Setting up old time capsule to work with UVerse Router

I have a 3rd generation TC and need to connect to UVerse Router.I only need one
network. am using sys.7.5 on old iMac. 2006  I have Ethernet cable.
Please help. Thanks.

Suggest that you use the Mavericks Mac to set up the Time Capsule.
Power up the Time Capsule for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the back of the Time Capsule for 10 seconds and release
Allow a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the four LAN <--> ports on the Uverse router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule
Click the WiFi icon at the top of the Mac's screen
Look for the listing of AirPort Base Station
Just below that, click on Time Capsule
The illustration below shows an AirPort Extreme. You will see Time Capsule
Clicking on Time Capsule will open up the setup wizard. It will take a minute to analyze the network, then display a window that looks like this, except that you will see a Time Capsule icon. Since the Time Capsule will run circles around the Uverse wireless, I I assume that you are planning to turn off the wireless on the Uverse router.
Network Name......Enter a short, simple name for the Time Capsule wireless network
Base Station.........Enter a short, simple name that you want to call the Time Capsule
Password..............Enter a password which will be used for the Network and Base Station
Verify.....................Enter the password again
Click Next
The setup utility will configure everything for you. When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done
That's it.

  • HT1178 How do I set-up my Time Capsule to work with my existing Wireless Router?

The existing  wireless router is my connection to the Internet and I would like to keep it that way. I really want the TC to fuction as an external Hard Drive/Server, Backup Disc! The TC is where all my Music and Photos are located together with my Backups!
I have tried different configurations and I get it to work for a wile, but after a few minutes it will disappear from my Air Port Utility, a rescan will not bring it back, but if I unplug and then plug it back in it will reappear. However if the TC shows in Air Port Utility or not the TC still shows up on my Desktop.
What Settings should I use in Air Port Utility, Should the Ethernet Cable be plugged into Ethernet or LAN Port?
    My Current Settings are:
Ethernet Cable: Connected to the ETHERNET PORT
    AirPor Tab:
    Wireless Mode: OFF
    Connect Using: ETHERNET
    Internet Tab: Internet Connection
    Connect Using: ETHERNET
    Connection Sharing: OFF (BRIDGE MODE)
    TCP/IP:
    Configure IPv4: USING DHCP

    I am Running OS 10.5.8 on a PowerBook G4.
Below you will see the Log (IP Address, AirPort ID, Eternet ID, Subnet Mask, Router Address, DNS Server Info has been removed).
I had the TC was originally set-up connected to a DLS Modem, all worked fine Backups over TM all was ok, but then the Modem died. (I upgraded to a Wireless Router). I did have it set up, but I nolonger know the settings, I wanted to do a backup with TM, which had not been done for a long time (6 months)
I tried to backup, but either it was not working or was taking sooooo long, that I decided to do the Backup over Ethernet (still took the hole day for 8.5 GB). I had read that I nedded to chang my setting to be able to Backup with Ethernet. Did not Save the previous settings hence my problem!

  • What is the best way to get a time capsule to work with a new network name?

What is the best way to get a time capsule to work with a new network name?

Well it seems that you did not explain to us the full story.  Did you change ISP's or something? Why would it not show up anymore?
What colour is the light on the time-capsule? If it's blinking amber, then you probably need to do a factory-reset. That should get it to show up again in AirPort Utility.

  • Can i set up my Time Capsule 1st generation with airport 5.5.3?

can i set up my Time Capsule 1st generation with airport 5.5.3?

Yes, if you are asking about AirPort Utility 5.5.3 for Windows.....and you are running XP SP3 on your PC.
    AirPort Utility 5.5.3 for Windows
If you are running XP SP2 on the PC, then you will need to use AirPort Utility 5.4.2 for Windows
    AirPort Utility 5.4.2 for Windows

  • Time capsule doesnt work with telia bredband no wifi

Time capsule doesnt work with telia bredband no wifi.  Time capsule and its wifi worked in the beginning, but now it doesnt. I have tried everything without success.

There is no question.. so if it is a statement of resignation.. then if under warranty and faulty Apple will fix it/replace it.. if not dead you will be given it back.
Are you using Lion? If so did you download 5.6 airport utility?
Plug the TC into a computer by ethernet.. hold in reset for 10sec.. and then redo the setup.
Give TC and wireless short names and no spaces and no special characters.. lock the wireless to manual a/n-b/g and fix the channels.
Then if it doesn't work most likely faulty. Otherwise it is just setup is wrong.

It should work just fine. You can see user reviews on Apple's web site, here is the URL:

  • Set up old Time Capsule as an external hard drive

I have a new Time Capsule (new "tower type") which is set up and running my wireless network. I want to use my old Time Capsule (bought new in 2011 "Flat type") as an external hard drive connected to my MacBook Pro. I don't want the old Time Capsule to have wireless activated. I have reset the old Time capsule to factory settings. How do I set up the old Time Capsule to use it as an external hard drive connected to my MacBook Pro late 2011?

I have a DLink ethernet connected to the new TC. In another room I have a DLink plugged into a wall socket which carries the internet to that room. Will this work? Which port do I plug it into? WAN or LAN
I presume the dlink is ethernet over power adapter set??
Yes, it should work ok. You plug dlink into the WAN port of the TC. Put the TC in bridge as per bob's instructions.
Plug the MBP into the LAN port of the TC. You can then backup and get internet over ethernet.. it would probably be better to turn wireless off in this setup.
You can also plug the TC directly into the MBP without getting internet.. if the wireless is working ok.
    I explained the method here.
Using Time Capsule hardwired to Mac for back-up only.
I would like to make a comment though. The TC is still slower and poorer as a backup target than a USB drive.
It is simpler by far to go out and buy a USB drive and plug that into the MBP.
You can then also make a bootable clone of the computer and that will work far better than TM if you ever need to boot it due to damaged hard disk.

  • Setting up Time Capsule to Work With Verizon DSL

I am not able to establish a new network using the Time Capsule I just purchased. The funny thing is that the capsule is replacing an Airport Express that works just fine. Same cables, same location, just that the time capsule cannot get an appropriate IP address from the DSL modem. Anyone have any experience in setting up the unit (using Airport Utility) to connect with Verizon?

I realise that, because it's 802.11g the MacBook will not be able to achieve the potential connection speed of the 'N' Time Capsule, however, even if I had the TC, with a G4 PowerBook on the LAN everything would connect at the (lower) 11g speed anyhow, wouldn't it?
As you have already ascertained, any 802.11g device connected to a 802.11n network will only operate at the highest available bandwidth that 802.11g allows ... mainly 54 Mbps. In addition, when even a single 802.11g device connects to a 802.11n network, 802.11n clients will only get about 70% of 802.11n's top bandwidth. To get around this, you can configure a "dual band" network. With this type of network, you can run both "g" and "n" clients on separate network to get the highest bandwidth possible for each. So, in your case, the Time Capsule will run a "n" only network and your AX will provide the "g" only one. The AX would be connected directly to the TC by Ethernet and reconfigured as a bridge so clients on either network would "see" each other.

  • New Air Port Time Capsule Not Working With Old Airport Express

I have been running a home network comprised of a Air Port Time Capsule (A1254) and 5 ea Air Port Express (A1264) for several years with no problem.
The Air Port Time Capsule (A1254) died and I replaced it with an Air Port Time (A1470). Now none of the Air Port Express (A1264) work, all flashing yellow. All other network functions seem to work okay, Time Capsule Backup, Apple TV, Internet …
I am using AirPortUtility 6.3.1 for setup but do not see any way to setup the Air Port Express.

Reset the Express to factory and start over.. they should work.. are you using all 5 in extend wireless mode?
When you reset the Express click on the wifi icon in the top menu area.. and the newly reset AEx will appear in the list.. click it and Airport utility will open and attempt to automagically connect it to the TC.

  • How do i set up time capsule to work with airport extreme base to extend wireless network?

i have a airport extreme base, how do i set up a time machine to extend the wireless network i have with airport extreme? i have also 3 airport express's connected to the same network to extend my wifi all over my house. thanks in advance.

    Much better graphics, thanks.
You can leave the Time Capsule connected by Ethernet from the Linksys and configure for a "roaming" network as mentioned previously.
To do this, open AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Same name as the AirPort Extreme
No check mark needed next to Allow this network to be extended
Radio Mode = Same setting as the AirPort Extreme
    Channel = Automatic
Wireless Security = Same setting as the AirPort Extreme
Wireless Password = Same password as the AirPort Extreme
    Confirm Password
Click the Internet icon, then the Internet Connection tab
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Update to save settings and allow the Time Capsue to restart
Then power down the entire network
    Wait a minute or two
Start the modem first and let it run a full minute
Start the AirPort Extreme the same way
    Power up the switch
Power up the Time Capsule for a minute
Keep starting devices one at a time about a minute apart
Now, your computer will automatically pick up a wireless signal from either the AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule, whichever device is closer and providing the stronger signal.

  • Setting up a Time Capsule and dealing with security

    Here's an interesting problem/question.
I had very little trouble setting up my TC on my MPB wirelessly. However, my old PB G4 800Mhz with the original airport card couldn't connect. It would keep timing out. Finally, I called Tech Support and think it managed to stump even the tech support. There was a point the TC wouldn't even work with the MBP. Finally, I unplugged the TC, did a hardware reset then a software reset. In factory default mode, with no security, this PB can connect. However, if I turn on any form of security (WEP,WPA, anything), the PB can't connect.
Has anyone come across an issue like this? And how did you solve it? Is this clear enough?

    2) What's the difference between joining a network and extending it? Wouldn't joining a network extend its range?
When joining an existing wireless network, an AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is acting just like any other wireless client (laptop, desktop, printer, etc.); its basic router functions are disabled. When extending an existing wireless network it will "extend" the network connectivity (including Internet access if available) from the base station. The latter is called a Wireless Distribution System (WDS). With the introduction of the 802.11n base stations another method of extending a wireless network was also introduced. This new method retains a 802.11n wireless network by only working with another 802.11n AirPort, whereas a WDS will only operate in 802.11g.
    4) Is there any difference between WEP (Transitional Security Network) on the Time Capsule and WEP 128 bit on the Airport Express?
Sort of. WEP Transitional is a "hybrid" version of WEP that's supported on 802.11n networks that will have 802.11b/g WEP clients. WEP 128-bit is only available in either the 802.11b/g-compatible, 802.11g only or 802.11b only radio modes.

  • Time Capsule not working with new modem

I have been using my TC with our motorola modem for 2.5 years. On Friday last week, the modem crapped the bed and AT&T sent us a new modem, a netgear. The modem is working fine; when I connect the ethernet cable directly to my laptop the internet work perfectly, however when I try to get the wireless network going through my TC, there is no connection. All the lights on the modem work fine and every time I try to work with the TC, it says that it is working fine as well. It seems like something is not communicating between the modem and the TC.
I've tried restarting both machines numerous times, I've checked and rechecked the WEP password, the IP addresses are fine, and I'm still lost
The modem works. Time Capsule Works. I don't get it!

The new netgear is probably a modem router whereas the old Motorola was pure modem.. not sure but possible.
Reset the TC and set it to bridge modem.. plug into the netgear modem router.. and it should work fine.
If the new netgear is in fact a pure modem.. you need to turn it off and put the TC in place.. wait up to 15min for the ISP to renew the lease on the MAC address then turn on the cable modem.. wait then turn on the TC. But this is not necessary if it is a router.
What is the model number of the netgear so I can check this.. ?

  • Time Capsule not work with appletalk printers connected via ethernet?

I have seen no definitive answers to this problem posted here or on support forum. Some have suggested (but Apple refuses to confirm) that Time Capsule does not support AppleTalk devices (particularly printers) connected via Ethernet to Time Capsule. Even the "Genius Bar" guys can't tell you for sure, but this is what they suspect also.
I am a 25 year Macintosh user. I have conducted numerous experiments on this problem. What follows is my analysis and work around.
I have found no way to connect AppleTalk printers to Time Capsule by an Ethernet network connected to the back of the Time Capsule. It just doesn't work. Forget all the posts about what to try. Especially forget about resetting your printer settings. Waste of time. This leads me to conclude that those who suspect that Time Capsule does not support AppleTalk printers connected on an Ethernet network are absolutely correct. It is a hardware or software deficiency. I do not know why Apple won't just publish this in their technical specs. It would save us users a lot of time and frustration.
Now the work around. The only thing that I have found that will work is to set up an Airport Extreme to extend the wireless network created with the Time Capsule. Plug your ethernet network into the Airport Extreme, NOT into the Time Capsule. I presume (but have not tested) that this works with an Airport Express as well. I did this with my old Airport Extreme that I had left over after buying my new Time Capsule. Now the printers show up again and print fine.
Please let me know what your results are if you try this.

The problem is caused by an interaction between the Airport Extreme Update 2008-004 and the TC 7.3 firmware. I swapped out my TC for my AirPort Extreme (which sat on a shelf unused since I bought the TC). It has version 6.xx of the firmware. Immediately I could see my printer when I wirelessly connect with my MBPro and can print from it. I put the TC back and then did an Archive and Install of 7.5 on my MBPro. I did every software update except the Airport Extreme Update 2008-004. I could see my printer and print to it! After cloning my HD, I then applied the 2008-004 update to 7.5.5. That broke the wireless printing again! I tried TC firmware 7.3, 7.3.1, and 7.3.2 but not go. It is clear that my computer is trying to communicate with the printer (lots of flashing lights on my LAN switch) but no successful handshaking. I restored my hard drive from the clone and I now I can print again. Final word: if you want to print from a wireless computer connection to an AppleTalk printer connected to TC's LAN do not apply the 2008-004 update to your computer. Apple: please fix this problem.
