Settings Dependencies Registry Corrupted

I was trying to fix some issues with the power management Metro app, and I tried to install the Settings Dependencies driver downloaded directly from Lenovo's website. I did not uninstall the version that was already installed, and it seems that that caused the registry for the driver to be corrupt. Now Solution Center is telling me Lenovo PM Device is disabled, which Device Manager says is because of registry problems.
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
I have tried uninstalling then deleting the registries in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{[deviceGUID]} and then reinstalling, but the registry issue is still there.
Can somebody offer some insight?

Hey there Huzuodian,
Have you tried using the system restore function to get back to a point prior to the install and registry corruption? By restoring back before this, the registry will be reset to what it was at that time.
This article on Microsoft Windows site than can give some insight on the different recovery processes that may provide some options. Hope this helps.

  • Applying presets causes filter settings to get corrupted if process version updated

I have an ongoing problem with Lightroom 5.7 including earlier versions.  The problem occurs when editing photos which use previous process versions (ie, 2010).  My presets all have the Current Process version checked (as they should).  Whenever I apply any preset to a photo, the settings for existing filters get corrupted (reset to 0).  This includes my Graduated Filter settings, Adjustment Brush settings and Radial Filter settings.  Those filters and their masks remain on the photo but their parameters have all been set to zero.  I keep falling into this trap since it's natural to use my presets when making updates to photos.  Often I don't realize this occurred until it's too late.
As a work-around (inconvenient) I can first manually update to the current process by right-clicking the photo and saying Settings/Update to Current Process (2012).  Or by clicking the Lightening Bolt button in the upper right corner.  But this must be done prior to applying any presets and I typically for get as my database has tens of thousands of pics. Even a preset with just the Process Version set will cause the filter settings to be corrupted.  I'm not interested in applying a batch or Quick Develop process to all at once since I need to inspect each one as the process is updated.  It would be great if this could be fixed in a maintenance release since it keeps biting me.  I think it's important that this be fixed in LR 6.0 also.  No doubt it's messed up many user's photos without them realizing it.  Does anyone know a work-around so Presets can be used?
    System: Win7 pro 64 (current), 4.2 GHz i7, 12GB, Lightroom 5.7.

In my opinion: not a good idea to convert old photos en-batch.
Recommend: convert (hand-selected photos) one at a time, or just use PV2012 on new photos.
There are more than one reason:
    * As you know, process conversion yields very different results (if photo has been substantially edited).
    * It takes some time to polish your PV2012 editing skills.
    * Often when you are comparing PV2012 results to previous PV2010 results (which you've become familiar with, and like...), you may interpret differences in a more negative light, than if you were using PV2012 without comparing to a previous PV2010 version.
This last one can not be over-stated. Numerous times I have converted and been disappointed, at least initially. Recovered highlights can seem like loss of contrast. Detail in shadows can be distracting after initial conversion, until you step back for a while, then re-look at it...
Also, the process version itself (results I mean) takes some getting used to (even when not comparing to a previous legacy-pv edit). e.g. if you've become attached to the over-saturated shadows in previous process version, the shadows seem under-saturated in PV2012, etc...

  • Set Word 2013 Track Changes settings via Registry edits or Group Policy?

    Hi
Would anyone know if there is a way of changing Track Changes settings via registry edits or Group Policy (e.g. changing Simple Markup All Markup)? I've had a look in Group Policy Admin Templates and the Registry but cant see relevant
    Thanks!

    Hi,
The All Markup/Simple Markup selection is controlled by the RevModeShowSimpleMarkup value within the following registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\Options
The value is 0 (zero) for All Markup or 1 (one) for Simple Markup.
If we close all Word instances, and change the value to 1, then start Word, the All Markup option should be selected.
In addition, some track change settings can also be controlled by the GPO settings in the following location:
Administrative Templates > Microsoft Word 2013 > Word Options > Track changes and compare
If you still need further assistance on this issue, please feel free to let me know.

  • Registry corrupt, need correct settings

    Hi,
My fine collegues changed the domain to which the machine with the htmldb installation belongs to. The http-server will not start anymore.
I looked in the registry and found out that all the oracle settings were gone. I managed to restore some settings by looking at an other machine with htmldb. But the differance is that the other machine has a local DB and this machine uses a remote database, so I think I miss some setting.
The error (D:\Ora10gHTML\opmn\logs\HTTP_Server~1) I'm getting now is:
    05/02/21 10:50:39 Start process
[Mon Feb 21 10:50:43 2005] [crit] cannot get hostaddr from hostname

[Mon Feb 21 10:50:43 2005] [emerg] MOD_OC4J_0202: Failed to create internal process table. Is about to exit.
The registry settings I set manually are:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\KEY_Ora10gHTML]
    "ORACLE_HOME"="D:\\Ora10gHTML"
    "ORACLE_HOME_NAME"="Ora10gHTML"
    "ORACLE_GROUP_NAME"="Oracle - Ora10gHTML"
    "NLS_LANG"="NA"
    "ORACLE_OPMN_SERVICE"="OracleOra10gHTMLProcessManager"
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\KEY_Ora10gHTML\HTTP_Server]

I suppose there has to be some key which contains the hostname of the machine with the database ??
    Chris

You could always backup your HTML DB apps and any files in the images directory, un-install Apache and re-intall it. I don't think it will un-install HTML DB. I did this the other day on Linux and it worked great. Basically, someone had modified one of the opmn config files and http server wouldn't start. After 20 min or so of enabling logging and trying to debug the issue, I realized it would much faster to simply backup what I had and re-install. 20 min later, I was up and running. Just a thought.

  • Need to know how to remove ALL previous Outlook settings in Registry and file locations (cross posted)

Problem: I cannot get a newly installed Outlook 2013 to connect to the [online Office 365] server with old [non-domain] logon profile. That is my issue, and what I'd like to fix. (There's some services and settings on the old profile
that cannot be easily duplicated. Also, I'm just enough annoyed by this to ask for suggestions.)
Background: I upgraded an existing Office 2007 install of several years back to Office 2013 on an continuously used [non-domain] user profile (I needed connections to several Exchange accounts at various domains I remotely admin
and was tired of logging on through OWA, so it was time to upgrade). Up to Sunday last, I have never had issues with Outlook and Office 365 connections to that account; upgrading Office 2013 "killed" my outlook.office365.com connection to emails.
Testing: I created a new [non-domain] logon profile, and Outlook 2013 connects to my outlook.office365.com account just fine with the new logon profile. To repeat:
there were NO connectivity issues in connecting to my Office 365 account in the
new [test] logon profile with Outlook 2013, and using Outlook 2013 on the new [non-domain] profile.
The problem is profile specific, to an older existing profile (I'd like to use).
Just FYI: my [vanity] domain tests just fine with the Exchange 365 online tools. Office 365 works. OWA works. Outlook 2013 works (in the new logon profile). Mobile devices work.
There are no major problems with the domain name in MXToolbox, or Microsoft Remote Connectivity Tester. Both Windows and Office are fully patched on my workstation. There's no malware.
The problem is something in my older logon profile. Something somewhere locally to that logon and/or Outlook-specific profile is keeping it from logging into the [Office 365] mail server. I just get the typical "cannot connect to
    the server" error.
What's Needed: So what I need is a link to a webpage (or pages) that details ALL [existing] Outlook/Exchange settings that are profile specific ...so I can
manually remove them from the Registry, from the drive, etc.
...something on the order of "...remove all profiles under
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem" and "...delete all files in
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook" (neither of which fixed the issue, whatever the real issue may be ...but that's all I found so far that seemed pertinent). Anyways, "stuff"
    like that.
Alternatively, if someone knows what Registry keys, other settings, etc., I can export/import from the test logon profile to my "real" logon profile(s), that would be worth a shot, and greatly appreciated.
Or maybe just some google search suggestions that might find the above links (listing error message contents hasn't been useful: too many hits).
Me: I'm a sys admin with over 30 years experience. I'm not looking for suggestions on how to set up an Exchange account, or an Office 365 account, or to setup a new mail profile or logon profile (or to remove either of those), or to add
a new email account (manually or with auto-discover), or to remove an old account. None of that applies and/or has worked in this case.
Thanks in advance for your interest. I really need a knowledgeable wizard, since I'm looking for a solution to a complex issue. My own googling and troubleshooting has just turned up the usual noob' stuff. At this point, I'm at a loss. The well is dry.
    Update:
This question is cross-posted from the general "answers" forum (at the suggestion of a moderator).
    Update: I also came across
this page of "advanced" Outlook settings (and it hasn't helped so far, either).

I too, for over 30 days have been trying to find an answer as my situation is as similar as it gets.  I too have tried all and everything as you have.
How I wish there would have been an answer to your question.  It would have answered mine as well.
Seems typical to microsoft "help" unless it is the usual noob response and/or "more clarification" (I with no tech degree understood exactly what you refer to) the only response is well, just no response......

  • H520s Windows 8 DVD-ROM disabled and error 19 - registry corrupt Help please!

Hi all and hoping for help with H520s, 64bit  OS Windows 8. Error message showing  problem with DVD-RAM Mat**bleep**a SW820; this is disabled in the device manager, and I can't use the DVD drive as a result. (yellow triangle)
Have tried windows fix utility on pc ; drivers are up to date. Have disabled, enabled etc. But it's still error 19
This was working perfectly until a couple of days ago when Microsoft ran a mega load of updates, including critical windows 8 updates. Am wondering if there's some conflict?
Have searched the Lenovo solution centre for up to date drivers for the dvd-RW but there aren't any. Don't really want to uninstall the DVD-ROM drive and attempt reinstall unless can definitely reinstall and can't find anything that reassures me I wil be able to do so.
Wondering if Is this similar to another issue on Toshiba pcs where it seems, according to various searches,  it was a corrupted registry entry due to conflicts with pre installed pc rescue type utilities?
I'm no IT expert and the idea of registry fiddling is not reassuring.

  • AutoPlay settings in registry. Where can I find it?

    Hello,
If I put in an AudioCD, it should start automatic. It works fantastic if I change the settings in Windows 8 for automatic Play.
But I need the registry entries for this action. I want to change the registry that it plays the CD automatic, WITHOUT using the settings in Windows 8 for autoplay.

because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
    How do I correct this?

    Click Start
    click All Programs.
Click Accessories, and then click Run.
Type regedit, and then click OK.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
In the right pane, click UpperFilters.
Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Compliance Settings and registry key name

    Hello,
in my baseline, i need to check if a registry key exists (..i know it's easy using an existential rule type), but i need to use the "LIKE" to compare the key name.
Example: the registry key can have the name "RegKeyName_1" OR "RegKeyName_2" OR "RegKeyName_3" so i need to check something like "RegKeyName%"
    How can i do that? I hope it's clear...thanks!

First you read the needed registry key values and then store them to variables, after that you compare these variables and return the value based on your needs.

  • 'the preferences file is corrupt and has been reset to the default settings' - cs4 Mac

    greetings!
every time i start illustrator i encounter a new error.
"the preferences file is corrupt and has been reset to the default settings."
"the corrupt file will be backed up as Adobe illustrator Prefs.err"
this problem manifested after i added some more .ai and .ase files to my swatches directory. i do not believe anything else changed.
not sure how to diagnose the problem. is there a debug mode or something? perhaps an offending file.
an option would be to try remove each added swatch file or folder individually, but this would be a very very time consuming process for me.
i use cs4 on a Macbook pro  running Snow Leopard - 10.6.2 and would appreciate your advice.
    thank you

    s,
Every time you close down Illy, the current preferences (which may have been changed while you worked on files) are saved, and every time you start up Illy, those preferences will be used.
Usually, preference corruption probably occurs randomly, caused by the OS, but if something in your files change the preferences to something that is not viable you will get an error like that.
You may press Cmd+Option+Shift during startup, which will replace the current preferences with the defaults, and probably you will get rid of the error message. It is probably not a cure, though.
If the error is persistent, the cure would be to get rid of the offending things in the files you work with.

  • Metis 266 (6390v2.x) corrupting registry with XP Pro

    Hi All,
We have 40 of the MSI Metis 266 Slim Case PCs with the MS-6390v2.0 mainboards, BIOS 2.4 and 2.5.
With XP Pro SP1 installed with all Windows Update patches, we are experiencing random registry corruptions with the following error message:
"Windows cannot start because a file is missing or corrupted. The file is WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM"
Could this be a faulty RAM issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

There are no MSI reps here, only us trying our best
What about my last suggestion. did you do the tests ?
    Quote
Let memtest run nonstop on machines that had reported errors
Run one with an open case (test for heat)
Run one with the timings manually set to the slowest
Run one with a larger PSU, slim PC's have pretty weak PSUs and depending on what you placed in them there might be a problem.
*In memtest86 you can enter the configuration menaue and tell it to run all tests including the advanced ones which are usually not preformed.
Do any of these boards have leaking capacitors ?
If you do a complete hardware swap between a working system and a falty system does the problem pass to the working one or does it stay with the board ?

  • Windows 8.1 SOFTWARE registry hive load failed on Windows Server 2012

    Hello,
I am participated in custom Windwows Software backup/restore project development that requires load of Windows SOFTWARE/SYSTEM registry hives from target OS system drive connected to Windows system.
On all Windows version except Windows 8.1 program works correctly but when host system (on that programm run on) is Windows Server 2012 or Windows 8 and target system is Windows 8.1 registry hive load failed with following error:
Failed to load f:\Windows\System32\config\software: [1009] The configuration registry database is corrupt.
After run of 'chkdsk /r' error still remained. All requred security privileges (SE_BACKUP, SE_RESTORE) are applied. All systems are 64-bit.
Generally even system registry editor (regedit) could not open SOFTWARE hive  from Windows 8.1 with following error:
Cannot Load f:\Windows\System32\config\software: Error while loading hive.
But when host system is Windows 7 or Windwos Server 2008 then SOFTWARE hive  loaded without any problem.
So is there some Windows 8/8.1 registry hives validation mechanism or additional security checks tha prevents load of registry hives fromother OS instance?

Sorry for later response. I was busy with other tasks.
The procMon tool shows RegLoadKey is failed when it tried to load the hive on Windows 8.1 (8.1 based WinPE also). On Windows 7, I didn't see the error (Shows Success instead of REGISTRY CORRUPT). Once the hive is load & unloaded on Windows 7 OS, the
check sum of the hive is changed, and I can load the updated hive with regedit in Windows 8.1 OS.

  • Notification Server error 2, Registry Key not found?

    Hello everyone,
I've got more of a cosmetic problem as it seems atm. When checking the Component Status, I see some red crosses in a couple of components. Two being SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER and SMS_NOTIFICATION_SERVER. The site itself seems to be working okay, although
it has some problems here and there, but nothing too troubling.
The first error, located in SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER, states that a the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\NotificationServer cannot be written and returns error code 6 - handle invalid.
The second error, located in SMS_NOTIFICATION_SERVER, states that the above mentioned key cannot be found and returns error 2 - cannot find file specified.
I've checked the registry and the key is definitely there. I also checked the permissions and local service, system and the Primary Sites computer account have full permissions.
    The Key contains three values:
    - Default - REG_SZ - No Data
    - Reserved 1 - REG_SZ - No Data
    - Reserved 2 - REG_SZ - No Data
    I've found this
thread that suggests a site reset as the solution, but that was already done two weeks ago and it's currently not an option as this is a live production system.
    Any suggestions?
