Setting up webmail account
I just got my new iPad, and I'm trying to set up a webmail account in the Mail app. I have the same account on my iPhone and my home Mac, and copied the settings verbatim into the iPad settings. The mail account receives e-mails, but sending seems to be an issue. I keep getting a message that the server rejected the outgoing address typed in. I sent test e-mails from my iPhone without incident, so I'm not sure what I could do differently. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Am I missing a step?If your email account offers a webmail access, I suggest checking the webmail - log in to your account using the webmail access, and I predict you will see all those "unread" emails there and can dispose of them from there.
This happens because the iPhone that went bad, when reading those emails, did not remove them from your email provider's servier. -
I have a webmail account. It used to appear in my mail as its own separate mail box location (like 'on my mac' or 'icloud')
I had a whole set of folders set up for my emails in relation to that account.
I had trouble with that account last week and had to 'reload' the account and now all the folders have disappeard.
I am sure I have done something wrong in re-loading the mail account but I don't know how to fix it - can anyone help please?

SharonDoes this provider have IMAP servers, Access? Or just POP? Is your Mac mail set up for POP or IMAP access?
If POP then it will only have certain folders, Inbox (incoming mail) Sent (or Sent Items, Sent Mail) (For Mail you have sent from your Mac) and maybe a trash folder for that account ( I don't use Mac mail as maybe you can tell from my first reply I don't care for that program). With POP access the mail program just goes out to the Mail server and downloads new emails., It does not upload the sent items to the server or sync with any other folders that may be seen when logging into the Web mail from a web browser.
The only way to have the same mail folders in Mac Mail on your Mac as what you see from the Web Login, using a Web Browser, is to set it up as a IMAP account. then the mail program on your Mac will sync with all the folders.

I just got a new BB Curve 8900 for work but I have not been able to set up my e-mail accounts to receive e-mails on my device. I live in Spain and the provider is Vodafone España SA but at work we use fasthosts webmail server for e-mails.
Can anybody provide osme hel in how to set up the account?

If it's a BIS then make sure that your mail server supports POP3 or IMAP protocol. Also you need to make sure that you've subscribed for BlackBerry data plan from your carrier.
Now go to setup -> Email Settings -> If you're first time user then create the credential and follow the on screen steps to configure your device.

Setting up an account for Windows Live Mail, Calendar and Contacts

Very recently my university mail changed from the regular webmail to Windows Live.
The question is :
How do I set up an account for emails, calendars and contacts in my mail.app?
Also do I have to use entourage for this purpose or will the mail app be able to figure it all?
ThanksYou will need your email server addresses for the incoming and outgoing mail servers, your email username and password, and whether you need to use login security, POP or IMAP or Exchange account type, and any relevant port numbers. Then for Mail it's simply creating a new mail account and providing the above information where requested or needed. For assistance with the use of Mail select Mail Help from Mail's Help menu and search for relevant keywords. Same with iCal. In iCal Preferences click on the Accounts icon to configure an Exchange account.
My guess is that if you ask at computer services at your university they can provide the web page at which you will find configuration instructions for using different email clients.
I am not at all familiar with Windows Live but it appears that it may be a browser based information system meaning you may not be able to access it from Mail or iCal. Again discuss this with the IT people at your university. -

You actually now have the option to set up Hotmail as an Exchange account (a HUGE plus). Here are directions:
Microsoft recently announced that it it now allowing users to connect their iPhones, iPads and iPod touches to its free webmail service – Windows Live Hotmail – via Exchange ActiveSync. Before, the only option for Hotmail users wanting to access their email on the go was to set up their accounts via POP3 or login via a web browser. Because the POP3 protocol does not reflect changes to email statuses (whether read, deleted, etc) with the server version, so your emails end up out of sync. Exchange ActiveSync, on the other hand, reflects your changes across all devices. Plus, it means all your new Hotmail messages can be pushed directly to your iPhone or iPad.
Even better, setting it up on your iPhone or iPad is relatively simple (and thankfully, the same process on either device):
Open Settings and select ‘Mail, Contacts, Calendars’.
Select ‘Add account’, and choose ‘Microsoft Exchange’.
For ‘Email’, enter your Hotmail email address ([email protected], for example).
Leave the ‘Domain’ field blank, but enter your Username (probably [email protected]) and Password (hopefully not yourname1234).
Give the account a description (this will appear in the Email app to identify the account). Select Next.
After that has verified, a new field – ‘Server’ – will appear. Enter m.hotmail.com in this field. Select Next again.
Choose which services you want to sync (Mail, Contacts and Calendars), and you’re done.
You can also set up how many days worth of mail you want to sync across and which folders should push emails to you.
To set up whether you want your email pushed to your phone (it’s an all-or-none decision if you have multiple Push-enabled accounts), go back to ‘Mail, Contacts, Calendars’, and select ‘Fetch New Data’. Here you can toggle Push on/off or choose to fetch data every 15 minutes, 30 minutes, hourly or manually (the latter will go easiest on your battery). -

I want to know if I can create an account on my iphone? Can this be done?

I have just transferred broadband ISP from BT to Utility Warehouse. After getting round the BT blocks, all seemed OK. I always use Firefox as a browser and have had bookmarks set up for my webmail accounts (various). All of those accounts can be accessed via Firefox except AOL which can only be accessed via Internet Explorer. I get on the initial AOL connection but cannot get to the Email sign in page.
I have tried to connect by various means but without success via Firefox. I have no desire to have to use IE and that is inconvenient anyway.
Suggestions ??Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.

i accidently set up one account for icloud and one for itunes; suggestions on how to correct this and use just one account for both.... thanks
If you want to change your iCloud ID to another existing ID you'll have to delete the account, create a new account with the other ID, and migrate your data to the new account. To do this, first go to Settings>iCloud on your phone and turn all data you are syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off. When prompted choose to keep the data on your iPhone. (If you are syncing iWork documents with iCloud, also open your iWork apps and turn off iCloud syncing and choose to keep the documents on your phone.) After everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. Next, set up a new iCloud account using your other ID, then turn syncing for your data (contacts, etc.) back to On. When prompted, choose Merge. This will upload the data to your new account.
This will not move your photo stream, however. If you have photos in photo stream that aren't in your camera roll and that you haven't backed up anywhere else you will need to save these before deleting the account. To do this, open your photo stream album on your iPhone in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos to select them, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll. You can then delete the iCloud account and your photos will stay in your camera roll. -

Good question, but I'm 99.9% certain the answer is "no". Here are some considerations:
Think of the heritage of iOS. It really started with iPhones and maybe iPods. These devices cost a whole lot less than a Mac. They are generally not thought of as shared (with exceptions, of course, as is true for you).
Think of the backup process. i-devices typically sync with one iTunes on one computer. How would an i-device with multiple users enstantiate this?
Anyway, all this is to say I'm convinced you cannot do what you're inquiring about. -
I just set up an account at the I tunes store including authorization to charge my pay pal abount. I have also received e-mail confirmation that the account is set up, but every time I try to make a purchase I get a message that says apple ID has not yet been used with the I Tunes Store and it takes me back through the process of authorizing my paypay account. Help!
Once you purchase or download an app it will always be associated with the Apple ID used to download it. When that app requires and update you must use the Apple ID and password used to download it in the first place. The only way around this is to delete the apps the require the old Apple ID and download or purchase them again with the new Apple ID.

How to set up user account and share folders
We are a family of four sharing our first iMac. I would like to set up one account for my wife and I and one account for my kids on which I plan to enable Parental Controls.
I have struggled with setting up my kids user account. After setting up a Standard account for the kids - I noticed none of our music or files were visible in the kids accounts. I spent 20 min on the phone with Apple and the tech was clueless. He had me copying my music folder all over the computer until I had about 6 copies of the same folder. I did figure out how to move the music library to SHARED folder and redirect iTunes source folder to the same shared folder.
My problem now - when I copy my documents to the SHARED folder my kids can see the files and open them, but they can not save them. How do I give the kids account read write privileges?

Here's how to set it up by using ACLs:
1. Create a new folder in /Users/Shared. Call it "Sharefolder".
2. Log in to an Admin account, open Terminal and paste in all of this at the same time:
chmod -R +a "everyone allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,\
addsubdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directoryinherit" \
/Users/Shared/Sharefolder
That will automatically make everything copied or created to the sharefolder writable by all users. Note: After setting this up, if you have existing files that you want to move to the sharefolder, hold down the option key when dragging them in. That will make new copies of them in the sharefolder. Dragging existing files in (i.e. simply moving them there) won't cause the ACL to inherit properly and they won't be writable by all users. Files that are copied or +newly created+ in the sharefolder shouldn't have this problem.
Make sure you keep good backups. One user accidentally deleting a shared file will affect everybody else who uses it. -
