Setting Up Printer for Wireless

Hello Again,
I contacted the forum a few months back regarding reconfiguring my printer for a new router after I switched ISP. Regretfully, my issue was never solved. Fast forward a few months and I have purchased a new computer with hopes that I could start from scratch with the installation of the printer to the new network/new computer. No such luck. I am really computer illiterate! Since I did not have a disk for windows 8, I downloaded the Windows 8 HP Driver from hp.com. The printer is showing up in my control panel menu, but it still does not print. What did I do wrong? Please walk me through this process (for dummies) step-by-step. (Equipment: Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 Series, Netgear DSL Router, HP 6988 DeskJet)

Hi there @Rclark22 , nice to see you again!
I read that you had upgraded to a Windows 8 or 8.1 computer and are wanting to use your Deskjet 6988 over the wireless network to your computer.
I will share some information with you.
First of all, there is no full drivers available for the Deskjet 6988 (older printer), with Windows 8/8.1 (newer operating system). Your option to install the printer is with a Windows Update.
See this link. It also has all the information linked inside to install, limitations, printing, etc.
Install a Windows 8 Driver with Windows Update
You can try connecting to the network by following these steps for Windows 7 however, be aware that it may not work on Windows 8. It might be worth a shot!
Setting Up the Printer for a Wired or Wireless Network in Windows 7 for the HP Deskjet 6840 and 6980...
I hope this helps you!

How do I set up my HP psc2175xi all in one printer for wireless printing or network printing?
I am changing the set up of my home computer to add another computer.
I would like to go wireless from my computers to the hub and wired from the hub to my
printer. I do not think this printer can do that since it does not have the ports to connect to a router hub, I think.
I am rather new to this way of setting up, so any help would be nice.

You could get a wireless router that supports USB printers, but these only support printing, not scanning.  You could just go buy a new wireless printer since your printer is pretty old, anyway.

    Hi patede,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I see that you would like to learn how to set up your Deskjet 2540 printer to be able to print wirelessly from your Android mobile device when you don’t have a router.
I have included the document titled Printing from an Apple or Android Mobile Device with HP Wireless Direct.  The document will walk you through setting up the printer and  how to print from your Android mobile device.  Please note that when you are connected to the printer’s network you will not have access to the internet.

Roaminggnome has the list......pick on of those TERRIBLE printers and go for it....
I hope Apple see fit to broaden this list, because, having thrown away several of those brands in my life, I now have a network compatble BROTHER printer that's awesome,
"There's an app for that," ie the BROTHER, but you can only print pictures and soforth.
Apple, step up, open up the list of printers we can use!

  • Setting up a printer for wireless

Hi guys, I'm a newbie to the Mac system and just about to take ownership of my very first one. I'm pretty good when it comes to the Windows aspect of computing so not a novice by any means but would really appreciate some info regarding using my HP 5280 printer but converting it to wireless. It just boils down to the best way, if possible to accomplish this and what I might need. ANY help you can give would put me on the right road to what I hope is a fruitful Mac relationship.

The C5280 does not have wi-fi built in, only a USB connection. You could connect it to an Airport Extreme's USB connection and that would make it a wireless printer HOWEVER if you want wireless scanning and/or copying you are out of luck. That is the bad news.
The good news is you could replace it with a true wireless HP Printer for as little as $129 USD which has wi-fi built in (as well as a USB connection) meaning you could connect with any wireless router and have a wireless printer, scanner and copier. If you already have a wireless router this would be less expensive than getting an AE and also provide a more elegant solution.

  • Setting default printer for Black and White

I have no problem setting up my printer to print black and white only using my pc, but am having difficulty setting the default for the printer on my OSX 10.5.2. I've read the posts and can't locate where this setting is done. I even removed the printer and tried readding it without any success. So, how do I set my HP Officejet to print in black and white as a default and allow me to print in color when needed?

You could use the built-in presets facility to make a b&w setting and a color setting. Then when you print, you simply select the appropriate preset. Also, the last preset that you use will be the default next time you print, so this can also help speed up your printing.
Reply if you need instructions for creating presets.
One final point. Some applications, such as MS Office, have a 'Print One Copy' printer icon in the toolbar. When you use this shortcut, the print dialog is not opened - the file simply prints. For these types of application, the preset is not used so that job will print in color if that is the default printer function. But you can change the toolbar icon function so that it opens the print dialog instead of just printing. Again, if you need instruction then please reply.

  • Help setting up router for wireless printer

I recently purchased a wireless printer - but haven't been able to connect to the router. Router is a Linksys wireless G 2.4ghz w/ SecureEasySetup (SES).  When I activate the SES button on the router - it will connect with the printer - but the router then re sets itself, my SSID changes to the Linksys default and I loose internet connection.
How can I use SES without the router resetting?

I assume that your wireless printer does not have SES.
When you use SES, the router resets the wireless settings.  SES is designed to be used when both devices (router and wireless adapter) both have the SES feature.  If only one device has the SES feature, then you cannot use the SES button, and the non-SES device must be setup manually.
Login to your router at 192.168.1.1, and write down the following settings on a piece of paper:
    SSID
    encryption type   (probably WPA)
encryption key  (sometimes called Password or Passphrase)
Next, follow the installation procedure for your wireless printer.  At some point in the install procedure, it will ask you for the above info.
If you need more help, please state the model and version of your router.  Also, please state the make and model of your printer.

Assuming both of your computers are connected to your router, your best option is to connect the printer to the router for all to use.  If you do what you are suggesting, you will only be able to share the print function with your new notebook PC and it is hard to do.
Read starting on page 33 of the manual as to how to connect your printer to your router.  Basically, you will connect it to your router via the front of the printer (Wireless Setup Wizard), then load the software on your PC's (from here) following instructions for a "Through the Network" installation.

  • I have Windows 8.1. Just set up printer for HP Photosmart C4280. How to set up wireless?

I use Windows 8.1.  I have installed my printer, HP Photosmart C4280 All-in One.  It will print from my windows program but not from the internet.  I don't have WiFi.  Any suggestions?  I'm not very computer literate so please keep it simple.  Thank you.

Hi Lucy001, and welcome to the HP Forums.
I see you are trying to connect wireless.  Your printer does not feature wireless capabilities.  The only connectivity option this printer has is a USB cable connection.
Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Problem setting up printer for AirPort Extreme wireless printing

I have an AirPort Extreme 802.11n and I've connected my Canon MP240 printer to it via USB. However, my MacBook Pro (running OS X 10.8.4) says the printer is "offline" when it is plugged into AirPort Extreme and turned on. When I try to add it as a new printer, it recognizes it as a "Nearby Printer" and asks me to download and install the software from Apple. It then searches for the software for about a minute and gives me this error message: "Can't install the software for the Canon MP240 series because it is not currently available from the Software Update server." I've tried directly downloading the drivers from Apple's website http://support.apple.com/kb/DL899 and from Canon's website http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_s eries/pixma_mp240#DriversAndSoftware but neither work.
HOWEVER, the strangest part is if I were to connect the printer to my MacBook Pro directly via USB, it recognizes the printer and I can print no problem. This leads me to believe the drivers have already been installed onto my computer. If anyone knows how to get around this issue I'd greatly appreciate the help.

  • How to set up bluetooth on printer for wireless printing

hp officejet 100 mobile printer,  can it be setup to print from ipad2

Apple mobile devices like the iphone and ipad do not support the required bluetooth printing protocol. There is at this point in time no way to print via bluetooth with those devices. From a mac laptop, or from other bluetooth mobile devices that do support bluetooth printing it would work fine.

  • How to enable printer for wireless?

From my (1st gen.) iPad I can instruct wireless printing to my HPLaserjet CPI1525nw.
How can I add my HP Laserjet 6MP so that it too will perform wireless printing?

I went to System Pref for Print & Scan, selected the 6MP printer and checked "Share this computer on the network." (Printer sharing is on.)
Then to HP printer Network Diagnostics, followed several steps, including re-starting my cable modem (& AirportExtreme)
When finished, I get "Cannot find server.  This computer appears to have a working internet connection but cannot find "Hewlett-Packard Laserjet 6MP._pdl-datastream._tcp.local.  You may have typed the address incorrectly."
The part ",_pdl.....etc." is totally unfamiliar to me (I didn't type anything)
Location on 6MP is "My Base Station - Computer Room"
At total loss to how get around this and "find Server"
