please can anyone advice me on how to set up the songs i have on my phone as ringtone....tell me the steps to follow ...cheers

RINGTONE
This how to make ring tones for your iPhone:
Choose the desired song from you library
Do a secondary click on your song if you are using a MAC (right click for PC)
Click "Get Info”
Go to Options tab
Set Start Time and Stop Time, some iOS only allow for a 30 sec duration for ringtones, then click OK
Do secondary click (right click for PC) to your selected song
Click "Create AAC Version", new song from your selected will added to your library (short one)
Do secondary click (right click for PC) to your short one (new song)
Click "Show in Finder”
Rename file *.m4a to *.m4r, click "use *.m4r”
Drag the file to library, for the first time it would automatically add your library with new folder "Tones" under Apps folder
Open the ring tones in the Tones folder of your library than drag it to your iPhone and your ringtone also would be automatically added "Tones" folder.
Last but not least, set the ring tone in your iPhone under the "Setting-Sound"

You can't set a whole song as a ringtone. You will need to create the ringtone 30 secs or less

We kow how to change ringtones, but the song does not appear in the ringtone list. How can we either get this song into the list of ring tones or set the song as the default ringtone?

You choose the default ringtone on the iPhone in Settings>Ringtone. If you don't see the ringtone he purchased there it may be a song rather than a ringtone (especially if it appears on the songs list in the Music app). He can still create a ringtone from this song using iTunes, then sync it to his phone and set it as his default ringtone. Songs to ringtones sorry for the repetition

Ringtones. I realize this has been asked a lot and i have read other discussions but they have not pertained useful information for my situation. Is there no way to set up any song already imported on your iphone to a ringtone? I have made a few ringtones in garageband, however when i send them to itunes they send as a song, although they are only 30 secs. When i open itunes i cannot drag these ringtones into the ringtone folder, or select "create ringtone" because i did not buy the songs via itunes. Thus i made a playlist for my ringtones and synced them onto my phone, to find you cannot set songs as ringtones.... any suggestions??

If you have a Mac...
1) Pick your song you want to turn into a ringtone in iTunes.
2) Right click>Get Info or File>Get Info or Apple>I.
3) Go to Options when the Get Info window opens.
4) Click the check boxes to initiate Start and Stop time, manually entering the start and finish time of the song you want as a ringtone.
5) Now, hit Okay.
6) Next, go to Advanced>Convert Selection to AAC, this will create a copy of the song, but just the portion you want as a ringtone.
7) The copy will be right under the original in iTunes, you will see the difference in times with the selection you chose should be at a ringtone length, like :30 seconds or so. Right-click on the selection and choose Show in Finder, or File>Show in Finder, it should be an m4a file.
8) Simply click on the file name to edit it and change it to an m4r, this will change it into a ringtone to be recognized by iTunes.
9) Go back to iTunes, find the short selection of the song that you converted to a ringtone and drag it out of iTunes to your desktop.
10) It will make a copy of it and it should now be in your iTunes and desktop. Then, back in iTunes, delete the selection you just moved to the desktop.
11) Double-click on the file you dragged to your desktop and it should open up and play in the "Ringtones" section of your iTunes.
12) Sync.

I recently downloaded a bunch of songs an ringtones from Itunes on my phone. I synced up the phone to my computer to back up the files and to charge it and afterward all the new music and ringtones are gone?! Checked iTunes and they're not there either!

I went onto iTunes and tried to download the same things that I had previously and when I did it said I had already downloaded them? iTunes only gave me the option to purchase the music and ringtones again. Does this happen often or is there something wrong with the software on my iPhone?

Did you have the music in your iTunes library on your computer when you signed up for match? How did you transfer the music from you iPhone to your computer? Do you have a back up.

In iTunes, try signing out of your Apple ID & then back in: click on iTunes Store on the left sidebar of iTunes, click on your Apple ID on the top right, sign out, sign back in. Then try to sync your purchased music to your phone again.

Is there a DJ app for the Ipad that will read the "start" and "stop time" setting for each individual song, as they are set in the song Options screen in Itunes? The Ipod Touch, by itself does not allow cross-fading, therefore when the stop time is edited short, the song jusst truncates then goes to the next song. I tried the DJay ap and while it would crossfade, it would NOT read the song settings for the stop marker. So now I want to try and Ipad and see if there is an app that will READ the Itune stop settings within the song. I do NOT want an app that will allow me to DO the stop marker. I want an app that will READ the stop marker from the song as it is set in Itunes.

Itunes provides the option for setting the Start and Stop times of each music track. However, the start and stop times do not synchronize to the iPhone. I don't understand why this option is even available as it doesn't work when listening to music on the phone. I have not found another application that will support the start and stop time markets. I have searched quite a bit for this but can't find anything. I hope we can find something.
