Setting up QOS on EA6500

I would like to know how to setup QOS on the linksys EA6500 wireless router. I know about the media prioritization settings, however, thats not enough for me. I would like to setup upload and download speed limits for certain devices on my network, like, say 300kbps download for a certain device at all times. I want settings like the one's show in the following link: http://homekb.cisco.com/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=1e70e44efa914ee79f81cc1a9f20d6b5_Setting_up_QoS_o...
I cant seem to find this on the EA6500. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the response
I understand that those settings are from an old router, but have cisco removed it completely from the new routers?
Here is my problem: I have numerous devices connected the router, however my brothers and I are into online gaming, so there are 4 computers playing online at the same time (Max device prioritization=3).However, someone is sitting on youtube with their phone or tablet, or somebodies phone is updating or someone is using alot of bandwidth. This causes lag in the game. The Media Prioritization only allows for 3 devices to have high priority, i have 4 devices, and sometimes 5 which are playing online. If I could limit the speed on tablets to about 300kbps, it would be perfect and we would not lag while we playing online. On my old router I could set upstream and downstream limits for the devices with their MAC addresses, so the devices that were on youtube never really affected our gameplay. Hope this explains why Media prioritazion isn't enough for me. Maybe I am missing something here, please help.
Once again, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

  • Setting some QoS params when calling stored procedures

    Hi All,
Can I set some QoS params when calling a stored procedure like Timeout, Connection Timeout, Retry Count, etc?
    Thanks,
    Daniel

Since anything between your client and your data can fail(including connectivity to the ALDSP server), we recommend that you exercise retries and timeouts from the client. If you attempt to implement retries and timeouts within the XQuery - you open up several cans of worms.(mentioned later) There is a Query Attribute (in RequestConfig) that you can use to specify a timeout on the query. And you can implement retries with a loop (for, while etc).
If you use timeout/fail-over in your query - a number of things happen. First, if something happens outside your timeout or retry - you'll miss it (i.e. if someone unplugs one of your ALDSP servers, the fail-over in your xquery is not going to help). Second, adding timeout/fail-over function calls into your XQuery blocks query optimizations - if you put a fail-over around access to a CUSTOMER table in a database, the optimizer cannot combine that with an access to the ORDER table in the same database). Third, in ALDSP 2.5, the database connections within a query are cached, so if you have Oracle RAC, and one instance goes down - the fail-over function will fail-over to the same instance (unless you create a duplicate data source for the same RAC, but with a different name).
ALDSP does not provide means to configure retries (like ALSB does).
You can explicitly attempt to call a stored procedure mutliple times using the fn-bea:fail-over function.
You can also retry (in case of timeout) by using the fn-bea:timeout function.
Note that during a single query execution, if an instance of fail-over actually fails-over - it will not bother to evaluate the primary expression again during that query execution - it will simply evaluate the secondary expression. (The idea being that if a web service is down, then it will still be down a few milliseconds later). You can contact Customer Support if you need different functionality (there is a fail-over-retry function available in a patch).
If you are calling a replicated web-service, you can implement round-robin in a web-service handler for that web service. Ask if you want an example.

  • Need help setting up QoS on WRT160n V2

    Hello all,
I have a particular issue that has baffled me for a bit.  I did the downgrade on this router to fix the stability issues that people have reported here.  However, the dilemna I find now is when I'm playing a game on my desktop (wired connection) it will work just great until I connect a laptop (wireless connection) on the router.  What will happen then, is that the wireless connection takes all the bandwidth.
I read that I could enable QoS to set priority to certain connections or applications.  I logged into my router via 192.168.1.1 and tried to do this, but was unsuccessful.  I checked the user's guide and that was a pointless endeavor.  None of the fields match up to the user's guide.
Can anyone help me set this up so my Desktop will take priority over any of the wireless devices I use on my network?
    Thanks!

    QoS onWRT160N v2 -
    Goto QoS tab -
Enable Internet Access Priority and under Category choose the option "Mac Address".You can type any name in the field "Enter a Name" and in "MAC Address" you have to type wireless mac address of your laptop and then under priority, either choose Normal or Low.Afetr doing these settings click on "Add" button and then click Save settings.

    Hi,there,
The rule setting should be same as in Exchange 2010,you can configure it via outlook or OWA if you have full access permission. I also believe it should be something related to Repliation, would you please check the event log to see if the
AD and Exchange replication has completed.
In some cases, replication can take longer depending on how many AD sites and Exchange servers in the environment:

  • How to set simple QoS to prioritize all traffic to an IP?

I just got Verizon FiOS and the QoS page looks complicated. I just want it so that all traffic (incoming/outgoing) is prioritized towards 1 host on the network first. How can I set just this? I have no idea which device to pick or what DSCP is.

  • Need help setting up QOS on N900 router with PS4

Hello all, I am looking to use the QOS settings on the N900 to secure my connection for gaming on PS4. I followed the indications in the link below, but instead of doing port forwarding, i enabled the QOS settings on all the ports used by the PS4. Is that how its supposed to work? Should i only do port forwarding to get my desired results?  Here are the instructions i followed: http://portforward.com/networking/static-ip-ps4/ Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hello mr Trancer, Thanks for taking the time to reply to my query, but i would dare say that this does not answer it however. I very well understand that port forwarding and QOS are different things. My question is: why is it that connection still fluctuates when i create a static IP on my PS4, then apply the QOS parameters to all the ports that the PS4 uses on that IP adress. I am not a wizz when it comes to that sort of thing, but those instructions are pretty clear, and the N900 router should be good enough to do it, so why doesnt it work? My internet connection speed is 30mbps and i have done the speed tests on those websites and they confirm im getting what i pay for, so this should work yet it doesnt. Any thoughts?

I don't know for an ASR1K, it might depend on your IOS version.
That noted, generally Cisco recommends not to exceed one third of link bandwidth for LLQ.  They make this recommendation to leave sufficient bandwidth for other traffic, but another issue is, if you use too much bandwidth for LLQ, the traffic may queue itself, introducing delay and/or jitter to your VoIP traffic. In general, staying at or below one third should be great, going to 50% is probably okay, but going above two thirds is when you're really likely to start to self queue.  I.e. if your VoIP needs more than about half to two thirds of your link bandwidth, you probably start to need to consider obtaining more bandwidth.

  • SRW switches: Setting Qos (Cos) on VLANs.. Help

    Hello,
I'm new on this board, but maybe someone knows the answer to my question.
This is my situation. I work at a school and our network has an srw2048 as a rootswitch. Only servers and other switches are connected to it. Two of those switches are srw2024's via fibre optic connection. We have 5 VLANS installed in the network.
Ok. Now the question. We want to install security camera's in VLAN 5 (only camera's and NAS are on that VLAN) that transport live feed from 2 camera's from the 2 srw2024's to the rootswitch srw2048 and up to the NAS box. To make sure the live data is guarantied i want to put QOS on VLAN 5 for all the 3 switches with highest priority. In de datasheet Linksys recalled that they could handle Qos on VLAN, but i can't figure out where to configure that in the switch.
Can someone help me out on this one?
     Marco Schaeffer

As what I know, you can’t set the QoS of the switches via VLAN selection but only through port selection. If you didn’t manipulate the WRR Weight and the CoS (Class of Service) to Queue settings, the CoS value 1- 2 are the lowest and the 6-7 are the highest priority.
To set this up, you will need to go to the web utility of the switch and go to the “QoS” tab. Under the “CoS Settings” sub- category, you can configure CoS of each port in the “Port to CoS” setting. With this you can designate the prioritization of each port and you can make CoS 6 or 7 in those ports that are members of VLAN 5.

  • QoS Setting

    Hello There,
I was wondering if anybody could tell me how to set up QoS on WRVS 4400N, because when I try set it up on download and upload bandwidth there are nothing changes in traffic connection in fact my bandwidth become smaller.
    Btw my connection from ISP
    DL 6 MBps
    UL 1,5 MBps.
    Thank

    Cablak,
Remember that you will only be able to control the traffic while it is on your equipment, once it leaves your network it is up to the ISP's to priorities the traffic how they want. You could police the traffic meaning when you are receiving traffic on the WAN when it is being placed into the buffers it would allow some types of traffic through with little to no buffer and buffer other traffic if needed due to the speed of the LAN, However usually the bandwidth coming in from the ISP in your case 6Mbps is much slower than the LAN at a minimum of 10Mbps usually 100 or 1000Mbps. There should be no reason why traffic is being held up getting onto your network.
The traffic going to the Internet you could QoS and shape the traffic as it leaves your network, for you 100Mbps to 1,5Mbps.  You could give lets say voice traffic 512Kbps guaranty and the rest of the bandwidth to other forms of data, but you will need to do research on your traffic. If you set a protocols priority too low it might cause packet retransmission if it is TCP and cause more bandwidth being taken up vs less. Also if it is UDP traffic it might be dropped completly and stop working.
Make sure you are manually changing your Up and Down to match what you are getting from the ISP. Also remember if you priorities lets say voice over Data then you will see slower speed tests because you told it to.
I don't know your settings, or the type of traffic you have on your network, to know why you are seeing the results you are seeing but I hope this helps,

  • QOS: WRT330N Help Setting Up

I just purchased this gaming router and was wondering how to set up QOS so that when Im playing Battlefield 2142 or CSS and someone in my network decides to log on to Myspace (usually causes ping to go up to 600 ;l) I wont experience lag.

you can find the QOS settings on the router web ui .. access the router using http://192.168.1.1 . the default password is admin
on the web interface , click on the "Applications and Gaming" tab and then go to the "QOS" subtab to change the settings .

  • AAA Override - QOS above what's set on WLAN

Hey guys, I think I already know the answer but thought I'd run this by the community.  I'm working on configuring a PEAP secured WLAN that will be shared by our Data and VoIP wireless.  Right now the WLAN's QOS is set at Silver and I'm using AAA Override to set the Cisco 7925s on our voip interface and set the QOS level to Platinum.  The problem is that I'm getting tons of the following errors:
VoIP Call Failure: '44:2b:03:xx:xx:xx' client, detected by 'xxxxxxx' AP on radio type '802.11a'. Reason: 'Call failed: TSPEC QOS Policy does not match'.
If I change this WLAN's QOS to Platinum the error goes away.  My thought is that I may have to configure the default QOS to Platinum and override all other devices to Silver - I'd rather not do this as more devices are affected by that change.  If anyone knows or has run into something that I might be missing I'd be happy to listen to any suggestions.
    Thanks all!

Well whatever you set the WLAN QoS level, that is the highest allowed on the WLAN. You can't mark WMM higher but you can limit it. So set your QoS level as Platinum and make sure you drop the QoS value on non voice clients to bronze.

  • EA6500 and Media Prioritization

Just got my EA6500 today along with the WUMC710 media connector.  I used the media connector to hook my Roku 3 up to for now.
After setting up the router, I put the Roku 3, the media connector and my son's Xbox as a priority under media prioritization - which I believe is a fancy word for QoS.
Anyway, after setting the QoS up, my router (which is hardwired to my main PC) had knocked my Internet speed down by 20Mbps!
I disabled media prioritizatioin and the speed is back up to (or fairly close to) 50Mbps.  Why does this setting slow the speed down so much?
I checked the router's firmware and it is the latest.
Does anyone know if the prioritization feature actually works?  I had this QoS setting on my older TrendNet router and it screwed things up too.  There are 2 Roku's in the house and I'd like to make sure the main one has priority.  But if slower Internet speeds are the consequence, then forget it.
    Thanks for any replies..

Hi. QoS will prioritize multimedia devices in the network. For QoS/WMM to work properly without dropping the connection for other devices in the network, make sure that the other devices in the network have an updated driver that supports 802.11e. And you also need to specify the correct and actual bandwidth you're getting from the ISP. To do this, connect your main computer to the modem and do SpeedTest. Take note of the actual Upload and Download speeds then type it on the router under QoS/WMM.

  • VoIP QoS for Site-to-Site Tunnel

    Hi all,
I need some help with setting up QoS for VoIP between two Cisco ASA 5505 with Site-to-Site VPN.
There is no need for bandwith reservation, only DSCP 46 (EF) should be highest and DSCP 26 second highest queue and the rules should only apply to a site-to-site VPN.
Usually i try to configure the ASAs via ASDM and found out in the Cisco Documentations how to setup QoS for the DSCP bits with a Service Policy and how to set up QoS for a Site-to-Site VPN (Service Policy Rule -> Traffic Match). But how do i configure the QoS for a DSCP bit to only apply to a Site-to-Site Tunnel? And how do i configure different priorities for the two DSCP bits, is this defined by the order of Service Policies?
The QoS has to be enabled on both ASAs for the inside interface?
    Thanks in advance
    Tobias

    Hi Collin,
ok so from the document i think this has to be added on both ASAs to prioritize DSCP 46. Could you have a quick look if this is all i need?
    class-map voice_traffic
    match dscp ef
    class-map data
    match tunnel-group <Tunnel Name>
    match flow ip destination-address
    policy-map voice_policy
    class voice_traffic
      priority
    class Data
     police output 200000 37500
    service-policy voice_policy interface outside
But there is still the question how two configure another DSCP bit for priority 2, I could not find out how this is done, neither CLI nor ASDM. Any ideas?

    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-4500-series-switches/white_paper_c11-539588.html
    "Ingress QoS: Default Actions
First and foremost, QoS does not need to be enabled on the Supervisor Engine, it is on by default in compliance with the MQC construct.
When a packet arrives at an interface, there are two options to take into consideration: is there a policy attached or not? If the packet arrives with or without a marking and there is not a policy attached to the interface, packets will flow through the switch untouched. There are no questions as to where the packet came from or if it has a valid marking. If the packet arrives with or without a marking, and a policy is attached to the interface, the packet will only then be subject to the policy classification."
    And the config guide

    Hope this helps

That message is logged when you have QOS disabled. Check http://docs.sun.com/source/817-1831-10/agsnmp.html#wp999778 for information on enabling QOS.
However, the server should not crash/restart. Please describe the steps to reproduce the problem.
