Settings for an external display monitor

I'm working with FCP 7 but my screen is small 13.3 and for a person of my age (60) is a litle difficult to work. I would like an external monitor display but I cant afford to buy the Apple 24" display, so I'm looking for an other alternative. I found Viewsonic VX2260WM full HD 22"screen very affordable or maybe Samsung XL2370 23" screen. So I need now some help to setup all the system. I would like to have the possibility to have FCP work space in the big monitor but the preview in my MCP. Please, dear adviser, take in mind, for my age, that I need all the explanation full detailed.
Many thanks in advance

Thanks Jerry for your advice. I have had for a week a 22" ViewSonic connected with a HDMI Mini Display port adapter. I tried to do my best for the setup of this monitor with 1080p resolution while the MBP 13" was setup to the native resolution 1280X800 but the image at the external display was not good enough as the MBP screen. In any case I have return the ViewSonic because other problems. I'm now looking for an other monitor but I'm not sure what to look for. I need for a bigger work space for Final Cut but with a good quality image. Do you have any advice?

  • Is there a way to use a non-apple external display (monitor) without having my macbook air plugged in?

Just got a 27'' AOC monitor that I'm using with my Macbook Air (purchased in 2013). It's working great but as soon as I unplug the power adapter from my laptop the monitor goes black and says 'no signal'. I've been reading online that you need to have the power adapter plugged in to use an external monitor - my questions are: 1) does that harm the laptop's batter? if so, 2) is there a workaround? if there is no workaround, 3) does an Apple monitor also require that a laptop be plugged in for the external display to continue functioning while the laptop is in clamshell mode (closed lid)?
Thanks in advance for any advice

Thanks, Matt. In my case, the monitor definitely shuts off when I unplug the power from my laptop in clamshell mode. If the lid is open, however, the monitor continues to function even without the power adapter plugged into my laptop. Ideally, I'd like to have the lid closed on my laptop and be able to use the external monitor without having the power plugged into my laptop. That's what doesn't seem to work - if your does, please let me know if you have any pointers.
    Thanks again!

  • How Can I Connect 2 External Display Monitors to a MacBook Pro? Help

I want to know if I can (and How to) connect 2 external display monitors to a MacBook Pro... late 2006 & the new Unibody MBP.
    I'll appreciate

Requires additional hardware - the Matrox DualHead2Go. For the late 2006, you'd need the DualHead2Go Digital Edition, and for the unibody you'd need the DualHead2Go DP Edition, with appropriate cabling (and a DVI-to-VGA adapter for the late 2006 MBP).

As i had said, I have an Apple Powerbook G4, and my monitor doesn't function. I have an external display Monitor, however it's stuck in extended screen mode. How do I get it to mirror or duplicate the display without use of the on-board? Is there a Fn key combo i'm missing or is the issue more serious then i realize? any and all help and hints would be greatly apprichiated, thanks in advance.

The PowerBooks have an F-key that toggles mirrored and extended mode. My PB is loaned out right now but I think it was f7. The keycap has an icon on two overlapping rectangles, as I recall.
EDIT: Yes! Found a pdf of the PB manual it shows F7 is the toggle:

  • Keyboard shortcut for swapping external display settings?

I have Summer '07 Macbook and it has a dedicated F-key for switching between the various settings when an external monitor is attached. I'm considering one of the newer Macbooks (and giving mine to my wife) but have noticed that key is missing. I also had a recent experience with a friend who was trying to plug his Macbook into an external monitor. We could not find a quick way to switch between a "mirror" and "dual" display. (Actually, we couldn't even find a slow way, but I think that's just because we're kinda dumb )

Not that I'm aware of- I searched the keyboard shortcuts in CC for "swap" and "swap color" and it's not even listed as an option. I wouldn't mind Adobe adding more keyboard shortcuts for UI buttons for those who want to spend less time using the mouse.
Here's a workaround that might help: if you already have some artwork on the stage with the color you want, use the eyedropper tool (I) to pick either the line or fill color. Holding shift sets both the line and fill to the color you pick.

  • How to restore display on MacBook Pro to original settings after faulty external display connection

Rookie question, 2009 MacBook Pro.  We bought a dvi-VGA adapter to connect to an external display. Got a picture on the external monitor but very poor resolution.  Meanwhile the display on the MacBook Pro re-set itself and we were not able to restore it to normal even after we disconnected the external monitor.  We now have our MacBook Pro with messed up resolution and display, AND no external display.  How do we get the MacBook Pro back to its default display settings?  Any help greatly appreciated!

Re: MacBook doesn't sleep when closing lid with external monitor attached with Lion     Oct 14, 2011 7:01 PM    (in response to admgtz)
I would like to offer this solution.  I have a MacBook Pro with an external monitor, and, for a year and a half both displays slept when I closed the MBPS.  This behavior stopped when I installed Lion.  They would sleep when I removed the power cord, but what a pain that would be.  The command "pmset -g assertions" gave no indication of which process ought be preventing sleep.
I contacted Apple support, and after some searching, the guy working with me found this thread, which was flagged as an Apple-approved solution:

Correct AnswerRe: How do I tell Lion to disable the LCD screen even when the lid is open?
    Aug 31, 2011 9:56 AM (in response to Bob_viking)
Here's the command to make your laptop behave like it did Pre-Lion (courtesy of my friend):
    sudo nvram boot-args="iog=0x0"
Works perfectly for me. If it screws up your system, just zap the PRAM next boot (cmd-opt-p-r) and you'll be back to the default Lion state. Or if you can still get into terminal, this command will get you back to Lion's default state as well:
    sudo nvram -d boot-args
    Enjoy!
One snag was that I had to run it with the external monitor disabled, but it worked great!

  • Power settings for an external battery

I'm using an external hyperjuice battery, which connects via the magsafe power socket.
It's identified in OSX power settings as Power Source: Power Adapter
so it's draining power as if on mains electricity.
If I could set it to work as a battery, it would last longer... but OSX doesn't seem to give me the option to choose what power source I use.
Best I can do so far is to tweek Mains Power settings to act like a Battery; is there a way of forcing OSX to sip power at battery levels, when connected to the external battery?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi!
Yes it would work as long as it is the only external display connected to the system.
Try Pressing F2 When you Power On the computer to boot into BIOS.
If still Not working, It is possible that the computer might be having boot/Post Issue.
Try Draining the Power by doing a Power Drain,
        REmove the AC and Battery
Hold the Power Button down for at least 15 sec
Reconnect everything including the HDI or the VGA alone then check.
You can also try reseating the Memory
See this Maintenance Manual for reference on memory removal
    Hope this helps
    Cheers!

  • What are the best settings for a retina display image?

If we Export for Web then view it on a retina display monitor, the image lines look blurry and it's not as crisp as non-retina display monitors.
What are the best settings when intended for retina display monitors while keeping the file size down?
    Thanks!

Mark, yes a DVD will play back on a HDTV, just the quality will not match the capability of the playback device. This is certainly the easiest approach though.
As the article you referenced says, ensuring that your previews are set to a larger pixel dimension than your required output will ensure maximum quality, given that you will more than likely have movement on the images in the slide show I would suggest going with pixel dimensions that are at least 1920px.
Let us know how you go.

  • Vga to dvi? for an external display for an ibook

does anyone know of an adapter that allows you to use the apple cinema displays (the 20' one)? any suggestions would be great
    thanks

btw, it just an adapter. I am not sure it compatible
    with your screen or not.
I believe that adapter is for DVI-A displays. DVI-A displays accept analog signals. Since Apple's Displays are DVI-D, and only accept a digital signal, this adapter wouldn't be compatible. You need a converter box that converts the analog signal to a digital one.
Check here to read the reply I left for you in your previous thread.

  • External display monitor suddenly is not working; power is on

    Hello,
My LG external monitor display suddenly is not working today. It powers on, and it says "analog power saving mode", and it is detected by my ibook G4. When I go to preferences, and show displays, it shows that two displays are active, my laptop "Color LCD" and my external, "L1932Tq". If the external is plugged in, it indicates that that is the system in use, though the external monitor is black and unresponding (except for power light which is on). I replaced all cords - the power cord and the mini VGA cord and it's connecting cord to the monitor, and there are no changes.
Is this monitor just suddenly broken, perhaps through it's internal connection devices??
    Thanks!!

  • Macbook Pro support for two external displays

I keep seeing articles since yesterday stating that the new MBP retina display supports 3 external monitors and the new Macbook Air supports two (through just one ThB port?) but how come no one says anything about the new regular MBP's support? If the Air supports two isn't the regular MBP also supposed to be able to work with two external monitors?

USB video has performance limitations, but it's fine for stuff that doesn't involve fast-action video.
ah yes, sorry, the new USB 3 now supports speeds up to 5 GB/sec so it may become suitable for AV use. Actually, only ThunderBolt (and HDMI) has higher speed than the USB 3 port.
but I just found this page here at the Apple support, which states that the Air and Pro both support 2 displays and the retina MBP one more through the HDMI port, so I guess now it's official

  • Modem settings for Apple external modem

I'm not certain if my terminology is correct, but is there a way to set the packet size (MTU?) for sent transmissions for an Apple external modem? Specifically, I'd like to see what mine is set for, and change the values to perform some tests. I've seen posts where the MTU cannot exceed 1492 bytes with some ISP's or data is fragmented. My specific problem is that I am unable to send attachments larger than about 50KB from Leopard's Mail app (3.2), although I can send attachments with no problem from Tiger. Text messages are no problem. Thanks in advance for advise.

    Thanks a lot for answering.
I believe the modem is working. I can hear it dial, hear the handshake and apparent connection. The modem status display shows "Connecting" then "Authenticating" and eventually "Disconnecting". I get an Internet Connect report that "Authentication Failed". I have verified that my Account Name and Password are correct, by logging on to the Road Runner Web Mail site. I went through that in detail with their tech support.
How can I disable v.92 in OS X 10.5.6? I tried disabling error control and data compression, but that seemed to have no effect. What about these settings:
    Send PPP echo packets
    Use verbose logging
    Use TCP header compression
Would any of those PPP settings have an effect on Authentication?
So far, the only way I have been able to connect and log in by dialup is with a PowerBook G3 (Wallstreet) in OS 9 with a PC card modem. My normal connection is a cable modem and that's no problem, but I wanted to test dialup as a backup. Now, it's a challenge.
    Thanks again for your help.
