Setting up replacement ipad

Apple replaced my 2,5 ipad mini today as the calender was not opening and screen was flashing between my screen lock page and black page with white apple icon. Should I set up the replacement with back up or set up as new??

Thanks Amish Cake!
I was just concerned incase something in the back up might cause probs with the new i pad but more lightly I just had a faulty one so thinK I will use the back up .

I recently got a new iPad from Apple, everything was stored to the cloud now I have set up new iPad i have nothing. Apps can b replaced pics cannot. Can anyone help me please?

Sorry to read about this. A relative had a similar experience. Just a few things she was told to do. Hopefully one will get your content back. Make sure you are logged in to the same Apple Account the last iPad was. You should have a recent backup that can be downloaded to have your new iPad look like the one you replaced. When I changed from one iPad to another I used my last backup and all my apps and photos reloaded with no issues. This was done over wifi.
Another way is connecting your iPad to a computer that is logged into your iTunes account. It will show what backups you have available to download To your iPad. Again hopefully a recent backup was made of your iPad with all your most recent content.
In my cloud settings I made sure any photos I took were uploaded to the cloud to be downloaded automatically to my iPhone and visa versa.
If you had your photos setup to be uploaded to the cloud they should still be there. You just need to be logged into your Apple ID and your new iPad and I see no reason you cannot access them. Hopefully it is a simple fix.
    good luck.  Jeff

  • Why does my replacement ipad refuse to accept my gmail password?

I restored content to my replacement ipad from the cloud.  But in trying to set up my gmail accounts, I get a "wrong password" error notice whenever I enter my (correct) password.  Can anyone help?

try again.  delete the account, and start from scratch.  pay real close attention to the password entry, including capitals and any special characters.
At one point i got real frustrated with that same issue.  to this day I do not know what the issue was.  but i ended up going into my google account from a pc, and changing the password to a new one, then readded the gmail account to the pad and all was well.  (you then need to updaye any other devices using the same g mail account)

  • Just got replacement ipad mini, got told it would be backed up on iCloud, not working?

I have just got a replacement ipad mini and at the apple store I got told to wait 1 hour for the iCloud backup to work which I have and I've gone to turn on the new replacement and back it upto my iCloud but it's telling me there is no backup available?

During setup of your new iPad you reached the point where you can restore to an iCloud backup right?
Did you use your correct iCloud ID when setting up the new iPad?
Is this the same iCloud ID that was used at the store to make the backup?

  • I just got my replacement ipad last night. when i got home and tried the applications, there is no sound. but the videos do have sounds.

i just got my replacement ipad last night. when i got home and tried the applications, there is no sound. but the videos do have sounds. i already checked the settings. i cannot find what's causing it. please help.

You may have already checked the settings, but it still sounds like you have system sounds muted.
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • HT2371 I started to set up new ipad, I accidentally selected portuguese although I want the ticked default english that showed on first screen. Localisation screen came up (in portuguese) but don't want to continue in portuguese. How to start over? Helpes

Started set up on ipad. When I went to second screen, showing list of more language preferences I accidentally touched portuguese and this must have replaced the default, ticked, English option. Next screen, localisation, came up (in Portuguese) but I don't want to proceed in this language. how can I start over again. The ipad therefore is not set up with normal screen of apps etc. therefore I cannot change language back using this screen.
I also tried to Restore my Ipad to factory settings via itunes. You must update to latest version of Ipad software as part of this. The download is about 1 GB and takes 3 hours. Unfortunately when I try this on my PC it installs half the download then drops it - I have tried 3 times and it drops it after an hour and a half each time. I am hoping therefore there might be some simple way of setting up ipad that does not involve 'Restore and Update'. Very frustrated. Please help. Stuck.

If you press the home button it should come up with some options. One of them will be start over. Those options will be in the different language but you can try each one and via process of elimination eventually will get back tot the default screen.

  • Easiest way to move games and apps from old ipad (cracked screen) to replacement ipad?

What is the easiest way to move games from old ipad (cracked screen) to new (replacement) ipad?

When you plug the new one into iTunes to set it up, you'll be asked if you want to set it up as a new iPad or restore from the backup of the old one. make that choice and you should be good to go. You'll need to input passwords and set the internet back up and such, but most of it will be there.

  • Replacement iPad won't start up

I got a replacement iPad (first one had cracked screen).  It started up just fine but I didn't get it set up right away and now it won't turn on.

Assuming that the battery isn't empty (and it can take up to 15 minutes of charging before it will respond), then have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • No sound while watching you tube videos on my ipad. This is my second replacement ipad with same problem.

no sound while watching you tube videos on my ipad. This is my second replacement ipad with same problem. No sounds coming out from the speakers, even after reset everything. Mute button is assigned for mute function instead of screen rotation lock.

    Hi herbie13!
It sounds like you will still want to link your iPad and computer, but you want to prevent the iPad from syncing information from your computer to your iPad. I have an article here for you that can help tell you how to set this up:
    iOS: Syncing with iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1386
You will want to follow the steps here to set up the iPad for syncing, but when it comes time to sync, you'll just want to make sure that the boxes for syncing the multitude of items that you can sync remain unchecked so that none of that information gets synced into the iPad.
Another note: your second Apple ID will not be able to access the apps, music, movies, tv shows, etc., that you have purchased under your primary Apple ID. Even though it seems that the secondary Apple ID still has access to those items, that is just because you are viewing your second Apple ID through the iTunes Store section on your computer and you have those items saved locally on your computer. You will need to repurchase and download all of the content that you wish to use again on your second Apple ID, if that is what you wish to solely use on this iPad.
Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

  • Can I connect to old Verizon account with replacement iPad?

I had to get my Verizon iPad 2 replaced at the Apple store.  Now I can't reconnect to my old data plan.  It asks for my information again but then complains because my email screws is already in use.  Any ideas?

I did have to go through Verizon to get this resolved.  What they really needed, though, was the phone number from my old iPad.  I guess every iPad has a phone number associated with it.  Unfortunately my old iPad was already gone but verizon finally thought to have me get the original box which I still had.  The box had a sticker on it with the information they needed.  So I'm all set.  The Moral of the story is to make sure to save your old information (phone number) when you get a replacement iPad (or iPhone I assume).

  • IPad mini replacing iPad 2

I used to have a iPad 2 which I got rid of a while back when it got broken.  This was a few months ago and at that time I had a MacBook Pro that I was using to sync that iPad.  I have since gotten rid of that computer and got another one, which I needed as I needed to be able to run Windows for everything that I have to run.  I have a new iPad mini that I just got a few days ago and I restored it when I first turned it on from the iPad 2's backup.  The problem that I am having now is when I go to connect the iPad to this computer, I get a message telling me that the iPad is synced with another iTunes library and if I continue with Sync, everything will be removed from the iPad.  I wasn't too worried about it as I figured I could just download the apps that I have again and set it up again the way I wanted it.  However, even after doing that, the iPad didn't remove anything, and there are files that are on the iPad that are not on my computer, but I cannot get them to sync over to the computer.  For instance all the apps are on the iPad and not on the list of apps that are on the computer.  When I go to do the update to the iPad, I get a message telling me there are things that haven't synced yet on the computer and I should sync them before doing the update.  How can I get this iPad to sync to my iTunes on this computer and get everything matched up the way that it is supposed to be so I won't get any more messages telling me that things need transferred to my library when I have just finished syncing and still get the message?

I believe that Apple will replace the device with the same model as the one that you want to replace if it comes under the out of warranty replacement policy. If you want a mini, that would be on your to purchase it.
My iPad is not eligible for warranty service. What are my service options?
Apple offers two service options for iPads that are not eligible for warranty service.
Battery Replacement ServiceIf your iPad requires service only because the battery's ability to hold an electrical charge has diminished, please refer to the Battery Replacement Service information.
Out-of-Warranty ServiceIf you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below.
    iPad model
    Out-of-Warranty Service Fee
    iPad mini
    $219
    iPad 3rd, 4th generation,
    iPad Air
    $299
    iPad 2, iPad
    $249
A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in US dollars and are subject to local tax.
Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPad that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service.Apple reserves the right to determine whether or not your iPad is eligible for Out-of-Warranty service. Replacement iPads have a 90-day limited hardware warranty or assume the remainder of your standard warranty or AppleCare service contract coverage, whichever is longer. Please see the AppleCare+ for iPad and Apple Repair Terms And Conditions for further details.

  • After syncing a replacement iPad for the first time, my apps have a "waiting " on the screen I can access them but not on opening screen

After syncing a replacement iPad for the first time, my apps now have a"waiting" message . I can still access from settings but not on the opening app page

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

I have an Ipad 2 and here is what I am trying to accomplish.  On my laptop I connect to a remote desktop connection to access a shared program we use for reporting.  How do I set up my Ipad to access this remote server?  Thanks for the help.

Close ... before going for a specific Cisco app ... lets find out some details:
    Host we need more details:
What is your server environment (Windows Server, or Mac OS X Server, or Linux)?
What security is implemented in your environment - as what is restricted (RDP for all or specifc credentials on all machines? Are you part of local admin group to the server you wish to connect)?
Does your environment Support CISCO IPSec connection? If so use Settings> VPN and IPSec tab to enter VPN details, if not then go with above suggestion. IF your restricted to RSA then either built in VPN settings or 3rd party app for RSA would suffice.
Finally, there are many RDP applications out there I use "Mocha RDP Light" (free minimal ads when launched not when connecting).

  • The voice that was on when I first set up my ipad came back on and now I have to double click to get into my apps and can't use my apps because her voice is always talking.  How do I make her voice go away and my IPAD work like it should.

The voice that was on when I first set up my ipad came back on and now I have to double click to get into my apps and can't use my apps because her voice is talking.  How do I make the voice stop and my IPAD work again.

If you've turned VoiceOver on then see if triple-clicking the home button turns it off, and then change what Settings > General > Accessibility > Triple-Click Home is set to.
Otherwise, via 'the touch to select double-tap to activate' process you need to go into Settings > General > Accessibility > VoiceOver and turn it off
The manual (http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipad) also says that you should be able to switch voice-over off by connecting to your computer's iTunes :
Turn VoiceOver on or off in iTunes: Select iPad in the iTunes sidebar. In the Options section of the Summary pane, click Configure Universal Access. Select VoiceOver, then click OK.
So select Configure Universal Access at the bottom of the Summary tab and set Seeing to Neither
