Settings corruption in 6.0.2 update

When I updated my 2nd generation Apple TV (MC572LL/A) to the latest software, 6.0.2 (6646.81.1) I was no longer able to stream purchased TV shows or movies from my Home Sharing iTunes library - I got the infamous "Authorization is required" screen instead.  Non-protected video streamed fine, and AirPlay to the Apple TV worked.  The homeshare server itself could play the protected files perfectly, so it wasn't a real authorization problem.  The usual steps of signing out and in again to the iTunes account, updating payment information, updating time zone, updating billing address, etc, had no effect.
What did finally work was doing a full Restore to factory settings - erasing all content in the process - downloading and installing 6.0.2 again, then re-entering the Apple ID and other settings.  After that, homeshare protected video plays perfectly.
The menu item you want is Settings > General > Reset > Restore.

My iPhone 5 WiFi speeds with iOS 6.0.2 are the same as with 6.0.1 and not a problem.
You might try Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset network settings to see if that helps.
Note also that you aren't addressing Apple here. This is a user to user technical help forum hosted by Apple.

Note also that Speedtest results are highly variable depending on network traffic, etc.

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

Have you tried restarting the iPad or resetting it and then try to update?
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This should not matter - but at this point you might as well try this as well. Close all apps, restart the iPad and then try to update again.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button. Restart the iPad.

  • Anyone have problems with apple ID's? I have the correct ID in my settings but when I try to update my apps my ID shows my first name and last name but not my ID? I'm not sure what else to do because I've made sure I have the correct ID in my settings!

I think its meant to show your name, not your ID.

You will need to post the exact message, although I would guess that the download was corrupted during download. Did you do it over a wireless network? It may be better to connect straight to the ethernet port and download from there or try going to
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1643
    and download directly from there.

You only have the option if you are already running iOS 5. If you are trying to update the iOS, you have to use iTunes on a computer to update the iPad.
There are some important things that you should know before you update.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4972
The updating instructions are in this article. Make sure you read the part about using iTunes.

I am trying to update an iPhone 4 but I can't follow the instructions above because "software update" is not an option under settings/general.  How can I update my phone?

The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

Then you will need to update to iOS 5.1.1 as outlined above.  A word of caution before updating: be sure to import all your photos to your computer and back up your contacts (by syncing with a supported program such as Outlook, to an online service such as Google, or using an app like My Contacts Backup).  Failure to do so risks losing your data.
    Syncing an iPhone 4 requires:
Mac: OS X v10.5.8 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 10.5 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
You will first need to meet these system requirements in order to sync (and update) your phone.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • The update could not be verified. It may have been corrupted during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs.

How can I solve this? Every time I have the option to update an application I receive the same notification: "The update could not be verified. It may have been corrupted during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs"

Can we eliminate one minor possibility: are you in the UK and using Virgin Media cable connection? I ask because the latest 'Superhub' firmware is corrupting large downloads for some people.
