Setting up pop mail on iphone 4s

Trying to set it up, receiving mail is working fine, can't send mail. I know a lot about this stuff, but Im having a problem in the settings.
When I try to send mail it tells me it needs a password. So I go into the outgoing settings and enter the password, it verifies and seems to think its working. Well if I exit out and go right back into those settings, the password is not there. It's just not saving it.
This seems like a bug with the phone. Anyone else experience this? So irritating!

Just an update, I checked to make sure all the settings are correct, and they are, it just looks like the iphone is unable to save my outgoing mail username and password. As soon as I back out of it, it just resets them to blank.

  • Question about setting up pop mail on my iPhone

When I try to set up my pop mail account, I get a message saying the account cannot use SSL and asks if I want to proceed without SSL. Is this just an added security layer? If I say to proceed, will the account be set up, and will it be secure?

SSL is short for secure sockets layer.
    http://webnet77.com/secure-email.html
If the incoming mail server for your POP account does not support SSL, you can't use it with the account. The account should be set up when proceeding without using SSL since it appears the email account provider for your email account does not support using SSL.

  • Apple (POP)Mail vs. iPhone (POP)Mail issue -Round II

*I posted this before, and mistakenly marked it as resolved.*
After the iPhone firmware 2.1 update, my POP mail started acting funny. I use Gmail for my POP mail, which I access via Mail on both iPhone and MacBookPro.
Before the 2.1 update, if I got new POP mail on my iPhone (whether I read it or not), I could still later download it via Mail on my MacBookPro and it would appear as "unread".
After the 2.1 update, if I get new POP mail on my iPhone (whether I read it or not), it will not download in Mail on my MacBookPro.
-iPhone > Settings > Mail,Contacts,Calendars > Gmail Account > Advanced > Delete from Server > is set to "Never".
-I have tried going into the Gmail webmail and resetting the messages to "Mark as Unread", and they will still not download into Mail on the MacBookPro.
-I have deleted, and re-made my email account settings on the iPhone. This fixed the problem, but only for a few days.
-The issue comes and goes, which makes it even MORE frustrating.
    Help?

I have the same questions regarding my iPod Touch. I tried using IMAP on both my MacBook and my iPod, but had many problems with corrupted attachment downloads when trying to maintain a local IMAP storage on my MacBook (both in Mail.app and Thunderbird). Since I use my MacBook to back up all mail (don't want to trust Google's server), the dual IMAP wasn't going to work. So now I'm using IMAP on the iPod and POP3 on the MacBook.

  • Pop mail on iPhone 4s

Unable to find settings for pop mail. Setting up Yahoo account is easy but it is imap.
When you go to other account set up, after inputing
Information, automatic installs as imap account. Never gives option for
    Pop.  Any help?

This is what they did at the Apple Store for me, you have to have a Yahoo Plus account first, though.
I am having problems sending mail OUT, though,
    2) Yahoo! Mail Plus email server settings
Yahoo Plus Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com (SSL enabled, port 995)
Yahoo Plus Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) - plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com (SSL enabled, port 465, use authentication, and then select password from the Authentication)
If you need to upgrade, go to Options > Mail Plus > Upgrade now > enter your payment details for $19.99 annual fee to complete the process.

  • Setting up e-mail on iphone + Macbook

If I have an e-mail account set up on BOTH my iPhone 4 AND on my Macbook (Entourage) will the e-mails go to BOTH my computer and my phone, or if I check my e-mail on my phone, will those e-mails not show up on my computer when I go check my e-mail there later?
The reason I ask is I tend to read e-mails on my phone, but respond to them with my computer.
    Thanks,
    Ben

With e-mail servers like that is is best to ask your teacher or the admin of the server

  • How to set up POP mail

I have a pop account I would like to attach to my IPhone.
I put in my pop settings as guided on the phone and it is not working. It get an error message saying the certificate could not be verified for that address. I then press continue and it then says Cannot Connect Using SSL and asks me if I want to set up without SSL. Whether I click yes or no it's the same outcome that the connect fails.
Any one have any suggestions. I have been using a blackberry for years where it was quite easy to set up in minutes..compared to this.

All the email options you stated below work. When I am on my phone I am go to Other and trying to add a pop account through there. The account I am trying to add is my business email account. I can sign into it through Safari, but I was just trying to get the email to come through the phone so I did not always have to sign into my email account using a browser.
The mailhelper gave me this message
We're sorry. We don't have any information for your email provider. Contact your email provider to determine the mail settings for your iPhone. For more information, read iPhone: Email Account Setup.
I am my own email administrator. Would you know what questions I need to ask myself to make this work ...laugh

  • Pop mail on iphone deletes the mail on the server (google apps)

    Hi,
I have some .com mail accounts on google apps. And I also have one .com account on another company host.
When i recieve mail on my Iphone 3G the mail get's deleted on all the google apps. But not from the other company host.
And when I go home and check my email, the mails from google apps is not on my applemail, but the one from "another company" is. And the mails should be there, in apple mail, so I can reply and save it.
If my computer at home has downloaded the mail, I cannot get it on the iphone.
The settings should be right on the iphone. Never delete from server. And the google account pop is set to keep alle messages.
    Anyone?

EDIT: That should of course read: There is not a single good reason why POP is better than IMAP. IMAP is definitely better in every way!

  • Cannot set up POP mail - only IMAP?

For some reason, I cannot set up my iPhone to retrieve mail from a POP3 server. There's no option to choose to set up a POP account specifically, and it keeps failing, telling me that "The IMAP server pop.myisp.co.uk" is not responding. It also seems to insist on trying to connect over port 143, which is IMAP, not POP.
What do I have to do to set up a POP account? Has POP support been discontinued for IOS4?
This all worked perfectly well before the IOS4 'upgrade'...

Problem was the POP/IMAP button at the top of the screen was not displayed, as the screen was partially scrolled - in other words, the button was only visible by dragging the screen downwards to see the button at the top. Very odd, but at least I got it sorted out.

  • Setting up centurytel mail on iphone

I have the 3GS iphone. I'm trying to setup my centurytel email. I can successfully send emails, but I can't receive incoming emails.
    Incoming Mail Server: mail.so.centurytel.net
    Outgoing Mail Server: smtpauth.centurytel.net
Using SSL is set to OFF
    Authentication is set to Password
IMAP Path Prefix is set to /
Server Port is set to 993
It says the server is not responding?
But, I can send emails fine.
    Thanks for any help.

Based on this link, you can access the account as a POP account, not as an IMAP account.
