Lately, when I start up my Mac, iTunes and Mail open automatically.How do I stop them? - I want only my Desktop to open at start up.How do I set up my start up menue?

Does anyone know how to set the starting time for an audio book?

I am trying to restart a burn in iTunes that failed for an audiobook. I need to set the start time so it will not have to reburn the disks that were already completed. I cannot find out how to do that in version 11 if the book consists of more than one file. Anyone have an idea how to do this? Apple wants me to pay $20 for something that should be in the help menu.

I finally decided to turn this annoyance into an opportunity. After a lot of experimenting I found that my iPad was just fine under 7.1 if I simply restored it as new. I have a lot of time on my hands and I had 1424 apps on my iPad! This is why every attempt to restore took so long.
I decided to restore as new, spend a day restoring the apps I really used. Doing so gave me a quick iPad with only bout a quarter of the storage used.
Granted it was a pain in the arse, but I wrote it off as in the old days when you had to do this with windows 95 just to keep a stable system.
I DO have some data in a few files of the now unused backup but a quick google search finds a couple Mac programs out there that will allow you go extract audio recordings, app data files etc. from the backup. I'll do that someday if I even miss the files I've probably forgotten that are there.
Anyway, there was nothing wrong with my hardware. I think there were just some troublesome setup items that 7.1 didn't like. Once set up as new, the ipad was fine.

How do i delete the daemon on the start up menu

I just installed an Office 2011 update and now I cannot access any of the programs without deleting the daemon in the start up menu - anyone know what this means?

Daemons are often installed in one of these locations:
/Library folder:
LaunchAgents
LaunchDaemons
/Home/Library folder:
LaunchAgents
If not in one of those locations then you will need to hunt for it:
Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead. Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.

I live in Japan but my computer set up (Mac OSX 10.9.4) is English as a primary
language then Japanese secondary.
When I downloaded Dreamweaver 5, it was automatically downloaded
as a Japanese version.

If you want to change the dictionary in DW, go to Edit > Preferences (see screenshot).
This won't change your Japanese version of DW to English version. For that, you need to uninstall and re-install the English language version.

Then put a SIM in. You cannot activate an iPhone without a compatible Sim.

Informix: Error while trying to set up start or end key for index read

Hi all
Im moving an application from weblogic 6.1 to 8.1, we're using informix as our databasemanager and are using informix's XA driver. However im running into the following error:
SQL State: IX000, Exception: java.sql.SQLException: [Internal] Error while trying to set up start or end key for index read [fmstopset_release],
SQL ErrorCode: -9847, Error Message: [Internal] Error while trying to set up start or end key for index read [fmstopset_release], RSAM ErrorCode: -101
...while accessing a table.
The same code runs fine twice, but the third and following times it fails with the above error code. I've tried setting the various XA flags available in the weblogic console but with no success so far.
Anyone have any input to this problem? Ive not seen many postings about this error out in the cyberspace and the fews ive seen never gets any response...so i just have to hope anyone in here know anything about it.

In System Preferences, and CDs &DVDs, I've set the drop-down menu for audio CDs to open iTunes. can anyone tell me why it always reverts to Ignore?

Can anyone help me figure out why the setting in System Preferences and CDs & DVDs will always revert to Ignore when I set the drop-down menu to When you insert a music CD, to Open ITunes? I've tried iTunes Help and it told me exactly what I have been doing. I've even tried downloading iTunes again, to no avail. If anyone has had the same problem, please let me know. I would very much appreciate it.

In iTunes Preferences not system preferences under the General Tab there is a drop down in the lower part letting you specify what action to take when a CD is inserted

so that as the user opens the form control should be with the menu item and not with the First item of Data Block.

To my knowledge you cannot set input focus to a menu item.
Alternatively you could create a push button and put input focus there.

Yosemite - create space in start up menu

My computers knowledge is limited to say the least. I thought i up loaded Yosemite back in November to my Mac Book Pro, but i didn't. It states i do have enough space in my start up menu. When i go to systems preference, all thats there is a mackintosh HD. i click left i click right but there is no delete in the menu. how do i create space in my start up menu.

I wonder why SQL command SET ROLE starts a transaction?
Is it considered to be a DML command?
If yes, then why?
Check this simple PL/SQL example (where FND_ADMIN is any role granted to the user executing the code):

Hm... as documentation states, DBMS_SESSION.SET_ROLE is, quote, "... equivalent to the SET ROLE SQL statement", unquote.
However, seems that it's doing something more than just SET ROLE:
SQL> commit;
Commit complete.
SQL> select sid, taddr
2    from v$session
3   where sid = (select sid from v$mystat where rownum = 1);
       SID TADDR
        46
SQL> set role CTXAPP;
Role set.
SQL> select sid, taddr
2    from v$session
3   where sid = (select sid from v$mystat where rownum = 1);
       SID TADDR
        46TADDR is empty – we don't have transaction and there is no transaction state object for our session.
However:
SQL> exec dbms_session.set_role('CTXAPP')
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
SQL> select sid, taddr

3   where sid = (select sid from v$mystat where rownum = 1);
       SID TADDR
        46 5756BD74Why so? I don't know :) But obviously, DBMS_SESSION.SET_ROLE is not a precise equivalent to SET ROLE.

"HP" printer in start up menu

I recently bought a new computer (MacBookPro) and transferred all of the applications, etc. from my old computer to my new one. The problem with my old one was stemming from an HP Printer that wouldn't stop starting up in the start up menu. It isn't listed under the start up menu, but sometimes I still see it come up in the top left of my screen at start up. I am not having any of the problems I was having with the old computer, but I am concerned that I transferred the problem over to my new one. I also have the new operating system, which is what was recommended as a possible solution to my old computer's illness, so possibly the problem is NOT transferred and some part of the HP is still on my computer? Just wondering if this is something I should go into a genius with and have removed before it creates problems on the new one. Thanks so much for your time, Kiele

Users & Groups System Prefs.
Click on your Account.
Select Login Items tab.
Select the offending items and click the delete ( - ) button.
Note that deselecting the checkbox only hides the item on startup, not disable it.
