
In the meantime I also contacted Prism Sound. They are informed of the problem and will analyze also my system profiler, which I sent today. I think in the next days I should get a reply from them.
Any advice and comment is most welcome! Thank you again for your patience!

  • Audio Interfaces With Logic Express.

    Hi,
I'm new to the Mac world, I've just bought one of the 20" iMac's with duo processors. I want to run Logic Express and eventually move up to Logic.
I come from PC back ground, I run I use a Behringer UB1202FX mixer, Tannoy Reveal Passive Monitors, Oxygen 8 MIDI keyboard and Cambridge Audio A1 MK3 integrated amp. plugged into a 24 bit /96khz soundcard.
I know I've to get a external audio interface to get 24 bit sound and to allow me to plug in my external equipment. Does anyone have recommendations? I looking for something around £300 maximum (not sure what that is in $)
    Thanks.

  • Logic Express - Help

    Hello All --
I'm having a bit of an oddity and am looking to see what information that anyone can give me.
    My configuration is simple -
Mic thru cable into Alesis multimix 12 - To this point I get a great signal and all is working as I think it should be.
Multimix out thru firewire into Mac G4 dual processor (1.25 GHz I believe w/ 1GB RAM and too much HD OS X.4.8) using Logic Express 7.2 as audio software - what reads as "0" on the multimix is -22/-244 as received by the software - basically my signal *****.
Tried using Garage Band instead - still el sucko
Tried using Steinberg Cubase LE - still el sucko
So my question is - anyone have any idea what is killing the signal? I know this is digital audio and a little different than analog - but this just seems wrong in so many ways.
I've tried many different Firewire cables and have even tried a different computer - still no levels - what gives?
    Greg
    many Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi aalkemist,
Then, pehaps, your signal needs to be amplified a little more before, reaching Logic. On the Alesis, can you turn it up more on the input? Without going over of course.
Some meters in the "real world" reflect different dB readings. I won't go inot details on that,as the vultures might descend on this...
Suffice to say, that I have one good example of hardware VS software meters.
I own a focusrite trak master preamp. The older one with LED output meter.
It is calibrated so that when the LED meter reads -18dB,I get approximately -8 dBFS on the Logic meters. dBFS means "decibels full scale" and there is no going over 0 on this scale.so when I track with this preamp,I can only have the LED meter read up to -8dB,or else it clips the input to Logic.
Now,in your case, the "real world" meters might be calibrated to a different level.
I would suggest you do the following test,to see what the levels read in the Alesis, and what they read in Logic, when feeding a known signal:
1.in logic insert a "tone generator/oscillator" plugin to a channel, and output it channel 1 only (mono out) and set the level to,say, -20dBFS
2.take a lead cable from output 1,and wire it up to another input, say input 3 on your Alesis.Make sure the input level on the alesis is not cranked up all the way,but at -0-
3.place another channel on input, with input 3.check to see what the Logic meter is telling you.If there is a difference, note it,and check the Alesis manual,to see what their reference levels are.
From this, you'll know what levels to feed the alesis,in order to get an optimal recording level, and also at what levels both the alesis box and Logic clip at.
    Cheers

  • Setting size of movie in Logic Express?

Is it possible to change the size of the movie in Logic Express? And if so, could someone tell me what the options are, as far as the size goes?
    Thanks...

I suspect it is the same as Logic Pro.
In Logic Pro you simply click and hold on the QT movie screen and a popup window appears where you can choose the size.
You did mean the actual area of the movie screen didn't you? Not the size in memory? That is determined, of course, by how you create your QT.

  • How to set up an audio interface with logic express

i just got a deck board tascam us-1641, downloaded the driver, plugged in my keyboard but nothing is happening. What am I missing or not doing?

You probably have to set up Logic to use your audio interface.
You'll find these settings under the Logic menu > Preferences > Audio. Then you can select the preferred audio interface.

  • HT1731 Set up airport extreme, cannot connect express, help?

COnnected a new extreme, tried to connect a new express to upstairs to increase range and add devices, amber light won't go out on express. Cannot locate the device on the network.

Suggest that you unplug the Express and temporarily move it to the same room where the AirPort Extreme is located.
Power up the Express and let it run a full minute or two. Then, push in the reset button on the Express and hold it in for 7-8 seconds, then release.
Allow 40-45 seconds for the Express to restart and display a slow, blinking amber light.
I am assuming that you are using AirPort Utility for the iPad since you mention iOS 5.1 in  your post. If not, download and install App Store - AirPort Utility
Tap Settings on the iPad home screen, then tap Wi-Fi
AirPort Express should appear under the heading of Set up an AirPort Base Station
Tap AirPort Express, and AirPort Utility will take a 25-30 seconds or two to examine your network and then declare that the Express will be setup to extend the AirPort Extreme.
Tap Next in the upper right hand corner of the window and allow a minute or two for AirPort Utility to configure the Express and wait for it to restart again with its new settings.
When AirPort Utility tells you that the AirPort Express is now extending the AirPort Extreme, the Express will display a green light.
Now, move the AirPort Express to a location that is about half way between the AirPort Extreme and the general area that needs more wireless coverage, plug it in and allow 40-45 seconds for it to start up and display a green light.
    You should be in business.

  • Boost fast track in logic express, help please?!

    hi there,
i'm new to Logic and this forum; I have a problem enhancing volume into logic; I can hear/manipulate my guitar sound through my fast track USB but the peak level in the track seems very low... my imported playback audio sounds good and so are the levels of those tracks whereas my recorded guitars are very low! I'm plugged through the instrument jack and the sound level in the mac preferences is correct, how's that I can record at a proper volume?
maybe it's a common ploblem but here I'm stuck...

    Hi,
This is obvious, but make sure your Input Level Switch is set to the GUITAR position.
Assuming you have it that way, another option is to get a direct box (or at least a line-matching transformer). Plug your guitar into that, come out of it w/ an XLR cable, plug that into the mic input. That will give you the ability to use the Gain control on the Fast Track to boost your level.
If that's not enough, you can insert a Gain plug-in into an Input Track.

  • Can't sync Digi 002 as an interface for Logic Pro 7

I discovered Logic about a year after I had already purchased a Digi 002, and have been using it as my interface for Logic Express for about 6 months.  No problems.  I upgraded to Logic Pro 7 last month and now get only garbled sound and the following error message. "Error while trying to synchronize audio and midi.  Sample rate 88215 recognized.  Check conflict between Logic and External Device."
I am trying to run Logic Pro 7.  I still also use Pro Tools LE version 7.0 which runs fine.  I can play itunes songs, Garage Band, movies, Pro Tools songs, etc., no problem, but not Logic Pro, or Logic Express.
When I switch to Built In Audio, Logic Pro works fine through the tiny built in speaker, but trying to use the Digi 002 as my interface all the sound comes out garbled.
I have been pulling out my hair for weeks.  Any help would be much appreciated.

    Tony P.M. wrote:
The digi people also recommended buying the update for 7.3 and then updating to 7.3.cs4.  I am going to give that a try.  What does Pro App Support 4.0 do and where do I find it if you think that might help me?
That is what I'm running, and it works great. Give it a shot. You can do a search on this forum, or on the Apple Support section of the website, and search for that term (Pro Application Support).
Yes I have learned my lesson with auto update.  Live and learn.
Yes. Remember, a DAW machine is NOt a regular computer you can do whatever with. Audio software and hardware are finicky creatures that don't play nice if you're messing with their operating system willy-nilly.
I spoke with the Apple Store people today as well.  They suggest I spend $100 and sign up for one on one support and bring the whole **** set up in to the store and let them work on it. Seeing as how I am using a G5 tower, and we are talking about a digi 002 board, that is going to be alot of fun to lug across the mall.   I am just about that desperate though.  Any thoughts on one on one support in store?
LOL!!! they just want your money, and will most defniintely screw up your system. They'll update wrong, install stuff you don't want, and re-configure your system to THEIR liking. Stay away from the genius Bar. When it comes to Pro audio, they really know little or nothing. As an example, I went to my local Apple store recently and asked for a copy of Logic Pro. the helpful guy there responded "Logic what? we don't have that kind of software here."
    Thanks for the help.  Again.
You're welcome. Hopefully soon you'll have it up and running.
    Cheers

  • How to record V-Drums in Logic Express?

I’m trying to record my V-Drums through the M-Audio 2626 interface into Logic Express. I’m able to trigger sounds in the Logic Express library when I conned the MIDI-out on the V-drums to the M-Audio.
But I’d like to record the Roland drum sounds through Logic. Has anyone had success with this?
I tried connecting the audio out from the V-drums into channel 1 on the M-Audio with a 1/4-inch instrument cable. I can hear the drum kit through the M-Audio via the headphone jack, but not through Logic Express.
If anyone has successfully recorded Roland V-drums in Logic, any information would be helpful.
    Many thanks,

    Hi,
you're on the right way. You have to create an audio track in Logic (one for each output of the drums or simply a stereo track for the drum's stereo output - depending on your configuration).
    1. Select the appropriate channel of your M-Audio as the audio track's input
    2. Click the little red "R" to arm this track for recording or press the littel "I" to activate input monitoring for rehearsal.
    3. Start recording and there you are.
    4. Don't forget: Have fun!

  • Logic Express 7.1.1 stuttering audio

Audio in Logic Express 7.1.1 stutters whenever stopped in the Arrange window - looping the same short bunch of samples over and over. Clicking on an audio instrument track solves this problem. This occurrs whenever I use an external audio interface (Echo Mona) - no problems with built-in audio. This problem does not occur using Logic Pro on the same laptop with the same Echo Mona interface.
Another user on a forum described exactly the same problem but using a Maudio Audiophile 24/96. His problem also was solved by clicking on an audio instrument or using Logic Pro. It appears Logic Express has an audio driver issue.
    Anyone else experienced this?
    cheers Scott
    Powerbook g4/1ghz/512M/ OSX 10.4.2

I have the same problem. However, opening the audio
    preference panel doesn't help me...
It's only Logic Express on my Edirol DA-2496 PCI
audio interface. iTunes wirks fine with that
interface and Logic Express wiorks fine with my Sound
    Sticks...
I hope somebody can help me...
    Wimek
I am nor sure about your particular problem, but I have noticed that express can "stutter" when playing if you have a Audio Instrument track highlighted in the arrange page.
If you do have a Audio Instrument highlighted, first hit "stop" then click on any Audio track (not an intrument) and hit play again.
    This worked for me.

  • Recording a live DJ mix WITH LOGIC EXPRESS

    Hi
I really need to know how to set up and record through logic express with my new MAC. I used to use Soundforge with a PC but now am completely confused!
A bit of advice would be appreciated!

    1. Launch Logic
1b. go to Logic preferences and select your audio input source.
    2. file- select 'new'
    3. a window will pop up - audio or instrument - choose audio
    4. choose 'stereo' , I expect.
    5. Hit the record button and choose where you files are going to be kept
    6. record your thing
    7. In the master track that you probably see, choose 'bounce' Take note of the start and end point numbers. You would think when you tell it to bounce it would do that but - no - Logic needs to know bounce from where to where? Choose the file name and bounce away!! Good luck.
