Settings for audio HDV 24p 16:9

Hi,
I have some very serious audio issues. Someone told me, maybe it happened because of the way I captured the audio (I don't know) into FCP. Maybe...
The footage was shot with an HV20 in HDV 24p 16:9. The sound clip in Format states:
Aud rate 48.0 KHz
Aud format 16-bit integer
Data rate 3.6 MB / sec
Should it be that way????

Digital audio for video is 48 kHz, 16 Bit.
There are other settings, but let's not complicate the issue -this setting is correct for you.
So, what are your audio issues and how did you capture?
Did you transcode the HDV to Apple Intermediate or ProRes codec?
What is your Easy Setup and Timeline Sequence Settings?

  • What are the correct setup and system settings for importing HDV video from tape?

I keep trying different "easy setups" and system settings/preferences in order to import both the audio and video from HDV recordings on miniDV tape to no avail in either FCE4 or FCP5.  I import via firewire from the camera.  My computer "sees" the camera and controls playback (I can hear the audio) but no video displays for capture (just color bars).
My camera is a Canon Vixia HV40 and my computer is a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
I've tried the HDV easy setup...no video...
I've tried HDV 1080i/60 as I saw recommended somewhere else...no video...
Captures standard video just fine but I'd like to try editing some higher def footage.
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks.

The combination of all these helpful ideas solved the problem.
I set AV settings to HD and Apple Intermediate Codec HDV 1080i/60 AND set the cameras output to "locked" HDV.  Funny, it had been on "A" (Auto) before and should have simply sensed the need for HD output.  I then tried to capture using "A" again and this time it detected the difference between SD footage and HDV footage (I had clips of both kinds on the same tape).
I ran similar capture tests on FCP 5.1, FCE 4, and FCPX and all three programs captured HDV video and audio.
Thanks again everyone.  Be sure the camera is set to output HDV or "A".

  • *** Best web settings for an HDV clip online

Okay, I usually export mpeg-4 but the settings are all different so I have a few questions I'm hoping someone can help me with!
Dimmensions of the clip. The footage was shot on a Sony Z1U in HDV. Normally with my 4:3 footage I select a frame size of 320x240. For HDV I was thinking if I took 1440x1080 and then divided it by 4 that it would look ok (giving me a size of 360x270. I exported it and it was too thin from top to bottom and too long and skinny from left to right.
Sound. These are all new to me so I'm not sure what to select in order to give the best quality sound but not the largest file size.
I need to publish the clip in as best quality as possible and I'm not overly concerned with file size, although I'd like to keep it to around 60 megs at the most if possible.
Can someone suggest settings that would help me achieve this goal?
    Thanks in advance!

Just took a look in Compressor and I have a few more questions about settings.
I'm assuming I should choose 1 of the 4 selections for "web download" but I'm not sure which one. My main need is high-quality footage that is accessible easily by either Mac or PC users. Do I choose web download QT 6 or 7? After choosing this, which settings are best to choose? Do I choose LAN or KBPS settings? I'm lost here.

  • Render settings for audio for film in After Effects

    Hi there,
I am trying to export my film with dialogue. My original audio file is in WAV which is CRISP! And when I add it to the video in AE and export it, it reduces in quality atleast 10x!
When I rendered it in quicktime with uncompressed codec, it turned out pretty close to the original.
But the file size was.....3GB!! (The film is 7 minutes long). But when I render it using H.264 using AAC, the audio sounds horrible and rough.
Also, which audio codec do I use? What's the difference between AAC, AAC Version 1 and AAC Version 2? How can I reduce the file size without losing out on SO MUCH quality?
Thanks for the help in advance!
    Cheers,
    Nikhita
P.S: I have used 48KHz, Stereo and 32 float for the original as well as the export settings. It's the codec that's messing things up. So help!

The final audio mixing has been done in Adobe Audition, and exported as a wav file. Is there a standard preset which will not destroy the sound quality while shrinking the file size? I tried using H.264. The image quality is great but the sound is terrible as H.264 doesn't have great audio codecs. What preset should I use for good sound AND good audio with a decent file size?

  • Settings for Audio MIDI Setup

I have a G4 laptop that I use with a VX pocket at home, and with inbuilt audio at work. I configure audio midi the way I want for each location. Can this be automated? How do I go about getting automator into to list of actions with workflows?

Audio MIDI Setup has no Automator actions written for it (that I'm aware of) and is unlikely to get them soon as it lacks an AppleScript API. An automated solution is going to be reduced to mimicking user input (pushing buttons and sliding controls) with System Events. For an explanation and example see this recent thread.
I can help you work out the specific syntax for the script, but first I'll need to see the two configurations you're switching between. Open Audi MIDI Setup, hit Command-Shift-4 on your keyboard, then hit the space bar, then click the shaded setup window with the camera-icon cursor. Locate "Picture 1" on your desktop and rename it "MIDI Setup 1." Reconfigure your settings and repeat these steps, renaming the file "MIDI Setup 2." If you have a hosted website or storage space where you can upload the files, go ahead and link to them in your reply. If not, you may e-mail them to me and I'll post them.

  • Best settings for archiving HDV

Hi, I've done a lot of searching on google and can't really determine the best way to do this. I am trying to find out the best way to export video for archive. I shoot on HDV. What export settings do you find to work the best for you and why. I use both Final Cut and Final Cut express. MUCH THANKS!!

Is this who I think it is....I am sbcooler...go to youtube and look me up...hey...did you figure out how best to archive this footage yet?
You know a super fast way is to go from 1 HDV cam to another via firewire. I did that for that last video I did...and in real time you can clone a perfect digital copy onto another tape. You can use cheap Sony Premium tapes (blue wrapper - under $3 each if you buy them in quantity) or you can just use that 1TB drive and perhaps another 1TB and have it in 3 places. Frankly 1 copy on tape and 1 on a non RAID drive I think is safe enough for most stuff.

  • Best Export settings for 1080i60, HDV

    Hello,
I'm about to start exporting a episodic TV show that I've been working on for a long time. This has been my export settings that I've used in the past.
    VIDEO:
    MPEG-4
    File Format: MP4
    H.264
Data Rate: 9000 -- Optimized for: Streaming
    1280x720 HD (should I do 1920x1080?)
    Frame rate: 30
Key Frame: Every: 24 Frames (is this correct?)
    VIDEO OPTIONS: Encodiing: BEST QUALITY
    AUDIO:
    Data Rate: 320
    Output Sample Rate: 48
    Encoding Quality: Best
This will be streamed on BLIP.TV, and Youtube.
Any advice on how to improve these settings?

Keyframing should be set to Automatic. You can also set Data Rate to Automatic and get good results. The data rate you have is a bit high, though, for Internet video. You can come WAY down from that. But I'd just set it to Automatic. Be sure Frame Reordering is checked. Frame rate should match your original file.
Audio can be ACC 16kHz at 32 bit data rate and still sound good.
I'd just go with the H.264 codec, though. Here's what I do, you can't go wrong, and once that Droplet is done, you're home free!

  • Optimal settings for encoding HDV 1080i footage to SD dvd

I have footage recorded from an HDV camcorder and edited in FCP 1080i 60. It is fast moving sports footage shot with a high shutter speed the total running time is 40 min. I have encoded it to DVD by taking the HDV 16:9 FCP sequence dropping it to a 4by3 DV sequence to get the window box 4by3 aspect ratio and exporting this sequence as an mov. This mov was then encoded with compressor dvd 90 min best settings
I was not able to find a quick way to do the aspect ratio change in Compressor 3. Please let me know optimal settings.
The big problem however is how compressor has dealt with the high speed moving footage. Played from the DVD on a sd tv the motion is terrible. It looks like the interlacing is all off and the image doubled up. The slow mo footage used in the piece is fine.
What are the optimal settings to smooth out the motion?

  • Best volume/compression settings for AUDIO for Rock concert DVD ???

I am putting the finishing touches to a 2 hour rock concert DVD.....
    I am converting the wav/and 5.1 to Dolby 5.1 and 2.0 files ....
They are sounding really quiet compared to the original waves...???
I can see that there are some dolalogue/audio compression settings and something set to -21db.....
How can I make them louder...and if I do will it mess up playing on normal DVD's ....
I know there are some DOLBY compresor settings in mac DVD player that make the sound pump if switched on...
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated???

    Hi
You must change some settings in the standard Dolby presets to keep the original level and mix:
    - Dialog Normalization: -31
    - Compression preset: none
This way your AC3 files will keep the level and mix from your original files.
    Hope that helps !

  • Final settings for audio

Does anyone know the proper way to export your movie audio files that are the least compressed and have a nice even tone when done by using a compressor in FCS7 or Compressor or Soundtrack Pro?

nice even tone?  That requires some personal attention setting levels with the correct dynamic range and adjusting eq to taste.
You can automate the process to an extent using a compressor/limiter filter in fcp or soundtrack pro but you really have to listen on good speakers to make a judgement.  And for that matter, listening to it on a variety of speakers that reflect how it'll be listened to by end users, is also important.
Here's a link to a user tip about using the compressor/limiter filter

  • Best FCP settings for 1920x1080 HDV footage @24fps

...shooting film on small community river with a Canon XH-A1...and want to work with cinematic style "beauty shots" So far I'm assuming that import presets in FCP should be set at AppleProRes 422(HQ)...although this taxes my processor...I will be doing simple graphics and project will be about 20 minutes in length. I'd love some opinions on what to watch for and how best to proceed from anyone who is familiar and has worked with this type of set up. Thanks a mil.

  • Flash Player Settings For Audio

I am trying to broadcast a DVD with audio on instant messaging programs and sites that use adobe flash to broadcast. One of the sites uses Flash Player 7.0 or 9.0. I chose micro setting to be my microphone driver and hoping that DVD audio would broadcast thru speakers but people can hear background noise like me typing, phone ringing, etc. When audio can be heard in the websites chat room, audio track has to be loud or no sound.
I am using WEBCAMMAX to broadcast DVD but users of that site can't hear the audio due to fluctuation of sound levels on certain scenes. I have turned sound to highest volume on sound card and WEBCAMMAX program. What is the configuration to solve audio problem?
My os is windows media center xp 2002. 1 GB of RAM.
    Stephen

Google has acknowledged a "glitch" in their YouTube code that is causing this. There is NOTHING that Flash Player has to do with it, and there is NOTHING that Flash Player can fix in YouTube's code. Google has stated that they are working on the fix this week.

  • Best Settings for HD output with Still Photos and Audio?

I am creating a 1 minute audio presentation that I would like to add photos and text titles to. What are the best sequence settings for this?

    Joe,
Thanks for your help. Would these be HDV settings, NTSC (?), PAL...etc?
I guess I just want it to look good. I'm a photographer and not a videographer so this is all new to me. I've just made some quick little videos (only about 4) in the past with Premiere. I'm much more familiar with Photoshop, but I thought this would be an easy project. I just don't want my photos to show up blurry. I'm in the US, so I think there is a difference for that with the NTSC and PAL settings, but I don't even know if I should use one of those or if it's one of the other endless options up there.
Are the ones you said just different sizes that the videos can be enlarged to and show clearly at an enlarged size? (Sort of like dpi?)

  • Output to XDCAM HD - Audio Settings for Final Sequence?

    Hi,
If the approval gods are smiling, it'll be time to export several programs back to disc for a client in the next week or so. The original clips and the sequence are all at XDCAM HD 1080i60, 35Mbs VBR. I've ingested using Sony PDZ file transfer with a PDW-F75 deck, and everything looks/sounds great on approval QTs so far.
My question is on the audio settings for the final sequence on to XDCAM disc. I've got 2 tracks of talent audio, 2 of nat sound and 4 of music. If I understand the FCP manual correctly, I have to select 4 mono track outputs when doing a file transfer export of the sequence. What settings do I need to choose so that the mix I hear when I play back my sequence in studio is what anyone down the line will hear when they play back the final sequence I've exported to XDCAM disc? That is, if I've got 8 active tracks, what happens to them with the 4 mono track setting? Thanks very much for any suggestions and advice.
    Pat

Agree that the HDV downconvert in the camera is optimal.. but the darn print to video needs to work reliably to GET the hdv material back to the camera
i still have to use iMovie to get my files back to the camera in HDV...
FCP 5.0.4 still doesnt work well

  • Best settings for what used to be HDV, became M2V?

I have some concert footage I shot in HDV60i (on a Canon HV40). I only exported it to DVD and not to an HDV file, so all I have now is an M2V file and an audio file (AAC). Now I need to upload it to youtube, but I have to do some editing in FCP6 first. What is the best sequence settings for me to use in FCP? My second question would be how should I export it for best viewing on youtube (since it's no longer a true HDV file), but that question may be better served for the Compressor forum...any info would be appreciated though!

    hi,
well a lot depends on the footage you might be using. Use the setting that matches that. Or if its graphics based use the biggest baddest HD setting you can. Of course if the finished thing is getting burnt to a DVD to be shown its all going to be compressed then and lose quality at that stage.
