Setting up RAID on X58 Pro-e MB

Current setup as far as HDD's go:
SATA1: WD Raptor - contains OS: Win7 64
SATA2: WD Raptor - used as a scratch disk for photo editing
SATA3: WD 500GB - used for storing data
SATA4: DVD ROM
SATA5: DVD ROM
SATA6: empty
SATA7: empty
Current drives and connections are all SATA II.
I picked up 3 WD 1TB drives (SATA III) to be used in RAID 5 configuration, which gives me 1 more drive than I have SATA connections. If I can implement the RAID the 500GB drive will not be needed, which would bring me back down to 7 drives all together.
I've read most of the threads on this section that pertain to RAID, so I've picked up a few things here and there. I've also downloaded the manual and read Appendix C. Within Appendix they gives instruction for "if you are installing the OS follow thses directions". The 'if' appears to indicate the is another option, but I have found no directions for cases where the OS is already installed, which leads to question #1: Can the on-board RAID be setup without re-installing Windows 7? I would like to avoid re-installing if possible.
I'va also looked into an add-on card for RAID, which I could get in the SATA III flavor matching the addition drives that will be used for the RAID. I'm under the assumption the add-on card could be installed without re-installing the OS. The downside that I've read is the add-on card slows down the boot sequence in addition to spending more money. How is the boot sequence for the on-board RAID for this MB?
If I choose to use the on-board RAID how should the drives be configured (what SATA connection)? Can the OS drive be part of the RAID controller (SATA1-6) even thou it's not a RAID drive? Can the DVD ROM's be in the RAID controller. Am I better off getting an add-on card for internal SATA connections (non RAID card) for misc drives? Does the OS drive and atleast one DVD ROM need to be somewhere on SATA1-7 for booting purposes? I'm just not sure how the drives should be setup.
I just would like to see what my options are before going any farther and spending more money or time.

This should do the trick (assuming that all of your memory modules are good)
Make sure you have the latest BIOS revision for your motherboard - latest version is 8.F released on 3/19/2011.  If you have an older version, flash you BIOS to the latest version.
Now - enter your BIOS setup and navigate to the Cell Menu and open it up
Select Advance DRAM Configuration and make the following changes;
1N/2N Memory Timing - Change from Auto to 2N
Cas Latency (CL) - 8
tRCD - 8
tRP - 8
tRAS - 24
Now select the Advanced Memory Setting and change from Auto to Manual, this will open up all of the secondary memory timings - don't touch anything in here other than tRFC setting
tRFC - 103 for now, it can be tightened later.  This setting doesn't affect performance too much, but can have a huge impact on stability and detection of all your memory
And a few voltage tweaks;
Manually set QPI Voltage to 1.25v
Manually set DRAM Voltage to 1.65v
Save all your changes (F10) escape and reboot.  See if that does the trick.

  • X58 Pro - Board or memory bad?

    Hello all... Long time MSI user going back to a 6163 Pro w/300a@600! Those were the days . Current set up is an X58 Pro (purchased March '09), i7 920 2.6GHz not o/c, 6GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3@1333, Corsair TX650w p/s, ATI 4550HD video card. Not a gamer, mainly use the machine for the usual + HTPC.
    Recently getting an error at boot up in RED about my previous overclocking attempt has failed and default values have been applied. Hmmm, Like I mentioned, I have not ever o/c'd the machine so puzzled as to why I was receiving this error. I go into the BIOS and reset everything and it seems to run fine for a while and then get the same error again, reset everything, runs fine for a while and the process repeats.
    One of my hard drives recently failed as well. A 2TB Western Digital with all my movie files . RMA'd it and received another from WD. After installing the new drive and trying to start the computer, it tries to start, lights up for a dew seconds and then turns off. Tries to start again by itself and turns off again. I couldn't get the machine to boot, even after clearing the CMOS with the power disconnected and battery removed.
    Thinking it may be a memory problem, I've been testing the memory w/memtest per the MSI USB Flash tool and have found that when all three sticks are installed the machine will not boot. It tries to start, lights up and then turns off, lights up again for a few seconds and turns off. No beep errors sound. So I tried each stick individually in the first black slot A0. One stick will allow the machine to boot and runs memtest with the memory @1333 w/no errors. One will allow the machine to boot but memtest locks up w/the stick @1333. If I restart the machine it will boot and run memtest @1066 w/no errors. The third stick won't let the machine boot at all and just goes through the start/stop loop.
    I'm guessing the memory is to blame, so I've RMA'd all three sticks w/Corsair. Hope to receive the replacements soon and hopefully that cures my problem. Am I on the right track or do you think the board has problems as well? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions...

    You followed the right process in terms of testing the memory and I supect one of those modules is the culprit.
    The mem controller of that CPU natively supports 1066 and I would suggest that when you do get the new memory, that you manually set it to run at 1066. Some mem controllers will accommodate 1333, while others may want increased voltage to do that.

  • MSI X58 Pro - I'm having trouble setting up my first Raid 0 Array

    Hey guys!  I have an i7 920, X58 Pro, 3x2GB DDR3, Radeon 5850, 640GB WD Black (Windows 7 64 bit + applications) and 1TB Samsung F3 (backup) system and I'm having trouble setting up a raid 0 array.  I recently decided to purchase two additional 1TB Samsung F3 harddrives in order to create a raid 0 array, while still keeping my original two harddrives separate.  I installed the new harddrives today, installed the JMicron drivers that were on the drivers disk that came with my motherboard, went into the bios, and changed it from IDE to RAID.  I then went into the raid bios, selected the two new harddrives and selected raid 0, saved everything and tried to load Windows and Windows refuses to boot up.  I got an option to try fixing Windows but that didn't end up fixing anything.  Finally, I was forced to go back into the bios and switch it from RAID back to IDE just to get Windows to boot up again.  Does anyone know what I need to do in order to get this raid 0 to work?  Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

    Perhaps create a software RAID? You can do it in Windows through Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Computer Management --> Disk Management.

  • Mac Pro shuts down after setting up RAID (HELP!)

    So, I recently purchased a rev 1 Mac Pro and decided to setup a RAID using 4 750gb WD drives. I am not using a RAID card, simply using Disk Utility.
    I first combined drives in bays 1 and 2 (striped) and then combined drives in bays 3 and 4 (striped) to give me essentially two 1.5tb drives.
    I then created a mirrored RAID using the two striped raids so that I would have the speed of a striped RAID with the safety of a mirrored RAID.
    Once I did this, it showed up as one hard disk on my desktop (I was booting with an external). I then cloned my external drive to the new RAID disk on the desktop, and did so successfully.
    However, now when I try to boot from the RAID, it chimes, the Apple appears, and then the Mac Pro shuts down. I tried holding down option and all 4 drives appear. I tried booting from a different drive, and the same thing happens. I should also note that the firmware bar flashes on the screen before shutting down (looks like a really long pill).
    Any ideas? Does it sound like I did something wrong? I hate to start from scratch, as it takes all night to clone my external drive to the Mac Pro. Thanks for any help.

    Hello, Hatter. Thanks so much for the information. I went with the information from the Macworld article (I believe) "RAIDing the Mac Pro" and according to it this setup was supposedly a great idea. But, yes, it's not working out so perhaps not in this case.
    So, I have four brand new 750gb Caviar Black drives installed. If I understand you correctly, I should stripe 3 disks together, then use a 4th as backup (using Time Machine?). So, if I use the drives I have, I'll have a striped configuration that gives me 2.25TB of space, and a 750gb hard drive for backup. That technically would work for now, as I have about 660gb of data on the system (although in the future I'd need to swap out that 4th drive for a 2TB.
    So, if that is what you're suggesting, would you mind telling me exactly how I do that? I think I understand, but just want to make sure as this is my first Mac Pro and first time setting up a RAID. Thank you so much for your response.
    p.s.: I'm guessing I'll need to do a fresh start and clone my external drive all over again, correct?

    I'm currently waiting on my SSD's that I want to use in a raid 0 configuration, but I'm a complete newbie when it comes to running raid on these things.
    Currently I have HDD's and DVD on SATA contact 1, 2 and 3.
    My BIOS version is 7.3.
    I'm planning on installing Windows 7 64-bit on the Raid 0 configuration.
    Can someone give me a step by step instruction on how to setup a Raid 0 with 2x SSD?

    Hello, I was hoping for some advice on this rig, to overclock or not, etc; Im a bug gamer, so its really about gaming to the max 1st,

    MSI X58 Pro-E (In the box, just arrived, do not know bios yet)

    Thermalright extreme e-120 cpu cooler (Jesus that thing is huge)
    Im going to re-use this stuff:
    2x500gb seagate HDD sata raid 0 for performance
    Antec 900 case Lots of fans...nice
    DVD RW
    Corsair TX750W Says 60A on a single +12v rail (I think its good, only @ a year or so old)
    SB X-FI Fatality gamer sound card
    So, basically should I look to OC this setup a bit? maybe to like 3 GHz or so? If so, whats the "safest" method to OC? I have an excellent cpu cooler and a case that has a ton of fans in it so hopefully I should be good for cooling.
    Do I just OC the CPU? Will the memory run at its top speeds with this chip? or do I need to do something for the memory also, I recally for some reason on my current PC with a 780i SLI evga mobo I had to set the ram timins manually, they were never picked up properly on "auto", will I have that also on the MSI board?
    I hope Ive provided enough information to get started.

    Yes, why not?
    Do not be aiming for 3 GHz, you can run that on stock voltage.  4 GHz is more within the grasp of the TRUE 120.

    There's only one way to overclock - overclock...   There is no safe way of doing it...

    The only way you can overclock a CPU without overclocking anything else is with an extreme edition CPU.  (The i7 965, for example.)  It's overclocked by raising the CPU multiplier, not the baseclock frequency.
    With regular CPUs, you overclock the baseclock, which overclocks the CPU core, CPU uncore, memory, and QPI frequency.

  • MSI x58 ProE and Corsair 12GB (3x4GB) RAM Issues

    Greetings!
    New poster here with a question that I cannot seem to find an answer to anywhere. I've looked over the forums but have had no luck figuring it out. My goal is to identify the culprit and replace the appropriate parts.
    I built this computer in 2009 with the intention of doing OpenCL/CUDA computing and handle all my multimedia. At the time, 6GB DDR3 RAM (3x2GB) was about all I could afford. The machine works great, but lately, attempting to do some video and image processing has been hitting limits on my available RAM. I also want to run a linux VM or two. I thought I would order the Corsair 3x4GB DDR3 kit from NewEgg and not have any problems upgrading. I didn't have any plans of running the 6 and 12 GB sets simultaneously because I thought there would be some sort of memory density/timing issues.
    New RAM desired: Corsair Dominator with DHX Pro Connector and Airflow II Fan - DDR3 Memory Kit (CMP12GX3M3A1600C9)
    Old RAM in system: Corsair Dominator with DHX Pro Connector - 6GB Triple Channel (CMP6GX3M3A1600C8)
    Request 1: Can I mix the 6 and 12 GB sets (for a total of 18GB) if I keep the density the same across each set of slots? There are 3 black (primary) and 3 blue (secondary). I was thinking of putting the 12GB in black, and 6GB in Blue.
    I placed the order, received it, and went to install it yesterday. Took the existing 6GB out and dropped the 12GB in, saw that BIOS recogized it with the right timings, and proceeded to boot Windows up. Blue-screen at the very first Windows logo. I thought "well that stinks, let's check to see if the RAM is defective through MemTest." Downloaded an ISO of 4.2, fired it up, and it hung right away. Hung in the "Address Test, Own Address" test. Big fat A note: BIOS and MemTest both recognized the full capacity of the sticks.
    My next thought was "Well, one of them might be bad, let's try to find out which one." I individually put each one in the first slot on the board, ran MemTest, and showed 0 problems on any tests with each of them.
    Summary thus far: Individually, each 4GB stick works perfectly. In combination, they fail. The full 3x2GB set works perfectly.
    My next theory was that my board might be bad (even though the 3x2GB set in the same slots has no issues). Knowing that the first slot was good with every bit of memory I put in there, I left a 4GB stick in slot 1, and dropped a 4GB stick in slot 2. MemTest hung again. Thinking it might have been that one stick, I put the other one in there, and it hung also. So, slot 2 looks suspect. Move the sticks to 1&3, and they look fine, but that still leaves me missing 4GB of RAM.
    I've followed advice and re-seated the CPU, looked for bent pins (none found), and tried manually setting the timings to the 9-9-9-24 that is printed on the sticks. No luck with any of that.
    Request 2: So, my question to you is what am I missing? I feel like the board is the problem, due to the slot 2 problem with the 4GB sticks. However, my 2GB sticks don't have any problems at all in the same slots. Could the 4GB sticks require a little more power that my board might not be pushing out (the board is labeled at 1.5V, the sticks are labeled 9-9-9-24, 1.65V)? Would a bent pin be causing this that my eyes just cannot see? I read somewhere that a guy had a pin that was 0.25mm off that was causing his problems.
    Or should I be looking at the memory? The 3x2GB set works fine, but the 3x4GB does not.
    I'm not sure what my next step should be other than replace the RAM first, motherboard second. The RAM I just got, so I could RMA it if I knew exactly what the problem was. The motherboard is approaching 3 years old and presumably is out of warranty. I wouldn't mind replacing it, but I don't want to spend money right now if I don't have to.
    I don't have a second machine to test on, although I'm trying to locate one (most of my friends don't build custom PCs). I have also tried putting the 6GB in the black slots and 12GB in the blue, but the machine doesn't work with that configuration either.
    Request 3: Could someone explain how I could aim for 1066MHz on my RAM? I read that on the X58 Pro-E that this resolves most problems with random bluescreens. When I try to do this, I get lost in the numbers/options within the BIOS.
    Anything else I might be missing? I'm out of ideas

    As you can see, above 1066MHz you need to overclock both the processor and the mainboard.
    I think for your config the best shot is 3 x 4GB DDR3-1333 (9-9-9-24 at 1.55-1.60V)

  • Where can I get an original x58 Pro-E IOH chipset heatsink assy?

    Recently built an i7 gaming rig and like everyone else had high nb temps which I'm not very keen on.
    I had a Thermalright HR-05 from another build (took it out of my old system and replaced it with the original HS and sold that PC leaving me with it) that I'll use on the nb, but covering the sb will be difficult since I'm running 2 4870 cards in the pci-e slots, covering the sb and not being able to move the cards to free space above it. I don't really want to get something too fancy for the sb (the sli version of the nb cooler) as it doesn't seem to get hot.
    I was thinking along the lines of using the HR-05 for the nb, cutting up the heat-pipe of the original chip-set HS and just using it on the sb as temps and clearance will be fine. Problem of course is if ever need to rma the board, I'm screwed. I've read all the posts about issues with the hot IOH temps and solutions, and this is the way I'll think I'll go.
    Currently my temps are up around 90 on load, and that's in winter! It's around 10 C in my room right now and when summer comes around with 30 C that's gonna shoot up!
    Long story short, does anybody know where I can get an original X58 Pro-E IOH heatsink assy that I can keep safe in case I need it (touch wood) 

    I have thought about that, saw it under some suggestions to fix high temps. But they have that shoved toward the NB. My HR-05 will take care of the NB (plus some serious OC in sumemr which i want to do) I just need a HS for the southbridge , and it seems that the only HS that has enough clearance and fits into the MB with long cards in xfire or sli is the original SB HS, which leaves me wanting to cut the orginal HS up to reuse on the SB and finding another complete HS just in case.

    im trying to overclock my cpu to a nice place and in my mind its 4ghz  and in my mind its like use 22X200=4ghz=happy me
    now realty is when i do that and leave every thing on auto the MB puts too much volts on the V.core like 1.4+ and thats bad for me i do have a good cooler thermaltake frio  220w
    so i tried lowering Blck and stuff and i googled stuff and ended up with a good 21X175 with 0 on the V.core only to download a program named cpu-tweaker and nehalemcalc so bare with me the question is coming  so i setup the nehalemcalc to 225X21 qpi multi X18 Uncore multi X12 mem multi X6
    only to get a warning saying (instability may occur when QPI clock is greater than 4000MHz) and it got me wondering how much did i set my Multi`s so i went and checked but i did not find them in the cell menu so i opened the cop-twaeker   to look some stuff up  and i found
    21X175=good i put that there
    7x7x7x19=ram timing good too i put them my self
    Uncore X16= bad read under
    QPI X18= good after i read in 4.8 mode its set to X18
    RAM X3 = i guess its good i put it there too
    so i opened up the nehalemcalc 1.3 and used these numbers i found only to read some thing i did not find in cell menu mem multi witch was 6 as minimal
    number in the program so whats wrong here how come its giving me deferent numbers in the 2 programs and in cpu-z its showing FSB:Dram  2:6
    so where do i find adjust that ratio found in the cpu-z or the uncore multi for that matter !
    sorry i know its crazy but i really think  thats why i cant go pass the 4Ghz dream BTW i need to add Volts to the cpu as from 3.8  :( so it just might help

  • X58 Pro a Lemon? IOH cooling insufficient.

    Is the X58 Pro motherboard a Lemon?  The x58 cooling solution on the board is inadequate by far.  Very soon, MSI will introduce a replacement board called the X58 Pro-E which has a different heat sync on the Dr. MOS and X58 chipset.  They will no doubt ignore all of us with the Lemon.  Which is totally unacceptable and enough to make me not want buy any MSI products ever in the future!
    The only solution to cooling your IOH on the X58 Pro is to replace the useless MSI heat sync or run a small fast fan on to them. 
    Here are the possibilities;
    1) with stock cooler IOH is 72C at idle
    2) Running a 40mm 4000RPM fan ($12.00) directly onto the chips set from above the chipset, the IOH drops to 55C.
    3) Replacing the sock solution with 2 Thermalright HR-05-IFX (23.00 each) the IOH drops to 38C*
    *note: In my Antec Sonata case the HR-05-IFX are directly in the path of the 120mm fan exhaust that is mounted to the hard drive cage. This fan, draws air through the bottom of the case, over the hard drives and out over the motherboard.  This is a Noctuna 120M fan that is running at 900 RMP (Ultra Quiet Mode).  This fan blows directly onto the HR-05-IFX  and helps dissipate the heat build up on the fins of the HR-05-IFX.  With this fan turned off, the IOH temp starts out at 39C but quickly climbs into the 45C range with heavy use.
    Using the 3rd solution, I can go up to a 190 MHz  base CPU clock rate which makes the 2.6GHz i970 a  3.8Ghz CPU.  The max I can go with memory is 1500MHz using OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB)  rated at 1600 (OCZ3G1600LV6GK). Anything above that the board is not stable.  At a base clock of 210 MHz, the board hangs-up in boot.  It goes through the BIOS POS T and the screen says "WAIT..." and nothing happens.

    by the way, be careful when you remove the stock IOH cooler.  Mine was pretty much stuck to the board.  I had to yank it off with a set of pliers.  Upon taking it off, part of the problem was clearly apparent.  There was enough silicon grease (or should I say hardened cement) to drown an elephant.   The grease must be the cheapest kind you can find because it had caked up into a thick layer of plastic and I had to scrape off heavy scabs.  I wish I had taken a picture.
    Once you do this upgrade, all of us should send the $50 bill to MSI.  They should give all of us MSI X58 Pro uses a $50 rebate for selling us a Lemon.

    So far, not any X58 Pro boards have burned up an X58 (IOH) that I've read about. 72c is well below the 100c limit, so those that choose not to redo the heatsinks need not panic as long as sustained full loads are below 100c.
    Out of the 3 X58 Pros I've helped build, no 'Lemons' noted among them. Just started build #4. I would say your 3.8 on the CPU & 1500 on the mem. is pretty decent. The CPU only natively supports 800/1066 memory, so what's the complaint? 1333 & 1600 are 'OC' speeds. Your mem. sticks may be rated 1600, but doubt they are chipped more than 1333.
    What was your specific system issue that required a bios update?
    Is the X58 Pro-E a 'replacement' board as you call it, or a new introduction board to the line-up? Have you been ignored so far over your 'self proclaimed' lemon?

  • Quick Short Test & Review of X58 PRO-E

    Here is an upgrade version to the entry level X58PRO motherboard that MSI has to offer before. Model name is “X58PRO-E” and this was introduced to solve the High IOH Temp that other users encountered before with the X58 Pro. The chipset & VRM heatsinks are now screwed on the board thus making a good contact for better & fast heat dissipation.     Below are quick short tests on how good the board can handle high memory clock speeds even though in the manual it only says there that the highest OC for the memory speed is up to 1600mhz only for the motherboard.

    I was able to get a good bclock 222 also with the i7 920 C0 I have. I guess if I used a D0 stepping instead , I can push the bclock higher.
    Final Thoughts & Conclusion
    I was very impressed on the capabilities of this entry level X58 motherboard can do. A few tweaks on the cell menu I was able to get high memory clocks and all were stable. You would also notice on one of my shots running the memory @ 2100mhz, my uncore ratio turned to a high of 4200mhz speed. All of these were done all on air. 
    Pros :
    - Cheap Entry level X58 Board
    - Easy to overclock
    - Support SLI and Crossfire
    - No issue on Bigger aftermarket CPU cooler
    - 90 degrees placement of SATA & IDE ports
    Cons :
    - No SLI Bridge included in the Box

  • To RAID or not to RAID: 4Tb Mac Pro Server

    Hi,
    Hope someone can steer in the right direction.
    I've got a Mac Pro Server. It has 4 x 1Tb HDs and a 6TB Drobo S for backup. It has a RAID card.
    My query is, as I need at least 2Tb space instantly to store Final Cut Pro files, etc. Won't be using the server to actually edit anything, or any other tasks.
    a) Do I set up RAID and get only approx. 2TB of usable space - therefore filling it up straightaway
    b) Leave it as 4 separate 1Tb harddrives (to get most space)and let the Drobo do its BeyondRAID thing? (At the moment the data is all a Mac and on single Firewire external drives).
    c) If I go RAID (it's brand new so I'm at the setup stage). Which is the best option for me?
    d) If I do RAID, should I partition 100gb on drive 1, for OSX and programs, etc and then RAID the rest? I guess that means I have to reinstall the whole system? Or can I 'live' partition on a Mac these days?
    The Mac Server is a fairly temp solution as we're getting a proper SANs this year, but at present the data lives on a Mac tower (with MyStudio backup drive) and also on a few Firewire drives.

    1. With only 4 drives, raid 5 should be fine. That gives 3TB (1TB for redundancy).
    2. A backup is more important than raid.
    3. The raid setup for the san can be tricky. Depending on the size, you may not want raid 5, but 50, or 6. Consider: A 16TB raid 5 array will need to read all bits CORRECTLY to rebuild a failed raid 5 array. What is the bit error rate of modern disks? Approximately 1 bit for 16TB-20TB of data. So a large raid 5 san may fail to rebuild. Got a backup? This is why they created raid 6.
    4. I would setup an extra partition, maybe 100GB, on the raid array. Why? I find it handy, if you need to check the disks, you can reboot from that 100GB partition and check the big partition. Also, you can have 2 different versions of the os on the raid array. You will find this useful, when a update comes out that breaks some things, you can run off the older os and you don't have to live with the broken functionality.

  • Stalled at 3.95ghz w/ X58 Pro

    I have a X58 Pro motherboard that's currently clocked at 3.95ghz.  I'm real happy with the performance so far, compared to my GA-EX58-UD3R, but I'd like to push it a little farther. As the heading states, I'm stalled at 3.95ghz. If someone out there has a X58 Pro or knowledge of the BIOS settings, maybe you could help me push this beast to 4ghz. I'm running the following settings:

    Yep, I pushed the x20 multiplier and while I could get to 3.8+ghz, it wasn't as stable as the x19 multi. I'm aware that the QPI needs to be under 1.36v but I noticed that the BIOS never gives me a warning (pink) sign. Why is that? It didn't seem to matter so I will drop that back to 1.34v. I was hoping there was some "magical" setting that I wasn't tweaking  fat chance, huh? haha
    I was hoping to run 4ghz without raising the Vcore but it appears that it's inevitable. I might try to bump it and see how far I can get and leave the 3.95ghz setting for 24/7 operation.

  • Random BSOD X58 Pro E new build

    Hi everyone, I hope you can help me.  I'm new to the custom built PC realm so forgive my ignorance on some of the finer points.  I have searched and can't seem to find, or perhaps understand a solution to this problem I'm having.  So, with the obligatory "please don't hit me" stuff out of the way here's the deal….
    This PC was purchased from ibuypower with a factory 20% overclock.  BSODs have appeared randomly since I unpacked it.  Initially it was thought these screens were due to an unstable overclock, however they have persisted even with optimized defaults enabled.  They usually appear during the first boot of the day, during light duty internet browsing, or doing nothing much at all.  The BSOD has never appeared under a heavy load such as flight sim, photoshop, or lightroom (overclocked or not the PC has performed flawlessly running these programs).  For example I ran flight simulator for three hours the other night at 3.85GHz with my RAM at 1600MHz and it ran beautifully.  As you can see below however (info compiled from the program “whocrashed”) it has happened a ton.   These have occurred pretty equally in OC and default configuration.  I've ran the default win 7 memory diagnostic, LinX, and memtest86+ with no errors found so far.  I hope I have provided enough information for a diagnosis, if most it is useless then I apologize and I will do my best to track down whatever additional info may be required to get to the bottom of this.  Thank you in advance.

    With optimized defaults enabled the DRAM voltage is set to auto and it doesn't appear I can change it..please advise.  Also, the BSODs have gotten much worse now and I haven't changed anything, they now occur at any time.  I've probably gotten six in the past three hours.  I guess the computer knows I have reached out to you guys and it's peeved
    When the OC is enabled (hasn't been for several days now, but BSODs still occured when it was) the DRAM voltage was set to 1.64v per "tech support" they said that setting it to 1.65v would actually be 1.66v (not sure how that is, but that's what they said).
    And to your last question their OC settings were +0.100 on the CPU voltage and 160 on the base clock.
