Setting up Vienna Ensemble as a multi in LP9

I've read about this subject both in the VE manual and in a few threads on the VSL forum, and I have some questions. I was able to open VE as a multi and assign each instrument to its own aux channel in the mixer, but I've had some trouble figuring out how to get MIDI into each instrument appropriately. How is this generally done? After messing around for a while, I figured out something that seems to work, but I'm not sure if this is the best setup. Here's what I did:
I set up a software instrument track with VE (multi) and created two instruments in it--piccolo and flute. I assigned the piccolo to outs 1-2, so that playing my keyboard with the VE instrument track selected plays the piccolo sounds. I assigned the flute to outs 3-4 and created an instrument object on a new environment layer, cabled to the VE instrument and sending on channel 2 (the flute track was assigned channel 2 by default when added to VE). As I said, this works, but I'm wondering if there's a better/easier way before I create a whole orchestral template this way. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or, if anyone wouldn't mind sending me a template they've created that I can study, that would be great. Sorry if this is very basic info, but I have very little experience with multis.
One quick semi-related question: sometimes when I add an aux channel (using the + on the instrument track in the mixer) it appears directly next to the instrument itself, other times it appears next to Logic's main outs. Any ideas on why this happens? I'd much prefer the auxes to always appear next to their instrument.

Hi....I think you are experiencing what I did, which is....the reason it SEEMS to show up over by the master is that Logic's Mixer view has changed. Look up at the top when this happens and I'll bet you your view has changed from "Arrange" (showing only arrange objects) to "ALL." This is yet another Logic bug....whenever you use multiple auxes this starts happening....

Built-in Logic instrument plugins are NOT available outside Logic. VEP can only use 3rd party Audio Unit (& VST?) instrument plugins.

I'm about to assume that I've made a mistake, but I don't like assuming ...maybe someone can help me figure this out.

I just completed the download of Vienna Ensemble Pro 5 w/ a 9Gb Demo Library
The stand-alone app, and probable the VST, won't find / load / activate any of the samples that came with software purchase.
I can load Kontakt 5 in this app, load a single instrument and hear playback (via MIDI controller) when I try.
The problem I am having with the VE Pro 5 Included Library instruments is that I can not locate, so I can not load any, thru the interface.
I download the samples and they uncompressed into multiple ".dat" files. (?)
That is where I am afraid to assume ...I'm just learning about using these (awesome) Vienna Apps, but I've yet to see a
instruments library load as a Dat file.
Could they be in the wrong folder?
Should I uncompress it some other way?
It there ONE BUTTON I should have hit, to fix all of this?
I have ".gig", ".wav", ".au" and ".nki" files, is the ".dat" file something new (to me) that I need to learn about?
I love Vienna everything, but I am clueless (new guy) and would definitely appreciate any help you can offer!
All I'd like to do, is hear a few sounds triggered by my MIDI Contrlr. But I suck at figuring stuff these days

Finally actually figured it out. It was all there somewhere but for anyone else who might want the details here they are:
1) Start Vienna Ensemble Pro 5 SERVER
2) Start Logic X
3) Create a software instrument
4) Choose “AU Instruments – VSL – Vienna Ensemble Pro - Stereo”
5) Press “Connect”
6) Choose the “Available Instance” and press “Connect” (This step is necessary to connect Logic with VEP5)
7) On an audio track insert an “Audio FX” and choose “Audio Units – VSL – Vienna Ensemble Pro Audio Input – Mono (or Mono-Stereo)
8) Press “Assign” choose the “Connected Server Intervace” and again press “Assign”
9) Be sure that the “Audio Input” on this screen is set to “In 1/In 2” or whatever the corresponding output in Logic is set to
10) Press “Raise”
11) Press the “Microphone” icon to insert an audio input
12) Go to that input and set the “Input” to “IN 1 / IN 2” or the proper input that corresponds to Logic
13) On the same channel strip go up to “EFFECTS” and press the “+” button to add the effect you want

Vienna Ensemble Pro and Kontakt?

Has anyone had success routing multiple instances of Kontakt from a single instance of VEPro, back into Logic X with their own Aux channels? I have no issues with EastWest Play, but Kontakt is a mystery. Any advice appreciated!
PS- I have tried the "environment" routing technique decribed in the VEPro manual, it still doesn't work properly...perhaps because it was
from Logic 9.

i need to do one transaction and i am setting autocommit(false) and
once i am don ewith my 2 inserts i am settins it to true.
i have like 20 thousand rows and when it is working fine for some inserts but after that it is throwing

Hi .. When we bought our iPad my hubby set up in his name / iTunes / iCloud. I now have iPhone ( he does not) and the two do not sync !! I would wipe him from the iPad but we have purchased all the apps etc in his iTunes account and not mine. Is there a way that my iPhone could sync with the iPad .. The iPad, like the iPod Touch and the iPhone was really designed to be a single user device. It was originally designed to be used in conjunction with ones personal iTunes library and one library only. Now it has gone PC free, but it still works the same way that it did at the inception, meaning it is still best suited as a single user device.
If you sign in and out of different Apple ID's on the iPad and you download past purchases with another ID, you will lock yourself out of the other ID for 90 days becuse you have associated the device with another Apple ID. You can read more about that here.

You can have multiple iCloud accounts (up to 3 I think) on the device, but to me that serves no real purpose if you can't associate the device with multiple ID's without worry of being locked out of your own ID.

Web Form Validation Message Language Setting at Runtime when work in multi lingual environment

Business Catalyst use the default culture language to display web form validation message.
When we are in multi lingual environment and not using subdoamin to handle multilingual sites, we found that the validation message did appear in the default culture setting. To make this work, we need to add the below script in our template.

After user 1 submits the page, it might not even be committed, so there is no way to have the pending data from user1 seen by user2.
However, we do have a new feature in ADF 11g TP4 that I plan to blog more about called Auto-Refresh view objects. This feature allows a view object instance in a shared application module to refresh its data when it receives the Oracle 11g database change notification that a row that would affect the results of the query has been changed.
The minimum requirements in 11g TP4 to experiment with this feature which I just tested are the following:
1. Must use Database 11g
2. Database must have its COMPATIBLE parameter set to '11.0.0.0.0' at least
3. Set the "AutoRefresh" property of the VO to true (on the Tuning panel)
4. Add an instance of that VO to an application module (e.g. LOVModule)
5. Configure that LOVModule as an application-level shared AM in the project properties
6. Define an LOV based on a view accessor that references the shared AM's VO instance
7. DBA must have performed a 'GRANT CHANGE NOTIFICATION TO YOURUSER'
8. Build an ADF Form for the VO that defined the LOV above and run the web page
9. In SQLPlus, go modify a row of the table on which the shared AM VO is based and commit
When the Database delivers the change notification, the shared AM VO instance will requery itself.
However that notification does not arrive all the way out to the web page, so you won't see the change until the next time you repaint the list.
Perhaps there is some way to take it even farther with the active data feature PaKo mentions, but I'm not familiar enough with that myself to say whether it would work for you hear.

Setting Default Audio Channels on a multi-channel interface

Does anyone know how to set the default output channels for QT to anything other than the first 2 channels on a multi-channel interface (in my case a MOTU 828mkII)? I use the digital outputs on my interface, and this works fine wih every other app apart from QT (I select the motu in Audiomidi Setup, and then use the device driver to set the appropriate default output channels). I can do it in QT on a movie by movie basis using the Movie Properties pane, but this is irritating, and I want to set digital outputs as the default so QT sound files in a browser play back through the correct channels of the interface.

The mic is mono. It only records on one channel. Rather than double the sound you can center it. Edit into the timeline only the track of audio with the mic. Select the audio in the timeline and press Control-period to center pan the sound.

Using Vienna Ensemble with Logic 8 - Question

Greetings,
I have the Vienna special edition and have set up and instance of the VE. What I'd like to do is have a VE configured that can remain open and access it from whatever logic project I'm working on. In this way I could move from one cue to another loading the samples.
I don't seem to have it set up correctly. Whenever I close one project the VE closes with it.
Is anyone using the VE as I describe and if so would you be kind enough to help this dunderhead.

For me working with the VI is a mess really. The behaviour of the GUI is terrible it always slips behind the Arrange screen when you edit inside Logic and you have to go searching for your VI behind the Arrange to edit it. With several VIs it's even worse as they will clutter the whole screen. Also they don't don't open like normal Plugs but they have a sort of Pre-Plug In window which you have to open first to access the VI. But try it out for yourself, concerning RAM it's the same as the VE, working with a standalone gives you another 2,7 Gigs of accessable physical RAM though.
That's why I use VE 3 as an Instrument container that works great and is by far the best solution.

The question is, how do I define/attach the "Select" field (single-valued radio) to each of the displayed record in my multi-record Report or Form ??

Is there a way to set the visible property of an item to false in a given row, but not for all instances of the item (based on another column in the row)?
Yes, I know set_item_property does not work. I've tried set_item_instance_property to no avail, and have read that it does not support the "visible" attribute.

Your findings are correct. You cannot set the visible property for one instance of an item. However, you can set the visual attribute. If you create a visual attribute with the same background and foreground, it will "hide" the data in the item instance.

Setting Speakers(Logitech Z5500-Digital) To Multi-Channel 5.1 OpticalOut

Hello i Have an MBP and im using the optical out to connect my speakers(logitech Z5500-digital).
But when I open the Audio/MIDI Configuratio utility and try to configure my speakers, i can only set it to Stereo(default) and the Multichannel-> Stereo(from dropdown menu)
Can anyone tell me why i cant set it to the 5.1 option? My speakers support 5.1!

first- i have the same speakers-
you do not have to mess with the MIDI-
also- what are you listening to? itunes is not 5.1- you must have a 5.1 dvd playing in your DVD app- and then in the preferences in DVD player you can set your setting to get 5.1- hope this helps

Multi-Dimensional Sets in a hierarchy

I'm trying to create a set hierarchy which contains multi-dimensional sets. When adding the multi-dimensional set as a sub-ordinate in the hierarchy I receive the error <Set Name> invalid characteristic for Input Field HKONT.
The requirement is that on a report in BI we need to limit rows on a report to specific GL accounts and then specific transaction types (BEWAR) within those GL accounts. We have around 20 reports that have the same format but the GL accounts and Transaction Types on each row are different - hence we wanted to use sets to maintain the GL accounts and transaction types for each row.
So I've created several sets which are single sets and it all works fine. But when I create a multidimensional set (with Account and Transaction Type) it works fine. But when I attempt to add that as a subordinate set (ie to create the row in the report hierarchy) I get this message.
The Set that contains the rows can't be a multidimensional set as I can't add multi-dimensional sets to multi-dimensional sets.
Anyone come across this or know of a way around it ? or perhaps a different approach.

I guess the problem is because, in a multi dimensional set, you have more than one char i.e. HKONT and BEWAR... In your report row, have you included both of these chars or just one?
Try to include both the chars and then use a multi dimensional set in the row...
The idea of multi dimensional set is that no char in it should repeat... When you are adding this multi set to a BASIC SET or SINGLE SET, you are bound to get this error in GS01

Hi Samir,
in essence, an account/BP that is set up as multicurrency (MC) is local currency (LC) in disguise. All transactions are held in the application in LC, the display is merely informational according to the exchange rate defined for the posting date. The reconciliation currency is LC.
A foreign currency (FC) account/BP will only accept transactions in this FC. The LC equivalent is automatically calculated, but the reconciliation currency is FC. Exchange rate differences are used to adjust LC according to the rate at the execution date.
If you use a particular bank account for trading with a particular foreign country, the account currency & the BP currency should be set to a single FC. If a particular bank account is used to deal with various BPs using various currencies, that account should be set up as MC, yet we would recommend you set the BP as single FC.
