Setting video resolution on Apple TV 2

Hi,
The latest update finally adds an option to switch the resolution between 720p 50 Hz and 720p 60 Hz. Since I'm in PAL land most of my own content is 50Hz whereas the app store is 60 Hz. My tv deafults to 720p 50 Hz and when I try to change to 760p 60Hz I get an error message saying that the resolution is not supported. My popcorn hour displays 720p 60 hz without a glitch and 720p 60 hz is listed in the manual as a supported resolution. Anyone experiencing the same issue? Is this a viable excuse to upgrade to a new tv set?
My tv is a Toshiba Z3030 LCD.

@pejback
On my ATV2 that not works, i use the Movie "The Art of Flight" from the Apple Sore, The Movie is located the on my iMac, iPad and iPhone. When i set to 720p60 the stuttering is a little lover. The Problem i has other Movie that has 720p25 and i must always change the Resolution instead of tthe Movie i use, this is very User unfriendly. I buy the same Movie as a Bluray, the Resolution is 1920x1080p23.97. When i start play this Movie the BD Player sends the new resolution to the TV and the TV display it for a short moment. Why Apple can not implement Frame Rate Synchronisation between Move and the TV.

  • Setting video resolution

    Hi everybody.
I have an ipod touch 4th generation, 64 GB
I wanna know if it's possible to set video resolution of camera. If so, how I can do. If not, what's the default resolution?
    Thank you in advance
    Have a nice day

You can't change the video resolution.  The resolution is 720P

  • How to set screen resolution on Apple TV Gen2

This is my first bad out of the box experience with an Apple product. I got my brand new Apple TV Gen 2 and hooked it up to our Sony Receiver/TV.
Plugged everything in. Turned it on and I got the screen but am not able to change resolution. With the current resolution I can not see all the menus and the display does not fit on the 40" display.
    Tried unplugging.
    Tried doing a reset.
Tried holding the Menu & Down arrow
Tried looking through the menus, such as Settings, Video & Audio but can't find anything on setting screen resolution
Tried searching this forum for instructions for changing resolution
Much appreciation in advance for any tips or magic tricks on setting screen resolution.

i also have this problem. i had a long discussion with apple support and the result was that apple tv 2 is not build for connecting it to a receiver but only to a up-to-date flat TV. i don´t know how i managed it to use the 720p resolution but as i had it i set the auto power to off and let it switched on all the time.
after the update to 4.2.1 it had no chance to get it to 720p. it is locked to 1024x768 which is not the resolution i want to watch HD movies.
but my setup is not a normal one. i have a onkyo AV receiver which is sending the HDMI signal over a HDMI splitter to an LCD screen and a HD beamer. the LCD screen is an old one which has no HDMI input, i use a HDMI to analog-component converter for this. the HDMI output of the onkyo is connected to a wireless HDMI system from marmitek.
so its not so the ideal setting for apple tv. i hope that everything works fine if i have a new flat TV with a normal HDMI input.

  • Apple TV 2 does not switch automatically the video resolution (60 HZ / 50 HZ)

My apple TV streams the content from a Mac Mini. In my iTunes library are mixed content from the iTunes store. Some are 24 fps with 60 Hz and some are 25 fps with 50 HZ. All was bought on iTunes. The video resolution is set on my Apple TV to AUTO. This mens for me that my Apple TV will change the resolution by itself depending on the movie.
And this is the problem. The Apple TV does not change the resolution. It is only on 60 Hz. A lot of people has the same problem. My iPad wokrs fine and displays all movies correct.

Thank you for the eplanation. What might cause that activity as the TV was off and no other HDMI was on? Only WiFi was available but nothing connecting to the apple TV.... I tried to "wake it up" with iTunes on my macbook - and it works (I was not aware of). But it could not be iTunes and it was not really "used". So it might be iPhone or iPod waking it without we want it to.
I'll check all items potentially connecting to it. Txs!

  • QT video resolution issues from Apple podcast server

My video is low res. 7.6.6 on OSX 10.5.8 has disabled the media settings. I have tried to change the settings for "instant on" but it keeps defaulting to the on position in the medium range. I tried to re-install 7.6.4 but while the player shows that it has been properly installed when i go to the QT pro registration it is still showing that it is 7.6.6. QUESTION How do I re-configure QT pro for my firefox browser so that I get the proper resolution (I don't want to upgrade to the newest OS yet.

"Instant On" setting is for "streaming" media:

It has nothing to do with the video resolution.

  • How do i set hd video resolution?

I am confused... what is this talk of HD video recording on my 4th generation iPod Touch, when the resulting videos are 568x320? I cannot find a place to set the resolution.
    What am I missing?

Well, that was helpful. There were a whole bunch of resolutions in there, and ironically, UHD30 was at the top of the list (like it was Preferred or something).
I changed the res and the mouse movement immediately became smoother. However, after about 9s, the screen went dark for about 2s, therm came back. I'm going to have to see how stable this turns out to be. But it looks really good right now.
I may grab the EDID, parse it, and but some insights about it here. I did searches for UHD and 3840, but did not find anything useful. And there should be

  • Lower the video resolution on iphone 5 for Apple TV?

Can you lower the video resolution on iPhone 5 so that it will play on Apple TV. Now it takes forever for a short video to buffer. I know I can convert it to a lower resolution myself - once the video is complete - but many videos, such as kids' birthday parties are fine at lower resolution, and I'd love to be able to show them immediately on TV.

Which kind of iOS you have
if iOS 7.1 then it's software issue and many users complaining from its battery life
I hope apple fix this issue in the next update
for now you can disable any settings that running and you aren't using it (apps/games, wifi, bluetooth...etc)
    only keep what you need.

  • Cannot  set display resolution after upgrading to Mavericks

I have early Mac Mini  connected to KVM stitch.  Over the weekend I upgraded to Mavericks and it "dowgraded" display resolution from 1920x1200 to 1600x1200 and everythign looks streached.  1920x1200  no longer shows on the list in display properties (1920x1440 shows but it does not look good on my screen). I googled Option key trick and hitting "Scaled" while hold Option key does show some additional resolutions, but not the one I used to have.
Connecting Mac directly to the monitor allowed me to set proper resolution and after removing monitor and pluging mac back into KVM things "held" untill Mac goes to sleep or until reboots.
I am aware that my KVM switch does not communicate EDID but things did work just fine before upgrade to Mavericks.

    Hello curtdav,
It sounds like you are getting a graphical anomoly when unplugging an external monitor. I recommend these troubleshooting steps from the article named:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Can't set monitor resolution to 1900x1200

I have an HG281D monitor (hanns-g) with native resolution 1900x1200. Mac OS won't let me set the resolution higher than 1900x1080. How can I fix this? The display is clearly stretched vertically in its current configuration.

Note that Mac Pro ≠ MacBook Pro. This the MacBook Pro forum. The Mac Pro is a desktop machine. The MacBook Pro is a notebook computer, and you certainly can't have two NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 video cards installed in a MacBook Pro.

BTW I tried using doferent setings in compressor from CBR and VBR I even pushed up the setings to 8 or 9 BR and still no luck !
does anyone have any idea ?
    Thanks in advence ...

Let's focus attention on just the Sony. (What model and what resolution are you shooting?)
    For now, I'll assume you're shooting 1080i.
Take a representaive clip  into a new sequence. Add a title.
In your sequence, make sure field dominance is set to Upper.
Set render settings to Pro Res 422.
After rendering, export QT self contained.
Import into Compressor (I'm now referring to v3.5).
Select the 90 minute Best quality DVD preset.
Open frame controls and turn on (click the gear icon). Set Resize filter to Best.
Submit burn and check quality on TV.
    Good luck.

I changed to an unsupported (by my monitor) video resolution and now I can't see the screen. How do I change it back?

I believe if you reset PRAM, it will revert to a default setting. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1242 & http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US

  • Poor video resolution??

I've got a mac mini with iSight that works beautifully with my sister and her iMac. I bought a new iSight for my father-in-law and am setting it up for him. However, the video resolution that he receives, and sends out, is extremely poor. Lots of pixelating going on, even on apple's test servers. I just tried with my sister, with the same results. The video I see is zoomed in, and poor. This is on a 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4 with Mac OS X 10.3.9. I did a speed test with 384 kbps down, and 118 up for results. Bandwith limit is none, and I set the quicktime system preferences setting too. Any ideas on setttings to change? What am I missing?
    Thanks,
    Tracy
    iSight - iChat 2.1 (v153)   Mac OS X (10.3.8)

    Hi tagalloway,
OK this is iChat 2 we are talking about (According to your Specs)
This means that iChat will take about 80% of the Bandwidth it can find.
Now the incoming pic is based on the download speed but does have a relation to your Upload speed -it tries to balance the two - in this case that is 118kbps (80% of that is close to the 100kbps practical minimum).
    I would try several things.
    Increase the lighting.
Point the camera at something else and see if it refocuses.
Put you hand right up to the camera then pull it back to the distance you face is away from it and see if that does the same.
Make sure no other app is running such as Mail or Web browsing.

  • Apple DVI to Video Adapter vs Apple PAL DVI to Video Adapter

I've just bought my mum a Mac mini (for Christmas) and although it will almost certainly be mostly used with a VGA monitor she has it would be interesting to see what the picture would be like on her fairly new (CRT) television. (If it's good enough she might prefer it plugged in there - especially since I've also got her a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard - plus wireless networking for accessing the Internet et cetera.) The Apple Store (UK) shows two "suitable" connectors...
    a) Apple DVI to Video Adapter
    b) Apple PAL DVI to Video Adapter
My local Apple Store (Meadowhall / Sheffield) only has the former and someone I spoke to there yesterday reckoned that it does exactly the same as the latter. I found that hard to believe so called the online Apple Store - yet they couldn't tell me the difference either. So, perhaps someone out there in the Big Wide (European PAL System User) World can help me. If so then perhaps you could also tell me what the quality of the picture is like - though I appreciate that such would be dependant on the television itself.
Incidentally, my girlfriend has a current range iBook and I bought her the corresponding lead for that a while back - the image quality on my (admittedly aging) television not only being rather poor but also only in black and white regardless as to which of the two connections we used. (Her digital still camera plugs into the Composite Video port on the television and a colour picture appears.) The problem sounds like NTSC is being output (the television's not able to handle that) but given that she's got a "British" iBook I suspect the problem is with the television itself. I've actually yet to try that with my mum's television but I will soon - so, perhaps, proving if it's my antique display that's at fault. The VGA output on the iBook is, by the way, fine.
Mac mini Mac OS X (10.4.3)
Mac mini Mac OS X (10.4.3)
Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I'm fairly sure you will need the PAL adapter if you are feeding a PAL television set. VGA is VGA, regardless of country of origin (so to speak), but composite video is specific to the TV system in use!
The other reply, about the setting the iBook for PAL output, sounds sensible if the IBook produces composite video directly.

  • How do I set document resolution

I'm trying to create a pages document that can be exported as a pdf, then converted to an ebook for uploading to an iPad. I've set the document size to 5"x7.5" (2x3 ratio) but can't find a method to set the document resoluton to 120 dpi. When I create the files and convert them (regardless of which PDF quality I use), the pdf file is fine and displays properly, but the conversion splits each page of the pdf file into four separate pages. I'm guessing that's due to the difference in the resolution between 300 dpi and 120. Any ideas?

    > I'm trying to create a pages document that can be exported as a pdf, then converted to an ebook for uploading to an iPad.
There are several formats for e-paper and e-book interchange, and the several formats are in two main document models. One set of formats follows from ISO 8879 Standard Generalized Markup Language and the other set of formats follows from ISO-IEC 10180 Standard Page Description Language. For instance, the e-Pub and HTML formats follow from ISO 8879 and the PostScript and PDF formats from ISO-IEC 10180.
    > I've set the document size to 5"x7.5" (2x3 ratio) but can't find a method to set the document resoluton to 120 dpi.
In the PS and PDF family of formats, document co-ordinate space has no resolution (: it is resolution indepedent). Objects in the co-ordinate space can either be resolution-independent (: scalable shapes that only get a resolution when they are rasterised to a specific device, for instance, TrueType typography, Type 1 typography, lines, and boxes), or resolution-dependent, for instance, photography.
For resolution-dependent objects, applications support two workflows. Some applications such as Apple Pages work on the assumption that you set the resolution in the software you use for exposure correction, other applications such as Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress work on the assumption that you can do this later when the publication is processed. However, since you can't upsample from a lower to a higher resolution successfully in QuarkXPress or InDesign, it makes no difference if you don't save the resolution you need from the source application software.
So, begin by selecting the photographs you want, correct the exposures, and save the exposures with the ICC profile for the colour correction space into a named folder at the resolution you want. Then place them in whatever application you want, and save into PDF.
    > but the conversion splits each page of the pdf file into four separate pages. I'm guessing that's due to the difference in the resolution between 300 dpi and 120. Any ideas?
Since the document co-ordinate space in PostScript version twenty-something in the original Apple LaserWriter of January 1985 is always resolution-independent, it has been possible to tile several pages in the document space onto a single page in the device space of the printer. The number of pages you can tile depends in principle on the tiling geometry in the application that writes the page description program (2-up, 4-up, 8-up, 16-up and so forth), and in practice on the size of the printer format (A4, A3, A3 and so forth).
If a single page is split into several pages, then either the user has to have asked for this (for instance, when proofing a very large document co-ordinate space by tiling it onto a very small device space for a poster on a LaserWriter), or the user has to have accidentally made the settings for the printing system assume that this is the case. Without knowing what printer or what printer driver you have installed, a suggestion might be that your printer driver is passing the wrong information backwards to the system software. Printer drivers are made by printer manufacturers and may be specific to the printer model. You might have more luck if you ask the printer manufacturer's list. Otherwise, try the formatting option 'for any printer' when you write out your PDF page description program, open the page description program in Apple Preview, and then let the printing system do what it does - hopefully to your satisfaction.
    Best,
    Henrik
