Settings added when when images are imported

When I import images into Lightroom3 the images have already been tweaked.  How do I turn off the setting as the images are imported?  Second, when I attempt to send images to Photoshop for editing Lightroom makes a copy, how can I stop this fom happening?

Two things to avoid that LR applies "tweaking" on import.
1) Make sure that the <Apply Auto-tone adjustments> box is unchecked. You find it under <Preferences> in the <Presets tab>.
2) In the Import Dialog on the right hand side, in the panel <Apply During Import>, make sure that <Develop Settings> shows <None>.
There is no way to avoid making a copy when you open a RAW-file in PS. PS can not save a file as a true RAW-file; there is a Photoshop-RAW but that is not a true RAW-file like the one that your camera creates.Since PS can save your edits only in a different format than true RAW, by necessity a copy has to be made.
If you have JPG's in LR (or TIFFs or PSD's) and want to edit them in PS, you can choose <Open Original> and then no copy is made. But when you open these as <Edit a Copy with LR Adjustments> then again a copy is made.

  • Keeping Photoshop Raw Image Adjustments When Images Are Imported

I've got a bunch of raw images that have been adjusted in Photoshop. When these raw images are imported into Aperture, all the data stored in the .xmp files are stripped out, meaning the raw files are imported without any adjustments. Is there a way to import raw images so they retain the adjustments that have been made in Photoshop? I hope so. The idea of importing all my raw files into Aperture and having to readjust every single image is unthinkable.

With all due respect, I do "want" desperately to be able to use Aperture as a RAW converter-good workflow.
Sure... different meanings of "want". I "want" Aperture to be usable for that, but in its present state, you don't "want" to use it, because it's not very good at it. I tried a number of different pictures; it ranges from "okay" to "astoundingly bad", depending on the subject matter. In no case does it approach Adobe Camera Raw in quality; but it is not hideous in all cases.
Take a bunch of your own pictures and burn them to a CD, both RAW files and edited versions. Bring the CD to an Apple Store, sit down, and have a go at Aperture. In my case, it was the final thing that saved me the money of buying the software.
As a "better iPhoto" I think it's a winner. But it is, by no stretch of the imagination, a "professional" photography application. If it were a $50 replacement for iPhoto I'd probably have already bought it. It could be useful from an organization standpoint -- except for the fact that it can't read many of my Photoshop PSD files at all since they are in LAB color mode.

  • Lightroom CC isn't including color labels when images are imported

I've tried this several times, but it doesn't work. Lightroom CC will import metadata and even star ratings, but it won't import the color label data assigned to the images from within Bridge. How can I get that information to be imported?
In other words, working in Bridge CC I assigned star ratings and color labels to a folder full of JPG files. When I import those files into Lightroom CC, the images, metadata and the star ratings are imported, but no color label data was imported. None of the images have color labels when viewed in LR. They still retain the color labels when I view the files in Bridge CC, but they don't appear in LR.

I just struggled with this for an hour. Any changes made to labels inside Lightroom 5 didn't show up in Bridge CC after reading metadata from file, and imports into LR5 did not properly show Bridge CC's label colors. Instead, only a tiny white rectangle at the bottom right of each labeled thumbnail showed in LR5.
Finally figured it out. In the Lightroom 5 file menu up top, go to:
Metadata --> Color Label Set --> Bridge Default (select this option)
'Lightroom Default' was previously selected in mine, as I suspect all Lightroom 5 installs are initially.
Make sure that the names beside each color are identical in both Bridge & LR, or you will still have syncing problems.
    This should fix your problem!

  • Importing a catalog when the images are stored offline

I have cataloged 126 DVDs worth of images, around 7000 in all (lots of big TIFFs)
As I have done this over the last year, I have selected "import from current location" option so that the actual images stay on the DVDs and I just have the previews in LightRoom.
I am migrating from an old to a new computer. I am using LR 1.3.1.
I burned my LR catalog to a CD and told LR to "import from current location" after pointing LR to the .lrdb file on the CD.
All 7000 images were imported but the previews did not get imported.
I am thoroughly unclear how to get the previews into my new computer. I see a folder called "Lightroom Catalog Previews.lrdata" with a whole bunch of files in it but I don't understand how to get those into Lightroom.

Did you burn the previews folder to the CD as well?

  • I am using LR5.3 and some of my images are importing about 30 degrees off of the horizontal

I am using LR5.3 and when I import photos from my PC running Windows  7 Professional (x64) with Service Pack 1, some of the images that I import using either Minimal of Standard settings load into LR but are tilted about 30 degrees from the horizontal, see screenshot below wher 4 of the images are tilted.
Please advise me of a solution

If you think getting your web pages to appear OK in all the major browsers is tricky then dealing with email clients is way worse. There are so many of them.
If you want to bulk email yourself, there are apps for it and their templates will work in most cases...

The alternative is to use a marketing service if your business can justify the cost. Their templates are tested in all the common email clients...

  • Color changes when images are imported

I read the answer provided earlier by Ian but the reply left one aspect unanswered. Is there any way to turn off that feature and have LR use the info provided by the camera. I generally MUCH prefer what I see before LR works it over.

Geoff, Leejay, you miss the point.
LR has big problems converting pictures that have the certain characteristics.
In this case (and only this that I have noticed) it is when shot with strong red/and or warmer color temperatures.
It happens with the Eos-1 family and Eos-5.
It happens (for me) when shot with the said halogen/tungsten (3600k) lights.
It happens when you try to maintain the the warm tone.
It happens when you shoot raw.
The picture quality is "fine" if you colorcorrect the picture to neutral, but the point is, I dont want to do that.
Phase one and DPP programs does not have problems with such lighting, they both render the tones just right.
The problem with LR is that I can not acchieve the same results with the inboard engine!
No matter what tweaking and tinkering, the image just degrades and falls apart.
Same if you shoot with stronger colored lights, especially in the red spectrum.
The reason why this IS an issue for me (and 2 other studios that I know well) is that tungsten lights (arris) are used a LOT in fashion photography. The tones achieved with the DPP and PhaseOne are extremely close to what Kodak´s 400X used produce back in the film time, that beloved film..
Now the photographers and ADs want to reproduce the same tones, and with LR it´s seems to be impossible.
Now we have to port a another program in the workflow just to produce the desired results.
    Wich is PITA.
So,in my view, with all respect Geoff and Leejay, stop being such a bloody apologists.
The problem lies,as I see it, in the LR engine, wich could need some tweaking in that area.
Otherwise, and with other lights (be it HMI,Kinoflos, flashes) that program is extremely good.
Or do you suggest that the program is perfect?

  • When viewing images after import....

I have a fundamental question about viewing RAW pics on screen in Aperture right after an import. I shoot Nikon and was told that only CaptureNX will allow me to see my in-camera settings (white balance, saturation, contrast, etc.) when I shoot RAW. So when I pull up the imported image in NX, I would be looking at my picture with the settings written to them as well. And it's true. My cool/bluish white balance settings showed right up on the image the way I set them in the camera while shooting in RAW.
What I'm wondering is, if I am "only able to see these in-camera settings in NX" what am I seeing in Aperture on the screen? It appears that these in-camera settings are also showing up in Aperture. I shot RAW with a very cool white balance, and that's what appeared after import in Aperture.
Was the advice about "NX only" incorrect? Does Aperture show us our in-camera settings on the monitor when shooting in RAW? Any help with understanding this is appreciated.
    Jerry

i believe that the only in-camera setting that you will see is the white balance ...
any in-camera sharpening, saturation, etc on a RAW file will only be seen on the embedded jpeg when using any software other than the manufacturers - this holds true for Canon too ... this is due to the proprietary information that the makers use in these settings ...
this is also why if you change your camera to shoot monochrome and then shoot RAW, aperture or lightroom (or others) will not apply the monochrome ...

  • Labeling all images in a stack; when all images are stacked

A long time ago, when I was using Photoshop Elelments I found a plug-in that made it possible to work with stacks as a unit.
If I labeled the top image in the stack that lable was applied to all the images in the stack; then I could sort the the image on top and all the images in the stack would stay together, or if I deleted an image in the stack all the images in the stack were deleted.  Without it I have open each stack I lable and apply the lable, so when I sort the stacked images they stay together.
I don't remember where I found that plug-in and I'm sure it would work in Photoshop.  Anyone else use it and know where I can find it?

I do not use Lightroom when you wrote "Stack" in Photoshop that refers to the layer stack.  The link you posted seems to be more about paring files.  I do not know much about lightroom except it organizes your images using logical databases. Lightroom calls this its Library system.  I know the book libraries have book stacks so it would surprise me that Lightroom had some type of stacks.  You started by stating when you used PSE you used something to manage stacks.  I thought now the you are using PS you needed something for it.  This thread most likely belongs in the Lightroom forum.

  • App reboots when an image is imported

The app reboots whenever I import an image from my photo library. I've already set the maximum import resolution to 12mp and I have no other apps running. I can create a blank document but as soon as I try to import an image it reboots. I have rebooted my device thrice, it hasn't helped. I'm using an HTC One X+. Thanks!

Seems like the update didn't fix the issue at least not for some users. Looking at the logs that we have gotten it seems to be connected to
something internal in Android. Things that you can try out to see if they help
    Disable developer settings
clear gallery cache and data and restart
clear media storage cache and data and restart
disable Gallery and use another one like e.g. QuickPic
use different camera - any - but try to avoid unstable cameras
You could help us by trying to give us a list of your installed applications, since it can be another application that has an impact by some reason.
Do you have specific hardware on like. e.g bluetooth, are you listening to e.g. music during the same time or other resident applications that work in the background?
It would also be good to know how many images you have on your device.
    thanks,
    Ignacio

  • Length of events in lightning when the events are imported from external application

    Hello,
I am using the lightning calendar along with the Thunderbird. Also I have imported the following calendar to the lightning so i am getting the events directly to my calendar ( webcal://app.kigo.net/public/ics.php?p-9907bef8f54b4093e01b67caf4c02651).
This calendar is from a channel manager application (kigo) for hotels and it can send two events to the lightning, the reception event for the crew who is at the reception and the cleaning events for another person.
The problem is when i am sending an event for the reception the length of the event is 60 minutes as i have set it in the option of the lightning (which is fine) but when i am sending a cleaning event the length of the event lasts 10 hours regardless the fact that i have set it to the default 60 minutes.
I have contacted also the company's (kigo) support and they said that they send the events in the same
format to all calendars and they cannot define the length time from there for each calendar solution.
Do you have any idea about how to set the cleaning event also at 60 minutes??
    Thank you in advance

Ok this makes little of no sense to me.
The web application should be sending fully formed events with start and duration. So your setting in Lightning should have nothing at all to do with the program your receive.
I create an even and email you an invitation that invitation specifies duration, not your copy of lightning or Outlook. This kigo thing must set the duration of the events it creates, that is how ICS works..

  • How do I print a single image when multiple images are open?

There was discussion on this back in 2009 but I hope that things have been put right - if they have, I can't find the answer.
I have multiple images open and want to print just the top image. I can't do it - PSE prints all of them and uses the same settings for all of them!
The solution appears to be to select the image to be printed in the project bin and then print. But I hate the project bin - simply a waste of screen area.
Is using the project bin the only way to do this?
    Mac OS 10.6.8

Click in the project bin to select it before you enter the print window.
Oops, sorry, just saw your comment about that. Yes, the only way unless you want to just remove the others once in the PSE print window.

  • Can I show a spinner when the images are loading

I am now using flash builder 4.5.1 to create a mobile application. there will be multiple images in the view. I want to use  a spinner to indicate the image is loading, and once the image loaded,  the content of each image be replaced by the original mobimage.
    1) For IconItemRenderer, how to show the spinner?
    2) For the Image control, how to show the spinner?
Thanks and hope you can understand my question and also hope some people can answer me.

Is working on FCE projects while all the video files are saved on an external drive a bad idea?
Not at all. This is the correct way to work with a laptop.

  • Mail crashing after OS update when some images are attached- Spamsieve user

Mail program crashes when I attempt to open some emails with attachments. Spinning colored wheel and then crash.
What portion of crash report is needed to assess problem?

I followed Apples instructions and removed the extra copy Mail.app that I did not know I had - but it continued to crash with mail that had attachments- until I re-installed the combo updater. I had re-installed the update already- but it seems that you have tio re-install again after you delete the extra copy of Mail.app.
Finally the mail works again- sheesh!
