Setting Up Vista Login

Hi. I know that I can get Vista to login to OS X server. For the OS X clients I have, their home directories sync to the network, since they are setup as Mobile Accounts. Can I make the Vista home directory sync with the server just like OS X? I basically want PHDs for the Vista clients. Thanks!

If all you want is command-line access (no GUI), or command-line access plus X clients (xterm, etc.), then you need to enable Remote Login in System Preferences > Sharing > Services, and you need to know the IP-address of your machine. If you have a router at home, then you need to set up port forwarding on the router.
Once you've set these up, then you should be able to use an SSH client (ssh on OS X, UNIX, and Linux, PuTTY on Windows) to connect to an OS X command line shell on your home machine; and you can use sftp (from an OS X, UNIX, or Linux machine) to transfer files to and from your home machine.
There's no telnet server on OS X by default, and you probably don't really want one -- it's not a very secure protocol. ssh is much better.

Here's one more reason why this error occurs in Toad. It is when you have more than one Oracle Client installed on your machine. Even when you select the correct Oracle Home in "Connect Using" field of Toad, you still get this error "Can't initialize OCI. Error -1". So, to solve that you need to go to the installation folder of that Oracle Home (e.g. C:\Oracle\ora92\), then go to the BIN folder. Open Oracle.Key in Notepad and confirm that it is showing Registry entry/path to the correct Oracle Home (e.g. HOME0 or HOME1 or whatever).
    I hope this helps.

  • Tried to set up Vista via Bootcamp.....

Tried to set up Vista via Bootcamp, Macbook Pro (06) now only boots in Vista (option on boot doesn't help) which will not connect to internet. Now, I just want my Mac back. There's a reason I no longer own a PC. Should have never looked back!
Please help me just get rid of this mess and get back on OS X.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, I just got the computer and haven’t done anything with it, so I guess I didn’t see any reason to do any backup. I have the Mac OS X install discs, a Lion disc, and of course this silly Vista disc.
When I got the computer, it was up and running, but I don’t even know if it had the Lion installed or not (may have still been whatever it had before...Leopard???).
I found some directions on the web to guide me through setting up Vista via bootcamp. I followed those as well as I could, although there were small differences. However, it was generally right...got Vista installed, anyway.
The first thing I noticed was Vista wouldn’t take me to the web. Then I started wondering how to get back to the Mac side. Read that if I hold the Option key while booting, I’d have the option to open on either side. That trick doesn’t work for me. When I do that, all I get is a little picture of a padlock with a space underneath to type in a password (I assume). I don’t know what to put there, since I’ve not set up any password on the computer...maybe it’s for something else???
I’ve tried the C at start up, D at startup, and now Command-R, they all seem to get me the same thing- Windows boot manager. It says to choose an operating system to start...but then only has Microsoft Windows Vista as an option.
Uhhh, is there anyway to just wipe this thing out or something, so I can start over. I don’t have anything I need to worry about losing...I don’t guess. Only had the computer a day or so. Or is there something else I should be worrying about.
By the way, thanks for the response.

  • T400 vista login screen too dark

On my t400 with Vista Business the login screen is so dark that it is hard to see anything. It can be made brighter by using the brightness control keys, but this is a nuisance if you have to do this first before you can logon. Is there any way to set this logon screen to a higher default brightness??

    It's a power saving feature.
Check the Power Manager options under the Globat Settings tab and uncheck the option to dim the screen during startup/log-in.

  • Vista login

    Greetings,
Does anyone else have a problem with Vista users having to authenticate every time they login to UCM. When we originally set up all my clients were using XP. They were able to login without having to authenticate as we are using active directory. I have recently had two users switch from XP to Vista and now they are required to authenticate every time they attempt access UCM.
I have added the site to 'trusted sites' and 'intranet sites' in their IE security settings and still no luck.
I know this isn't alot to go on but any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Malky,
I did try everything you suggested with the users computer and still nothing worked. Funny thing is that the users computer can access my virtual UCM instance but not the production instance. All IIS and folder permissions are identical between the two. Also...I have XP users who have no issue at all.
I've even had the supreme overlords of tech support at our organization take a look at it and they are shaking their heads.
I'm getting ready to dive into ASP.NET to see if I can find a solution there.

  • ACD 23" - No Image Until Vista Login Screen

System: Windows Vista 32-bit Business Edition
    Processor: 3.06 Ghz P4
    Video Card: Raedon 9800 XT
Hopefully someone can give me some clarification on this. But when I boot up my PC none of my boot up screens are visable on my 23" ACD. I cannot view the prompts to access my bios or anything until my PC loads Windows Vista up to the Login Screen. Everything is fine after that. Is this because my BIOS runs at a non-supported resolution? Is there anyway to get this to work? Currently I have to hook up another monitor if I need to make any BIOS changes and its really annoying. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

When I was searching I didn't realize it was only looking at the last 90 days. Sorry for the post.

  • Vista login does not fade in, often black artifacts or half screen black

I've installed a legitimate copy of Windows Vista Business 32 bit on my new Macbook Pro 2.53 Ghz Late 2008 twice now, as well as installing all the bootcamp 2.1 drivers and getting to the latest windows update -
This still happens - the windows login screen (after the vista circular logo appears with the noise) is supposed to fade in as I've seen it do on my friends' identical macbook pro (but he installed vista 64 bit), but it never fades in for me - it either flashes black and then appears or sometimes the black will appear jagged and cover up half my screen for a second.
Does anyone else have this issue, and if so, know if it's a software/driver issue or a hardware issue? I want to get a new macbook pro if my graphics card or memory is messed up -
I'm not using fusion or parallels, just bootcamp.
    Thanks,

Huh, it helped to restart the computer. :-) And I thought that Apple never needed to be restarted. :-)

  • Setting up a Login Page

Can any one please help me with two frustrating issues:
    1) Is there a way to set up a secure login page within the actual website? I don't want to secure the entire site, just some pages within it. I've looked through all the help pages and I can find no reference or instruction anywhere?
    2) Is it possible to set page "hot spots" to act as internal page links?

1.) Create a new site with one page and password-protect the site (page) hyperlinked from main site.
2.) What is your definition of "hot spots"... Do you mean a hyperlinked shape with 0% opacity placed on page?

  • No headphones setting in Vista!

    What can I do!
When I select 2 speakers in sound settings, all my games reset to 2 speaker mode on every startup.
Older games like Counter-Strike .6 that don't let you set it manually also output in 2 speaker mode. Which results in noises focused left and right very unnaturally.
Needless to say how do I use headphones properly in Vista..

I'm missing the headphones setting too. Using the front speakers setup instead of headphones placement resulted in terrible aural image. There is a headphones setting in Creatives Console but it'sis not enough. Windows fooled about 2.0 setup and thus it is using wrong software matrixing in games and multimedia players.
Not to mention i'm waiting for OpenAL be fixed for nowadays common Vista X64 + 8GB RAM
Still no OpenAL, no headphones setting, no AC3 decoder, nothing! Moreover it do not support 96khz rates in stereo as the specifications said. Just an usual $10 plain stereo card instead of Elite Pro, my worst buy ever.

  • How can I set up SSL login authentication on one domain for multiple domains

Our site currently runs in 22 countries with 22 different
    country domains:
    www.mysite.com
    www.mysite.co.uk
    www.mysite.fr
    etc
We want to use SSL on our login pages but realise that the
cost of certification for every domain is expensive. One solution
would be to channel all login activity to a single domain, eg:
www.mysite.com/login.cfm?site=fr which would then redirect to
www.mysite.fr – this is how Google do it
But, currently we are using encrypted cookies for login
authentication so we would have the problem of having to transfer
the cookie info across domains securely. Is there any way of going
    about this?
Any other suggestions would be great, too. We do plan to move
to session management for logins but this is a longer term project
so we are hoping to sort out the SSL prior to that.

Can you not pass the values you need as URL parameters?
Encrypt them befor you send them and then decrypt them on the new
domain. Then add them to whatever place you need (cookie, session,
    etc.)?

  • Set password when login as oracle from db server / as sysdba

    10.2.0.3.0
Hi, we have a linux db server and oracle user (group dba and oinstall) can login / as sysdba without giving any passwords.
i have created orapwd file and changed REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE=exclusive in init.ora file but still, if someone is in the dba group he can connect without providing a password.
Can you please tell me how can i succeed for all OS users to be asked for password even if they belong to dba group?
    thank you

The behavior you describe is normal and experted. By default members of the Oracle Home directory structure owner group can log on as sysdba and can avoid the need to use a valid password since sysdba users actually log in as user sys.
If you do not want to allow this then you should have installed Oracle with a group other than DBA such as oinstall and then not assigned any OS users to this group.
