Setting up playbook

Hi, I am trying to set up my new playbook.   I have the playbook connected to my belkin router.  It started by saying that it would install 503mb of data which would take around 25 minutes.
After it had installed almost all of the data (around 493mb with 10mb remaining) it suddenly said on screen 'unable to complete set up....please retry later.
Having retried several times the playbook screen shows the belkin secure set up and asks me to swipe sideways.  Each time I swipe sideways a new screen appears which says 'checking for software updates'.
It does this for a few seconds and then says.... 'Could not connect to the update server (3000).  Please try changing your settings.
I have no idea what server 3000 is and do not know how to change settings,  both wi-fi and manual set ups are requesting passwords which I dont have.
Can anyone steer me in the right direction with this?
Thank you

Let me suggest that you find a free wifi hotspot somewhere... free wifi, requiring no password.
It sounds like your wifi needs a password.

  • Inability to set up playbook

Good day fellas, I just got my playbook but I am having troubles setting it up. I have gotten to the stage where it is going to install updates but it has refused to work since then. It automatically connects to the wifi and takes me back othe point at where it earlier stopped and asking me to restart and it goes on like that. Is there a way to start the set up process from the scratch again? It keeps saying error (0). Pls any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Looked about for an error code (0) and cant find one..suggestions I have seen for unable to update apps are to delete your wifi connection and re-enter your connection..the other suggestion I have seen is to refresh the app list. how long has this been happening, have you ever been able to update any apps, does wifi work well otherwise..one other suggestion, was using the battery icon, select restart

  • Set New Code for Network ???

I seem to have forgot my Wireless file sharing password and was hoping someone knows how to reset it or what happens when you reach ten attempts because I know I can eventually remember it but not sure with four more chances, tries, etc.
The help pages on the Playbook only provide details on how to use it or about it but not recovery.

A security wipe of the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet will erase all data and any downloaded applications and media (Including pictures/video taken on the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet or transferred via a PC)
Afterwards, you will basically have a 'like new' PlayBook.
If you have a backup of your PlayBook, you can restore previous personal data, pictures etc.
Otherwise, you will again set the Playbook up as new, enter your same BlackBerryID and password, etc., and proceed.

  • New Playbook won't update

While trying to set-up Playbook for the first time I'm getting to the part where you have to update the OS.
It keeps saying 'Unable to Install"
I read I should try updating via desktop manager. When I connect to computer I get the following...
"The Setup has not been completed for BlackBerry PlayBook [PIN:0x50235124]. Disconnect your device and complete the Setup, then reconnect it to your computer."

    Think I found the solution.
    1. Turn Playbook off.
    2. Connect to PC
    3. Turn Playbook on.
    4. You get a message saying it can't connect, click 'Repair' option

  • Blackberry Playbook has lost all its Wi-Fi connections

My 2011 Playbook has lost all it's Wi-Fi connections.  I have tried reconnecting at home and at work and no luck.  I was advised to do a reset/security wipe which I did and now I can't even get past trying to set up a Wi-Fi connection.  Any solutions or is it the bin for the Playbook?

I'm hoping that you don't have a hardware issue with the wifi card in the tablet.

You have to connect to a wifi network in order to get setup.  I don't think you can skip it.

  • Non-English characters not displaying correctly - Serious Issue

My corporate email is on a Lotus Domino server with Lotus Traveler installed.
I have set my PlayBook (with OS 2) up to syncronize with the corporate email trough Active Sync (see http://alturl.com/qh3nn), which works perfectly.
I have however noticed that in some emails special non-english characters are displayed correctly but in some emails special non-english characters are displayed as a black diamond with a question mark inside.
This is of course a serious issue as most non English speaking countries use some special characters.
When trying to understand this problem how can I analyse the emails and see what character set is being used?
And of course better; has someone solved this?

I am having the same problem. Is there any update available?

  • WiFI Conection issues

    Hi,
I've recently bought a new router(D-link Dir-601). Whenever I connect my playbook to my network. I can use the web browser for 5 to 10 minutes and then when I try to load a page I get the loading stays stuck at half and then I get "Couldn't resolve the host name". This also happens right after I try to launch an app like Lan file explorer or Flix. I've tried various solution found on forums, I've also tried to reset my router to factory settings and leaving every setting to default. I even tried setting different settings. No results.
All my other devices (My wii, My Ipod Touch and  My computer) works perfectly. This only happens with my playbook.
Hope you can help me and thanks in advance.

remove wifi setting on playbook and reboot it.
then remove power on wifi router for 5 minutes.
power up router and then turn on playbook and set up wifi again

  • Problem with DDPB Error 'Incorrect IP or Password'

I keep getting the 'Incorrect IP or Password' error. I have set my Playbook in Development Mode Installed latest Java(6-31) Connected my Playbook with USB Cable to Computer but nothing seems to work. Any assistants would be very much appreciated.

You need the correct version and also make a path statement for java. The path is nt fun unless you grew up on DOS.

  • Front camera error on my BBPLAYBOOK

on my playbook when i try 2 open my front camera its not opening . its showing camera error & the camera is in use .close any other instances of the camera and try again...

Best thing to do with any apparent hardware fault is
    1. Restart (you already tried that)
    if that does not work
    2. Backup data and perform a Security Wipe (Settings, Security, Security wipe) and set your playbook up again.
    if that does not work
    3. Debrick.
If debrick does not work, call your country's RIM support number ( www.blackberry.com/playbook )Tell them you have already reinstalled the OS using Desktop Software (because that is what they will walk you through otherwise) Depending in whether you are in warranty you will then have various repair/replace/trashcan options.
    Debrick.
Backup your data the best way you know how.
Make sure you know your Blackberry ID and password
Turn Playbook right off (i.e. Shut Down til black)
Download latest Blackberry Desktop Software to your PC or Mac and start it up
The next bit happens very quickly.
Connect the Playbook by USB cable.
If the red light starts to glow or playbook starts up, press the Off button til it goes off.
Because Playbook is off you will get an error message basically saying Retry or Update  (on Mac it  may say Repair rather than Update)
Quickly select the Update (or Repair) option
The Playbook will start to get a new OS that will take al least an hour to download via the PC
Follow the registration process using your current Blackberry ID
Add back your email accounts etc.
Reinstall your apps from App World, My World.

  • Problems with open wifi / redirect

    Hello everyone,
I recently bought a Playbook and have some problems connecting to a hotspot. I'm studying abroad and living on the campus area, which means i can only use the wifi of the university. It is an open wifi / hotspot and after connecting one should normaly get redirected to the login page.
    Here's the problem:
after connecting, i keep on getting the message "couldn't resolve hostname".
I searched for hours now but nothing seems to work for me. Disabled pop-up blocker, set private browsing off, nothing helped. Anyone got some hints what else i could try? Seems weird, as i can connect using my laptop and see all the network information (DNS, Gateway, ...) and i got the same settings on the PB (checked it @ wifi status).
whatever i try, I cant get to the login screen  (tryed everything i found in forums: typed DNS adress in browser -> nothing, typed the adress of the login page when connecting my laptop -> same error)
Any idea what else to try?
(This problem is realy annoying, as i cant access AppWorld without the Wifi - not via tithering and not using my laptop as i'd need a BB smartphone to do so [this issue exists for a year now and hasnt been fixed - am i the only one having a PB but no BB phone?!^^])
    Thanks in advance
    EDIT:
also removed wifi settings several times, restarted tablet several times, ... :-(

I had similar issue at a hotel, I deleted teh wifi setting on playbook for it
Made a new one, connected to wifi and waited 2 min so it showed green connection, then went to browser and agreed to terms, waited a min and got the couldn't resolve hostname. So i tapped on bing in browser about ten times and got connected for the rest of the day.

  • Problems Setting Up Contacts in Playbook

I normally use a desk top PC and Windows Mail to access my emails, but wish to also use my Playbook. My ISP is Plusnet. I do not have any other Blackberry mobile devices. I have been trying to get my contacts into my Playbook and have read many of the posts on here and other websites about this. Anyway I resorted to setting up a yahoo email account and imported my addresses into that. I then set up the yahoo account in "messages" in my Playbook. This has however not my adresses available. I have tried the same with a gmail account - this also hasn't made my adresses available. I then tried going into "Contacts" on the Playbook to set these accounts up but it just says that the accounts already exist.
I now can read emails from all the email accounts I have set up, but really do not want to have to set up all my contacts manually. I don't seem to be able to access any menu associated withese accounts which gives me the option of requesting sync of adresses.  This is very frustrating.
Any help with a step by step guide to get from where I am now to having my adresses in the Playbook would be appreciated.

  • Playbook - can't select country or get past set up!

I'm so frustrated with this device! I want to use it but I can't get past the set up.
I get to the point where it has a drop screen to select Country but there is nothing there to pick from. As a result I can't agree to the blackberry agreement and can't do anything with the actual playbook.
I've had it for a week now. I tried with the tech boys at work but they couldn't figure it out. I'm not very tech savy but can normally figure this stuff out!!
    PLEASE HELP!

    Hi All,
I have also similar kind of issue - Country name not populating in drop down list.
    Solution:
    - Tried and tested solution
While connecting to Wi-Fi just check for the Authentication Type. I have tried with "WPA-Psk/WPA-Psk2" and it works for me. Please make sure that the Router and the BB Playbook both were using the same authentication type. Default value for routers are generally "WEP" so change it.
    - Solution not tested but found in some forums.
I have heard one more solution. Shutdown your BB. Then install Desktop Manager in your Computer (PC). Connect you BB playbook with your Laptop. Once your Playbook is connected then only start it. Hopefully it will load and solve your problem. This does not even require Wi-Fi connection.
    Regards

  • Playbook email account set up problem

I just got a PB 16GB yesterday and got it set up fine with OS2, connected with BB Bridge - all was well. I set up an email account this morning then decided I wanted a different one so deleted the account. But now when I tap on Add an Account and select email, the only option the PB is giving me is to sign into an existing account - which of course no longer exists, so gives me an error message. I don't really want to factory reset unless absolutely necessary. Can anyone please help? Thanks in anticipation.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi, it means existing on the web, not existing on Playbook.  just type in the address and password and follow the instructions as before.
Bear in mind hotmail / livemail accounts have a temporary problem with servers.
If you have more than one email account I recommend only one syncs email, calendar and contacts and all wthe others sync email only. Use push where available.

  • Playbook (no 3g) email set up thro another server help please

    Hi
Have just bought the Playbook (no 3g) & am trying to set up the email. I have several email addresses (some bought & others eg BT) On the laptop I route them all thro BT server & am trying to do the same on the Playbook. It will find the purchased address automatically I guess thro the Easyspace server but I want to route all through the BT server which is where my internet connection comes from. It's probably a stupid question once you get your head around it but could anyone help - thanks

I have been trying without success to add gmail to my playbook. I keep getting the following message: "Your login information for IMAP server (imap.gmail.com) has changed or is incorrect. Please check your account settings."
