Setting up the airport extreme so i can get nat-2 for Ps3

what are the Settings i need to know to do this ? I have a dsl modem and my airport is set up to share a public IP address.

Anytime you change networking hardware it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of that hardware. Check out the following AirPort User Tip for details. Please post back your results.

Hi - you need Airport Utility version 5.6.1 for Windows 7 - go to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1547  to download it to your computer - the setup depends on what kind of modem you have and if you have another router connected - post back with this info to proceed - thanks

I have not done a factory reset, I was trying to find out if I had some setting configured wrong first.  I figured I'd just make things worse if went through a reset!

  • Setting up the AirPort Extreme on a Windows Vista (HP)...?

    Hello,
I have an HP Pavilion desktop (Windows Vista) computer and am [attempting] to use/connect the AirPort Extreme for WiFi. I can't find the original soft/firmware that came with the AirPort, is there any way I can download the software from the Apple site that will be compatible with my desktop? The Airport is connected to my internet connection (I have Cox Cable and use an internet modem: SB5100 SURFboard Cable Modem) and the amber light constantly flashes. Any help is deeply appreciated. Thank you.

  • Recently bought the airport extreme , was able to get my Mac book connected and working , I'm

Hi guys , I recently bought the airport extreme router I was able to get my mac working , but my I phone and a laptop doesn't wirelessly connect ..
I have sat for hours trying to figure it out no luck.
Can I get some assistance ? Very much apprecIated

I had a similar problem, wasted an evening on it. If your service is working on the big Mac, but not the laptop, then try this. Connect an Ethernet cable between the Airport and the laptop. On your laptop, open your Network Preferences. Ethernet should be hilited on the left. On the right be sure your network name is showing in that bar. Wait.
Open your browser and see if you can connect to an Internet site. If successful, then go back to your Network Preferences window. Click on Advanced. Then click on TCP/IP. Note the IP address and the Router address there. Now disconnect the ethernet cable from the laptop.
Now return to the first Network Preferences window and hilite Airport on the left. Then click on Advanced. Next click on TCP/IP. Then click on Configure IPv4: to say Using DHCP with manual address. Now you should be able to write that "noted" IP address in the space.  Click on DNS and add the "noted" router address in the column on the left by using the little + beneath the column. Be sure to click OK or Apply on the screens when you make changes. Now go back to your first Network Pref screen. Does the hilited Airport say it is connected? Try your browser, can you access the Internet? This is what worked for me.

  • Frustratingly setting up the Airport Extreme

O.K- i have comcast. and i had a linksys- but everything else i own is apple- so why not, right?
i plugged it and got going. i cannot get very far. it does not automatically find the DNS servers, no domain name or domain address.
    first page:
    country is u.s.
radio mode is n with b/g compatible
    next page:
going with no security (for now)
    next page:
dsl or cable modem with a static ip address dhcp
    next page:
    configure IPv4 (Using DHCP)
ip- (is what a webpage told me it was)
    subnet mask (was automatically set)
    router address (was automatically set)
DNS Servers (68.87.96.3 + 68.87.96.4) those were what i found to be comcast- should i only have one?
Domain name: (nothing- nor was it automatically found)
DHCP Client ID (nothing- nor was it automatically found)
the other pages are just password stuff- no big deal really.
but i cannot connect!! sure i can connect to the new wireless- but no internet!! i have tried going over these pages- and i have found nothing that helped. anyone know of something? is this router broken before i even get to use it? and i have powered down everything and restarted- that is not the issue.

I know you have already did a power recycle, but maybe you didn't allot enough time for the modem to "forget" the Linksys, and then, "recognize" the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn).
    Please try the following...
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
o Power-off the Cable modem, AEBSn, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the Cable modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the Cable modem, AEBSn, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the Cable modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
ip- (is what a webpage told me it was)
    subnet mask (was automatically set)
    router address (was automatically set)
DNS Servers (68.87.96.3 + 68.87.96.4) those were what i found to be comcast- should i only have one?
These should be roughly the same values your computer would get if you plugged it directly into the modem. Having both DNS servers listed shouldn't be a problem.

  • Set-up the Airport Extreme in a Windows only environment

    Hi all
Here's the deal. Being abroad for a couple of months, my employer has fixed me a free dial-up internet connection for my temporary home. At work (abroad, that is), I have a broadband connection, so the home dial-up connection is only for very sporadic use, as most of what I'm doing over the internet can be done during the working day, at broadband speed.
It would be neat though, to be able to connect wirelessly on my Dell WinXP laptop over this dial-up connection at home, the few times I'm going to use it. So I thought eBaying one of those nice "old" hockey puck Airport Extremes with built-in 56k modem.
From what I understood, the AE doesn't have a web-based configuration interface, like most broadband routers have, but one needs to configure it installing a software utility, right? Being in a Windows only environment, will I be able to configure my Airport Extreme-to-be using the Windows software on <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75422>? Does anyone of you have any experience with this? If so, could you reassure me that this is actually a feasible idea?
Does the AE dial-in automatically whenever you're generating traffic, by the way, or do you still have to establish the connection manually?
    Thanks for the replies

You can configure it that way, but it is easier to use Jon Sevy's Java utility.
Jon Sevy has a Java Utility for this purpose.

  • Can i use time machine with a hard drive connected to the airport extreme?

Just wondering if there is any news on this since the last post was in 2008.
The Apple website info regarding the Airport Extreme mentions attaching a hard drive to the Airport Extreme, but I can't see whether that could be used for a Mac using Time Machine.

You can attach a hard drive, but Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port at the AirPort Extreme are not supported by Apple, so it's not possible to say what your actual results might be.
If you decide to try this, it would be wise to have a secondary backup plan in place as well.

  • HT4259 How do I set up an Airport Extreme Base Station (v. 7.6.1) to allow wireless network extension?

I have an Airport Extreme Base station (purchased in 2009) and an Airport Express base station (purchased in 2011 - the model that plugs directly into the electrical outlet) (both version 7.6.1 according to the Airport Utility info).  I want to use the Airport Express to extend my wireless network.  Using Airport utility setup I have a software option on the Airport Express to set it up to extend the network but I do not have an option on the Airport Extreme wireless setup screen that I can check to allow my wireless network to be extended.
All of the documentation I can find on Apple Support states that I should have an option I can check to allow the wireless network to be extended while in the wireles setup section for the Airport Extreme in Airport Utility; but, that check option isn't there.  Is this a case of my Airport Extreme base station being too old to offer that option?  Incidentally, when I try to select the extend wireless network option on the Airport Express from the Airport Utility wireless setup menu I get an error message (no details - just an error message).  The same Airport Express sets up fine if I select join a network (not what I want to do).  Am I just dealing with outdated equipment or does anyone have a suggestion?  Thanks.

Close AirPort Utility if it is open.
Temporarily, move the Express to the same general area as your AirPort Extreme and power it up and wait a minute.
Hold in the reset button on the Express for 9-10 seconds and then release. Give the Express a full minute to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen and wait a few seconds for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear
Click on AirPort Express just below that and AirPort Utility will automatically open
Wait a minute while AirPort Utility analyzes the network and announces that the Express will be configured to "Extend" the AirPort Extreme network.
Enter a device name for the AirPort Express and click Next
Wait another minute to allow the configuration to occur.
When you see the Setup Complete message, click Done.
Now move the Express to a location that is approximately half the distance from the AirPort Extreme and the general area that needs more wireless coverage
Power up the Express and you are all set.  Trash those old instructions.

  • Problem setting up new airport extreme

I've just picked up an airport extreme to upgrade my home wifi network. Currently I'm using a buffalo 54g box that works fine. For some reason I can't seet to get the AP extreme to recognize the DSL signal. Here is what I've done so far.
I unplugged the DSL ethernet cable from the Buffalo and put it into the AP extreme and power it up. The light on airport is blinking amber. After running through the airport admin assistant and setting up the airport extreme (including the DSL connection information, etc) which the mac located without trouble, the AP extreme is rebooted but still just blinks amber. I plugged the ethernet cable directly into the mac and and access the internet without trouble. I plug it bak into the AP extreme and reboot it - still blinking amber. I rebooted the DSL modem - still blinking amber. The instructions recommend resetting the AP extreme so I reset it and then I ran through the set up again and still have the same problem.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Many thanks for your advice.

Per chance, did you allow adequate time for a complete power recycle when switching network devices?
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling
    - Power-off the DSL/Cable modem, Internet Router, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the DSL/Cable modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the Internet Router; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)

  • Please Help: I cannot get the Airport Extreme settings right with AT&T DSL

    AT&T Motorola 2210 DSL Modem.
I have tried both bridged on/off and different configurations on the Airport Extreme, but I cannot get online. I am out of ideas. I called AT&T tech support and because it's not one of their wireless routers, they wanted to charge me to troubleshoot, ridiculous.
    Please help

If you find that the Double NAT setting will not allow the PS3 to connect correctly, your only other option is to change the configuration of the modem to either +PPP on the computer+ or +Bridge Mode+ and then configure the PPPoe service on the AirPort Extreme.
I assume that you have already set the modem up using the default IP address of 192.1681.254 (I think this is it). You'll need to locate the page to change the settings and it will probably have a red warning sign on it. Either PPP on the computer or Bridge Mode will work. Update to save settings.
Then under the Internet icon in AirPort Utility:
    Connect Using = PPPoE
enter your user name (probably your email address with the service provider)
    enter your password
Leave the Service Name area completely blank
    Connection = Always On
    Disconnect if Idle = Never
    Update to save settings.
That will eliminate the Double NAT issue and the PS3 should get a clear indication. As I said, when you have the PPP connection on a device other than the modem, you may see an occasional drop and restart of your connection. That seems to be a fact of life with this type of setup.

  • HT2497 Is there some setting on the airport that stops me from file sharing over ethernet between my macs

    I have a Mac Mini from 2013 with OSX10.7.5 and a MBP from 2009 with OSX 10.6.8.
Both are connected with ethernet cables to the Airport extreme (2012) and both have silesharing enabled through afp.
The mac are not showing up on either one of the computers.
Is there some setting on the Airport extreme that dissallowed me from file sharing between computers?
Uptil one week ago I used to connect with wifi on my MBP and before this I was able to see the MBP in the finder under shared computers. The only difference is that I now connect with only ethernet cables.
    please help me. Thank you

The airport could not stop the connection..
In finder set it up manually.. so go.. connect to server.
And type in the address manually.
    AFP://Computername
This should then ask for password if required and allow you to see shares.

  • Installing the airport extreme/bluetooth card

Are there any instructions available for installing this card in my Quad?
    TIA,
    Jay

    Apple says
...or you can add wireless capability post purchase1 by having an Apple Authorized Service Provider or a retail Apple Store install the AirPort Extreme with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR card for you. The AirPort Extreme with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR card is not a DIY (do-it-yourself) part.
Therefore your best bet is to get it installed by an Apple Authorized Service Provider or a retail Apple Store.
I am unable to find any instructions to do it yourself.
