Setting Up Tethered Bluetooth Cellular Connection?

Can anyone point me to a resource for setting up a tethered bluetooth net connection using my cell phone? I have a Sony W580i which has bluetooth, AT&T's data service, and a brand new MacBook Pro (15"). I have not been able to find anything conclusive about setting up a cellular connection. It doesn't seem like a very intuitive process. Is it even possible?
Thanks in advance,
Jim

It is possible, I tether my Blackberry 8800 to my MBP. I honestly can't remember how I did it though, for Tiger there was loads of info on the net, and you had to use a bluetooth script specifically for the phone. I think that changed with Leopard. here's what I have in my Bluetooth settings for the Blackberry: (case sensitive)
Telephone number: wap.cingular
Account name: [email protected]
Password: CINGULAR1
under advanced:
Modem tab:
Vendor: other
Model: Blackberry 8800
Again I think I may have installed a script, but I can't be sure. Try these settings and play around with it, be sure you have dialup networking enabled in the Bluetooth preferences for your phone.

  • Just received iPad2 and don't understand setting up WiFi and Cellular connections.  When I turn it on it shows some bars and AT

When I turn iPad2 on it shows some bars and AT&T in the top upper left corner of screen.  Does this mean I am connected to AT&T cellular service?  I have not signed up for AT&T service yet.  I have a Wifi connection at home and have been trying to connect to it, but I am not sure I have been successful since AT&T is howing in the left side of screen. If I ap Settings, Wi-FI the screen shows my home wifi connection with a check mark beside it.  Is Wi-Fi connected?  If not, how do I connect.  When I first tried, after tap on my home Wi-Fi identity I got another screen asking for details on the connection that I didn't have any idea of.  When I went to the game center I was asked for password for Wi-Fi which I entered, but Wi-Fi identity never showed up anywhere in the top of the screen.  So, I don't know what type of connection I have going and it appears that the AT&T connection is always on.   That'snot what I want.  I would mostly use Wi-Fi and only AT7T when away from home base.
Appreciate any help and sorry for such a basic question.  this is my first Apple device.

  • 9300i bluetooth laptop connection

    Hello,
I have been using my "older" Nokia phone with my laptop so that I've had my laptop as handsfree set.
With the older model I have used the option "Find bluetooth devices with sound" to connect the laptop and the phone.
From Windows Xp I've used the Bluetooth quick connections and headset.
In Nokia 9300 I can't find such "button" to find bluetooth devices with sound abilities. The phone and the laptop can find eachother and are a pair. But when I try to use the Windows Bluetooth headset I get error "No headset service found".
How can I make that connection with my 9300i?

You do not need tethering data to turn on Internet tethering you only need internet and when you do turn it in make sure you can see the CONNECT to BLUE TOOTH option and make sure that that option is on.
It would also help if you had BlackBerry Link

  • Setting up Tethering or Hotspot

I have an iPhone 3GS with 5.0 and a MacBook Pro with Lion. I want to set up tethering between the two so I can go on the internet with my 3G connection. I have tried to set up a bluetooth PAN with the phone, but it says "There was an error connecting to your device's network.  Make sure network access is enabled and available on your device" every time I try and do so. I have network settings turned on in the phone. The option for Personal Hotspot in the phone's network menu has a loading sign and is unclickable, even if left for several minutes. Am I missing something? I'd prefer to use USB to tether but I can't find this option either. Thank you for any help, and I apologize for my lack of technical knowledge.

I think the issue is that my phone will not let me enter the options menu for Personal Hotspot in the network settings menu. The button is there but instead of being a clickable section it has the rotating circle loading sign and will not change. I couldn't find anything related to this in the troubleshooting area, but that tutorial will help a lot once I get this figured out.

  • My cellular connection (swedish 3 operator) does not work after update to iOs 8.3

    Hello svenakealb,
It appears you are unable to connect with cellular networks using your iPad. The following article provides troubleshooting steps for this issue, which you may find helpful:
If you can't connect to a cellular network or cellular data - Apple Support
Get help with No Service or Searching, cellular network, and 4G LTE issues on your iPhone or iPad (cellular model).
If you see No Service or Searching
If you see No Service or Searching on your device, or can't connect to a cellular network or cellular data, follow these steps:
Check your coverage area to make sure you're in an area with cellular network coverage.
If you can't connect to a cellular network, make sure cellular data is on in Settings > Cellular.
If you're traveling internationally, make sure your device is set up for data roaming. Go to Settings > Cellular > Data Roaming.
    Restart your iPhone or iPad.
Check for a Carrier Settings Update.
Remove the SIM card then reinsert it. If the SIM card is damaged, worn, or bent, or doesn't fit in the SIM tray, contact your carrier.
Try another location. If possible, see if other devices are able to connect to your carrier's network in that location.
    Contact your carrier to:
Verify that your account is active and in good standing.
Make sure there are no outages in your area.
Check that your device is not blocked from receiving cellular services and set up with the right data plan.
Update your iPhone or iPad to the latest version of iOS.
If you can connect to 3G but not 4G LTE
If you can connect your iPhone or iPad to 3G but not 4G LTE, make sure your device is compatible with LTE. Go to Settings > Cellular > Enable LTE. Identify your iPhone and compare its model number with the list of supported LTE carriers for your country location. Or identify your iPad and compare its model number with the list of supported LTE carriers for your country location. LTE options might vary depending on your carrier's network.

  • How can I set up a bluetooth speaker with a mac mini?

    Hi
I'm using a late 2012 Mac Mini processor, OS X 10.9.4 -- can't find any info on how to set up wireless Bluetooth speaker.
    Would appreciate any help. Thanks

OK, thank you for that information. On your Mac, go to the Apple logo at the very top left. Then go to System Preferences. Then go to the Blue bluetooth logo to open bluetooth settings. In the window that opens, you'll see a + in the bottom left. Just before you click this, press the pair button on your speaker. The Mac will now search for the speaker, which is now discoverable. When you see the speaker, double click it in the list. Once you are connected, go back to system preferences, this time opening up the sound settings. In the list of speakers, select your Bluetooth one. it will now be highlighted and all audio will go through it. To go back to your regular speakers, either turn off the Bluetooth speaker, or go back to the sound settings and highlight 'build in speakers'. *****

  • Mac mini bluetooth audio connection stops when paused

    Hello!
I have a Mac mini late 2012, i5 Version, 2.5Ghz as my home Desktop. The OS is 10.9.5 Mavericks.
It's connected to a Logilink Bluetooth to 30 pin dock connector adapter, standing on an Apple Dock, connected to my Home Stereo. My Problem is, that everytime i pause the audio on my mini, the bluetooth connection just stops, and if i press play again, it plays through my internal speaker again.
I temporarily fixed this by playing a 10hour version of a song with 0 volume on itunes, but this shouldn't be a long-time solution.
I tried it with another bluetooth adapter, another dock, another home stereo. The issue probably is Mavericks, with it's awesome bluetooth settings, connect or don't connect.
Is there any program out there which sets the connection to permanent? Or is there an other solution?
Thank you very much in advance!
(Sorry for poor english. If you don't understand something, i could explain it in german!)

Ah, no joy, as suspected...I'm using Boot Camp version 4 and all i got was a flash drive full of boot camp version 3.1 - 3.3?  A few firmware upgrades that says it isn't compatible...
IS THERE ANYONE AT APPLE THAT CAN HELP!!!
Jesus! I bought this a week ago and I can't even get audio!  If this is the kind of service coming from Apple then I don't know...

  • Win8 - Bluetooth Audio Connection

    Hi everyone,
its day five with Win8 and the next Problem occurs.
In Win7 i installed Bluetooth and connected my Windowsphone7 without ANY Problems, using my X230 for making calls with the setting headset and speakerphone:
    Link to picture
Now in Windows8 the option headset and speakerphone does not appear ANY MORE.
THIS IS UNBELIEVABE. Is this a Problem of the Thinkpad's Bluetooth 4.0 Stack?
It may be a Problem of Win8 but I'm not sure.
Up to now, i can STREAM Audio from my Phone to the Computer (holy crap who needs this) but using it for calls... no way, because the phone wont be recognized as in Win7. So now bluetooth has become useless in my Thinkpad.
I really dont know if there will be any solution, but I'm posting for x230 Users to be careful when upgrading to Win8.
There will be much more problems you expect...
    best regards

When you say always, do you mean that it works sometimes?
I suggest that you make sure that you're using the latest firmware in both phone and Bluetooth device.
Or try to reinstall the firmware.

  • Photostream uploads photos automatically even on mobile cellular connection?

i have installed photostream on ipad 3 v 5.1.1  and windows 7.  ( Ignoring the problem that my ipad chooses to use up my mobile data card even when i am in the house with my broadband wifi connection ) I just took a picture with the ipad on cellular and it uploaded to my PC which is connected on wif taking a sizeable chunk of my data allowance.  According to all i read it should not do this. Is there a setting to stop it uploading photos when on a cellular connection?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Photostream won't use cellular data, there are no settings to turn it on or off, it is always off.

  • Decktop 6.2, HotSync not see Bluetooth as Connections option, Vista 64-bit

I got a new Dell Studio XPS with Vista Home Premium 64-bit and discovered that I could not perform a USB sync with my Treo 755p (Verizon). Since bluetooth sync was recommended, I purchased an IOGear Bluetooth 2.0 USB Micro Adapter (GBU421) and allowed Windows to discover the device. When prompted by Windows to insert the disk to install the driver, I went to the IOGear website and downloaded the most recent software (WIDCOMM bluetooth software version 5.5.0.4400 released 03/11/09 for Windows XP & Vista, 32 & 64-bit). Prior to installing this software, I had done a "clean" uninstall of all Palm files as directed in these forums and did a restart of the computer. I installed the bluetooth software & configured it to be "discoverable" and did another restart. Finally, I downloaded Palm Desktop 6.2, installed it and restarted the computer again. However, HotSync Manager does not see Bluetooth as one of the Connection options. My Treo 755p does "see" the computer when configuring bluetooth. Is there any hope that I may be able to sync this computer with my 755p or am I forced to look for a different smartphone? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

bonz1973: It worked! I am so relieved & happy after so many hours of frustration. I want to thank you so much for your reference to messages #353 & #354 on "Vista 64 Hotsync solution found!" I want to share some of my experience that may help someone else. My comments are in [ ] and take off of those from edwardek.
    1. Installed Palm v4.2 [I found that I did not need to do this]
    2. Installed Palm v6.2
    3. Installed Palm Outlook 2007 [ didn't do this part either since I use Outlook 2003]
    4. Installed Bluetooth apps
    5. Inserted the ... dongle in the USB port #6
[edwardek claims that he needed to use USB port #6 but my computer does not have a USB port #6. Instead it divides the many USB ports into Hubs. What' more important is that some software sets up the Bluetooth to transmit on a COM port. Mine was COM3. To see how your adapter software installed your Bluetooth devise, check the Device Manager in the Control Panel. It does list "Bluetooth Devices" where you can find the Device, right click, choose Properties, and see which USB port the Bluetooth adapter is in. However Device Manager also listed my Bluetooth under "Network adapters" and "Ports (COM & LPT)" which is important because I had to configure HotSync using Serical port COM3. I think it depends on the Bluetooth software you get.]
    6. In your PC tray (at the bottom of your PC display), Right Click Hotsync Manager and select "Settings" [Yes, you need to configure your computer's HotSync method.]
    7. Wait a long time (2 minutes) and the Hotsynch Manager window will be displayed. In that window click "Connection" and when the window opens click "USB" (a checkmark will then appear), then click COM (a checkmark will appear), under this you'll see a pick list drop-down menu showing all the ports. Select COM6.
[I didn't have to wait at all for HotSync to display. Yes, check both USB and Serial connections and at this point a dialog box showed the Serial connection was COM3, matching what was in Device Manager. I suspect that some software actually creates a Bluetooth option that shows up in the Connections list like the instructions from PALM specify. My software didn't set up the Bluetooth device is this way and so I was totally frustrated by not finding Bluetooth on the Connections list.]
    8. Next set up your Bluetooth application and make sure it is paired with your Treo (I'm assuming everyone knows how to do this but in essence you make sure the Bluetooth application sees your Treo (your name) and that your Treo sees your PC (the PC name). [Before this step you have to configure your Treo so Bluetooth is ON and VISIBLE and you can see your computer as a Device. I had a shortcut to my Bluetooth software in the PC Tray beside the HotSync icon. Once I had the Connections set for USB and Serial in step 7 and the Treo set up to be Visible, the computer saw my Treo using the name I had given the Treo.]
    9. From your Treo start the HotSynch, then on your Bluetooth application (Bluesoleil) right click on the Treo device and select connect. You should then see that the 2 devices are connected and the exchange begins. [Yes, start the HotSynch from your Treo.]
It worked for me and hope this helps you sync your Treo and your Vista 64-bit. Thanks for everyone's input and help.

  • Can I turn off my cellular connection completely but still use the gps?

On an old so, I forget which one, I used to be able to disable my cellular connection. I realise I can still do this with airplane mode but this stops the GPS working too. The main reason I want this as when I'm hiking I want to use my phone as a GPS device but without any signal my phones battery lasts about an hour. When I used to be able to disable it I could get a good 12+ hours of gps tracking.
    Thanks

It that case I'll test an workaround this weekend to see if I'm able to use it more than one day:
Disable Auto Screen Brightness and set Brightness to minimum
    Turn Off:
    Data Connection
    Wifi Connection
    Under Location Services, turn off
    Cell Network Search
    Traffic
Above just to be safe because GSM services will not be initiated
    Reboot phone
Not unlock the SIM card so the GSM services wil not start.
I'll let you know if there are some improvements and let's hope that Apple will allow us to turn off GSM services as well in the futures iOSes
    Regads,
