Setting Up Printers on OS X 10.5.8

Trying to setup printers on new/used G5. OS X 10.5.8. I can't seem to find were to put the ppd files.
I've copied them from my old computer but things just aren't in the same places on the new system.

I can't guarantee that this will work, but you might try /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources.

  • Can't edit printer list, can't set up printers - Powermac G5, OSX 10.3.9

    Hi,
I recently installed a new hard drive to our Powermac G5 and reinstalled OSX 10.3.9. While we had no problems printing previously I can't even install a printer now.
When I tried to print for the first time it automatically detected the Konica Minolta Bizhub printer we have, however it used a generic post script driver.
As soon as I saw that, I tried to install the printer properly, by doing this:
Click system preferences > click print and fax > click set up printers. Clicking set up printers has no effect. Neither does selecting 'Edit printer list' from the drop down menu of printers below.
The generic postcript driver will not work for us because there are certain functions that need to be enabled using the manufacturs driver for it to print properly. Consequently when I try and print it doesn't work.
    What I've tried so far:
    1)Restarting the machine. No effect.
2)Following some advice on the Apple website I have deleted the Library/printers folder, and reinstalled the driver from the Konica website then restarted the machine. No effect.

A PowerMac G5 running the ancient Panther?
    Surely not?

  • How to set-up printers in Snow Leopard???

I installed Snow Leopard (10.6) on one of my full backup external La Cie Hard Drives. It took about an hour to install-- and everything seems fine-- I enjoy the slider in windows to get icons to 512 size.
OK BUT how to set-up my ethernet connected Apple LaserWriter 12/640PS (about 1997 vintage) and my Canon Pixma i4000R printers? They work GREAT in Leopard 10.5.8 - but I can't even find them in the Print/Fax System Preference when I start in Snow Leopard. And I don't know where to go nor what to do to find the drivers etc. etc. etc. I choose to install ALL printer drivers when I did the set-up of SL.
It was kinda automatic with 10.5 - but with 10.6 - just nothing. It finds my Canon SCANNER- but no printers...
Thanks for any comments here -- glad I've kept leopard on my internal MacBook HD!

That's an AppleTalk device. You would need to set it to use TCP/IP via DHCP. See <http://support.apple.com/kb/TA21790?viewlocale=en_US> and similar. Good luck.

Canon released a driver for that device in June this year. I'd see if that fixes your problem, or if it doesn't, I'd contact Canon tech support.

  • How to set up printers using wired ethernet without appletalk

Curse of Snow Leopard. I've spent an hour or more reading posts to no avail. I have a couple of macs on a wired ethernet network and a couple of older printers. Everything was a breeze to set up using Appletalk but now that I have a nice new Mac Pro and OS 10.6 I'm stuck.
Can someone walk me through this process step by step? Or point me to instructions I can understand? I know the printer IP addresses. I know that for the computers I'm using DHCP which I vaguely know has something to do with the internet. I get that these addresses change and that's bad for sending to a printer. I do not get how to change the printer addresses--they are programmed in to the hardware in both (old--from the '90s). I also don't have a clue what the difference is between IP printer, LPD printer, etc. I can get the system to see the printers and I can set them up but nothing prints. Yes, I could use a print server running an older OS with Appletalk but I'd really like not to have to--power, heat, noisy fans, more boxes and monitors in my workspace.

Well, I suggest you do some experimenting - try IP > HP Jetdirect protocol instead of LPD (Jetdirect doesn't require a queue name).
I have seen other queue name possibilities mentioned on the web - PS (means send to the postscript queue), PCL (means send to the PCL queue), and text (means send to an unfiltered text queue).
text may be a good first try for queue name - to see if anything will work.
Have you tried pinging that IP address to make sure it is right? Is your computer's IP address in that same subnet 192.168.1.xxx?

  • Setting up printers on New MBP

I'm changing over from a PC and the rest of the PC's in the office print fine.
I'm trying to get my Dell 5110 CN and Canon Image Runner 3320i setup to print on my new MBP. Both printers are set up for IP printing. I've tried everything I could, tried printing with "IPP" and "LDP" and neither work. I've tried generic drivers and model specific drivers. The "IPP" setting just says the printer is busy and will try again in 10 seconds and the "LDP" setting says "Unable to send trailing nul to printer: Broken pipe". Both printers have the most recent (only) drivers from their respective companies.
Am I missing a step or something?

The printers are each attached to the network one with an internal NIC and the other to a Belkin Print server. We use IP Addressing to connect to them.
I had one person say that I needed to install PS and PCL drivers for the Mac, but aren't those part of the drivers?

  • Set several printers as output devices when scheduling a job

    Hi experts,
I am working on ECC 6.0. I am scheduling background jobs through sm36 and I must configure 3 different printers as output devices, that is to say the output must go to 3 printers at the same time. I can not find how to do it. Could you please help me ?
    many thanks,
    Best regards,
    Guislain Libessart

    Hi,
I am really sorry, about those responses but it is possible. You will have to create a POOL printer for the same.
    Goto SPAD
    Create a New Printer with
Device type : It should be common for all those actual printer where the printing will happen.
    Device Class : Device Pool
(When you set this Device Class It will open one more tab "Device Pool" and the tab "Acces Method" will no more be there)
Goto the "Device Pool" Tab Add the printers to which the print will redirected to. And choose the option "Send to All Devices in Pool".
Now assign this POOL printer to the background job from which you want to print the outout to all those printers.

  • Set up printers so users automatically have printer set up upon log on?? Help

I'm in a domain environment running windows server 2012 R2 and I want to set up a printer so that users will automatically have
this printer when logging into their account. My questions is how can I achieve this? Is this only possible through Group policy?

    Hi,
I agree with Alan that both group policy and scripts can meet your requirement.
Just an additinal suggestion if you'd like to depoly the printer via group policy, you can check below links for some reference:

    Hope it helps.

  • Set up printers on Multiple Macs via ARD

    Hi team,
We have 50+ Macs managed by ARD.
We would like to know if copying com.apple.print.PrintCenter.plist for all users's Library will be enough to set up the printers for all users or if there is a different approach to do that.
Of course, all needed drivers (same version) have been installed on all ARD controlled Macs.
    Thanks!.

I keep getting this error whenever I try Dave's original link:
    The connection has timed out
The server at itech.buffaloschools.org is taking too long to respond.

  • Setting up Printers using PCL not Postscript

Up until recently we have been using JetAdmin (old package) that works great....
Looking at solaris 10 we are looking at the native printer drivers to see if we can create the types of printer queues we need.
It appears that Cups deals well with Postscript, but I don't see how it support PCL type printers.
Any documentation on this that we can follow to set up a number of printer queues.

    Thanks Ted, that worked.
Apple has got a great easy to read file on this site titled "How to Setup 300 Printers in Just Under 3 Minutes". Maybe they should update the document to include copying the 2 pref files.
    Thanks again.

  • Setting up printers

When I try to add a printer to a sparse root zone it fails with the following errors:
    mknod: Not owner
    chmod: WARNING: can't access /dev/PTRSHC189
    Addprinter error: can't find /etc/lp/interfaces/PTRSHC189
I'm about convinced that I need to mount some filesystems from the global zone, butI haven't seen any documentation on printing from zones.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks,
    mr

Open the Printer Setup Utility in the Utilities folder. Select PSU Help from the Help menu. Search for 'add printer' which should give you a list of articles one of which should provide the procedure for adding a new printer in OS X.
Note that you must only use universal binary printer drivers. If you download drivers from a printer manufacturer's site then be sure the drivers are universal binary and compatible with Intel Macs.
I also suggest that you read the User Guide before you start fiddling with the computer. You may very well find instructions on things such as adding printers. You can also find help by using the Help menu that appears in the menu of virtually all OS X applications including the Finder.

  • How do i set up printers wifi?

How do i get my hp printer catch to my wifi?

    Hi acadena08,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I see that you would like to learn how to connect your HP printer to your wireless network.
If your printer supports wireless connectivity, then please follow the steps on HP’s Wireless Printing Center – Printer Setup page.  As per the web page, if your printer supports wireless connectivity then one of the methods listed will work.
If you have any issues, please post back with the following information:
What make/model/product number of HP printer do you have? How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
How is the printer currently connected (USB cable or ethernet)?
What operating system are you using on your computer? whatsmyos.com
While trying to setup the printer with a wireless connection did you get any error messages? If yes, what was the error message and where was it displayed (computer or printer)?
    Thank you.

  • How to set up 2 P1102W printers in same household?

I have 2 P1102W printers in my house. One upstairs and one downstairs.  How do I set up printers so the computers can choose which printer to print to?

    Hello,
Thanks for the post.  During the driver installation process, you will be able to name the printer, in this scenario, since they are both the same printer, I might recommend naming one, print up and the other print down or something along those lines.  I've included a link below that may assist with this....Good Luck!

  • Unable to print with 2 identical printers unless I switch the port setting

I have 2 identical HP Deskjet 6940 printers
(I assume they are identical unless there is a way to verify the guts inside or different)
When ever I want to print to one or the other printer, I have to open into the printer properties and go to Ports and switch between USB001 or USB002.
I have tried uninstalling the printer driver and reinstalling it as well as letting Windows detect the printer driver, but it still creates another Port and one printer always insists on printing to one particular port and the other printer prints to the other.
How do I set both printers to print with the same port so I don't have to constantly go into the properties to switch them back again?

What is your operating system?  In Vista (and I think XP as well) you can go to the Printers folder, right click on the printer, Run as Admonistrator, Properties, (continue),  Ports, check the "Enable Printer Pooling" then check the boxes for the ports for the two printers.  In this case the print job will be sent to the first one that is available.
