Setting up substitute for first time during unplanned absence

Hi, hope you can help.  I've looked through the FAQ / Wiki pages but without luck.
We've had a couple of scenarios lately where users (having never set a workflow substitute) have had unplanned absences, workflow (and notification tasks) are being sent to their workplace awaiting action ... which may not happen for some time.
I want to be able to go in to the user account and set up the substitute, is this possilble? (I am aware this could be a security function - but cannot find this either!)
Thanks

Hi,
Have you tried transaction RMPS_SET_SUBSTITUTE. I am not sure when it was introduced: it was not available in 470 system but exists in ECC6. I haven't used it in productive systems since we are just upgrading but it looks like it might do the trick for you if you are on ECC6.

Saku

  • HT1178 I'm setting up airport for first time. I'm getting error no DNS servers help

I'm setting up airport for first time. Getting error no DNS servers. What is DNS server and how do I fix this?

DNS server is that translation from a website address in words meaningful to us.. eg www.google.com to an actual number that computers can use. Without DNS the internet may work but you would have to know the ipv4 address of every site you want to visit.
Whenever you don't know the meaning of a term just type wiki plus the term in google search.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Name_System
We cannot really help fix the problem without knowing a good deal more info.
    So
What modem do you have.. make and model may be a help?
Who is your ISP.. may be helpful??
Is the modem also a router?
How is the TC connected to the modem?
How is the computer connected to the TC?
A primary example of where you get this problem is a pure cable modem.. ie has no router in it.
When you replace an existing computer or router that is plugged into it, with the TC, requires that you power cycle the modem. In some cases the off time is 5min.. for a lot of services, it needs to be off 20min.. and for some even longer.. maybe an hour or overnight.
But it is not worth getting into specifics without knowing the rest of the system.

  • Setting mailman up for first time, noob

My current web host offers mailman services but I'm about to leave this host so I wish to setup mailman on an extra mac here in the office to keep the list going.
I have installed OS X Server and I'm going through the Mail settings and I feel lost.
Are there tutorials for people to set up OS X Server's Mail service and set up a mailman Mailing List?
I have not yet changed my DNS records for the lists subdomain to point to this mac instead of my web host. I am hoping to get this system all set up for a smooth transition.

Okay, here's my theory on setting up a mail server.
I am assuming you have access for full DNS setup on your domain, you're running OS X Server 10.4, and you have access to configure port forwarding on your local network's gateway/router.
    I. Set up your domain:
    1. Create an subdomain for your mail server. Make it an A record pointing to your mail server's external IP.
    Eg. Host: mail.yourdomain.com IP: 111.222.333.444
    2. Make an MX record to handle the domain mail forwarding.
    Eg. Host: yourdomain.com Preference: 5 Data: mail.yourdomain.com
    II. Set up your gateway
    1. On your router or gateway, set it to forward port 25 to your mail server. This will handle mail delivery (server to server).
For mail collection (server to client), you need to decide if you're using POP3 or IMAP. You can set up both if you want to keep your choices open. Forward port 110 for POP3 and 143 for IMAP.
    III. Set up your server
From server admin, select your server and go to the Mail service. Click the settings button in the bottom right.
Switch on the check boxes mentioned below:
    General Tab:
    1. Enable POP/IMAP: Again, you can switch on both to keep your options open. You can choose which to use when you set up your e-mail client.
Use 0 on maximum connection to set an infinate number
    2. Enable SMTP, Allow incomming mail.
Domain name: This is yourdomain.com. This tells the mailserver who it is primarily handling e-mail for.
Host name: This is mail.yourdomain.com. This tells the server what it's internet hostname/address is.
    Rely Tab:
I leave all these disabled. You can use these settings to control who the server will accept mail from. Read up on them later if you want to set up advanced spam filtering and such, for now we'll just get your mail server running.
    Filters Tab:
Scan e-mails for junk mail: This is SpamAssasin. It's reasonably effective at marking spam for your client to pick up, I leave it switched on with the default settings.
Scan e-mail for viruses: Does what it says. I tell my server to delete virus e-mails on sight.
Update the junkmail and virus database: Filters are no good when they're out of date.
    Quotas Tab:
Refuse incomming messages bigger than: I set this to 5mb, though I frown on anyone sending an e-mail over 2mb... e-mail isn't really designed for carrying large amounts of data IMO...
    Mailing lists Tab:
Seperate feature. Read up on them if you want, they're not required for the mail server to work.
    Logging Tab:
Personal choice... I find the Server Admin logs don't tell you much useful information for small servers, so I leave the logging levels on medium levels. If you carry e-mail for many users however, these logs would help you track abusive users.
    Advanced Tab:
    Security Sub-Tab:
Authentication: This bit's important. I use SMTP Login, since it pretty much works with any client and does it's job. If you have lots of local users, you could use more advanced authentication methods listed. But you MUST have at least one of them, otherwise some spammer will mail-bomb you back to the stone age.
IMAP and POP authentication I leave on Clear, since users need to login to access their mail boxes anyway.
SSL: SSL's a pain for e-mail unless you have a genuinely signed certificate, which I don't. I don't send e-mails with uber sensetive infomation in, so it doesn't bother me. If you use SSL though, feel ffree to set it to use your certificate.
    Hosting Sub-Tab:
Local host aliases: This is a list of domains that the server will accept mail for. You MUST have yourdomain.com listed here, otherwise the server will refuse incomming e-mail for it's own users. If you have multiple domains, or you're hosting mail for other people's domains too, list them here so the server accepts e-mail for them. They will need to have their domain MX records set up too for this to work.
Virtual hosting: Another feature. Read up if you use it, I don't personally.
Database Sub-Tab: This is where mail pending delivery and/or collection is stored. Unless you store it on another server or somthing, which only a big mail server, or a back up mail server might need to do, there's no need to change this.
    III. Set up your users
    1. The server will use the server's local userbase. Add your users with workgroup manager, and be sure to enable their mail access when doing so. Feel free to ask if you need help with this bit.
    IV. Set up your client
    1. Add a new mail account with the settings for your server. The incoming and outgoing mail server will be mail.yourdomain.com.
You'll need to choose IMAP or POP at this point. If you're not sure which you want to use, do a google and it'll come up with some good comparisons.
EDIT: When setting up your outgoing server, Remember to switch on authentication and put in a username and password, since the server won't deliver mail from unknown users to prevent abuse.
See how you get on with that!

  • HT1178 Setting up TC for first time

I'm trying to set up a new Time Capsule and add it to my existing network. I don't want to use it as a base station, as I am happy with my existing wi-fi network, I just want to use it purely for Time Machine backups and to connect a printer via the USB.
When I am setting up, it is 'found' in Airport Utility but automatically defaults to creating a new network. I select 'add to an existing network' in 'other options' but it keeps defaulting back to creating a new network. Any help would be appreciated.
    Many thanks.
    Doug

The first statement of wireless setup as you like was with the TC in bridge mode.. plugged into the main router by ethernet and the wireless on the TC creating a wireless network.
This is the best way.. if you already have good wireless you can turn off the wireless in the TC.. and still access the TC over the network.. everything will work as fast as your existing wireless..
    Now take the other scenario..
Using the TC without wires.. using join to a wireless network which is not apple airport based.
The TC will become a dumb client in the network.. wireless speed will go to half of the existing speed.. as it always does due to double hop wireless.. the TC has no Wireless AP and no ethernet.. It will be located wherever you want and chug.. if you are happy with such a setup then that can be done.. expect the following.
    Extremely slow backups.
Fairly frequent corruption of the backup due to wireless errors.
Network going slow for long periods as now the bandwidth is totally used by local backups instead of internet.
With the other setup.. in bridge.. ethernet still works wireless still works.
The speed of wireless is as fast as the client can manage.. and you can keep it separate wireless name and so not affect internet traffic for other clients at all.
If you can get the client close enough 5ghz in the new AC version is very fast.. in wireless connection wireless will go at half the speed of the main wireless network.

  • Setting up wifi for first time

I'm sure this info is available somewhere but I don't know where.  I am wired to my router with an ethernet cable and just got a blu-ray player so I want to have wifi,  but I don't know how to make the change.  Where should I look?  Thanks for help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Look at the bottom of your router for a sticker. That sticker will contain your Network SSID as well as your WEP Key that the router is configured with out of the box. Use those two pieces of information to connect the Blu-Ray player. Wi-Fi is enabled by default on the Verizon routers, and your Wireless light on the front of the router should be lit up green to signify that.
If you are unable to connect the Blu-Ray Player, there is one thing that we suggest doing here, and that would be to change the Wireless security setting to a stronger, but more recent form of encryption. That would be called WPA2-PSK AES Encryption, and it works a lot better than WEP for securiing communication. If you need help with changing this, just let us know and we can do a step by step setup of that.

  • Setting up Gmail for first time?

    Hi there,
Im excitedly sorting out all my stuff ready to sync to the iPhone when I buy one tomorrow at the UK release.
I have a question regarding email setup.
I use IMAP Gmail and after watching the video on how to set this up on iPhone, it suggests you do not select the Gmail option when setting up a mail acount, rather you should set up a new IMAP account and enter Gmails settings.
Does this mean I should not sync my Gmail account when I first sync my new iPhone and set it up seperately, or will it automatically create an IMAP Gmail account on my iPhone if I just sync the account from Mail.app?
    Thanks

Creation...when you first sync your iPhone, if you have that account selected under the first tab...then it should install the account on your iPhone. Go ahead and try that first. If it does not work then just delete it from the iPhone and build it yourself using other in the mail settings. Do not use the Gmail pre-select for the IMAP build. I had to build mine as it did not work with the sync but it is suppose to.
    Hope this helps,
    Good Luck

  • Setting up Devicenet for first time.

I am new to both LabView and DeviceNet. I am trying to evaluate a simple network and determine if it will suit my needs. I have a DeviceNet PCMCIA card that was identified and installed on XP. The Hardware Configuration utility recognizes it, but not my DNET MFC (which is an MKS 1179A MFC.) I have tried resetting the system and refreshing, but to no luck. The MFC has MSD set to "0" and the LSD set to "1".

    Hi Darin,
With NI-DNET you can use the SimpleWho utility to detect any device connected to the network. The NI-DNET interface will query the device info of any attached device.
I'm not sure what you mean by the MFC. Is it a device?. Is it detected by simple Who?.

  • HT204380 help. tried for first time to use FaceTime with another iPhone user & it would not work. "FaceTime failed". we are both on wi-fi networks & iTunes accounts are set up correctly.

help. tried for first time to use FaceTime with another iPhone user & call refused to connect. Call would dial, allow us to accept call, then error message "FaceTime failed" would appear & call disconnect. we are both on wi-fi networks, both phones have updated software & both enabled FaceTime with iTunes logged in. don't know what else to do to get FaceTime to connect. Someone please help.

Thanks Helen for the response. At least you can get some of the contacts to work. Absolutely none of mine will. Feel like my phone is cheating me out something it should do. Think I'm going to just have to dump all the Apple products in general because this phone hasn't worked right since I got it.

  • Computer keeps Configuring and setting up for first time use

I have a toshiba A505-S6980 that has been working fine for a couple years.  Recently I had performance issues and suspected virus, spyware so I did a recovery with the original discs I made when I first got the computer.  Four of the six discs reloaded fine.  It did not ask for the last two discs "Environment 64 bit and Applications and Drives.  I also have a System Repair disc.  After loading the four recovery discs the computer now keeps recycling between preparing for first time use, configuring system, reboot and then back to preparing for first time use, etc.  I think I'm close to getting this, but need a last bit of help.
    Thanks

It's been a couple days since you posted this problem. Did you get anywhere, or are you still stuck in that loop? If it's still stuck, you may just want to perform the recovery again.

    Hi ...
If you have moved the Safari application from the Applications folder, move it back.
As far as the cache goes, there's a work around for that when you can't empty the Safari cache from the menu bar.
Go to    ~/Library/Caches/com.aple.Safari.Cache.db.  Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Try Safari.
Mac OS X (10.7.2)   <  from your profile
If that is corrrect, you need to update your system software. Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software
    Update ...
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.
For Lion v10.7x:  To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

My Wife got an iPhone at work. IT set it up the first time on another machine, they finally install iTunes on her machine but I don't know if she can sync without loosing Photos, SMS, and other things. She had six months of stuff on that phone?
The problem is she can't update to new software until she connect to iTunes, but she don't want to loose all that info.
    My question is:
If she register her apple ID on that new computer, and sync the phone, will she loose everything? or iTunes will back up first (because apple id match) and then sync.
Otherwise, how can I do it? The closest apple store is 3 hours away. thanks!

Before you connect to a new PC, make sure that autosync is disabled in Edit/Preferences/Devices, otherwise her phone will be wiped during the following sync.
If she has data on the phone she wants to save, back up manually:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to her new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing. Transfer the purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.
