  • How do I set up a local testing server?

Hey again everyone. I am trying to figure out how to set up a local testing server. I've read a couple different tutorials online and i still can't figure it out. I added a new server, named it test server, I'm connecting using local/network, my server folder is C:\Users\Jake\Website\testfolder, and my web URL is http://localhost/. My server model is PHP/MySQL.
My site's root folder is C:\Users\Jake\Website\. I have also downloaded XXAMP. It downloaded and that was it though, I'm not sure if I need to apply it somehow to Dreamweaver. When I try to preview my pages I get a message that asks me if I want to update copy on testing server. If I choose yes, another message comes up and asks me if I want to put dependent files. Whether I choose yes or no it just says IE cannot display the web page.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

    Server Name: Local Testing

    Server Folder: C:\xampp\htdocs\php_test
    Default Images Folder: C:\xampp\htdocs\php_test\Images\

Is that everything you need to know? Note that I do not have a remote testing site set up yet.

  • Setting up local web test server

    Hi All,
Apologies if this should go in installation and setup but here goes.
    Running 10.3.9.
    Httpd running
    MySQL server running
    PHP enabled
I'm trying to set up a local testing server on my G4 powerbook so I can do my mods and just occasionally ftp up the code, say, once a week.
I've started personal web sharing and can access my local site's index page ok (i.e. http://mymachine.local/~me/website/ ). That's all fine.
But I've installed the oscommerce app under my web directory and unless I have a connection toi the net then it just doesn't want to know.
So calling up " http://mymachine/local/~me/website/catalog/index " gives me a nothing if I don't have an internet connection.
I think I have set everything up as I should to have a local testing server for web apps :- Personal web sharing enabled, MySQL sorted, PHP sorted.
Does anyone know what I might need to do further or perhaps point me in the right direction?
    Much appreciated.

Try using http://localhost/local/~me/website/catalog/index . It may be that your original link doesn't work because your machine is trying to look up the IP-address of "mymachine" using DNS, and that won't work if you're off-line; "localhost" is a synonym for "127.0.0.1", which is the "loopback address" -- it always means your own machine. No DNS lookup required, no real network interface required, so it should work whether you're on-line or not.

  • Sun Java System Application Server as Testing server in Dreamweaver

Hi, just want to know if I can use Sun App Server as my testing server in dreamweaver? because i've already used
tomcat before but haven't use Sun App yet. I want to deploy my JSPs in sun app server. thanks in advance.

it has design view where you can drag and drop tables, and forms to design the pageDrag'n'drop sucks, it makes you brain dead and the generated code is a pain to read, debug and maintain.
unlike in eclipse or netbeans. please correct me if i'm wrong. You're wrong. I don't recommend you dragging'n'dropping tho.
and another can i just deploy jsp files in netbeans without having to make it .war files to deploy to sun app server. What do you mean with "deploy in Netbeans"? Netbeans is an IDE, not an application server.

set up a DSN in Coldfusion I can't however get setup the testing
server so that I can test my site it is asking for a HTTP address,
I have tried everything I can think of and tried pointing this

I recommend downloading and installing XAMPP

  • How to create a testing server in dreamweaver?

Im finding problem in creating testing server so can any one help me. plz be elobrate

    Hi
Firstly you need to define your testing server environment. PHP/MySQL - or - Coldfusion/Oracle or whatever.
You will get a better response in the DW Application Development forum. This forum is devoted to Spry Widget Browser.
Jump over to the other form and explain the testing server environment you need.
    Hope that helps.

  • How to set up a local testing server with local-only access

    Hi folks,
I've reached the point where I need to do some simple server-side scripting in my Dreamweaver work. I work remotely pretty often, so I want to be able to preview my work without having to go back and forth to the production server. It seems to me the solution would be to install a little web server on my laptop, BUT I'm concerned about security. Is there any way I can set up a local webhost but not make it accessible to the outside world?
I'm really pretty clueless about this stuff, so I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!
    -Kim

I would recommend using XAMPP Lite.  It's very lightweight and portable when installed on a USB drive or flash stick.

  • Problems with a Test Server in Dreamweaver CC

I am using MAMP to work on a local server to edit a wordpress theme in Dreamweaver CC. Yesterday I was able to view all of my pages and php files in "live view," today I am recieving the error that "dynamically-related files can not be resolved because of internal server area. the only thing I touched was CSS and the I brought up the files again this morning and recieve the error on every page. Does anyone have experience with this?

If nothing has changed in your defined site, it might be just "one of those things". Have you gone through and restarted everything? Shut down the server, mySQL and DW. Restart the machine, restart the server and mySQL then open DW.
If that doesn't help, I don't know if rebuilding the site cache and the DW Program Cache would do anything, but they might be worth a try...
Click the Files window menu, choose Site > Recreate Site Cache
    DW Program Cache: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/494811
I haven't played with DWCC and a server yet, so I'll have to leave any further troubleshooting to the folks who do use it.

  • Edit files on a server with dreamweaver CS5

I am having a problem editing files directly from a ftp server. I just updated to Cs5 from Cs3 and seem to of lost the ability to edit and change files on a live server. I understand that I can download an entire site, but with the amount of sites that I maintain this is not doable storage wise. I am assuming there is a way to bypass the local/remote server sync, but have yet  to figure it out. I have search the forums and support FAQs but alas found nothing.
Thanks in advance for your time
    Nate

    Hi Nate,
in these cases I'm not a friend of a detailed troubleshooting. It is one of the reasons that I prefer an external FTP program. The difficulties with which you have to fight encourage me in this opinion, not least because we always search for experts, we don't charge a "jack of all trades".
For this reason, to manage, for example, several websites or to upload my files and sometimes for the opposite way, for a necessary download from my server or to use a "a site-wide synch", I'm using FileZilla. It simply looks easier for me to keep track of all operations precisely and generate or reflect easily the desired tree structure.
Above all, FileZilla has a feature (translation from my German FileZilla) called "compare file list". Here it's possible to use file size or modification time as a criterion. There is also the possibility to "hide identical files", so that only these files which you want to redact remain visible.
And even if it means you have to install a new program, I am convinced that there is an advantage. Here is the link to get it and where you can read informations about how it works:
    http://filezilla-project.org/ and
    http://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Tutorial#Using_the_site_manager
    Mac: Mac OS X
    http://filezilla-project.org/download.php
Of course, you also need all the access data to reach your server.
    Good luck

  • Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 - Help - Test Server

    Hey,
I work for my University on a "Numeracy Inititative", we use Flash Modules develped by Adobe Flash 8, and host them on a website that was developed by Dreamweaver (not sure which version).
The website is located here: http://www.uoguelph.ca/numeracy/
I've been tasked to kind of change the format of the site...make it more "user friendly".  And I'm using Adobe Dreamweaver CS3...and I've been spending the day looking at tutorials and what not, but I want to put the website up onto a test server, I try doing the "preview in browser" but when I do I get a "Unable to connect".
Is there something else I can do...another method?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

    You didn't answer Murray's question.
The method you're using can work, but it can get out of control pretty fast if you have a lot of files to test. Some folks just create a separate folder for testing that way.
I would set up a local test server for this purpose. If that is not an option for you, you might be able to create a subdomain on your live server, say http://test.example.com . You can even create a simple http authentication for the subdomain so that bots and search engines don't find it.

  • How to setup the local testing server ??

hello, what do I need to install first before I can setup the
testing server in dreamweaver 8? I have download apache2 triad,
    mySQL, IIS 6...
Where should I download the correct version of mySQL because
I need to test my php scripts locally which has something to do
    with database?
How do I configure these on the testing server setup
Connection Name - what should I input here?
    MySQL Server - and this?
Username - where do I get one?
Password - where do I get one?
Database - gets an error saying "HTTP error code 404...

2)The testing server specified for this site does not map to

I have never heard of apache2triad, but I've just had a look
    at the
apache2triad site, which says: "It is recommended that only
    experienced
users, with a vast knowledge of how networks, and its
    components (Apache
Web Server, ect.) should install this software. It IS NOT
    your average
software; a lot of time, patience and effort are required to
    maintain
    such a server."
Setting up a local testing server is not difficult, but it
    does require
a basic understanding of how a server-side language like PHP
    works.
As I said before, you must always store your files in the web
    server
document root. According to the apache2triad documentation,
    this is C:
\apache2triad\htdocs\. Unless you store your files there, or
    in a
subfolder of htdocs, nothing will work.

  • Previewing Pages via Testing Server Unusable???

    Hello,
I typically set up a local testing server during development.
When hitting F12, Dw uploads the current page to the testing
server, and then correctly shows that page in my browser. However,
Dw DOES NOT update the CSS file, and since most changes these days
are done in the linked/attached CSS file (even while editing the
main html page), this F12 preview in browser shortcut is unusable.
The only workaround I know of is to click on synchronize in
the files panel, click preview and then OK in two different dialog
    boxes.
Does anyone know how to make Dreamweaver upload ALL dependent
files to the testing server upon pressing F12?

There is a roundabout way to do this by using "upload files
    on save",
but I would not recommend using that unless you are very good
    about
making backups to all of your files.
Another solution would be to Preview in Browser using "Temp"
    files.

  • Preview in browser tries to access test server

I am building a site and want to preview in browser but
always get a message about accessing the test server. I only want
to view it on my hard drive. I'm sure I set something up wrong on
install but can someone help me figure out how to change the
settings? The message I'm getting is
    http://localhost/Templates/main%20template.dwt.asp
    in Safari.
I'd also like to preview in explorer but don't have it
installed on my machine. Do I have to purchase it just for
    previewing?

if it's an ASP active server page, you need to set up a local
    testing
    server.
