Setting while balance for off camera flash

I have a Canon SX20 and an old Astor Light flash system, and when I use the flash white balance on the camera white photographs as pale yellow. I'd like to do a custom white balance but can't figure out how to it with flash. What are my options? I'll try the AWB next to see how that works.

Not sure about the old flash system. I used to carry a collapsible white and grey card around , and I would sometimes remember to include it in some of my shots. It was a pain and now I just fix it in post in Lightroom. Find anything white in the photo and use the dropper tool to sample from it for custom WB. It may not be perfect but you can adjust a little, then sync that shot with all the others in the same spot.
You will have trouble if you are bouncing off a colored wall because it will pick up odd colors. Same with mixed light (flash + tungsten + fluorescent + sunlight, etc..).

Is there a way to use an off camera flash or remote flashes on a Rebel T5? (This is not a T5I)

I have a Rebel T5 I just bought a few months ago. I like it as it is a great entry into DSLR. I will be looking at upgrading in a few months. But in the meantime, I just bought a speedlight kit (not Canon) and it came with 2 speedlights and the remote trigger and 2 remote receivers. Is there a way to enable the camera to use off camera flash? i was able to put one of the flashes on as an extrenal flash but I have not been able to figure out how to enable off camera flash.

Thank you Skirball. It did come with a trigger. I must not have had the correct settings. When I first got the set, I put the trigger on the camera and hooked the lights to the receivers and it did not work for me. I thought I needed a special setting. But I must have had the receivers set to camera instead of flash. Once I put it on today, it worked and triggered both flash units. Incase anyone else has this issue, the kit I bought from Amazon is the Altura 2 flash kit that came with 2 speedlghts, the trigger and 2 receivers. I paid $169 for it. But when I hooked them up today and had the receivers set to Flash, they both were triggered when I pressed the shutter button.

Canon Speedlight 270 EX as a macro off camera flash?

Hi,
I´m considering to buy tomorrow, a second hand unit for a nice price (+-50,00 USD) of the older Canon Speedlight 270 EX (not the version II) as a macro off camera flash?
The bounce head feature seems a nice way to use for my macro subjects (for bounce light) or direct light with the flash upside down/belly up firing to my subjects directly.
My question is this:
1.
can I use this older unit with a flash cord?
(This flash isn´t capable of wireless/infrared communication. So only with a ETTL cord I guess).
2.
which Canon cord should I use?
As an example you can check macro DYI rigs using both 270EX and 270EX II unit.
Mine will be the older 270EX (version I)

Any "Off Camera" OC-E? cord will do the job. They allow exactly the same function as mounting the flash directly in the camera's hot shoe. I use OC-E2 and OC-E3 interchangeably.
The only significant difference between OC-E2 and OC-E3 is the way the end locks onto the shoe... the E2 uses a "dial" type fixing mechanism you tighten, while the E3 uses a lever mechanism. The E3 was redesigned to be more water/dust resistant, at the same time as the 580EX, 430EX and some other flashes were intro'd with a similar mounting foot.

Canon T1i and Speedlite 580EX for off camera usage

I have a T1i and 580EX (not 580EX II) flash. I would like to use the flash of the camera. Would I need any other devices (trigger, transmitter)? If not, then could you give me the guide as how it is set. Thanks in advance.

Correct. See page 31 of the 580EX manual on how the wireless feauture works. Here's a link to Canon's online copy of the manual: http://downloads.canon.com/cpr/software/camera/580EX.pdf
You can also use a Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2. This unit is not a flash.. it's just a transmitter (it's basically a non-flashing "master" that can trigger any Canon "slave" unit.) Having a 2nd flash is perhaps a bit more versatile (but also larger and heavier).
You can tell a Speedlight flash in "master" mode that you don't want it to fire. The point of having a flash "on" but telling it not to fire is that it will still work as a commander (master) to trigger your remote slave units. You will actually see the flash fire if you watch it... but it's only firing the pre-flashes necessary to communicate with the slave units. When the shutter opens to take the shot, only the slaves will fire -- not the master -- so your image wont be impacted by the light you see flashing from the master.
E-TTL flash technically always fires twice... once to do the pre-flash and then again when the camera shutter opens to take a shot. This happens so fast most people don't realize it fired twice.

Question on color balance for DV camera

Most of my shots look a little dull on the color, but acceptable. But when I took a shot of a campfire at night, I realized how off the color was. Campfire glow was lime green instead of orange/red. I have performed a manual white balance, but still no luck getting the proper colors from my DV camera. Also tried adjusting clip in FCP. I was hoping I could display a still shot for an example, but couldn't. Any camera adjustment suggestions? Or FCP tricks? Thanks.

I have a JVC JY-VS200U. It's about 4 years old, and was one of their low-end professional line cameras. It can send colorbars. I've looked in the manual for all possible adjustments. I white balanced manually, hoping that would help, and it didn't. I've imported the campfire clip, and changed the hue in FCP, but still can't get it right. I've never used the colorbars feature on the camera. Is there a way I can use it to make a preset on FCP so that every clip I import, I can apply it and get the right colors?

Hi All,
I need to set up load balancing mechanism for Indesign Server CS5.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2(64 bit version).
I have dutifully following all steps defined in "WORKING WITH LOAD BALANCING AND QUEUEING FOR ADOBE INDESIGN CS5 SERVER.pdf"
After running Indesign server using batch file "startup-indesign-server-CORBA-4instances.bat" from "<ID_SDK>\samples\load-balancing-and-queuing-clients\indesignserver-startup-scripts", I get only one instance of Indesign Server running. How to run multiple instances of the INDD server ? Is running multiple instance has something to do with type of licensing ?
Now I run Clover.cmd script, I get this screen. I have no idea why its not working. Please help. Please let me know, if the scenario is not clear and more information is required.

Is it possible to set a password for the camera roll without jailbreak?

Why don't apple add this feature to iphone software update? I don't wanna type password again and again to awake my iphone. The only thing I need password to get access to is the cameral roll !! I really don't want to jailbreak. Hope apple would consider my thoughts.

Looking for a camera with no shutter lag!

Currently I have a KODAK normal everyday digital camera... Since I had my son, I have been very aggravated with this camera due to the shutter lag. By the time I press the button, in the 5 second delay, my son has already turned his head and all I have is a blur for a picture.
I am looking to get a new camera, possibly a DSLR in the price range of about $400-$450
I know the DSLR camera is big and bulky, but my pictures will totally be worth it!
Can someone give me any suggestions on which camera I should get?

No camera has zero shutter lag, but DSLRs have significantly lower shutter lag than most point and shoots.
You'll probably be fine with any of the entry-level kits (body + lens).
Note, a few things can contribute to a perception of shutter lag which aren't actually shutter lag:
1) Autofocus performance. DSLRs blow away point and shoots here due to fundamental differences in the way their AF systems operate (contrast detect in P&S or mirrorless vs phase detect in SLR - phase detect is MUCH faster). Nikon's SLRs tend to be the king when it comes to AF performance. With P&S cameras, this can often be worked around by "prefocusing" (on most cameras, pushing the shutter halfway down and waiting for "that moment", and some P&S cameras permit manual focus. (I got some great pictures at Sea World with a Panasonic DMC-LX1 this way - I was up in the stands so just set manual focus to infinity and shot away.)
2) Flash recycle time - Most cameras won't trip the shutter if the flash is in use and not ready. The builtin flash of SLRs is only a minor improvement here, but an external flash can greatly improve this performance aspect. Plus off-camera flash opens up a whole new world of lighting techniques - see strobist.blogspot.com

In the Publish Settings window, in the HTML tab, at the top
of the window under the "Template" option is a second option:
"Detect Flash Version". Check this box. The AC_RunActiveContent.js
file will contain a couple of functions that will test the user's

If Find my iPad was never set up then scroll down & follow the directions under Recovery Mode:
Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support
If it was and the activation lock is triggered, then you will need to know the original Apple ID & password that her grandkids used to set it up or have them sign into iCloud & remove the device from Find My iPad before you can Restore it.

I have seen other iphone 4 have their riinger set up to flash the camera flash for incoming calls. I have not been successful to figure it out from the settings feature. does anyone know how to do this?
