Setting Up Two Gmail Accounts in Mail...

I'm setting up two gmail accounts in my Mail on my Mac Book Pro. One account connects fine, but the other does not. Preferences and settings appear to be the same...
Can anyone suggest how I could fix this?

Did you enabled IMAP and POP access from Gmail's settings? Open gmail.com and go to settings / forwarding and POP IMAP and make sure everything is ok.
Let me know, bye

Just set up my new ipad Air and cannot set up my gmail account into mail ?

    EASY SIMPLE FIX....
    The problem is Google.
I had the same problem, couldn't install Gmail on my ipad or iphone and kept saying wrong / incorrect password, error messages. Worked for hours and hours on this.
It is Google's (optional) 2-step verification system that is to blame.
Google won't tell you this, and instead, they have come up with work arounds, and even telling people to install the Gmail iPhone/ipad app, which then limites the iphone/pad functionality when not using iphone's native mail.
    FIX:
    Logon to Google...
Go into your Google account preferenes
DELETE your cell number used for 2-step verification...... leave it blank
(it is optional, Google does not require you use 2-step verification)
    Thats it. Your'e done.
Now set up your Gmail (now called Google) as usual on your Apple device.
You don't need 2-step (optional) verification.
There are other secure ways to do this. It is an option, but Google goes out of it's way not to tell you this.
(and a great way for Google to gleen your personal information, in the name of security)
    Hope this helps someone.

yes. delete that account and recreate it as an imap account (gmail allows both). when creating the account using the account wizard uncheck the box to set it up automatically. This checkbox creates a POP account and you want imap.

Gmail provides application specific passwords for these circumstances but those aren't working for me with Mail:

Based on a review on online forums it seems many are having this problem.  I urge Apple to figure out a solution and I hope someone in this community has figured out a workaround.  If you have please share!
Also if you're having the same issue please share that too.

  • HT5361 How do I set up multiple gmail accounts in Mail without them sending from the wrong gmail address?

I have Mail set up with three gmail-based email accounts. I have chronically had an issue with sending email from one address and having responses to that original email come in to the other gmail addresses. When I try to select which server to send from, all three gmail servers are never online or available at the same time - it's always just one.
How do I get around this? My gmail-based accounts are for three distinct audiences, so I need them to function properly. I would rather be able to do this in Mail than by switching to internet-based email or using Outlook for Mac. At this point, I have had to stop using Mail and am just doing it through the internet. I have deleted all of my email accounts out of Mail, so nothing is currently set up in the application. Do I need to do anything to Mail to really wipe it clean before I start creating my accounts again?
Thanks in advance for your input!

After removing the account and reinstalling it. currently both send and receive are showing on my Mac Pro..  My MacBookPro s another issue ... even when I send email in that account from the MBP it "flashess" in the sent mail and then dissappears.  I modified my "smart folder" and included "sent mail" and that was of no use either.  When I first reloaded that account on the MBP this morning both sent and inbox mail showed ... but now nothing in the "sent" folder even though it is still showing on the MP and in the OWA account.
Since the mail is clearly in the OWA account I assume this is an Apple mail issue and not a GoDaddy (server) issue ..

  • Setting up a gmail account in Mail.. varied results..

I've got an intel imac which i've had for several years and I've got my gmail setup using POP and it looks like this..
I've recently purchased a macbook air and attempted to do the same thing but I can't get it to display in the same way and it seems to insist on being IMAP not POP.. anyway it looks like this...
How can I get it so they both display like the top one??
    Thanks!

    Matt,
I've got one more, then I'll throw in the towel. This one is a little trickier but I feel confident it'll work, otherwise I'm at a loss. Especially because I've tried on three different machines here at my office and cannot for the life of me reproduce your issue.
If we were to copy all of Mail's support files from one computer to the other then we'd replicate your environment on the iMac. It does involve moving some plist and application support files around so if you'd rather hold off (for fear of data loss/corruption) then I totally understand. Otherwise here is my proposed steps:
    Close/Quit Mail
On the iMac, go into your home folder and then your library folder. Copy the entire /Mail folder to your desktop.
Next, we're going to into the preferences folder and copy the com.apple.mail.plist to your desktop.
    ~/Library/Mail (folder and all contents)
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Now on the MacBook Air, we're going to copy those same two items to your desktop. Again, make sure Mail isn't running. This is where it gets tricky and if you want to bail out and get a second opinion, then I completely understand.
We're going to take the Mail folder and the mail .plist (from the iMac) and replace what's currently on the MacBook Air. Then we're going to restart the machine and fire up mail. Now, I tested this on two of my machines here and it worked fine but from my time working for Apple and supporting users I learned: "Never mess with the mail.plist and a POP account. EVER."
But that doesn't mean, it won't work.

  • I just set up my gmail account on mail and it downloaded all 10,000 of my emails.

This took up 4GB and I got the 128GB SSD, so I don't want these old emails wasting space. I want to delete them from my computer but want to keep them on my gmail server. Will just deleting them in mail do this? If not, what do I do?

So then I want POP. I want to clear out my hard drive of all these unneccesary emails and only keep the last few months or so.
Ensure that you uncheck the option to "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message"

  • Using two gmail accounts in Mac Mail client, smtp server issue

I've set up two gmail accounts (one personal, one from my job) in Mac Mail. The personal account is set up via POP, the job account is IMAP. I receive mail into each account with no problem. However Mac Mail won't allow me to set up two separate smtp.gmail.com servers (one for each account). If I edit my SMTP server list and try to change either account individually, it changes BOTH accounts. So I can receive with no problem, but can only send mail from both accounts from ONE account (which ever one I've programed). Is there a way to set up two SMTP severs through gmail (one for each account)?

I have two separate ones set for password authentication to two different accounts.
In your smtp server list, how many are listed? If only one, click the add button and set it up for the other account.

  • Two gmail accounts don't work in Mail??

Hi. I have two gmail accounts for Mail 4. When I compose a new message, I have the option of which account I want to send it from and from which server, again, both gmail servers, smtp.gmail.com, but named differently. However, it seems I can only use one server for both accounts but that means the message will always be sent from that address which is linked to that named outgoing server! So if I send a message using my uni email address but the personal outgoing server, it'll say from my personal address! One is personal and the other is for uni. What do I have to do so that I can use both gmail servers? Thanks in advance people!

Add the SMTP a second time, but but with another name and now Authenticate it with the second address. It is the SMTP that changes the From to be the address which was used to Authenticate it.

  • Unable to create new email from Gmail account in Mail

I just installed gmail to retrieve messages within Mail: I can receive gmail messages and reply to gmail from Mail. However, I cannot create and send a new message in Mail using my gmail account; when I do I get the following error message:
    Enter Password for Account
    smtp.gmail.com:xxxx[account name]
The SMTP server "smtp.gmail.com" rejected the password for user "xxx[account name]"
Please re-enter your password, or cancel.
No matter how many times I add it correctly and click OK, the same message returns.

Google provides instructions for setting up a Gmail
    account in Mail here:
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13
    275
Make sure you’ve set up the account as described
    there.
That is what I used to set up my gmail account in Apples Mail App before your post. Those instructions say that when you click on the Advanced Tab that the port will switch to 995 - which it did for me. I do have a minor problem though. Is there any way to prevent emails sent from Mail via gmail from showing up in gmails web page? I don't really like web mail whatsoever!

  • Can i set up two emails accounts on the mail function tab and switch between them

I would like to be able to set up two email accounts on the mail tab on the Iphone 5 and switch between them, is this possible?

Yes it is possible to set up multiple accounts but you cannot switch between them in the mail app.  What you can do in settings/mail etc is have one set as active an dthe other as inactive and you can change that from time to time if you want

Now I can't send a photo because i get an error message saying the user name and password do not match.
How do i save a new gmail user name and password??

    iPhoto Menu ->
    Preferences ->
    Accounts ->
Delete and recreate your email settings.
Alternatively, use Apple's Mail for the job. It has Templates too - and more of them.

    Hi,
Since the issue is on Outlook through Google Apps Sync, I don't have the environment to test it for you, the support that I can provide is limited.
Anyway, I still want to know, what did you refer to by "dashboard"? Do you mean the Navigation Pane on the left side?

  • Can't set up a Gmail account in Apple Mail

I've tried many times to set up a Gmail account on my iMac in Mail. No problems in setting up the same account on the Mail client on my iPhone and iPad, but each attempt on my iMac gets me this message: "There was a problem setting up the Mail account. Mail couldn't discover the account settings for the Mail server "myaccount.com".
    Any ideas?

have you tried putting in the settings manually ?
