How do you set up the line spacing, ie: if I want to double or triple space a message instead of single space.

Word doc import/export and line spacing differences with Pages '09
When I save or open a Word .doc, the default line spacing differences messes up the document formatting, the document ends up being more pages in Pages than when I open in Word:Mac.
One work around I learned about on this forum is to set the line spacing to "exact" in Pages. This is okay, except many Word documents have subtle line spacing before or after paragraphs and/or different size fonts in the document that affects line spacing. Setting Pages line spacing to exact makes a mess of these documents.
Why can't Apple build a proper line spacing function into Pages so it is more compatible with Word? If they are touting compatibility, they need to make a disclaimer in their advertising as only simple documents seem to work without issues.
Is there a better work around available?

It seems that there is incompatibility in the before and after spacing (Ctrl + 0 in Word for Windows adds 12 points, if I remember correctly).
Since you mention a .doc file, it makes me think you have a Word 2003 or earlier format. I have a couple of suggestions:
1. If you have access to Word 2007 or Word 2008 for Mac, try saving in .docx. Basically, a .docx is compliant with Office Open XML, the ECMA standard that is the basis for the document formats in Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac.
[Note: The Office Open XML ECMA standard, or OOXML is a source of polemic since it was donated by Microsoft and competes with Open Document Format, or ODF. You can find more here:

and Microsoft has stated they'll support the newer standard and retrofit Office 2007. Let's hope they do the same for Office 2008 for Mac and that Apple picks up as well with an upgrade for Pages '09 or in Pages '10]
2. If the above does not work, I would suggest reporting this to Apple. This would indicate a compatibility problem in Office Open XML compliance, which should be independent of Word itself. A way to support this claim would be to test it in another word processor that adds space before and after a paragraph and that supports OOXML, which I think would be too much I would not bother reporting it for a Word 2003 format because it is proprietary.

We keep many logs in a simple list format. One of the columns requires a description using the "multiple lines of text" default column. Sometimes the person making the entry needs to complete about 20-30 lines of text. Users are requesting we reduce
the amount of space advanced between lines to save space and be more concise. Is there a way to reduce the line spacing for the column entries to single spacing without code?
Maree N PercivalWe determined that the site column settings were incorrect for allowing single spacing, we changed the site column setting from "Enhanced rich text (Rich text with pictures, tables, and hyperlinks)" to "Rich text (Bold, italics, text alignment, hyperlinks)"
and it is now keeping the text in single spaced lines.

How can I control the line spacing in TLF
Hello,
Is it possible to control the line spacing in TLF?
For example I might have text lines with font size of 12 (i.e. constant text height) but I would like to be able to change the space between the lines programatically.
Playing with the lineHeight property is not the best approach because in case there are images embedded in the text once lineHeight is set then the image is cut if it is higher than the line height. I really need to control the space between lines but not the lines' height.

My understanding how TLF handles this (please correct me if I am wrong) is that there is no gap between TextLines but one could achieve similar behavior by playing with lineHeigh. You could set it to a percentage and then this would introduce visual gap between text lines however in cases when a text line contains elements with different height (like the case with images or spans with different fontSize) then the gap will differ because it is calculated as a percentage of the overall fontSize. I don't want to have different gaps in these cases. I would like to have always (let's say) 10 pixels between each text line.
What I need is very similar to the "verticalGap" style available in the VBox container. I would like to specify the exact gap between each text line in exactly the same way.
Using "lineHeight" is not good because it depends on the height of the text/images and this leads to different gaps when I have mixture of elements with different heights. The way I set the gap should not be dependent on the height of the elements. -
Font setting for the line headings of a numbered list
I have been setting up Word files which are in outline form with A., 1., a., etc. as the numbering. In Word, the line heading (A., 1., etc.) take on the font and size that I use for the line text. In Pages, it seems to be stuck on a default size that is larger than I want (seems to be 10) and Times New Roman font, which I don't like. I can highlight the line text and change its size and font but the the heading remains the same. I can't find anything in Preferences about this. Is there a control somewhere?

1. Modify the styles in the Style Drawer in a file so they look like you want them to look.
2. Save the file as a template.
3. Use that template to create new files. -
Can you change the line spacing in the legend?
Is there a way to change the line spacing in the legend? I have a pie chart with text and I can't change the line spacing for its legend like you would in a regular text. Is there a way to change it?
For space between each line, use the leading value in the Character pallet. For space between paragraphs, use the Space Before or Space After values in the Paragraph pallet.

Varying the line count in every page
Hi All..
I want to vary the line count in a page in my report.
I have mentioned the line size n line count at the starting of the report, n it prints the same no of lines in every page but in the subsequent pages , I want to increase the line count .
How can I do that ?

well,the code u suggested does not work..NEW-PAGE is jus a standalone command with which the line count cannot be associated.
I actually have some header details that shud only appear on 1st page , n basing on the line count all works fine on 1st page ..but on the 2nd page the header details ned not appear , so only the itab details are getting printed , so the sy-tabix value remains the same but the line count is less than the 1st page leaving some space at the bottom of the page .
And in the subsequent pages the printing takes place but from the begining of the page n also leaving more space at the bottom of the page.
I want that equal no of lines get printed each page , also leaving equal no of lines at the bottom of each page.
Hope I'm sounding clear.

Press 'Ctrl + Enter' after the numbered item to insert blank space below it. If you press 'Enter', the next line will start with the next number. As long as you want to type lines without a numbering, press 'Ctrl + Enter' and type the line.

All of a sudden, in Safari, the top of the page is no longer white; instead it's a dark gray, and the bar where you type in a web address is a slightly lighter shade of gray. The rest of the page is in color like always. Also, the line that shows a page is loading is white against the gray background, isntead of the usual blue. Any thoughts?
Tap "Private" on Safari Screen to disable Private Browsing. When top of screen is white, Private Browsing is off.

How do you set the line spacing when using the Append Text Table to Report VI?
I have a table of numbers which I wish to print using the report generation VI's. Since each column has a different numerical format, I first convert the number for each cell to a string with the appropriate format and then build a string array to pass to the Append Text Table to Report VI. The table is printed with double line spacing. How do I reset this for single spacing?

The issue is not with the NI-Reports functionality, but the Array to Spreadsheet String funvtion in the for loop. Here is the context help for this function:
"Converts an array of any dimension to a table in string form, containing tabs separating column elements, a platform-dependent EOL character separating rows, and, for arrays of three or more dimensions, headers separating pages."
The thing to note here is that it says it adds an EOL (end of line) character at the end of every row. This is what is happening. Your first column of data has a \r\n in it and adds the second row to each data item. This in turn makes the rest of the columns have a larege blank space at the bottom so that all of the cell heights are equal. I w
ould re-write that little bit of code so that you just do one large string concatenation of number, spaces, number, spaces, number and this should solve your issue.

How do I correct the line spacing for last line of a paragraph?
I am using a paragraph style with a GREP setting all tect to a specific character style (Arial 9 pt with 12 pt leading.)
The last line had a larger spacing. Reading the forums I found that the end of paragraph character (EOP) had the wrong font size and checking it I found it was set to 12 pt with auto leading. Somehow in playing with the text I got the EOP to match the 9/11 setting, but still have the space.
So I closed the file and changed the default text to be arial 6 pt so that the paragraph character would no longer dictate the line space. This has no affect.
I reset the paragraph as basic paragraph and it sets it to a font Minion Pro @12 pt. I though t I had changed the default, but nothing changed????.
I am also a bit confused as to why changing a paragraph style does not change the EOP as well. Is there a setting to make it behave the same?

Is this a problem with the GREP statement? It currently uses the period character to select everything.Have you tried simply placing your cursor in the problematic paragraph and click on "clear overrides"? If it works for one paragraph, select them all and do that.
However, what is the underlying paragraph style? Have you tried changing the leading in the paragraph style definition.
It sounds a little like what's happening is that your grep style is applying a charater style to all character but not the EOP marker, which is taking it's leading from the underlying paragraph style.
Also, why are you using a GREP stye to apply a character style to everything in the paragraph. It would make more sense to define those attributes withing the paragraph style itself.

BDC for FF67 not displaying the line itmes of second page

How do I change the line spacing in DW CS5?
My problem seemed so simple to start with. All I want to do is create a single line space in DW. When I press "Enter" at the end of a sentence I want DW to go the the next line and not start a new paragraph. I just want one line space not a double paragraph space. Is there any way to change this default spacing? I have searched all over DW Help and the forums but can't find an answer anywhere.
