Settings erased when switching power modes

Let's start with the model: mid-2008 Macbook Pro (first unibody design, so you need to logout to switch power modes).
When I switch power modes (and log back in), 2 of my System preferences are back to their defaults. Specifically, my Sounds setting (for muting feedback when the volume is changed) and MobileMe are back to their defaults.
I have tried removing all MobileMe references from the Keychain, resetting the PRAM, among a few other simple fixes. Nothing has worked thus far.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

If 'cinema setting' means 24p then you will not be able to use that clip in PRE.
Ideally create different projects for each frame rate used. Then Share these projects to a common format and create a 'master project' with those setting into which you can load each of those Shares.

  • Is it possible to use software limits on 7354 board when switching control modes from open to closed or closed to open loop?

Is it possible to use software limits on 7354 board when switching control modes from open to closed or closed to open loop?

    Hello Richard,
When you say 'open loop' and 'closed loop', are you referring to running the application in position and torque mode? If not, how exactly are your controlling a servo motor in open loop?
In closed loop mode, the encoder values will be used as reference and the motion VIs can be used to configure the software limit as required. Are you currently losing the software limits? If so, how exactly are you losing these values? I am not sure I understood what exactly is happening with software limits in your program, so any more information on this would be useful.

  • Monitor settings lost when switching user accounts.

Hi! I just recently noticed that every time i switch user accounts, my monitor settings get corrupted.
There are 2 user accounts in my ibook. One account is used for work while the other one is used for home purposes. The work account has a specific monitor setting which is calibrated to our workstations. The other account has default settings on it.
My question is that when I switch users, the settings for my work account gets corrupted. I also can't change the settings without having to restart the book.
I already repaired permissions and zapped the pram. The same thing still happens.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello Chuck!
I've had this problem too. Like you, I managed to navigate to do a restart, but nothing else would make the mouse cursor reappear.
Bruce, I wasn't using Biggy, PinPoint or any of the other mouse visibility things, simply the magnification provided by System Preferences.
I put it down to a fault on 10.4.4—a very buggy release— and haven't yet been able to reproduce it on 10.4.5.
I suggest you send a fault report to Apple ([email protected]), explaining all the circumstances. Try always undoing the cursor zoom before switching users (yes, that's a pain too!!!). And if I manage to reproduce the problem, I promise I'll send in a fault report too!

  • Printer Settings change when switching between printers

First time in the forum, so please be gentle.  I know little about Adobe.
I am working with Windows XP (SP 2) machines (I know - should be at least on Windows 7, but can't change what my company has) and have Adobe Reader 8.1.2.  We have run into a "bug" of sorts.
Many of our locations (these are PCs all off-site) print labels (pdfs) with a Zebra brand printer where the labels are 2.25 by 4.00 inches.  The Zebra printers are always attached directly to the PCs where they create these labels.  Sometimes, they want to send the labels to a Lexmark printer that is attached at a Primary Server elsewhere.  When they do that, they make sure to choose "Fit To Printable Area" under Page Scaling when the Print Box comes up so that the 2.25x4.00 label is enlarged to fit on 8.5x11 inch paper.  The problem we run into is that right now, the default settings for these Zebra printers is 2x3 inches and Portrait.  We need them to be 2.25x4 and Landscape.  The user makes those settings changes and saves them and it used to be those settings hold once they save them.  We also have to change our Lexmark settings to "Letter - 8.5x11", otherwise it defaults to "Custom-4.88x21".  Recently, there's been this bug where if they save the settings for Zebra, print something, it's fine.  They switch to Lexmark, print to it with "Fit to Printable Area" it's also fine.  When they go back to the Zebra printer, suddenly the saved settings are gone and it's back to default.
This also is happening in the reverse - if the user usually uses the Lexmark, but switches once to the Zebra, then back to the Lexmark, the settings have defaulted again.  Someone here said they remember seeing something like this before in regards to Adobe Reader.  Does anyone have any ideas?
PS - I am creating a new image which will have the correct default settings for our needs so that hopefully this will not be an issue in the future.

    Hi BigRedEO,
Thank you for posting on the forums. This seems more like a printer issue as it is not retaining the settings.
Kindly try updating the drivers for the printer and check.
    Thanks,

  • Power Mode settings

In Settings-Power Mode, what is the difference between high performance, normal, and economy? What is the best option for optimum battery life?

        Hi damfinejoe,
I apologize for the delayed response because I realize the importance of conserving battery life! To receive the best battery life, I suggest the economy setting. Your device will automatically switch to power saver mode when the battery level reaches a certain level. I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.^AB

    Ok, sorry about that.
Currently seem to have a Grey Screen whenever I boot the desktop with the graphics card installed.
    1. I tried system restore to see if it was a program causing the grey screen, but same problem.

    3. Installed the latest version of the driver, as well as, beta version same problem.
    4. Removed the graphics card and put it back in booted up, same problem.
    5. Also tried the Molex Cables that came in the box to different power supply on the PSU, same problem.

  • Audio mutes when switching modes in Audio Cons

I have an Xfi Platinum that is working great except one annoying problem. Ever since I upgraded the drivers to the latest version, everytime I switch audio modes, for example from game to entertainment, the sound mutes on my system. I have to open the Windows XP sound control to uncheck mute every time. Has anybody experienced this problem and have a fix for it's I downloaded the mode switching program from a link on this forum, but it does the same thing. Thank you!

Don't know if this will help...  Try changing the multi-track preview/playback settings (press F4)...  If the playback buffer is too big or too small you may get dropouts...
Also try to defrag the hard drive with virtual memory turned off.  With VM off it may run slow, but it should defrag the swap file as well making your drive super optimized. You may have to boot in safe mode to make it work though...  Of course you can turn the VM back on when you're done...
Clean out the dust from the computer and make sure it isn't over heating...???

  • My 2009 iMac gets stuck on the grey Apple logo when booting up.  It boots correctly when in safe mode. I have tried erasing the HD and re-installing from a USB installer. It says the install is complete, but after restarting it gets stuck on the Apple log

My late 2009 27" iMac gets stuck on the grey Apple logo when booting up.  It boots correctly when in safe mode. I have tried erasing the HD and re-installing from a USB installer. It says the install is complete, but after restarting it gets stuck on the Apple logo again.  This could possibly be an HD failure, but then why does Safe Mode still work and the USB install not work?  Any ideas?

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Help! mail dissappears when switching from junk training to automatic mode

I'm a new Mail user recently switched from 20 years of Eudora. I'm using Mail with a standard POP account. I've had no trouble setting up mailboxes and importing my old mail.
I've been using junk filtering in training mode for the past few weeks and want to switch to automatic mode. When I tried doing this, all of my inbox messages suddenly disappeared. I quit mail and rebuilt my inbox and found myself with thousands of duplicated messages. I'm using Andreas Amann's remove duplicates script to clean up my inbox (it's taking forever but working!)
My inbox has about 7000 messages currently. My practice with Eudora has always been to keep the current year in the inbox and archive at the beginning of the new year. I'd like to continue this with Mail.
    A couple questions:
    1) will rebuilding a mailbox cause duplicates? When should one use rebuild?
    2) do I just need to be more patient and let mail do its thing when switching from training mode to automatic?
    3) is 7000 messages considered too many for a single mailbox?
Any help much appreciated. Many thanks!

    1) will rebuilding a mailbox cause duplicates?
    No.
    When should one use rebuild?
This question doesn’t have a simple answer in the case of Mail 2.x and POP accounts.
    2) do I just need to be more patient and let mail do its thing
when switching from training mode to automatic?
    I think so.
    3) is 7000 messages considered too many for a single mailbox?
There is a limit on the overall size of individual mailboxes rather than on the number of messages stored in them -- see Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty.

  • Why is the Camera app so slow when switching modes?

When I switch modes between still-photo and video (or back) in the Camera application, there is a 2-3 second pause while the "iris" appears and disappears. Ok, that's not very long, but when you are in a rush to capture "that moment" it can be all the difference between "great" and "rats!".
I get that an app can take a few seconds to load, but switching camera modes should be nearly instantaneous, shouldnt it? Do other people see the same delay, or is it just me? Are there any known tweaks to improve this delay?
On an iPhone 4 with latest iOS.

I don't know why Apple doesn't fix this problem or even acknowledge it. I have had this problem since 1.1.2. Upgrading through 1.1.3, 1.1.4 and on the 2.1 has not helped. My SMS loading time varies between 3 and 10 seconds. I maintain all my SMS messages deleted (which I should not have to do). Due to lack of support from Apple I purchased a Nokia phone for my son. At least basic phone features work like they should.

  • Is there a way I can save switch settings so when I reopen a Labview exe it remembers how I set my switches?

We are using Labview to create a exe file. However when a user reopens the exe all the user settings in the labview exe are lost. These settings are mostly switches either turned on or off. I would like to find a way so that once the switches are set each time you reopen the exe file the switches are as you left them set.
I am very new to Labview so any help would be very much appreciated.

I think your best bet is go to the File I/O>Configuration File VIs and create an .ini file. When you program starts, it would read the file and set the controls using local variables. Then, prior to exiting, get the control values and write them to the file. You could even read and write different files - allowing for a whole lot of different configurations to be saved. In the shipping examples, go to Fundamentals>File Input and Output>Read Configuration Settings File.vi and Write Configuration Settings File.vi to get a basic idea of how the functions are used.

  • Muvo TX FM: is the 256mb slightly faster than the 512mb when switching modes?(and starting u

I was just wondering if the muvo tx fm 52 is slightly slower than the muvo tx fm 256 when switching modes ?
because i have the 52 and my dad has the 256 and i noticed there's a difference
both of them have the lastest firmware on them .5.0
both of them are reasonably full / capcaity close to full
when i switch from radio mode to music in folders mode : the transition between the two modes are smooth and immediate on the 256
but when i do this on my 52 : i seem to have to an extra second of waiting time before it goes back into music mode
yeah i know it's a bit nitpicky to bring such a thing up , but i thought it was strange that there would be a difference , since they're both the same model and firmware ( only a difference in capacity between the 2 )
this occurance didn't start to happen until i upgraded it recently to .5.0 ( when this occurance starting appearing )
or maybe it's just my 52 that does this ?
anyway another thing that's strange that i've tested :
if i do switch back to an older firmware version for my 52mb : this extra delay between switching modes is non-existant / goes away
( it was non-existant before i upgraded to the new firmware )
also another thing i've noticed is the 256 seems to be faster at starting up after turning on too
when i first turn it on , only takes till the /4 of the sand in the egg timer icon and drained to the bottom before it starts playing music
with the 52 , it doesn't start playing music until all the sand in egg timer icon has drained to the bottom ( a second longer wait before the music starts playing )
also another thing to note is that
the firmware that came with the 256 , was .5.0 ( bought in april )
i bought the 256 a couple of months ago
with my 52 , which i had since december : i've used firmware old firmware that came with that ( i think .0.04 ) ( until switching to the newest firmware recently )
i was just wondering what's calling this extra seconds worth of delay in my 52 , that's not present in the 256 ?Message Edited by low-quality on 07-04-2005 0:43 PMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 04:08 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:37 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:38 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:38 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:38 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:39 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:39 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:39 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:40 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:40 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:42 AM

Sounds like it could be because of the capacity difference, maybe a mod could confirm this.

  • Printer settings menu does not always change when switching printers

I am running OS 10.3.9 and also seen this issue on a 10.4 machine. When switching from one printer to another the printer options drop down menu does not always transfer to the correct menu for the newly selected printer. It stays at the menu for the last used printer. I am using several different Sharp printers as well as some HP models. The applications being used are Office 10 Word and Power Point. If anyone has seen this and has a fix I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks

I don't have a solution but have also noticed that the printer in the menu is sort of like spinning the wheel of fortune.
Hopefully there is a solution but my guess is that it has something to do with a printer preference file that can get hijacked by different printers and applications.
I have noticed that a printer driver when installed will usually appear as the default printer even if it was not selected as such. I have also notice that different applications will do different things with different printers so I hope someone has a solution.
