Settings for a third party app accessing the directory.

I've only ever used Open Directory to control user access to our computers, wikis, etc.
I am now using a VOIP Softphone called "Bria" which has the ability to connect to an LDAP server to access contact information.
In the settings, it asks for:
Server
Authentication Method (Anonymous or Simple)
User name (dn=)
Credential
Root DN
Search Expression
How to I find out what goes in these fields (I think I can figure out server, user name, and credential!;-))

The following is far from a complete answer, and I don't have a Bria around to check.
In the following, the host name with the Open Directory server is sls.example.net.  You'll need to substitute hunks of that host name in various parts of the following.  (Note that the terms used in the following are different than what you're using; they're a different application connecting to LDAP and performing user authentication, and not from a "Bria" device.)
server = sls.example.net
port = 389
bind_dn = uid={your-ldap-user-here},cn=users,dc=sls,dc=example,dc=net
bind_password = {your-ldap-password-here}
base_dn = cn=users,dc=sls,dc=example,dc=net
scope = sub
port_security = none
password_type = standard
What little I can find on the search expression (basically, nothing) is shown in this posting.
The other option according to this post appears to be to use Jabber/XMPP to get to this information, which should include iChat Server, which 10.6 does offer.
Unless you find somebody here that's used this combination, I suspect you'll have to rummage LDAP with Workgroup Manager and the Bria, or get somebody to rummage for you.  I dislike devices that connect into LDAP.  Not because it's a bad idea, it's a great idea, but rather that I've yet to encounter a device that documented the LDAP connection decently.   It seemingly always involves rummaging, too.

  • IOS 5 Notifications Not Working for Some Third Party Apps

    Recently updated my iPhone 4 to iOS5. Notification center worked perfectly for a week, but then I noticed that certain apps (Beluga) would not show up in the notification center despite receiving new messages. The home page didnt update with a badge either. It seems as if push notifications for some third party apps are not working correctly.
    I have already attempted all of these to correct the problem to no avail:
    1. Confirming notification settings for each application
    2. Turning notifications off and then on
    3. Removing and reinstalling app
    4. Restarting the iPhone
    5. Shutting down and powering up the iPhone
    6. Restoring the iPhone

    Having the same problem...  Ipad 2 running iOS 5 working fine.  My iPhone 4s gets the occasional Facebook notification but not much else.  Got home today and had about 5 notifications on the iPad that never came through to the iPhone.  Tried everything you tried and nothing....

    Where can i complaint about a Developer imposture for a third party app that i have already purchased?

    I'm not sure what you mean by a "developer imposture", but if you are having a problem with an app that the app's developer cannot or will not assist with, go here:

    and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.

  • Can't update Adobe AIR after Yosemite update and need it for a third-party app.

    I updated to Yosemite and had some issues. After receiving help from Apple, I could not open a third-party app; it said I needed to update Adobe AIR. When I tried to do that, I got the same message saying I needed to update AIR again. I tried uninstalling and installing AIR but without success. What steps do I need to take?

    I had a similar problem when trying to install Zinio.air. I have made it all work out. What i did was remove Adobe Air 15 entirely from the Utiliites and Library/ accounts and preferences. I then downloaded Adobe Air 13 and installed and then clicked on Zinio .air and it all installed ok. I also had to temporarily change security settings from Apple approved to Anywhere. All functioning now.

  • How do I allow parental controlled users to access third party apps on the admin account?

    I just set my son up with a separate parental controlled user account and he can't seem to access some third party games that we installed for him under my admin account. He has saved progress on these games that we don't want to lose, so I don't want to reinstall them. I checked them off as allowed apps, but when he tries to play- the game icon shows up in the doc then changes to the updater icon and they won't run. I've searched for answers to this question, but can't seem to find any. Please help? My son and I would be very grateful!

    Sure was! They used it on 4 different models. But that was Maverick, as in horse. This will be Mavericks as in ocean waves.

  • A note on AirPlay and Third-Party Apps on the 2G iPod Touch

    I've been experimenting to see what third-party audio apps work with AirPlay and an Airport Express on my second-generation iPod Touch. Anything that has a play/volume control--Pandora, Public Radio--is just the same as iPod. The trickier thing is apps that don't have that control. Apparently with a newer iPod/iPhone, there's a control in the multitasking interface to switch to the remote speakers in any app, but the 2G doesn't have that interface.
    What I found is that for some apps, if you switch to the remote speakers in iPod, pause, and launch the other app, the sound still comes through the remote speakers. This works for TapTap Revenge 2 and Beatwave, for example. It doesn't work for DigiDrummer, for some reason (which is just silent after the procedure above).
    Hoping that some of these audio-based apps can add the control eventually.

    right now it is only office, but it didn't do it before the update. granted office 2004 was slower on leopard than it was on tiger. i upgraded and office because it was supposed to be quicker and it's not. i've found that quicken is slow under leopard as well. yes, i know it's running under rosetta, but it was much much much faster under tiger running through rosetta.
    btw, i'm opening powerpoint by double clicking on the app in the dock, and the app folder, not a presentation.
    i've posted on the ms forum as well.

    You find third-party apps in the App Store. What app are you looking for? Due to problems, Apple removed the ability to record that information in Health. You can always go back to whatever you used before three weeks Health was released. Why can you not check and record your blood glucose? I would assume you check it using blood samples and a glucose meter which has nothing to do with your phone. You should be able to record it in any number of apps, from Notes to purpose made third-party apps.

  • Ipad "other space" from a third party app

    i have downloaded a third party app (torrent) but to no avail it doesn't play the movie that i have downloaded, even worse it took up "other" space when I tried opening it on VLC and File Manager but when i browsed on SETTINGS>General>Usage it did not use the memory for VLC and File Manager, I deleted the third party app but the other space remains, is there any way to free that space without doing a reset 'cause I haven't done any backups (itunes and icloud) or sync since i got my ipad.

    Do not call the number.
    Double tap the Home button, then swipe upwards on the Safari preview.
    Go to Settings - Safari - Clear History.
    Restart Safari.

  • Third party apps in notification center

    I use Thunderbird as my email client (dont like the native one in osx) and I was wondering if anyone was able to add that app (or any other third party app) to the notification center. I dont see anything to be able to add any apps but maybe I'm missing something....

    As to iTunes, you can comment to Apple on the matter here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
    For third-party applications, that's up to the developer of the application. Apple has provided an API to the Notification Center and that's all they can do. The developer is the one that has to implement it.
    Regards.

  • Printing from iPad - Why do I need third party app to print to a local network printer??

    Why do I need to pay for a third party app to print to ALL local network printer?? I understand that only some printers are compatable with iPads, but yet application like "iCanPrint" allow me to print just fine to a printer connected to my network. Why can't Apple include this as one of its features? Technology is apparently there?

    For that, and the many other apps to work, you need to be running a pc or Mac on the network.  The answer is drivers.  Every printer in the world needs a driver.  There simply is not enough space on a pad to load every possible printer driver that might be in play.  in the pc world, the operating system comes preloaded with hundreds of common drivers, and when you buy and install a new printer, you download the new drivers for that new printer.
    That all just will not work on a pad or phone.  So apple flipped the issue upside down, and said...'here is the printer driver we will make standard for its devices.  We call it AirPrint.  Include this in your printer'.    A lot of manufacturers have, and more printers are enabled each month.
    So your choice is pretty basic.  You can buy an AirPrint enabled printer and print directly to it, or buy a non AirPrint printer, or use the one you have, and rely on your pc to act as the translation device to manage the print job.

  • Access to my Office 365 third-party app for external user : "a User account is not registered for the account"

    In my third-party web application of Office 365, I want to have access to the contacts, events and emails of all the users from the organizations who installed my app. The thing is I don't want that all these users have to grant me access, I just want one
    admin of the org to grant access for my app and then be able to retrieve the data I need for all the users.
    To test for one organization, I logged in as the admin and proceed to the Oauth2 authentication to retrieve the access token and in the first request (the GET one to retrieve an authorization code) i add the parameter
    prompt=admin_consent.
    With this access token, I can access the data (emails, contact, event) of the admin
    for instance for the contacts
    uri: https://outlook.office365.com/ews/odata/Users(adminemail)/Contacts
    but not the data of the other users of this org with this uri
    uri: https://outlook.office365.com/ews/odata/Users(useremail)/Contacts
    The only thing I can do is retrieve an access token for each user but it supposed that each user has to authorize the access to the app but it's very cumbersome. So, i don't see what enables the parameter prompt=admin_consent and how to use it. Does anybody
    know what it does?
    And my question is: how can I do to access the data of all the users of one organization when the access has been granted by one admin?
    Thank you!

    This was answered on StackOverflow by Dushyant Gill.  http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25316175/access-to-my-office-365-third-party-app-for-external-user-a-user-account-is-n/25316678#25316678
    You are sending the OAuth request to a tenant specific endpoint of Azure AD. Note the {key_provided} part of your Url - that part represents the tenantid or a registered domain name of an Azure AD tenant. Azure AD throws this error is the user signing in
    is not a user in that tenant.
    Multi-tenant applications like yours have two options:
    Perform home realm discovery yourself and send the SSO request to the correct tenant-specific endpoint of Azure AD: when a new Azure AD organization signs-up for your application, record its tenant ID, and registered domain names. On your login page, ask
    the user for their email and try to discover what Org they belong to using the suffix the email.
    Use the common endpoint of Azure AD. Instead of the {key_provided} part of the URL, use 'common'. In this case Azure AD will determine the user's tenant and sign-in the user. The token that your application will receive will still be from the user's tenant
    (iss claim).
    2 is more convenient for apps. However #1 has an advantage when the user's Organization has customized their sign-in page with the company logo etc - in the case of #1 the user will directly be taken to the customized and familiar sign-in page.
    I recommend a combination of the two: try determining the user's organization and sending them to the tenant specific SSO endpoint. If you're not able to - send them to the common endpoint.

  • Does Resetting Internet Explorer Maintenance settings from GPO will also remove the proxy set in IE by a third party tool when the GPO refreshes for the first time

    Hi,
    We have two GPO's with IE maintenance (Preference Mode Configured)
    The settings it has are
    1. Automatically detect configuration settings - Set to Enabled.
    2. Automatic Browser configuration - Not configured.
    We do not have proxy value set in IE through this GPO.
    We have proxy set in IE through a third party tool (TPT) which updates the proxy at logon event 5 and 10.
    Does Resetting Internet Explorer Maintenance settings from these GPO's also clear proxy set in IE by third party tool after the first GPO refresh.
    I am sure the second time when the GP refreshes, the client won't find any IEM settings and hence there is no question of the proxy set in IE by TPT to erase. It is only the first time of the GPO refresh that I am concerned about.
    Can someone please guide as I am planning to do the same in our production and concerned about the downtime caused due to the proxy being removed if at all for the first time.

    It will disable the proxy server option in Internet Options (untick the box), but will still store your proxy details.
    Thanks
    Ryan

  • How are the third party apps for the iPhone?

    Being a long time Palm user, then moved to BlackBerry I watched the quality of third party apps really plummet due to a more restrictive development agreement.
    Now considering an iPhone, I'm curious about how healthy the 3rd party app community is for iPhone, something I miss from my Palm days. From what I've heard, the development for iPhone applications is even more restrictive than for BlackBerries.
    Anyone that wouldn't mind addressing one or all of these questions for me from their own experience, would be greatly appreciated.
    1) Do you use third party applications on your iPhone, or do you find the native Apple software to be sufficient?
    2) Are there alot of different choices for utilities, or do you find yourself pigeonholed to 1-2 programs.
    3) Would you say that the third party apps are "mature" that is stable, follow similar flow/integration with the phone and designed in an intuitive way?
    Again thanks for anyone that chooses to help me with this. I was really disappointed with the apps available for the Blackberry. At $15-$25 dollars each, I was usually let down by the quality and selection and overall experience.

    The native software is excellent and I also have apps to fill in for things not available as part of the out of the box iPhone.
    2) Are there alot of different choices for utilities, or do you find yourself pigeonholed to 1-2 programs.
    If you go to the app store and browse, you'll find lots of different utilities. In some cases, there are a dozen different options that do the same basic thing and in other cases there are a couple.
    3) Would you say that the third party apps are "mature" that is stable, follow similar flow/integration with the phone and designed in an intuitive way?
    Some apps are well done and others aren't. Since they are developed independently, there is variability. The apps I use most frequently seem pretty stable. It all depends on your needs.
